The threads that touch on these things are too old to post on (https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/805169/Suggestions-for-Adopt-R-Us">2014, https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/791289/Expand-the-Adoption-Centre">2013), so here is a list of minor complaints and possible fixes --
implemented
2) The search feature also limits the amount of pets you can view (I think I saw it's 15 pets right now, but I think it might be 12 as well) and randomizes the results.
* search results were expanded and are ordered by name
Adopt R Us - Search by Date? or even just searching by birth month would be nice. Adding the birthday to the adopt page (explore/adopt.php?act=adopt&petid=) would be neat too. * birthdays have been added to the adopt page
Adding the gender to the adopt page (/adopt.php?act=adopt&petid=) would be nice! * gender markers have been added to the adopt page
I don’t know if there’s enough space for this, but a link to Adopt R Us on the Pets page would be nice, since there’s one for create pets and the job agency.
* a link to adopt r us has been aded to the pets page
not happening
1) The selection of pets is capped at 12 and is random. This makes the refresh button… not great.
agreed!
i understand the reason for the randomization - when there are a lot of pets in the pound, it's the best way to ensure at least most of them get seen instead of languishing on, like, page 74 out of 100. however it also makes it easy to refresh a bunch of times and wonder "but have i really seen all of them? what if there's one or two that just keep not showing up because it's random?" and considering the pound hasn't had more than like 50 pets ever since the last clearout, pagination would be even more practical.
the cap of 12 pets per page is also super duper annoying; there's room for more! they can fit! pages can scroll! it's okay! again, this leaves me refreshing over and over and still wondering if i've actually seen them all.
I can understand not having too many pets displaying on the page at once, but it should definitely be more than twelve.
Not sure if it depends on screen size, but when I go to the pound it shows five pets per row. So I think the page should display at least fifteen pets at once. Five pets on each row. 25 pets max? It's just such a weird layout as it is right now.
Since you mentioned adding Adopt R Us to pets page, you might be interested in this topic I made a while ago: Changes to "Your Pets" page.
i see two rows of six when my window is full-size, so it's a little less awkward, but it's still annoying given that the pound has been hovering between 30-40 pets the past few days p:
i added the pets page thing 'cause one of the old suggestions brought it up and i like consistency (it may not be used all the time, but i never use the free food link so... fair's fair); the pets page could use some other changes tho so i'll be sure to check out your topic!
Yes to both of these! When people can have literally thousands of items in a treasure/inventory/etc and each shop has 10,000 lines of items, there's no reason for a measly 12 pets to be the display limit.
And the colour/species thing is a really good point. This can definitely be a source of confusion for newbies, who might waste their time endlessly looking for, say, a hydrus pet in the pound, only to end up annoyed when they find out it's literally impossible.
i like these ideas. [though i think that showing the pets by ID is a bit much, and difficult to make, but i'm not a programmer]
when my zoom is 100%, i see 2 rows of 5, and one of 2, f there are at least 12 pets in there :( my screen is too small i guess..
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
agree with everything here. good ideas, i'm all in favor of making it better :)
I like these ideas, especially the one linking the Adopt R Us to your pet page. I have to google it when I want to pound surf.
bringing this back with another req --
please consider adding the birthday to the adopt page (explore/adopt.php?act=adopt&petid=)
I agree with more pets per page but I'm not really feeling the organization by ID or addition of birthdays thing. :< I'd go into depth but I feel I'm in the minority so I'll just say that I feel like that sucks a lot of the fun out of the adoption center. Just like real life shelters, it's fun to be surprised. It's fun to have to hunt. Personal preference though, I don't expect many to feel the same.
I do however want the gender to be displayed on the "adopt me?" page. It's a pain going back to search just to double check.
pls talk to me about organization! i'm ambivalent about sorting by id (i'm not an id hunter, myself), i just want. a form of order (alphabetical, maybe) if they paginate the adoption center. so i don't see the same pets on page one and page two, you know?
and as for birthdays -- i've been doing A Lot of birthday hunting for my last few pets, and seeing a bunch of same-day pets is kind of demoralizing, so that's why i added that. but because i was searching every pet, i ran into a surprise 1969 glitch pet, and that was super cool. so i get not wanting to see birthdays in that case. would searching by month be a good compromise?
I'm totally okay with alphabetical (especially if it's paginated). That way it's less... biased? for lack of a better word? Because good names are subjective, while IDs don't change and people will snag them without even looking at the name. It still has that hunting quality but you don't lose your mind trying to make sure you've seen all the offered pets.
I totally understand that! And I think searching by month would be a great compromise-- it ties into my whole hesitance of ID sorting because you can still kind of find what you're looking for but can't grab older pets at first glance. You'd have some control, but it doesn't take away all of the surprise. I can't speak for everyone but even though I can't afford to ID hunt the way some others do, I enjoy the searching.
I hope this doesn't come off as me not liking ID hunting haha, I think it's great and a lot of fun, but you can't sort names by which one is 'best' the way you can IDs if you get what I mean.
no, i get you! i went ahead and removed sorting by id from my suggestion in favor of alphabetical. it evens the playing field a bit if they're not sorted by id -- no one can just camp on the front page and pick out all the favorable ones o: ... it makes the pound a bit more like the mystery box instead of a main shop i guess, haha
re/ first suggestion - that's fair enough if paginating the pound isn't an option. i just don't like not knowing if i've seen every pet when i'm hunting for whatever p: (though i guess if spamming the pound is actually against the rules, it's not going to be above 20 very often anyway? so it's a bit of a moot point.)
gonna edit the first post in a minute with what's done/what's not being done and all that; all the updates have been a+!!
