Will we ever hear the end of the Gunter/Bubbles/Anne story? Some of us have questions.
How did Burkhard become an Unliving after he died by drowning?
Does Anne know about Bubbles yet?
What's going to happen to Gunter because he's been held in a detention facility for a year without any form of trial. Are there no criminal courts and judges in the fictional Subeta world? Can the SAI just lock people up for as long as they feel like it with no questions asked?
Thorpe is a detective for the Ziara City Police Department and Atebus is independent from Subeta. Why was he in Veta about to launch an investigation concerning Gunter? The SAI didn't get involved in the Atebus Masquerade Murder investigation.
Why did the SAI have an eye on Gunter for some time? Did they suspect something before the rumours started?
I'm guessing that Thorpe was brought in because he's an existing character but it does give the impression that Gunter was involved in an illegal activity relating to Atebus. :D
Another reason why I think the story needs closure is last year's Neugarten - all we had was a few vegan items added to the Brewery so the story was the biggest part. A number of people felt it was a heavy handed criticism of meat eaters. Maybe making it clear that Gunter going mad because he'd killed his brother isn't the usual reason for going vegan would make people feel better . (Well, I hope killing family members isn't the usual reason. :D :D )
I wasn't around last year since I was on a semi-hiatus, but I'm still kind of annoyed about the whole thing. It seems unnecessary.
If Subeta wanted to introduce vegan things, fine, but to do it this way? It just seems...heavy-handed like you said, I guess. I want Alegarten back, even WITH the vegan options. I don't mind those, but please, was this change really necessary? Why the drama if they weren't going to continue the plot?
It's...a little more than disappointing and confusing.
Exactly. All they had to do was have Gunter make an announcement on the following lines. "Alegarten wasn't the success I'd hoped for so I'm starting a new event in the summer. I'm also expanding my business by adding some vegan items to the Brewery shops."
Finishing the story wouldn't require a major plot involving puzzles for players to solve. Anne could make an announcement about her side of the story via a link in Quick Bites. Jack Cardale could say they'd found Bubbles and discovered how he became a zombie and Titania McGee could report on Gunter's trial on the News Page.
As for the SAI having their eye on Gunter for a while, it could be that they suspected something or knew something about his connection to Bubbles and how he became a zombie. Weren't they usually involved in the early days of the Pandemics/Survival events back when it was actually like viruses being spread around, before people started wanting to get infected on purpose? I know they were involved back during the Skitters and Fantine thing when they were sending the pastry boxes back and forth or something, even though I didn't really participate in that plot.
I'm not sure what Thorpe was doing there, other than like you said he's a familiar character, and he also kind of strikes me as the sort of character who likes to stick his nose in other people's business where it doesn't belong.
If the SAI have known about Bubbles for years they didn't tell Anne. Her Quick Bites message includes "Where on Subeta is my father?"
Is she wondering what Gunter did with the body or what?
I don't know.
A lot of these are questions that nobody but staff members can answer because we have very little information. It's fun to speculate, but wasn't a lot of this already covered kind of in that other thread?
I would just wait until we eventually get more to the story, because right now I have just as few actual answers as anybody else lol.
We speculated in another thread - in this thread the question about Anne is meant for the staff. It's something else a lot of people would like an answer for.
Doesn't surprise me how quickly this little lore bit ended up forgotten or tossed to the side. Lately any attempts at plots or world-building have been half-hearted at best.

All I really want to know is how Bubbles became a zombie. Was he already infected when he died? Or is there another way to become one? I'm hoping that maybe next Survival we might find out...
tbh Neugarten didn't even feel like a holiday event, it didn't give any reason to post on the forums to speak of and it was just kind of...there. :(
TBH I'm pretty sure that the creative department is just stretched really thin lately with all the projects they've been working on, and so this needed to take a back seat this year.
And in a less serious note, it took almost 3 years for my mom to get her full sentence (and well over 10 court trials as they sifted through everything), so maybe Subeta's penal system is just mimicking the productivity we've got here in America. ;)
All it needs is three NPC announcements in the news.
Cardale or Asmodeus explain how Burkhard became a zombie.
Anne says she's found Bubbles and how she feels about her father being a zombie.
Titania McGee reports that Gunter has been tried and what the sentence is.
THE END
We don't know what they want to do regarding this lore, you're simply saying what you want them to do. They may have exactly that planned, or they could have something entirely different planned. We just don't know at all.
Regardless, what you're suggesting still takes time. Even writing out posts takes time and probably more than one person. I may be in the minority but I'd rather have something well thought out than something stuck together just to appease us for a year.
Going by all the comments last year and various comments in threads this year a lot of people don't like the story or are fed up because it wasn't concluded this year. The way things are right now we have a choice of interpretations -
Meat eaters are murdering monsters.
Veganism is linked to insanity.
People are locked up without trials so the Subetan government is no better than Maleria or Calvin Blackmoon.
I choose number 3. Lets have a revolution and overthrow the Council. Rumi is anti-government so she can lead it. :D :D :D
I’m fairly disappointed we didn’t get more and understand where you all are coming from. It seems like it wouldn’t take much to wrap up the plot line, at least from a “Anne finds Bubbles” standpoint, especially since we as witnesses already know this fact and as citizens of Subeta it seems like SOMEONE would have gone into Anne’s shop and told her “hey we know where your dad is”.
However from a storytelling standpoint I can see how that wouldn’t be as fulfilling to not only the audience at large but the writers as well. They may want to take more time to construct a satisfying “this is how we got here” story.
I just want Anne to be happy, so I’m hopeful the wait will be worth it.
This is more of a minor thing but it still makes me chuckle--a newbie, who doesn't understand the background to these characters, who visits Quick Bites is going to see a girl dressed a little like a Bovyne and then this dark, depressing dialogue and letter with no context. I can't imagine the emotional whiplash and confusion someone might feel over that.
Again, you're making assumptions on the part of staff. None of us know their plans. I understand you disagree with me, and that's totally fine. I am sad we didn't get more info this year, but I don't think this is forgotten at all, and I'm okay waiting longer for something that has a better execution to avoid things like the assumptions last year's plot left (like you've listed).
Finally managed to track down the bit about Thorpe in the news.
I wonder what Thorpe would say if Cardale had a holiday on Atebus and started investigating crimes. :D
I read through the comments. Rah said "NOTE: NOT A PLOT. JUST SOME LORE BUILDING." and Amber said "i ruined everyones dreams on the one thread about gunter being sad; it's just some lore development like a mini thing. SORRY "
I then found this - Cash Shop: Well Hung Meat
It's interesting reading these comments as well. And amongst them is the best question of all. Bubbles is missing an arm. Did Gunter eat it.?
Luckily the Subeta News pages can be found via Google but it would be nice if there was a Subetapedia section linking to plot related stuff like this. It's hard to remember details after a year.

We still don't know who sent Blake the letter about the island mountain or what exactly was the purpose of that plot, we still have a psycho sea witch on the loose and the Gunter story line.. did I forget any other open lore without any continuation?
