Today whilst on the login page I saw that the slide show meant to get new users to register has become a bit dated. Since the Ideas to Increase New User Retention is a thing I figured it coud use an update to maybe draw new users in who would otherwise not register at all.
These are the images in the current slide show:

-The first slide uses a old image of the blue building lady. A replacement slide could feature either The blue building lady's new image or maybe Sarah the newbie guide. -The second slide features HA's that while well put together only use items that are all more than 5 years old and could definitely use replacing. I also would prefer to see both a male and a female HA there with at least one being non caucasian. I think CW's should not be used on these HA's (as whilst CW's are fun they are maybe a bit expensive if you don't know if you are going to stick around longer than a week yet) but I do think CW's should be mentioned. -now the 3rd image still uses an up to date pet color and could just be reused. If replaced I think it would be nice if it featured maybe one cute looking pet and a more fierce looking one (so that if a cute pet has the current pet spotlight a new user doesn't think subeta is just about cute animals).
Now I think that the slideshow could use up to 2 more slides before it gets too long so here's some suggestions for additional slides
[edit] Please look down below for 's excellent ideas about turning this whole process into one big user contest.
Oh hell yes. Please do update that login page and slideshow! When my friend first showed me Subeta, it took less than one second of seeing the landing page before I classified it as "not my thing".
Ahem. My apologies. Obviously I changed my mind on finding out that there are fun things to do on Subeta, and it isn't all about sex appeal and fashion, but yeah for definite can it please have more varied HAs?
And then ... as well as how much they put me off, that login page and intro slides are just downright misleading about what Subeta is. It is so, so much more than fashion pinups and sex appeal.
A few more ideas: here are the things that I actually spend the most time and attention on:
And a couple of other things that would have caught my interest before signing up:
I love all of 's suggestions above:
TLDR: yes please!

Like button: smashed.
Subeta has gone through so many art updates and I think they need to show off both the cutesy and the srs stuff they have going on. Homepage needs an update badly - it doesn't even have the same layout as the rest of the site.
These all seem like good ideas. Maybe they could also have links the the Subetapedia, where people can read more about the pets. And to the NPC lists, where it gives a few facts about various characters, it's useful to new people because they don't have to read a lot, and a lot of the NPC full entries are a bit outdated anyway. When are we getting the game and "Other" NPC lists and having shop and holiday NPCs added that aren't there yet?
I didn't even realise the first slide used an outdated image. And yes, seeing a male or gender-neutral avatar would make the site look less like it's "Just for girls."
Another comment: how about making the text on the slideshow more eye-friendly? Even just selecting a different font would help. Right now it's low contrast on a busy background; and apart from the two large words per slide it is tiny size, minimal spacing, and in a squared-off typeface that is not instantly easy to read.
Sure, Subeta is a highly visually-oriented game with all the item images and the whole Wardrobe system, but there's no need to discourage people who don't have 20/20 vision!

I agree, its not changed for years as far as I know, and doesnt do the site as a whole, justice.
I love the idea of adding more to the slideshow. My only suggestion to add to this would be to hold it as a contest. We need some more interactive things right now, so a graphic design contest to make new banners should help drum some users up. You could even have a few polls (Been a while since we had one) about what pets to elect for these banners.
I love the idea of the userbase participating in a graphic design contest. Choosing different user's slides and putting together a slideshow would regrettably end up looking inconsistent, so the contest should probably need participants to create an entire slideshow worth of slides.
Perhaps a HA contest could be tacked on to choose the HA's for a slide representing that aspect of the site. Maybe creating a pool of HA's those participating in the graphic design contest could choose from to use. Parameters for a HA contest like this should probably be a little more specific than those of previous contests so we don't end up with pretty but equally narrow a audience HA's as the current ones in the slideshow.
I think the whole page should be updated yes and maybe allow access to users logged in. I know it seems a little redundant but I missed being able to see the front page while still being logged in.
Exactly! So this is how I imagine we would do the updating:
That way users are involved in the whole process, and graphic makers can be stylistically consistent across the slides. Plus then users who didn't get to participate for whatever reason, they can at least get a chance to vote on the slides we use.
