on August 21st, a solar eclipse will cross the continental U.S., in a diagonal path from north-central Oregon to South Carolina, for the first time since 1918. Who's either in the path of totality or making plans to be?
My Dad is planning on taking us to Hopskinsville, Kentucky to see the eclipse! Mom was busily getting the needed supplies to make the long trip!

Really? I'm going to Hopkinsville too with my mother to take pictures of it and the local wildlife.

I live near Seattle, WA. Hopefully we'll be able to see close to a total eclipse... Sadly I'm busy and can't go down South to Oregon for it, though I know a bunch of people who are. I looking forward to it :D

Wouldn't you know it, a storm rolled in right before it began.
OK I did get to see it, this far south all I got to see was a small bite off the sun.
I live in western central Oregon so it's supposed to be pretty good. My brother and his boyfriend are coming from New York, and my aunt and uncle were as well but flights out here around then are booked.
Unless it hits Florida...don't have money to go anywhere :)
Don't have the money to get in the path of totality, but I am close enough to the path (Wasatch Front of Utah) that I'll probably get a partial eclipse pic on the phone.

I'm getting super excited for this. I'm near Seattle, so I'll be going down to Oregon for it (have been thinking Salem, but if traffic is too horrendous I'll try going further east). I'll just sleep in my car or pitch a tent if I can find a place to do it. And I'll be packing as many survival supplies as possible. According to all the sources I've seen, it sounds like I'm heading straight into a real-life disaster movie...freeways backed up for literally days, overloaded cell towers resulting in lack of cell service and no GPS, food and supply shortages and just a crazy, chaotic mass of people all trying to cram themselves into a relatively small geographical area. All for an event that's going to last less than two minutes.
I'm sure it'll be worth it though. :P I just hope I can get back out through the gridlock in time for work; I only have a couple days off.
I'm 2 hours north of Seattle (the Ham), and I'm going to snap photos of the partial eclipse we get here. Should be a fun thing to do! I'm not interested in risking life and limb to go to Oregon to see it, but I'm still excited for what I will see of it.
Silence is golden... Duct tape is silver.
Yeah, I can't say I'm looking forward to the crowds and traffic jams at all but I know that if I don't go, I'll regret it forever. I don't know what the percent of totality will be up there but the experiential difference between even 99 and 100% is supposed to be pretty dramatic. I want the whole deal! haha Plus I'm looking forward to the adventure...I might just plan to go to eastern OR anyway; I love it out there in the desert. It's a good excuse to go and hopefully won't be nearly as overrun with people as Salem. Anyway, I hope you still get a good view (and some neat pics) up there!
I'm in Ontario, Canada, so I won't be able to see this happen. There is a lot of talk on the internet that the Solar Eclipse will be Doomsday. I don't know if you heard about the super volcano in Yellow Stone is slowly waking up, but apparently this Eclipse will cause the volcano to erupt, causing all the other super volcanoes around the world to erupt as well.
Now.. "if" the Yellow Stone volcano did erupt, the US will literally be wiped off the map, sending Canada into a volcanic winter for 4-6 years. We're in the path of ash and Toronto will get the lest ash.
What do you guys think?
On Aug 20, I'm planning Chinese Food and coconut cream pie as my "last meal". I know, I know.. it's stupid.
;) planning a margarita dindin for my last meal hehe Heard about the super volcanoes, kinda worried, but this world sometimes need to fucking burn lol
I agree with that. OMFG. A margarita sounds amazing. Maybe I'll include that in my plans
yes margarita it up my girl :* i wish i had one right now but all i have is vodka and seagrams - o welll drinking it anyway :*
don't worry, eclipses happen every eighteen months or so (mostly over water and/or somewhere inaccessible) and the world continues to chug along, super-volcano-free. Have your Chinese food and coconut-cream pie (that sounds yummy btw), giggle at the conspiracy-theorists' flailing, and enjoy what's likely to be a perfectly pleasant Sunday evening/night.
That's what will most likely happen lol
I do work Sunday and I'll have no way of getting my Chinese Food, so I'll probably get it Thursday night with the pie and then Sunday evening head to my parents (after a margarita). Cause when I'm at my parents, I need a bottle of Tequila. They drive me nuts.
ugh I hear you. fistbump
FEEL YOU my parents wont let me bring my booze in their fucking house so last Christmas i escaped to go get drunk before coming back to visit lmfao
Also chiming in from Seattle! I won't be able to go elsewhere to see the eclipse, but I think it looks like we'll be within the 90% totality range, which is still pretty cool. It sounds like there'll be a gathering at Gasworks, so maybe I'll check that out.
