Just went there to see what pets there are, and I see the layout is different. I can see all the pets - i like that... and I can scroll a lot - dislike it :( I don't like the blank space, couldn't the previous layout be saved and display all the pets...?
click me for quick teleportation what do you guys think?
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
I pushed a few changes today, it's by no means finished. :) I still have a lot of plans for it! I just needed to kill the UI (we're trying to use bootstrap everywhere instead of UI) that was used on the page (various divs used it and buttons). I also increased how many pets are shown on the first page, instead of the original like 12. The space used in each box will get smaller later, so it's less of an annoyance to scroll. :)
[edit]
oh yeah I added a button for when you click adopt a pet and decide nOPE DON'T WANT IT, to go back easier.
say, somewhere along the line would it be possible to add a line that says the pet's species and color? Maybe combine it with the gender line e.g. "Female Glade Irion"
It's just something I've always thought would be handy for poundsurfers but never got around to suggesting ;o
I admit I'm not a fan of the extra scrolling involved now, especially as I have my screen set quite large - but I do agree it needed some tidying up ^_^
I can add that on the actual adopt page, to show more information about the pet. :)
The extra scrolling makes me a sad panda, but I'm glad to hear it's still being worked on! Looking forward to seeing the finished layout.
Species and colour being listed on the "do you want to adopt this pet?" page would be neat, and I approve of the tactical NOPE button. ;P
I love the changes; personally I prefer to scroll than keep refreshing, and I love the “don’t want it” button. Thanks
Yeah, no matter what there will be more scrolling than before today because you see more pets. :) But I'm working on having four pets per row instead of just three, etc).
It looks much better now it's 4 pets a row, more compact and not so spaced out :)
I like it but at the same time... I don't like the fact it stretches the screen a bit on desktop.... other then that... it's not a bad change, the poor thing badly needed a revamp in some way so it's nice it got one. Just needs a tweak here and there but otherwise, good job~
That'll be in my next bundle of changes, so the screen doesn't stretch on you. <3 I accidentally had a div end one too many but didn't notice until after I pushed a fix for the search page!
Suggestion:
I'd love to see it set up more like this to save space and streamline the page. I feel like the big MALE and FEMALE labels in bright colors distract from the pet names, when the pet name is more important information. Plus having both gender and pet name together on one line is easier to read than having half the information above the pet image and half below.
And it saves a line, so there's a tiny bit less scrolling.

I was toying with doing something like that for the page with the information about a pet, in case a pet has the gear icon etc. I can def look into doing that on the main page when I go to mess with the search function etc this weekend :)
[shameless plug]Suggestions for Adopt R Us[/shameless plug] v pleased to take that first suggestion down (in a minute, i'm supposed to be doing some other stuff) and v excited to see what the final result is
also points @ 's suggestion, that would be a+; the font color for genderless pets is this soft grey that can be hard to see (at least, it is for me? idk maybe that's a me problem)
Some suggestions I have:
I actually came onto the forums looking for a css 'fix' to get rid of all the extra space/padding from the big boxes. I'm glad this topic is here! :)
At first I was like alright, looks good! (I love when parts of the site get love- and I'm always in the ac!) but then I saw the scrolling. D: The last update was to make the page more streamlined and fit more on it, I feel like this undid all of that. I'm glad to see that you plan on changing the boxes! Those and the padding around everything is taking up crazy space. ;) Personally, I like being able to see them all at once; it makes it harder to remember what I've already seen between refreshes if they're super spaced out like this. (If I make the screen smaller the images get too tiny. :s I have to go to 65% to get them all on the page and then u can barely read any other text)
Looks like another update is already in the works, so I'll just poke around for css, (complain- haha), and hang tight and see what ya'll roll out with. I'm sure it will be better :)
Yeah I'm definitely not too big on how big the boxes are either, but other than that, I dig it. I'm glad to see it get a much needed revamp!
For your what color would you propose for a genderless pet? Just curious, not totally opposed to color coding them lol
Good question I'd prefer letting the staff decide, but if I were to choose I'd stick with black. The whitish color before was difficult to read.
And for my suggestion 2, either let the image or the pet's name link to the pet's adoption page. The "Adopt Me" buttons are contributing to the excessive scrolling and shouldn't be necessary.
I agree with everyone on the too much scrolling feedback. I liked being able to hit F5/refresh button on my browser to see more pets, because the page's refresh button always took me back to the top of the page and I'd have to scroll back down to the pets every time. What can I say, I'm a lazy balloon XD
But anyway, yeah, less padding inside of each box would be nice - it looks like a lot of blank space on either side of each pet. And then if their gender symbols could be beside their names like Speiro suggested, that would be great!
All that said, I love the changes to the "Would you like to adopt?" page! More info and the "no thanks" button are good :)
I was really surprised by the revamp.
Like , I like the changes to the "Would you like to adopt?" page such as the more info and the "no thanks" button. It was annoying to preview a pet before adopting and being unable to go back to the main page.
I'm a bit put off by the size change of the pet images though.....
