He had been staring at his essay assignment for what felt like hours. Stifling another yawn he rubbed his eyes and looked around the room. None of the students who had been there when he arrived still remained, furthering his notion that he had been working on his paper way, way too long. Getting a better footing, he twisted his midsection and heard a few satisfying pops from his back. Then he bent forward and stretched his arms to pop his shoulders. Straightening back up he twisted his arms and even popped his elbows, to the disgust of a girl seated at an adjacent work space. He smiled at her and began to stack his papers and clear up his space a bit. The rest of the essay would have to wait.

River winced at the noise of the pops as she came out of her dorm room with her peacock, Tavas, following behind. He'd been a gift for her birthday just recently, as had the lovely humming birds who were currently sleeping in a cage, but during the day they enjoyed a magical flower pot she had.

"Ow," the girl said, "that sounds painful."

“Feels good, actually.” Seb glanced at River’s pet and lifted a brow. “Is that what’s been yelling in the courtyard during lessons?” He wasn’t overly familiar with the bird, but he knew they were notorious for being confused with elderly ladies hollering for ‘help’. It was amusing really, the concern a few students had for the mysterious invisible lady in peril.

"Well as long as it doesn't hurt..." the girl gave him a churlish smile. "Quite possibly. I only use silencing charms at night. I think his songs are lovely.

“Takes some getting used to, to be sure.” His grandparents had also been fond of the birds, but his uncle was quick to be rid of them once the elders had passed on. “So what’s new with you? Haven’t seen you around much.” Not that Seb had been readily available himself. As much as he didn’t want to admit it, some of the classes here were a bit difficult for him to keep up with. So he had spent many nights studying in the library as opposed to being all that active.

"Yes, it does." She agreed. "Its a good thing Dad doesn't mind and my guardian is the one that bought him in the first place.." River smiled. "Not much I guess. Studying, hanging out with the lot were were talking to on our arrival and exploring. I'm really glad I don't have to do exams."

“Those kids seemed nice, figures you'd be friends with everyone so soon.” She was after all a walking rainbow, how could they not love her. “Did they ever tell you what the first trial is going to be? Should be soon right?” He glanced down at his pile of papers still clutched in one hand. He had a tendency to hyper-focus and lose track of time. Hopefully he hadn’t missed anything important.

"Yeah friendly bunch,. You're always welcome you know." River shook her head. "No, not yet. I hope they tell me soon. I'm getting nervous. Thats why I'm up actually. Couldn't sleep. "

“Ah.” Seb made note of the time. “Guess it is a bit late…” He wasn’t the best at comforting people, but he did try. “Maybe we should play a game, or make this thing called s'mores in the fire pit…” He wasn’t starving, but any opportunity to eat some sweets, and Seb was all in.

"Game sounds fun," she said smiling. "Exploding snap?" River giggled. "That's a funny word. We could try those things too. What are they?"

Ebele stood behind Sebakhin and listened to him as he popped many joints in his body. The noises seemed to reverberate the quite room with a loudness that defied the innocence from when it came. "I'm pretty sure you missed your knees." she giggled while the boy straitened the papers on his desk. Ebele flicked her wrist and silently moved his feather fro the ground back onto his desk. "You dropped this from your lap just a moment ago," she offered by way of explanation.

Ebele walked o the front of the classroom and put her homework down, she'd meant to turn it in earlier but ended up leaving the classroom with it in hand.

“Snap is a fun one, I’m in. You have a deck? They probably have one around here somewhere.” () Seb looked up as Ebele chimed in, and grinned. “They popped on their own when I stood up.” Another sign he had been sitting down too long. “Thanks. I’m Seb, by the way.” His grin remained as she retrieved his quill. “You wana play Exploding snap with us?” ()

Turning back to River in regards to the s'mores. “It’s a sweet I heard about. You cook this sugar puff called a marshmallow over the coals and then make a sandwich with a cracker and bit of chocolate. Supposed to be a real treat.” He motioned toward a cupboard where other students had been retrieving the supplies for said snack. “Everything should be in there, including sticks to put the marshmallow on.”

River waved her hand and nothing happened. Sighing she got her wand out and summoned the snap cards. "You'd think I'd be better at wandless magic. Oh well."

She smiled at Ebele. "Yeah, play snap with us, but first, I wanna make this sandwich thingy. I do know what a marshmellow is though. I hang around muggles sometimes. Never heard of a smore though so maybe its American?" She stuck her marshmellow on her stick and toasted it. Assembled and smiled after tasted. "OOHHHh my goodness, this is sooooooo good! You guys HAVE to try this!"

Taking a seat with Seb and River, Ebele shook her head slowly. "I'm afraid I've never played that game before," she admitted with a shrug of her mouth, "but I'd love to learn when you are ready to play." She followed the two students into another room where many students were busily making some new treat.

"Oh, by the way, I'm Ebele." She'd almost forgotten to introduce herself, forgetting for a moment that she was a stranger here still.

She listened as Seb described the treat smore's, or what he thought they were, to the other girl with growing interest. When the other girl proclaimed that it was delicious, that sealed the deal. "I love burning things over the fire, maybe I'll give it a try too." Ebele looked around for another roasting stick and some more marshmallows. "I don't know if I'll enjoy it much because you make this treat sound very sweet."

"I'm River," the teen said. "It is sweet, but I think the gramcrackers cut the sweetness."

“Don’t feel bad, I’m not very good at it myself.” He said to River. Although a number of Practiced ranking students were more than proficient with wandless magic, Seb still relied on his wand for most of his endeavors. Turning to Ebele he smirked “I like anything that’s sweet. If you don’t like it, I’ll finish it for you.” His grin remained as he shoved a marshmallow onto a stick, and began to brown it over the coals. ( )

"It takes getting used to I guess. Plus from the sounds of it most American's and British don't bother trying to learn. It can be difficult." She shrugged.

Ebele understood now that the two students were talking about wandless magic. "You know, River, the only reason I use wandless magic with ease is because I was taught by my family from a very young age." She explained further, "In Africa we believe that wandless magic goes back to the first people who could harness the power. We try to honor them by continually teaching the practice even though most schools prefer wands to be used." Ebele shrugged and grinned mischievously. "Although, I think the professors just like to know when someone is about to pull a prank on them."

Ebele handed over her almost burnt marshmallow to Seb. "I'm sorry," she apologized, "I'm just not a huge fan of sweet foods yet. I do like the crackers though." She nibbled on a slightly sweet brown graham cracker while she watched the other students nearly burn marshmallows on sticks.
