For apartments!

I messaged so many people. Most of our city is like the Bronx. Rough, prostitutes, drug dealing/using and alcoholics. I tried to go into the better areas and stick around churches/schools because I know they'd be safe (YES. I am getting smarter on how I look).

I spent three hours looking this morning. I messaged three people and I phoned one. He was very nice and sounds willing to bend the rent a little bit so I can afford heat and hydro $180/month). It has perks on washer/dryer hookup!! He said he has to look at the other applicants and if he thinks I'm a good fit, he'll rent.

Not going to lie. I have a headache and I'm slightly stressed and nervous.

Edit: I did a massive ping alert to my peeps~ (this is why I haven't been on. Been busy)

Moving is stressful, and looking for a place is even worse. Hope you find something soon :)

I hope you find one that works well for you and is in your budget! My partner and I searched for like... four months before we finally found the (near!) perfect place. It's ridiculously stressful not to know the history of an apartment, and there's always the chance that the landlord is a massive pain in the ass. :/ Plus it's even worse if they don't get back to you consistently. There needs to be like, a rental unit ID thing that works like vehicle identification numbers--just so you can see if like, the unit has a history of pest problems, or whether it takes a long time for maintenance work to get done, etc. And how much the rent's gone up over time--that'd also be useful to know.

Anyway, good luck--I hope it works out!

I like the idea that units should have a number and you can look into what problems there was and what problems are current

I viewed one today and it was ghetto ASF! Plus, the inside was so small and it looked rough (peeling paint, stained hardwood floors). This was the apartment. You walk in and: there's the kitchen, a small bedroom and a bathroom. Plus, it smelled so old and musty and there was mold in the bathroom.

There wasn't room for a couch or a kitchen table.

How awful! keep your spirits up! There is a perfect/almost perfect apt for you somewhere! What about looking a little further out? Usually they are larger and less expensive.

Thank you ;o; I messaged a bunch of people and none of them have gotten back to me. I messaged a few new ones about 10min ago

The larger the apartment, the more expensive it is sadly. Plus.. a lot of utilities are not included. I could just get a second job, but lifting is limited because I have some mobility issues.

I just meant that usually, esp in big cities, instead of right in the center of town if you go further away, like just outside the city where it takes a longer commute, the prices are lower and you get more space. But it may not be true where you live. I hope you never have to get a 2nd job just to pay the rent! Best of luck finding what you want. :)

Oh rofl. I don't own a vehicle, so it would be pointless to find a place out of town.

I see a unit on Friday

Oof, sorry, it was my bday yesterday and I wasn't here like at all.

Best of luck with getting things sorted! I hope it works out and you get the place at a reasonable price.

I COULD BE DEAD BY THEN.

If you don't have a kid... you have to wait more than 3 years. My brother told me to pop one out lmao. I'm barren though... does that mean I can try and try? evil fingers

People with kids... 3-5 year wait eye roll

Because of reasons? Idfk. It's a lame, archaic bias and needs done away with because it's damned if you have kids (BECAUSE YOU SHOULD HAVE WAITED) and damned if you don't (YOU'LL WANT KIDS LATER! HOW CAN YOU NOT WANT KIDS!?)

I think the city should invest and build more housing units. This way, a lot of people can be moved off the list. Like... is my place not good enough to get in faster? Mold, fungus, second and third hand cigarette smoke that's fucking up my health. I guess not.

I'm paying $804 in rent to live in a building that's falling apart and playing hvack on my health.

Up to a TEN YEAR WAIT? OMG. And I thought having to wait 2 years to get disability was bad! Of course surviving the two years with a place to live, bills paid, and food with no money would have been impossible w/o help from my parents and friends. I swear they want you to DIE while you are waiting so they don't have to deal with you!

I used to ride the buses all the time when I lived far from work, because parking was so expensive. I guess you don't have that option?

We have buses and I could always get a job in town. I can even ask my boss to switch my perm shift to another day if Sundays don't pan out, but first things first. I have to view the unit and then apply for it. Then it's the waiting game if I get accepted or not.

That's exactly what they want to happen "Oh. He died. We can remove him now. One less person waiting for subsidized housing"

Yuck!!! Public help is usually a disservice rather than true help. I myself make min wage. I support just me on that. Split rent with a friend. He pays cable, I pay electric. Other utilities are included in rent. Plus then other bills. All said and done I need to make about 900 a month to barely met my bills. I bring home a bit more than that. You think this would mean we can get help with something like food or a reduced electric? Nope. They say I make too much to get any more than 16 bucks a month on food stamps (like what does that cover? A few cans or pastas?) And electric help only comes if I get a shut off notice AND miss time from work to attend an appointmet to even see if I could get help, not a guarantee.

I have no idea what housing help around here is like. But from what I gather it doesn't seem to matter your situation most of it has so many hoops that it can be lost quickly, even half way housing.

I'm seriously hoping you can find some place. I haven't commented on your threads for awhile, but I've read them. Your slum lord deserves to lose all the renters hes got. And your family needs to seriously get their heads removed from their asses and clean their ears and eyes.

I'm assuming your brother still has the unit below you? Are you also encouraging him to leave despite the wobbly standing between all the family?

I sincerely hope you are able to improve your situation all around.

FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.
