I swear I'm not obsessed.....but what about a Carnival paint/elixir/etc option for pets? similar to or completely different! Maybe there could be a ride they go on a certain number of times and then presto bingo?

I cannot tell what coloration you are asking for looking at that item.

Those are regular ruffies (sun, lilac, and gold) with hats. A carnival color would need more than a hat to set it apart from normal pets, so I think this suggestion needs to be fleshed out more before I could have an opinion. :P

If you mean like clown outfits, face paint (mime, jester, clown, etc), silly wigs, crazy bright colorful baggy clothes, that sort of thing, I think this idea is pretty easy to envision and I really like it! I think Waradors fit the bill pretty well already, and I'm really just hoping for a Vibrant Warador this summer, but I absolutely wouldn't say no to more clowns! (Although I'm sure a lot of others would lol.)

No thanks. I'd rather not go down the route of pets wearing clothes. Bad Neopets memories.

If you want a pet dressed up as a clown, a vibrant pet with an overlay is probably the best option here.

There are already pets with clothes...Waradors have hats and capes. Escalades wear helmets. There may be other examples but anyway that's enough to show the precedent has already been set. The real problem was customizable outfits for pets, and I totally agree there. Neo ruined so many good species by redrawing the bases to work with customization.

But Waradors are living toys? And I got curious and did a bit of digging. The other pet species that appear to have clothes and/or accessories are escalades (helmets), popokos (collars), anyus (bracelets), harvester (hooded cloak + scythe), zentu (various jewelry) and montres (tail rings). The clawsion revamp went ahead and removed the old clawsion's collar because... Idon'tknow. I don't remember the reasoning for it, but I'm sure someone on staff explained it and I'm too lazy to dig that particular newspost and poll up. :'D

Even then, the only two pets with proper clothes are the waradors and harvesters. Both of which are a humanoid, and both of which are likely man-made in some sense or another - either a living toy in the case of the warador, or a specter of some sort in the case of the harvester.

I'm... still not sold on a carnival pet colour with clown hats, frilly neck pieces and the likes. D: It doesn't really fit among the rest of Subeta's colours because none of the other pet colours outright add clothing to pets - all the clothing and accessories already exist on the base of the pet species.

All that aside... This topic, under the Frequently Asked And Denied section basically rejects the idea of clothing for pets, so... :x Take that as you will.

Wellll, actually...the Nostalgic color definitely adds clothes to some species that wouldn't otherwise have them. The Manchu gets a whole little outfit, the Chelon has a mask, belt and elbow/kneepads, and the Anyu gets a neck ruffle very similar to what this suggestion might entail. I don't see any reason to limit the creativity of the site artists with a blanket rule that pet clothes are awful and must be avoided because another site did it and got poor results. I do think it's an important distinction that their folly was in redesigning all the bases to work with all the clothes for the customization system, not in simply designing some pets with clothes or accessories that would be specific to that species/color combination.

In any case, I don't actually feel all that strongly about it...I just think the idea has merit and I don't think it's fair to shoot it down so fast just because Neo screwed up (again, I'm not arguing with that lol).

Yeah I agree. I absolutely missed that detail on some nostalgic pets! But nostalgic pets are toys based off of IRL toys, both old and recent. Action figures, My Little Pony, play-doh, wheelie bears, flapping wooden birds, etc. Makes sense that an action figure would have bits of "clothing" and "armor" painted on, or that a toy would have an embellishment or two to make it more interesting.

idk, I feel like I'm coming off as too intense about this and that's definitely not the case. :'D I was just trying to explain why a pet with just two or three simple clothing item additions to a basic colourfill wouldn't happen as an official pet colour. It's kinda underwhelming.

Now if you had, say... pinata pets, balloons with animals printed on, or those twisty balloon animal pets, or even a strange combo of the three... That's a bit more interesting design-wise while fitting for a carnival-esque and party theme than just a Raffles-based pet colour. At least to me.

Raffles is adorable, don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day, she's just a golden ruffie with clothes.

I like the idea of 'carnival' pets a lot! Like the others mentioned, I don't like the idea of clothes for pets at all. Instead, it should be face paint. Or maybe a carnival, harlequin-inspired print.

As for face paint, I could see black diamonds around the eyes, like a clown, or stars and tear drops on the cheeks. Any thoughts?

idk i feel like im the one person who wouldnt mind clothed pets? i love (yes i get its a vibrant pet dressed up, i just mean the idea)

and the problem with neo wasnt that the pets ever had clothing, it was that neo wanted to ride that avatar cash cow and since they had no human avatars the only option was converting the pets. the problem was always that pets were converted, not that they had clothing. no one would complain if they were never converted.

i cant see subeta EVER converting pets (because what reason would they have, we have has) so i don't get why neo is being discussed like their sin was putting clothing on pets (many pets were clothed pre-converting).

That new, fully-clothed Nostalgic Ontra sure is cute and seems pretty popular from all the positive feedback in the comments. Good thing the artists still haven't gotten the memo that clothed pets are terrible. :P

Anyway, I would envision a Carnival pet color as one of the more flexible ones, like Nostalgic, that could be realized in a variety of ways for the different species. We really seem to have gotten hung up on the clothing thing here but I'm not necessarily thinking of clothes for every pet. Some could have colorful spots or patterns on their fur. Maybe face paint, crazy "hairstyles" (fur) and clown noses. Some could hold balloons or even BE balloon animals. And some could indeed have clothing/accessories such as hats or neck ruffles. I just think it could be a fun color with a lot of potential.

It just occurred to me that the Torrent could be a carnival prize goldfish in a baggie but that's actually a pretty sad thing in real life so I don't know, but it demonstrates what I mean about flexibility in the color. I'm not just saying put every pet in a clown suit.

Oooh, I kind of like the mix'n'match idea here, like the one they did with various nostalgic pets. I admit, I haven't thought of it that way! That would definitely make it a lot more interesting than just "hey, here's a basic pet with a clown outfit". If they make it a special-posed pet colour instead of a colourfil, they don't have to worry much about a mixed reception, like the one vibrant pets got.

Might be a huge challenge to come up with something interesting and carnival-themed for 70+ pet species, though. Especially because we already have the nostalgic legeica as a carousel pony, the nostalgic bovyne's a pinata and the nostalgic dilemma is a balloon animal. :'D It has the potential to get a little confusing.

Now if you had, say... pinata pets,

gotta point out, that the Nostalgic Bovine is a pinata.

i should also point out the Nostalgic Dillema [an animal made of balloon]

please don't take it as an insult: it is easy to forget what some pets look like in some colors [i wanted to say the balloon twisted into a pet sounds cool, until i saw the dillema] - and Frost above me already pointed them out, but i'm simply blind -_-"

@ Tiobe i'm also against the carnival pets simply because the nostalgic pets have plenty such hints: -the legeica and the malticorn look like those horses or figurines we ride in merry-go-round -the plush looking pets could be toys we won at various games in a carnival -and i'm sure i forgot some attractions -plus i hate, hate clowns, and i'm sure i'm not the only one feeling this way about them [and my partner wants us to go watch IT in theaters when it comes out, noooooo]

now, if we consider a Venetian type of carnival, then, perhaps the artists could find a way to color the pets to look like that, without having to make them wear clothes. say, use of strong shades or red, gold/yellow, purple, silver/gray, darker greens, white and black... and i would probably even get such a pet.

I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.

No offense taken, don't worry! A combo of the three I've mentioned on the topic already could potentially work if they ever do decide to make a carnival-themed pet colour. It'll get a bit confusing otherwise because the designs overlap some nostalgic pets.

Less creepy clowns and more harlequins and elegant facepaint/pattern designs on this pet colour would be neat, but I have a feeling that the Carnival is definitely more oriented in favor of clowns, fairs and circus themes than it is toward Venetian mask designs. That's more of a Masquerade thing.
