i couldnt find any boards about this and hopefully im on the right forum :x but i want to find other people who are otherkin on subeta!! i know there has to be more besides just me (hopefully? lmao;; ) what are your kins/ids? how do you connect to them?

all kins are welcome, whether youre kin bc of trauma/mental illness, to cope, or if you really are/were the thing/character/ect or you just really really relate to them! (please no factkin though)

i want this to be a safe place for us to talk about ourselves so please no trolls and dont comment if you dont support otherkin/fictionkin/ect please. im not here to debate with you if you want to do that then make a topic on the debate forums.

my other kins are mostly big dogs and cats, dobermans and malinois.

May I ask what otherkin is/are? I've heard the term before, but I honestly have no idea what it really means. I'd Google it, but I think hearing about things from someone who's had experience with them is better than just random internet talk, lol.

no, I'm not an otherkin (honestly this topic is the first I've heard about such a thing), but I've joked before that I'm an alien or a mermaid. My question is, do you truly believe you are these things or are you aware that it's not reality? Out of curiosity. This reminds me of going to see a movie and then leaving wanting to be whatever/whoever the awesome character was lol

it varies from person to person but for most of us, including myself, it is very very real. i know i am these things due to past memories and knowledge of alternate timelines.

but theres a difference between identifying as [something] and identifying WITH [something]. both fall under the otherkin/fictionkin category if the person wants to label themselves as such. so some people identify 'with' and use it as a coping mech/ect and "know" its not "real", some people identify 'as' but can recognize it as being a side effect of mental illness/delusions/ect (like me). and for some of us its just identifying as this thing because its reality, they really are these things and thats why they identify that way.

and its hard for a lot of people to understand so we get a lot of unnecessary hate for it (especially on 4chan and reddit and the like) even though we arent hurting anyone by identifying with animals/fictional characters lol but people will use extreme cases of people who do stupid shit/say stupid shit and say theyre otherkin to slander the whole community.

I'm not otherkin and do not understand it that well, but I support people as long as they're not hurting anybody else. I identify with a lot of things and, depending on the situation, can slip into a cat-like attitude (taking on mannerism, phantom appendages, etc), but that's a very limited and specific thing to me, so I don't actually consider myself a cat.

I have had a friend who identified as a raven, but we had a falling out so I don't know what became of her and her otherkin lifestyle.

's statement, however, that they sometimes slip into a cat persona reminded me of a episode of CSI I saw not too long ago. The victim was told to pretend to be a cat while in a theorpy session to treat her need to feel cared for or for affection or something like that and unexpectedly, she did not come back out of it when told to at the end of her last session in which her boyfriend had participated. She'd reverted totally into the cat persona and ended up at a mansion where a man keeps human cats and dogs as pets. Her theropist wasn't too worried, however because she was convinced the victim would evetually return to her human persona when she was emotionally ready. Except she was killed before that could happen. Her friend or maybe it was roommate who didn't understand the idea, went to the mansion and tried to force her to come home. The victim attacked her and ended up being killed while the other woman tried to defend herself. Or something to that effect.

Honestly, I can't say I understand the notion but I don't judge. To each their own.

I don't watch CSI and that sounds like a really awful episode, but I think that my need for affection and to be cared for is also why I take on a cat persona sometimes. Like I said though, I feel that that's very specific to me and that episode probably has nothing to do with otherkin. It sounds like it likely had more to do with kittenplay and puppyplay (sub-categories of petplay, which is a form of BDSM). There are people who own and care for catgirls.

i'm otherkin, i been in the kin community for longer than most, it's been pretty neat to see how its evolved over the years!! used to be mostly therians but i see a lot more fictives these days, also a lot more young kids finding a place in it. i'm an eastern screech owl therian mostly, i identify with a few other things but it's mostly been that for years now :O

nice!! ive only recently (within the last 3 years) finding my place in the community haha i really love that younger kids are exploring honestly if i wouldve known (or really just had a word for it) when i was a kid it wouldve made my life SO much easier

i consider myself kin, but sort of.. loosely ? i don't talk about it much.. for me it's just a personal way to cope w/ my mental illness. i identify very strongly with ghosts and faceless things.

i have plenty of friends who are also kin, but i don't feel very connected to the kin community as a whole....... i've peeked into some tags but i didn't feel like i could relate to anyone else who shares my kintypes ? idk. im just a ghost lol

i've noticed a lot of people are starting to calm down about it though & i'm glad. kin hate is HEAVILY based in ableism so it's nice to see others making an effort to understand what it actually is

Oh wow, my first actual venture into the Subeta forums and one of the first things I find is an otherkin thread. Awesome, I love seeing kin on sites other than Tumblr, haha.

I have a heck of a lot of kintypes, but my strongest one and the one I present myself as even on non-kin-populated websites is (if you couldn't guess) a robot. The rest of my kintypes are mixed between fictional characters and real animals.

I have also noticed that otherkin have been less targeted and bullied lately than they used to be. I think people realized that being kin is no different from any other belief. We're not hurting anyone, and even if it is part of or due to mental illness, it's helpful, not "screwed up" or "unhealthy."

Agreed, I don't feel like this CSI storyline fit the definition of 'otherkin' either, but in fact read as more psychotic to me and I found it quite idiotically demeaning to the human race. I just noticed some slight similarities in what is being discussed here.

And I don't generally watch CSI either but I do watch the channel it's shown on so sometimes catch it because it airs before my shows.

i'm bill cipher from gravity falls, dirk strider from homestuck, and thief king bakura from yu-gi-oh dm! also a weird demon-y deer thing that i have more memories from than the others but i'm not quite sure the best way to describe that one

oh hey........... :O i'm a lil surprised this thread isn't more popular! i am "otherkin" i guess, idk, mostly i just believe i had past lives, but it's a bit of an identity thing too. in any case i am kin with landfowl (like chickens, pheasants, etc.), hares, and maybe bovines... my kintypes are kind of boring i guess but i like 'em lol. i'm most strongly attached to being fowl and i'd love to find others like me but i know that's a long shot hehe ;v;
