Seriously?

It's a butcher shop window. Why is this supposed to be scary? Please stop trying to convince the membership of this site that meat is scary.

It's getting a little tiresome--the digs at meat eaters in the Neugarten items, and the flavour text for items like "Nut Roast" (just tell us it's made of nuts, we don't need to be told you don't have to eat meat to celebrate Fireside, that's obvious, because lots of people don't eat meat) or this little gem from the "Eco-Friendly Beef Jerky" description:

Caring about the environment is not a process that inevitably moves toward vegetarianism or veganism. The spread of even more large-scale agriculture is also destructive to animals and their habitats. And even if you are all for it, not everyone can be healthy on a meat-free or especially a totally-animal-product free diet.

I can't digest many plant proteins, especially gluten. Even if I didn't love meat (which I do), veganism is not on the list of life possibilities for me and for many other people. Cut it out and be positive, not negative. "A delicious roast made out of nuts" rather than "one of the many meat-free alternatives". Come on. I used to love the nut and mushroom burgers (not vegan, because they had cheese in them) that came from one of the local speciality stores, and they also were gluten free, unlike many other vegetarian items.

Promote how great your vegan stuff is by talking about how tasty it is, because some of it really is (I love Trader Joe's coconut milk ice cream mochi), not making unflattering comparisons to non-veg items.

This is starting to remind me of a vegan restaurant in our area that used to have disturbing PeTA/HSUS propaganda* in their window before they learned that the way to get people to eat your food is to tell them how great it is and how much they will enjoy it. Guilt trips and ugly imagery do not promote a desire to eat new foods.

(And make sure that those of us who have to be careful about plant-based foods due to gluten and FODMAPs know what is in the food so they can decide whether or not to eat it!)

(*I don't like those people; their ultimate goal is to end pet ownership and all human and animal interaction, even though they carefully don't say so in their literature for the general public.)

The meat industry is known to be one of the biggest contributors to climate change and reduced meat diets do help the environment.

'Butchered' is definitely a word used to describe mutilation, something often seen in horror movies. Butcher shops are often used in media as creepy/scary settings because they can be very much so, especially at night when no one is there.

In any case, no one is being shamed for eating meat. Subeta has always been inclusive to all lifestyles, that's why they added new items for Neugarten to include people who don't eat meat on a meat-centric holiday. I'm not sure why you are taking this personally, to say this is an overreaction is an understatement. They are not taking digs at meat eaters.

There have been quite a few butcher horror movies and there are even more where the victims are at some point hiding and/or running through buildings with meat hooks, etc. That item itself is from last year. I don't think anything against meat was meant.

Butcher shops are a common theme in the horror genre, I don't think it's meant to be a dig at the vegan diet.

I am a meat eater and I don't feel especially targeted or annoyed by them, though I don't have any past experience being targeted by a silly group like PETA or any dietary limits so maybe I'm just not as tuned in to it. But there are also people who can't eat meat for allergy/health reasons who might appreciate items pointing out that they are meat free! And there are so many meat items on this site- dozens of meat meals in the food shops all over Subeta. It does not feel fair to count up and compare the vegan items to the meaty and non-vegan items. Still overwhelmingly meaty. Even food items directly from creatures we can have as pets on the site. I don't sense an anti-meat agenda.

The Meat Morostide Cutouts (desc.: Huh, what an odd choice.) are just a horror film kinda vibe. One could imagine the scene being from a scary butcher/meat hook scenario, or maybe they are sacrificial animal meats for some witchy ritual- I like to think the round "sausage" shapes are huge maggots. :D

Along with what everyone has already said about butcher shops and horror films, you're right that the cutouts are just a butcher shop window. Context is everything. The wardrobe gives you the freedom to pair this with other creepy wearables to play up the horror vibe, or to pair it with more neutral items to make a friendly neighborhood deli counter if you want.

I will say I'm with you on Neugarten though. I'm a vegetarian and I still thought it felt too preachy. I think it's silly to build an entire holiday around a specific diet. Veganism: The Holiday was somehow even less appealing for me than the old Alegarten, which was already my least favorite holiday.

Are we really having another "BUT THINK OF THE MEAT EATERS" thread? I mean, yeah, there were a couple of Neugarten items whose descriptions I didn't exactly care for but like you know the guy who ran that event murdered his brother in a butcher shop right? Like no WONDER he has a distaste for meat after that. It's in character, not some hidden vegan agenda.

Anyway, like others have said, it's a scary movie trope. It could even be a loose reference to something specific but I'm not 100% sure about that because I can't place it if it is

Even many meat-eaters don't like seeing butcher shops. They've also been featured in horror movies, books, etc. They can be really creepy and gross. You're honestly over-reacting on that front.

As for some of your other complaints? Some are valid. I'm sick of the, "Being vegan is kind" (implying eating meat means you aren't kind), "people who haven't committed yet" (implying we all need to, that vegetarianism/veganism should be everyone's goal, etc.) and other things that shame people for eating meat.

But like... chill. The Neugarten drama was mostly silly. I disagreed with a couple of item descriptions but not enough to throw a fit. It also made sense for the character.

I eat meat and I don't like it when people get preachy about vegetarianism/veganism (I know a few incredibly toxic vegetarians and vegans that can be very awful to anyone who doesn't share their views) but honestly people whining about vegetarians and vegans are just as bad. I dislike extremists and jerks on both "sides" (why pick sides, just follow your chosen diet and don't try to impose it on others or shame them. NOT HARD!). I can't take anyone complaining about stuff like this seriously. Butchery has long been a part of horror and it makes sense. It's not a personal attack against you lol

Oh, I know it's actually animal parts. ;) It actually took me a bit last year to actually see the pig head. I saw a sack of meat tied up to look like a rag doll that's dripping blood. The chicken I saw as chicken. lol

I don't understand why a few items out of thousands has had such an offensive effect. But I guess I don't understand the offense half the time when something does ruffle someones feathers. The Vegan items are great for pet TCs. They were different and not on the site.

Now if Subeta removes all meat items and changes everything to I LOVE TOFU then maybe I could understand, but uh, yeah. R u ok OP?

There's always at least one of these during Morostide. I get the whole concern, really, but at the same time, makes for an amusing read.

Also, the fetus gummy pops almost never make it into the discussion.
