So i had this idea for a while but I figured I let vesnali pass before bringing it up.

The Sable Smithy has (to my knowledge) since its founding recieved a grand total of 1 new item, The The only reason I can figure out why its stock hasn't been absorbed into Thimble inc. yet is because the shopkeeper Mathis is actually a frequently used npc. I figure the biggest problem is that the current sable smithy almost exclusively makes weapons that can be used in the battle colloseum and it takes a lot of effort to keep the battle system balanced, also there are plenty low tier weapons to go around. So what can Mathis sell to keep his shop out of debt? I got the following ideas.

1. Decorative weapons without battle colloseum use. Let Mathis get all the nerd cred for making all the cosplay prop weapons from subeta's hottest sy-fy and fantasy shows and movies (or supplies to make your own)
2. wrought iron fences, furniture or statues.
3. commemorative coins. One for each of the different lands, some historic events, Important landmarks, historic figures, pets and experiments . Gotta give Subeta's coin collectors some love.
4. Armor (chainmail and plate armor ). To protect bystanders from random roving packs of monsters, or the missed shots from the people battling them. Or maybe some glorious bikini armor for those hot summer months.
5. More forging supplies like heavy protective aprons, hammers, anvils and maybe a background depicting the forge. Maybe some welding supplies.
6. Books about the history of smithing or of certain weapon types. Maybe some manuals on smithing (smithing for dummies, Advanced smithing, Smithing for SUPERAWSOME BADASSES)
7. Upkeep kits for weapons and armor (gun oil, polishing cloths, whetstone)
8. training dummys, archery targets and paper gun-target sheets, because if every moron is going to swing his or her new weapon around like it is nobody's buisness Mathis might as well sell these people some straw stuffed sacrifices.

In adition I figure Ian Asmodeus has never quite understood why people keep dragging their smithing supplies into his lab while there is a perfectly fine forge next door. Maybe mathis should open his forge to his customers before Dr. Asmodeus sends his ghost boyfriend after him. I am willing to bet Fantine would love helping him set up a customer friendly do it yourself forge just like her bakery.

[edit] reminded me of Geodes, Rocks, Gems, Precious Stones. I figure gemstones and geodes would be a nice adition to the sable smithy. Perhaps they could even offer gem cutting services.

I have so many pets that would benefit from more weapons and armor in their TCs (decorative, ornamented, they don't need stats!). Plus, there is a literal shitton of options and ideas if the artists want to go for regional historic Subeta-specific armor sets and weaponry.

Blacksmithing gear and upkeep kits would be A++. And more raw gems. There was a huge topic not too long ago suggesting so many new gemstones and geodes for the smithy and the spells shop and I would absolutely adore more sparklies. Or perhaps add the raw gems to All That Glitters, along with jeweler's supplies? That shop is also kind of meh and lacking fresh stuff.

The smithy is definitely one of those shops I forget exists lol Seems like most of the main/world shops don't get many updates any more, but I know the art department has been busy with holiday/event things. I would love for them to get more attention.

yes, please. I have a smith OC that needs more things for his eventual TC and I've been craving more supplies

I actually wanted to do either this thread or one about all that glitters. The latter has however had several baches of new stock over the years and the sable smithy LITERALLY has had one new item ever. It would be a shame if either store got put on the 'to retire' list. Thanks for reminding me about the gem topic btw, it seems like a good adition to the sable smithy and I will add a link to the first post.

Yup, All That Glitters has had some new stuff, but it's unusually dry for a shop that sells exclusively wearable fancy jewelry. :( No problem! I remembered seeing it a little while ago and it fits perfectly into what you're suggesting.

Given that Mattieu is a jeweler, having it work like Fine Fabrics would be fantastic! And it would fit well into the whole "luxurious expensive jewelry" theme he has going on. Love this idea. There would be no need to retire the current jewelry - just add it into his "crafting" stock! Exclusive jewelry would also be great to bring a bit of freshness into the bling market.

I thought about making it like the bakery (bring XYZ metals, gems, etc. and he'll craft the item for you), but I really, really hate how grindy baking is and how everything blew up in price and we needed 300 variations of A Required Baking Thing to bring prices down to some semblance of normality. So that's a big no-no.

ugh yes please to everything... especially the gems / geodes thing... OR!! idea:

ok what if that mine in riverside (the entrance is waaaaay back there, like a centimeter to the right of the water tower) were opened and we could "mine" raw gems and geodes... and then mathis could offer a service to cut / crack them, transforming them from their raw form to a cut / polished / open form?

maybe there could be an element of surprise with the geodes, like there would just be one generic "mysterious geode" item and then mathis cracks it and you find out what it is. and maybe there could be multiple cut options for the gems, so you could do a square cut or a bright cut or a brilliant cut or a cabochon cut...

This idea is phenomenal! It's about time The Sable Smithy got an update, and I specially like the idea of including gems and geodes! :)

Yoooo, I'd be down for this. I'd hate to see Mathis go away - he's one of my favorite NPCs - so I'd much prefer he get new stock and a possible revamp of the weapon crafting system rather than seeing him merged into Thimble & Co.

Using the mine is a great idea. They could use the npc riverside representative from the cruise plot to run it. If my memory serves me right he was a retired miner or something. [edit] sorry for the extra ping

Yes to everything! I'd love to see all of the smithy stuff mentioned in the OP (especially if we get cool forge bgs or even renfaire style bgs--jousting tournaments etc) and more love for All That Glitters would be awesome.

Also yes to everything, but I especially love the addition of more wearable armors and such. There have been many HAs I've wanted to make but any time I find a good armor, it's a CW. There's untapped creativity to be mined in making items like the ones mentioned but for each land in Subeta! Plus ugh yes, more weapons. I don't battle, like, at all, but I would adore more cool weapons to wear or store in my pets' TC <3

I really love the Cosplay ideas! I think it would add a lot of depth to Mathis and give his shop some VERY much needed love. And I'm always happy to see more Mathis. :D Besides, I could see both Nico and Manwar adoring him for making cosplay/LARP goodies!

I love the idea of books too. A lot of shops have their own books, so I'd love to see a few at the smithy. The other ideas are great as well, but I want the "Smithing for Superawesome Bad---es" myself :D
