anyone nanowrimin'? i'm not because i'm gming a new game starting soon and two of my three clademates have MASSIVE cleaning projects that i have agreed to help with. but is anyone else doing it? what are yall's november plans?
I'm thinking about finishing the story that's part of the backstory to my game--the one about how Ford got together with Valiska on Pennarion. Probably won't get to the revolution, though--that happened quite a few years later. I do think we will get to the part where he gave her chocolate and didn't realise she didn't know that if she ate the whole box she'd poison herself!
Hilariously, in our gameverse, trolls can eat or drink chocolate or other high-theobromine foods as a substitute for sopor, which of course you can't get on Pennarion because what is that even made from?
So Vali will order the stuff for them, but she won't touch it herself--a small amount wouldn't harm her because of her human-scale size, but she made herself ill enough that the thought of it turns her stomach.

fucking amazing. in the mynah's creek verse - the trolls on earth one - i have a whole bunch of drama related to the sopor trade, because wtf is that stuff?? it's a substance onto itself and the us government banned a person possessing more than 1 liter of it at a given time, bc even though trolls need to to sleep humans can get incredibly, dangerously high off of it. (1 liter, at least, is enough to last a troll about a week. they don't sleep in a vat of the stuff, they just pour it into these gasmask-like masks that cover the lower face. but it's very inconvinent to go to the pharmacy with your papers every week.)
so of COURSE there's a massive sopor black market, of trolls manufacturing and selling it themselves. a lot of the main characters in mynah's creek deal in it, because they're the ones that run the town and their people need sopor. (also, y'know, so many other crimes, because the town's not gonna fund itself. the whole concept of mynahs creek is i like writing about mafias and what if sometimes those mafias are good, actually? go crime!)
also a couple of major characters, Fizbee and Carmichael, were agents of all trades during the rebellion against the Resurgency during the 60s, including sopor runners. it was an easy way to ingraciate themselves to various small factions, because it was incredibly dangerous work that they were pretty good at. they even met while fizbee was on a sopor run (and carmichael, a homeless punk at the time and in fact always, was running from some pigs he had pissed off while scavenging a farmyard. fizbee beat up the pigs for him.)
anyway, best of luck with your story! i do kind of want to work on black pear tree this month, which is a fanfiction i have where rey joins the first order in order to save the rebellion... but my new game takes precedence.
cool!! what are you writing about?
I'm writing a sort of urban-fantasy story about a social worker whose boss is a vampire
cool! best of luck~
thanks! I'm on target to finish, so far at least, 50k words.
I don't know if I'll actually finish the story in that number of words though...
I have a general plan of what will happen but not a scene by scene breakdown. Also I keep changing my mind. So ...
yeah, that's the mood. i just sort of... write, but then again ive never actually finished a writing project lmao
Mine is a sequel to a writing project I finished. So that's kind of cool. (it's also cannibalizing some pieces of an unfinished project too from longer ago)
The finished project is when the main character is a high school student.
The sequel starts a little more than 10 years after the end of the finished one.
(There's some stuff in the middle I wrote about the same character ages ago that takes place in between... several very short pieces about her)
cool!! tell me about her?
She was a good student. She's quite privileged, being white, Christian Protestant American, from a professional and fairly well off family, who paid for her to go to university. She was popular in high school, mostly because she was conformist and pretty and had popular friends.
She is the oldest sibling, with one younger brother. Her father is an accountant. Her mother stayed home with the children but is going back to work when they are out of the house. They are still married.
Vampires started paying attention to her when she was in high school, initially due to her father's activities, later due to her own personal qualities. A vampire hired her for a job right out of college.
In the nano book, she has a 3 year old daughter and is in a 4 year committed romantic relationship (she got pregnant only a few months after it started), but not married. She is bisexual, though primarily attracted to men. Her daughter has some developmental delays and may be autistic.
nice! high five for autistic characters!
We can't be sure yet, she is too young to test. But I think she is. I leave a lot to my subconscious, but it mines from my real life.
She is only three so won't be a main character in this story. But I suppose she would be more important in later books in the series if I write them.
The main character has some traits that are more common among autistic people than neurotypical people, but she isn't autistic. Same is true of her baby's father (different traits, and he has some schizoid traits too) which may be why the baby is... Atypical.
I have never taken part... I tried one year and only got a chapter done... never tried since. ;-; I am such a sporadic writer... some days I can write for hours, other times I go months without much or anything at all done.
oh same. i would actually try this year but i had way too many other things going on. i haven't actually done nano since i was like, a preteen, the most i ever got done was 30k or so. i try to get writing done day to day but i'm real sporadic about it as well, and these days i've been more dedicating myself to game planning, since i'm running it for my friends and i don't want to let them down.
what sort of projects do you work on?
Yeah I am way too.... easily distracted most days. I haven't even gotten any reading done either, which in turn helps me get motivated to write. :(
I haven't done anything of value, I mostly do short blurbs, between 1-5 pages, depending on my inspiration. I haven't written anything longer than that in uh oh wow nearly a year. :(
i like to listen to audiobooks/podfic as inspiration, that way i can still do other things and my dyslexic ass doesn't have to sit there trying to focus, def recommend that!

I'm getting there! Can't believe I'm getting pretty close to done......
