The way that it flickers, it helps trigger my migraines. It would be a nice item to have in my Wardrobe because i love filters, but I only bought one copy just long enough to get the item box so I could get the Battle Coliseum Challenger (and then had to walk away for a bit).

Staff can't really predict what animated items may trigger conditions in the users, but perhaps staff should introduce an option for No Animations on items in the general settings?

Block the image, then. Or don't look at it?

I have no expectation that staff will predict this. This is my own feedback, and I have no Suggestion here.

I also suggest using an extension or add-on to block the image. In cases like this one, the onus is on the individual since gifs are so prevalent online.

Personally, I enjoy the animated item images on Subeta.

Again, a suggestion.

Or, I could just not buy or use it which saves me time and money.

Might just be how I'm interpreting the comments, but you seem to be taking personal offense to the comments being made on this topic. These folks are just trying to be helpful and provide feedback. (Because obviously, this issue is of big enough importance to you to make a forum topic on the matter.) No one is attacking, and dismissing ideas doesn't seem to be beneficial to anyone.

Anywho, I'd support having a no-animation toggle in the settings. I personally love seeing the animated images when they come out, but understand others might not feel the same. In fact, I'd prefer there to be no animated in the wardrobe as a default. While I am not medically affected, I find it to be a distraction and slight annoyance when scrolling through the clothing.

My feedback on the light bulb item itself- I adore the overlay (because huzzah layering!) The animation on the item is a bit more jarring than most of the animated items on site, but I don't mind it. If I purchased it, it'd likely be to unlock the challenger first and foremost though. Spending 500 CSC to get two copies is a little much for me, especially when I have other layerable backgrounds that would be sufficient.

Also, ahem...

I am perfectly capable of blocking users who offend me, and nobody in this thread needs blocking in my mind. You need not worry. However common some users think animated items are in Subeta: in my opinion, they aren't. Furthermore, the majority of those that are animated are smooth. (smoothness is a requirement for CW item images) Did I tell those users how dumb they were or how irrelevant they were, or block them? I did not, and if you think I did this, this thought is imaginary on your part. I am not here to provoke argument, this is not my goal.

Feedback is a thread that staff reads. Therefore, it is important to be clear. and perspicuous. You will notice I did NOT ping the other users. I will not be changing the way I use Subeta if they persist in making lots of products like this, I will simply not buy them and I will avoid the site to the degree that they cannot be avoided. This item is not a general item, it is a CS item, so it presumably is in their interest to sell items like this to profit and keep the site running. My purchasing decisions and why I make them are presumably of interest to them.

I will not tell them how or how not to make the site in terms of toggle switches, which I know they are resistant to doing, and since this IS a feedback thread, I was giving my opinion on this.. I don't want staff to think I'm Suggesting they put a toggle in, because I'm not doing that.

Considering games like Cybil Sledding and Burrero Basket Bonanza have reportedly been causing some users motion sickness and nausea since their release and nothing was done about it, and with all the recent heavy coding updates going on, I honestly don't expect staff to make a toggle for animations. :X It would be really nice for those two are physically affected by the image, but... Yeah. Not expecting it any time soon. It would also have to cover all .gif images across the whole site, not just site images because people do post GIFs on the forums, comments, mails, pet profiles, etc.

It sucks, but the most you can do atm is adblock it, if even brief exposure to the animation affects you to the point of physical illness.

And one trend I've noticed: dropping and bouncing any kind of suggestions on how to fix something that's currently an issue is likely going to land the whole thread in Suggestions. :/ Which is bullshit, imo. And it's probably the reason why OP is avoiding making suggestions on how to fix the issue. 404 - Frost's reading comprehension not found.

Even with your most recent post, I'm not entirely understanding what the point of this thread is. Just to tell staff you're not going to buy this item because you don't like the animation?

It's true the feedback thread is open to opinions, but when it comes to critiquing items and item art just saying that you don't like something isn't really a helpful criticism. People were offering suggestions of things you could do to help solve the problem with the item animation, but you basically shot them all down. So I'm just not really sure what you want with this thread?

You don't seem to want to offer any solution or suggestion for how staff could improve on the situation with items like this in the future, which is generally the point of making threads like this in the first place.

I don't know explicitly how to do this, but I think it would probably be possible to use CSS to replace the item image with a static screenshot from the animation or something else? I know there was CSS posted back when...Cinthia, I think, got revamped to replace the new image with her old design. That way, it would still be possible to use the item as a wearable, which can't be done if you just adblock it (though that's personally what I do. I recently had to block one of the bonus items this month)

This is a really good idea! I always get distracted by animation in the wardrobe too, and I never considered this could be an option. If you ever decide to make a suggestions thread about it, please ping me to it, and I'll go weigh in! It seems a lot more feasible/practical than a toggle for the entire site.

And to stay on topic for the thread, I think that maybe the animation for the Flickering Light Bulb is not smooth on purpose? Like it's supposed to be jerky to imitate how a real light bulb looks when it flickers. The only thing that really bugs me about it is the dithering in the colors. (Though my migraines are triggered by smells and weather, not visual factors, so I'm only considering aesthetics here.)

a flickering lightbulb will, inherently, not be smooth.

flick·er ˈflikər verb gerund or present participle: flickering 1. (of light or a source of light) shine unsteadily; vary rapidly in brightness. "the interior lights flickered and came on" synonyms: glimmer, glint, flare, dance, gutter

however, i agree, if easy to implement maybe there could be an option to turn of animations on items site-wide, or in the wardrobe, for those who have issues with it. i personally don't, but i don't see how an option would be harmful - granted it's easy enough to code. i don't see this being a priority though!

While the flicker didn't cause me a problem personally, I would hope that this doesn't start a trend for flickering-style animated items (as some flickering / flashing animations can cause severe problems).

and yes, I have ad-blocked some item images because the animations are a problem for me, but ad-blocking this one would make it challenging impossible to use in the wardrobe (you can't click on an ad-blocked image to use the item in question!)

Y'all are being a little ridiculous. OP pointed out that the animation can be a trigger for migraines. This is a health issue and something staff needs to know about. It's not here for the other users to solve a problem, it's here to staff knows they made an animation with some issues. Comments getting on the OP's case are less helpful than you're claiming this thread is, and OP wasn't rude in the slightest, just stating the facts. The replies here where more callous than Solsticesprite by a long shot.

Even if staff does absolutely nothing I at least hope they take into account comments like this for the future. They're a small team but this is an issue of accessibility and there are solutions they can explore, at least eventually. Knowing if specific items might cause health issues is always good info to have at any rate.

I'd also love to see animations turned off option, even if it's just in the wardrobe.

If it could be implemented I'd love a way to turn off animated gifs site-wide. Right now I use an addon to stop the madness.

Just as a side note, there is a way to turn off all animations in most browsers (some require an add-on): this article should help!

I trust that staff can tell that "not liking an item" is not remotely equivalent to "this causes me migraines"

There is no requirement in the Feedback forum rules that any particular feedback be world-shaking.
