Seriously, what is the reasoning for making one of the most basic features of the site cost that much?

These things used to be really affordable before they were dumped in the MC. I know the price has been this high for a while, but every time I need to buy one it annoys me all over again. When I can, I zap for the gender I need instead. But, for instance, my pet Fennekin is genderless right now - that means she can't be zapped into a regular gender.

So that means I have to buy TWO Gender Berries at 10mil a pop to make her female, because the Gender Berry will turn a genderless pet male by default.

20mil to turn my pet female is pretty damn steep, Subeta. 8|

I'm also not thrilled that it's another one of those "male by default" settings like U H M. /nb grouching Option for which gender to change into if the price must remain that steep, please and thank you.

10m for a food and genderswap item is really too much. ._. What makes it worse is that it's very prone to accidentally being FED to a pet instead of being USED on a pet - and I speak from experience.

I'd like to know if any of these have even been sold in the MC in the past month? At 10m a piece, they cost 2.5x more than the Dark Matter Potion (4m), and they're matched in MC price by the Essence of Melody, which is 2-2.5m in user shops thanks to achievements.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not above shelling out sP to make my pet look perfect, but 10m is too much for something that I can get from the zapper with some patience and tokens.

When the Magic Box was removed and all the pet color/species potions and elixirs were moved into the Apocalyptic Apothecary, Gender and Genderless berries suddenly became a whole lot rarer due to how shops stock and the price shot up. So, I mean you aren't wrong that they used to be very affordable, but 10m was around market price at the time they were added to the MC, which is probably the reason why that was price set. It's not arbitrary even if it's way too high.

I'd really like to see the price come way down, to around the levels they were before the Magic Box went away and genderless be a creation option.

I get why gear-gender is exclusive to robots (and I def might be reading too far into this), but the whole "pay big bux to be exactly what feels right!" bs hits a wee little teensy tiny bit too close to home for the gender & genderless berries.

@ frederick Gender Berries used to restock in the Food Market after the Magic Box got axed, and the prices gradually got up to 10m for them in user shops too. Genderless Berries were a BHH exclusive, going for anywhere between 20-60m in user shops.

As for the source of me knowing this, well... :X I'm not saying I made topics asking for them to be made more available... But I kind of did make topics asking for them to be made more available.

I actually grabbed a few when they were called “sex berries” out of the apothecary (or maybe the Magic Box.. it’s been years by now). The name was funny to me at the time.

The Magic Box closed in 2015 and the stock was spread across various shops, but if they were called sex berries at the time, odds are you got them from there. c:

Support on lowering the price or at least giving you the option to choose which gender you want if you have a genderless pet! I have a scootle I've been wanting to change into female, but as she's genderless atm, it kind of sucks out my motivation when I remember how much I'm going to have to spend. Bah humbug.

In addition to being restockable in the Food Market, the Gender Berry was also vendable because it was r70-80 before the changes. So it was consistently under 1m, and even under 100k sometimes. It's really surprising to have it priced higher than the potions in the MC.

I would really not only love to see the* price drastically reduced, I would like this to be something not tied to an item.

I mean we used to have to get items to get pet slots, change usernames, and change pet names. All of those were done away with, so why is gendering still this way?

I'd also like to say, y'all it's 2019. Let's be real, if this became an option tied to a pet directly (just like name changes, TC slots, etc) we could hopefully get more gender options?? Male, Female, Non-Binary, Fluid, None, etc etc. I mean the icons are already horrible outdated and could use a freshening up.

Realistically most people currently zap for gender changes because 10m is just, extraordinarily high. 500k is vastly more reasonable for any gender change; though I'd like to see it even lower, after all gender is a thing that's very important to most characters and having the right one shouldn't be something you spend days+ (depending on level of activity, y'all try questing daily on a phone with mobile data, subeta will eat every sliver of your data like pokemon go eats your battery) saving for.

There is no instruction manual or quiz for Which Gender Are You, it's mostly left to you to feel out for yourself. So it's a bit of a minefield in a community that both wants representation, but has also been drama-heavy and prone to blowing things out of proportion.

That aside - have Lukien or the Wizard or someone else with magical inclinations provide gender changes where you can pick the gender of choice for a small, reasonable fee. 500k-1m, because you can easily get that much just by questing for 2 days as a newbie. Or for 100-250 wiz tokens. I feel it'd be both affordable and just pricy enough where you'd feel comfortable spending it to pick the pet gender you want.

@ rocketlauncher Back in my day, GAs used to be 55k 😜 Jokes aside, Gender Berries were affordable for ages until the no-gender-icon zentu glitch happened when that pet was first released. After that, they massively shot up in price and weren't going down. Even with vending, you had a very low chance of getting the berry because it was in the higher rarity range, so any vended berries did nothing to lower the price. But 10m for them is definitely too much. :/

Gonna sound like a goober, but after feeding my pets gender berries on accident a couple of times, I stopped using the ones I had tucked away in my vault. I just stuck to zapping. Sure, it was tedious and annoying, especially for pricy pet colours, but it cut back on the disappointment.

I've got to agree that 10mill just to change a tiny icon on a pet's profile is absurd. It's not even something that can be ignored or glossed over, if someone makes profiles for their pets. Misrepresenting a pet's gender on the profile is a warnable offense. Since the pet's true gender is required on pet profiles, I can't even tailor my graphics to say "Yoshi the Dawn Velosotor" for example and reference whatever gender I want throughout a story. It has to say female in there or else someone can report me.

If this is going to be a hardcore requirement for pet profiles, then it really needs to be more accessible to change genders and not rely on RNG with the zapper. Nevermind attempting to zap a pet into genderless, as that's not possible. 10mill is roughly the equivalent of $1 going off the price of . $1 to change an 10x10 pixel icon, I can't even emphasize how obnoxious that is.

IMO If we want to really overhaul the gender system in this site, we could have the option to just write-in your pet's gender.

The icon could be changed to one that the staff feel presents gender as an idea/in general, and then like how we can give our pets names, we write in their gender.

Because the only gameplay gender effects is whether or not you can get a warning for using the wrong pronouns/etc for your pet if it doesn't match their profile icon, then I don't think this would cause any issues.

I think this is probably as fair an option as we can get, that way it's entirely user-directed.

I know there's concerns about drama, but I think that any drama or backlash that comes from this doesn't negate the need for an overhaul. Maybe people will behave themselves and enjoy a feature that makes things easier for them as well as everybody else.

With proper filters (like slurs, etc) and with the same system they use for moderating things like pet names and usernames, it's possible that there might be a decent way of moderating gender names too. It might be a little tricky but it does seem like there are staff who are well versed in gender related issues.

I might just be having too much faith in the userbase though, it could be possible that the volume of reportable offenses would be higher than I'm considering.

@ Captain The site isn't filtering thing any more, though! The bad word filters were removed a while ago with no actual reason given for it. I'm assuming it took more maintenance, updating and general work than they could provide at this time.

I get where you're coming from and I understand that a lot of users would like to have a more expanded gender list for their characters. I'd just prefer to have both - expand it and not give some random douchebag the chance to ruin it for everyone.

Oh I didn't know that! I wonder how moderating works for things like usernames/etc now. I do think maybe having a baseline filter (for things that are just fully not acceptable, even for a pg-13 site) is a useful thing, but maybe it wasn't working properly?
