I know there are a lot of kings, queens and royal characters out there, but if royalty is the main characteristic of the character we don't have any color to show it! My suggestion is a noble pet color, something that gives the pet royal adornments and put them in a superior-looking position, if that makes sense at all. The first thing that strikes my mind is Saggitarius!
[edit] I can see the Feli sitting with a "snobby" look, a crown and a half cape/drape. Imagine the pets being adorned to show how wealthy their owner is. Saggitarius was mentioned because he is rich and have that superior look, I never stated this should be royalty. Literally read the title of the board. Also adding a ton of quotes because everyone has really good points either for or against the idea.
I see this being hard to do without adding clothes to the pet, which is a huge no all on it's own lol
I don't think there's anything unique enough about this to warrant a whole colour for it. If it's just a kind of haughty, snooty look some of the Glacier pets already fit that.
Also just kind of sounds like the Royal colour on Neopets.
if we start the "this looks like neopets" thing, half of the site will be in the list
I do agree with you tho, I guess this would be a "stick a overlay in it" case, even if I think glacier is too unique to be compared
I could kind of see this working IF staff became very unique with their approach. I mean who says it has to be actual clothing... I mean they could have make-shift items that act in part like clothing but still aren't quite there. Like sea-shells and stones and what not for crowns, faux fur from larger animals that have shed their extra coats. It wouldn't be very pretty but that tends to differ between person to person.
No thank you. No clothing on pets. No royal pet color. if I wanted that I'd play Neopets.

Clothing on pets. Downfall of Neopets. MHO.

I'm gonna have to say no. :/ Not interested in opening the can of worms that is clothing on pets. Plus, I feel that glacier and reborn already cover the aloof, arrogant and better-than-you personalities.
I always felt that the steamwork pets had that regency/noble vibe going.
Ngl royal was definitely one of my favorite colors on neo, but it was mostly due to altered art (lol, originally obviously), the color palettes, and the overly "I own you peasant get back to work" expressions.
Largely the facial expression can be achieved via glacier or reborn, but their personalities differ (from solitary to I'm freezing, and from how dare you approach me to pyromaniac) so I definitely wouldn't oppose another color that was more focused on "bow to me". However I would hate to see a color including clothes. Mostly because that would be an unoriginal color (why carbon copy if you don't have to) and because so many pet people are pretty jaded about wearables being the constant focus on the site. Dragging clothes onto our few pet releases would be like salt in the wound.
All that to say, I rather like the idea of bringing Saggi into this color, it seems like a pet color theme right up his alley (and I could see it in his quest shop for more points than I'd like to think about, ha).
Perhaps something along the lines of posh & pampered, full of itself and unaware the world doesn't revolve around them? Very well groomed fur, sleek and shiny, I'd go as far as to say "accessories" for some pets, fancy pet beds, piles of gems (mahar, looking at you), reflections in mirrors, etc etc. The concept would definitely be something typically considered "get an overlay" but I know I'm not alone with a sea of egotistical OCs so, iddk.
I always liked Royal (I had so many.) It was utterly destroyed by the revamp, but they did some really unique stuff with some of the pets that was more than just "Put a cone hat and ye olde dress on a squat animal." Shoyrus, in particular, were pretty interesting.
I'm not personally opposed to clothing on pets at all provided it makes sense. Pants or shirts on ungulates (or the tutani, lmao) are dumb but could work on the bipeds. OR you go for drapey wraps and sashes instead of full clothes.
The biggest issue is that there isn't anywhere lore-wise where a royal color would fit in. Saggi's more an eccentric rich dude than actual royalty. You might be able to do something with the Goddesses (like shrine guardians? Either you go the Shinwa way and have drapey pseudo-Greek clothing pieces or you go the Omen Islands plot way and have pseudo-Aztec clothing pieces like the plot boss.)
ultimately it probably is better as a custom overlay thing but i feel u. i would want this color
We don't really need to put clothes on, we can use royal fashion and texture on the furs of the pets, we can put diamonds on the fur and some other things.. we don't have to put crowns on them either.. I think it is possible if we think outside the box and leave the Neopets Royal color out of our minds..
Part of me wants to argue this because looking at all the "unique" colors, a good chunk of them have nothing to do with anything lore-wise afaik, whether it be a place or a person? Angelic, chibi, scribble, spectrum/blacklight (and maybe more) all seem to be their own separate things away from the stories of the world of Subeta. I was going to also argue graveyard to be that way but I suppose with Survival and the valentine zombies, it's not quite disconnected anymore.
I don't think this is a bad idea at all, it just depends how it's executed (no Henry VIIII pun intended) and could be very hit-and-miss. Clothes are a definite no go according to the reaction but I think makeshift "royal" accessories would be perfect. Tailor them to the area the species is from. Their furs/scales/etc could be similar to common palettes but are more beautiful and intricate, thus giving them the feeling of being naturally blessed. Make them confident looking -- but not cocky. Reborn and glacier both have their disdainful and snobby expressions: why not go for an elegant, refined confidence that says "I know who I am and I'm damn amazing" without also seeming aggressive?
I think there's a lot of nice open workable space around the idea of regal pets but thanks to Neopets and its overall failures as a game, people automatically dump on any idea that might even remotely remind them of that. "Regal" does not always have to equal "human clothing on pets", guys. And another thing: the royal color did not damage the site. It was the site giving ALL the pets cookie cutter poses of an old man shaking his fist at kids walking on his lawn and essentially removing all of the charming and unique aspects of the special colors everyone worked hard to get and weren't ready to lose just like that. Pre-conversion royalboy and royalgirl pets were popular and beloved -- they aren't one of the most highly sought colors in pet trading these days for no reason. Just because Neopets did something already, does not mean that all other virtual pet sites can never use a similar concept and maybe even make it better. That's how you destroy potential creativity instead of cultivate it.
Sorry I went on a rant there. I'm a little peeved how things on pet sites automatically get compared to Neopets and shot down for that reason. It reminds me of those people who see monster capture/battle games and immediately go "it's a Pokemon ripoff" like no one can ever use the same idea again. :l
Guys, this has -nothing- to do with neopet's royal, I'm not suggesting that we turn the pets into full clothed anthros, you are assuming it, get out of your head.
As many said, Id love to see adornments (like I said in 1st post!!!) added to the pet, e.g. I can see the Feli sitting with a "snobby" look, a crown and a half cape/drape. Imagine the pets being adorned to show how wealthy their owner is. Saggitarius was mentioned because he is rich and have that superior look, I never stated this should be royalty. Literally read the title of the board.
made a beautiful point there.
I thought at one point I suggested something very similar, and got basically the same responses posted here, but less positive ones than are present here: Stick to overlays NO.
Which I thought was a little harsh. Because just like said, everyone wants to immediately say no because you're reminded of Neopets and how it ultimately ruined the site by changing all the poses so everyone could put clothes on their pets. But I disagree because I feel like this is something that could be done here so long as it doesn't progress further than an accessory here or there and only for this specific color/pose. You know?
Basically I'm all for it. I would love to have something royal/regal that isn't necessarily the snooty glacier Demi (sorry Refined). Because Glacier and Reborn are great colors, but their expressions and poses aren't really all consistent with a regal idea, you know? It could be done. Overlays are lovely for that sort of thing too, but it could be nice to have a pet color that you don't have to find someone to commission from, it would be better accessible.
I dunno, I'm rambling now so I'm just gonna shut up.
I had written a post yesterday, but closed my tab so here we are with Round Two.
I personally really like this idea. Echoing what others have said, some accessories on pets aren't going to kill subeta. I'm glad to see that a staff member has posted here about this. It gets a bit tiring to see ideas shot down because "Neopets did it first". Just because they did something first doesn't mean it was executed well, nor was it an original concept. I trust that subeta's artists would take their own creative spin on a "regal" color, and it would help to see more feedback as to how to improve an idea rather than dismissing it?
Such a color could potentially play off the . While it was an April Fool's joke, I think this is a concept that could work well here. The pets could see themselves as a godly figure, and thus have a haughty "Holier than thou" personality to them. Definitely something that should be punched in the face opposed to glacier's "leave me alone" attitude or "I'm gonna burn it!!" with reborn.
If white/gold/blue is too close to glacier as far as colors, how about purple and gold? I could see Saggitarius being so egotistical that he designs a pet color after his wardrobe, complete with the swirled markings as seen on the cuffs of his coat and gold and red accessories such as collars, harness, and so forth depending on the species. He could in turn charge a ton of sP for one of his potions, or whatever item that gets used to make a pet into this color. Not only would this be a potential sP sink, this would be a great way to add some lore to the color if it was really needed. (To my knowledge, colors like Angelic or reborn have no lore behind it so I'm not sure why lore is needed to introduce a new color.)
TL:DR; I support this and I don't care if Neopets Did It Firstâ„¢
I'd love to see this done as more regal, pampered pets idea, the colour having ties to Saggi would be pretty neat too.
A few accessories here and there would be nice, like the bits of jewellery the Zentus have. I could see the Ghostly and Harvester having fancy silk robes, the Dillema with fancy fabrics and patterns. Maybe have the pets like Feli, Ruffie, Lain resemble real life 'fancy' pets, like the Feli having luxurious long fur like a Persian, the Ruffie looking well groomed with a diamond colour, the Lain having a long peacock like tail.
I can see them all with a 'you can't afford to even touch this' look on their faces, all smug and egotistical.
Keith is the only King of Subeta.
If a pet wants to buy a baronetcy license through the grace and awesome majesty of our one true King, you can petition Chancellor Phoenix and it'll cost your pet a pretty 5000 CSC both in licensing fees and bribes. That way your pet can show that they are truly rich and pampered.
Once the fee has been paid, they can call their color Noble and get a gold stamp and ribbon saying as much on their pet lookup. The pet is responsible for creating their own Noble overlay, because that's what Nobles do. They do NOT wear the color of any hoi polloi pets that can be gotten from any potion. Call them baronet or baronetess or baronex for their title? Anyways nopet gets to be Councilor.
For less wealthy but nevertheless nearly as snobby pets, the price can be syndicated like CWs are so ten pets for 500 CSC each can belong to their own subordinate and completely made-up order that is lower in precedence. An example of this might be Knights/Knightesses of the Octagonal Side Table, Lamas of the Lui and Ta Stupa, or Gentlecritters of the Order of the Puce Rose Garter. This color can be called Lords and they can put that as their color on their lookup. They too would get a pet lookup seal and ribbon, this time of silver. Again, they provide their own overlay. Whether we need to get to enforce sumptuary laws or not should be left open.
