I'm selling an item called Cat Scratched Coc-ktail Dress, and instead of coc-ktail I see "rooster" tail (and the code "item=" doesn't work). I'm assuming it's censoring the word "coc-k", but I don't have the filter on so... yeah, this is weird.

Same here! I just saw "loving" in someone's post after seeing this topic, and went to check one of my posts I knew would change if this was affecting me too. Yep! For some reason, words are being filtered. But I checked, and the filter is STILL disabled in my preferences. This shouldn't be happening.

This is incredibly frustrating, given how Subeta's filter works. It doesn't differentiate between whole words, and when a filtered term is simply part of a longer word. This can be really problematic when it comes to items, just like your dress. It sorely needs redoing, or to just be gone.

Edit: Come to think of it, I'm surprised it didn't try to filter part of your name. Guess that one's not on there, or it doesn't mess with pings.

All my f- all my bad words are turning into love or something ... And I have this option disabled.

Can we just get rid of the filter altogether? I hardly see any swearing with it off, and now that it's messed up and filtering stuff when it's supposed to be DISABLED, I can see just how much content is needlessly censored by this thing.

Some of us have been pointing out for years that it censors more than is necessary. It's worse than I realised. D:

Rooster (r-ooster) looks fine.

Peacock (peac-ock) looks fine.

Pearooster (pear-ooster) is censored! WHAT?! xD

I'm pretty sure the word "pea-rooster" is whitelisted so if it gets censored and then the censor uncensors it, so it pretty much acts like a censor for the word "pea-rooster" It's not something you should ever encounter though in a natural conversation :p

yep this makes no sense XD and it capitalised peacock, and it also turned the letter 'r' between the 'a' and 'o' into 'are'?! why would it change a letter?! this is weird.

Because chatspeak is filtered. The letter r = are. The letters qt (q-t) changes to cutie. This is why sometimes images break for literally no reason.

The best ones are peacock and therapist. Therapist is sometimes changed to "the attacker" because of rapist. So talking to someone about therapists can be very confusing.

So, Subeta "re-censors" some words to correct those that don't need filtering? I guess it's good that the filters try to fix that, but how about updating the filters so these words don't get caught in the first place? The filters should look for WHOLE words only, not censor every match they can find.

It's done that way so people don't easily find ways to bypass the filter.

I could understand the need for that if Subeta didn't allow users to choose whether or not they want the filter on or off. Why would anyone want to bypass the filter when they can just disable it (when that actually works)?

I'm guessing it goes back to the time when the censor was enabled for everyone. It doesn't make sense to keep filtering words like that now that it's an optional feature.

well it's strict like that so people who have the filter enabled can enjoy a safe space I'm guessing? I've actually discussed removing the chatspeak filter with since it's only a part of the filter because chatspeak used to be against the rules and it was added to the filter when that rule changed I think. That would be something they'd need to discuss. I don't mind words being blacklisted and having whitelisted exceptions though. I have to have the filter on at all times, and it's really just a handful of words that ever show up like the pearooster items and as said, therapist. very seldom is anything else affected by the bad word filter.

So it's not a bug even if we have this option disabled or ... ?

Is there anywhere to request words to be whitelisted then? Because people are still seeing examples of innocent words being censored, like Bastit's dress in the first post. And one of my recent posts had a character's name caught by the filter's too.

Pretty sure what's happening right now is a bug. If the filter was deliberately enabled for everyone, there would have been an announcement.
