What game do you always go back to, no matter how long its been?

Once a year or so I play Paper Mario (the first and second ones) Dark cloud 1&2 and Animal crossing!

What games do you play every year or so?

Probably a bit recent but I love the Ace Attorney series, the original trilogy culminates wonderfully and its great fun to go back to. Despite knowing how the cases play out, there's always a couple of points where I'm like, 'oh, I forgot about this!' Pokémon is another big one, of course. Replayed the older titles countless times on emulators (because it's so much quicker), usually try and do challenge runs like monotypes or Nuzlockes to keep them fresh.

Going further back, I grew up with Sega Genesis so a lot of those games hold nostalgia for me. The first three Sonic titles are basically flawless and another one I can keep coming back to. Also Toejam & Earl, QuackShot and Castle of Illusion, Streets of Rage, Super Fantasy Zone, Lemmings, all received recurrent play from me. It's great fun to go back to titles I really struggled with as a kid, I'm not an amazing gamer but I've certainly improved haha.

My all time fave is Theme Hospital and it's another one I could play in my sleep. Management sims are one of my favourite genres but sadly not en vogue right now so older titles are a great source of enjoyment. Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and SimCity 4 deserve a shout-out, too.

Oh and anything Final Fantasy. Except XV, ahem.

Ooo my cousins and I like to get together to play games that are nostalgic to us. Super Smash Bros, either the original or Melee, is a top choice for sure. We used to play Kirby Air Ride on the Gamecube all the time as well, so that's another one. It's most common for us to play them around Christmas time, or at a big family get-together.

Otherwise I totally agree with Paper Mario. I adore The Thousand-Year Door! It has been a hot minute since I've played it, though.

And Animal Crossing. That's a game I'll pick back up every now and then. Usually I play it daily and then have dry spells of it. Pocket Camp has gotten me in the mood to play New Leaf again, which is the first time I picked it back up in 10 months haha.

The point-and-click adventure game classics! Day of the Tentacle, Simon the Sorcerer and Monkey Island. And a bunch of others. XD

I also frequently go back to games that I've spent hours "designing" things in-game. Things like The Sims and Spore, where I enjoy revisiting my old neighbourhoods and my galaxy. I fill those games up with weird mash-ups of rubbish I create and download. My Sims neighbourhoods are basically the most nonsensical crossovers ever, and my Spore galaxy is overrun with stuff I don't even remember downloading. Those games are awesome to go back to after a break, especially when I just feel like laughing at myself.

ToeJam and Earl and Lemmings are childhood favourites of mine too. :) And I also love management sims like Theme Hospital and the Theme Park series. My favourite game from Bullfrog is Dungeon Keeper - I still have all my old saves that I can't let go of. :D

Spyro <3 and the first one was my favourite too. The level designs are amazing; they really thought outside the box with them!

Same for me! I bought the trilogy on PS3 for easy access ;) Other games I return to are the early Tomb Raider games, especially the third one, it's my favorite :) And then there's Resident Evil 4, I don't know how many times I've replayed it, but it's still fun! ^^

Most of the games I return to I played when I was so small and inexperienced! They still are the most precious games to me.

I still return to Sid Meier's Civilization (the first one) and The Settlers II: Veni, Vidi, Vici (the original game not the monsterous 10th Anniversary Edition). I also enjoy King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride and The Legend of Kyrandia (Book One). For RPG it's Diablo II, Neverwinter Nights and Icewind Dale.

Sometimes I play OpenTTD (complete recreation of Transport Tycoon).

Dragon Age xD Always I return to Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2 and I've only just started Inquisition.

Older games I like: Lemmings, Scorched Earth, Hugo's House of Horrors, Commander Keen. I constantly return to Pokemon on emulators and the like. ^^

Aww, I loved Spiro: Gateway to Glimmer. I think because it was about gathering glittery things, like Diablo 2. Old games I always go back to are Morrowind, which is a game I absolutely adore, and Loom. But I also regulary play Mass Effect 1, Age of Empires 2, the first Anno and all 5 till 6 years I install Sacred 1 and play through the Story. I also regulary have Minecraft-phases, but it isn't really an old game to me, because it's getting updates and new content over time.

Oh Lemmings! What memories! Me and my brother once tried to draw all the levels, I don't remember how many there were but we had a folder with all the drawings, I think it's still at my parents' house somewhere ^^

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time hands down. There are always parts that make me love the characters all over again. I play it at least once or twice a year.

Alongside that, would be the other pokemon titles. Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing are other games I like to play when I need something mellow.

Definitely Final Fantasy IX, which I replay every couple of years. Also the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy and CTR.

Oh and The Sims, of course! Even though I have The Sims 4, I still find myself going back to the first game whenever the mood strikes (simpler times!). Would definitely still play The Sims 2 if I still had it, as it is my favorite.

Spyro games and when my N64 was still alive Banjo Tooie, Final Fantasy 7, The dragon age and mass effect series. Those are the games I always find myself replaying and by now I could probably play them blindfolded.

The game I always go back to is Pokemon Sapphire (which was my first owned pokemon game but I did play my cousins Red version), and Okami! Both games I absolutely adore!! I got Okami for the wii when I graduated elementary school and I've played through it at least 10 times, and I also have the HD remaster for the ps4 c: such an underrated game

I saw this topic and was already about to scream "Paper Mario!" to the heavens. :'D I literally replayed the first game earlier this month. Some other go-to's for me are Earthbound, any of the US released King's Field games, Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap... and plenty others I can't think of off the top of my head.

I spent a lot of time playing Mario Party 2 when I was younger, so it feels like I'm going home every time I pop it into the N64. Same with Pokemon Snap and Stadium, actually; there's something about the N64 that is way more nostalgic than any other console I've ever owned.

My biggest nostalgia game is Fire Emblem (Blazing Sword), even though it's a little bit newer. I only first played it about 10 years ago, but it was during a tumultuous, formative time in my life when I needed something to distract me from my problems, so I played the hell out of it. I almost 100%ed the support log (which takes multiple playthroughs) but my cartridge broke, so now I'm happily redoing all that work on my Wii U virtual console version of it. :3c Love, love, love this Fire Emblem game. I wish more people played it.
