Dumb cheaters ruined it for everyone so I doubt they'll ever bring it back.
The biggest reason we ended it was because there was so much cheating. I know some people enjoyed it and worked out things for themselves but cheating was on such a large scale. :/
Yeah I don't think we need this back because of the cheating. people are always trying to find loopholes and get around the rules as it is o_o
I always thought it was discontinued due to the upkeep. As fun as it was, if we got it back I'd want really good trivia questions and to get really good trivia questions you have to spend some time thinking of questions and I don't want staff time wasted for such a small feature.
Don't get me wrong, though. I loved Trivia and if that wasn't the issue then I would love it back. Maybe not even trivia itself, but I would like to throw my approval for trivia and riddles and scavenger hunts done in events. Last year's (or the year before?) Vesnali had a riddle/scavenger hunt that was AMAZING! Or it could be monthly. I'm not sure, but I do love trivia and I would love for it to come back, just not at any sort of expense to someone's workload.

I kinda think we'd need to embrace the idea that people are going to go looking for the answers. It's not that much different from plot step boards, really. Plus, trivia didn't instantly tell you if you were right or not, so you're still taking a risk if you didn't work it out for yourself.
It gave people something to look forward to every week, it was a fun way to get out items, and it was something that you could earn yourself (even if you didn't put in all the legwork.) A downside to bringing it back would be devoting a staff member to coming up with all the questions, but I dunno, I think it would be a good draw.
I kind of hope it doesn't come back -- I like the idea, but I honestly never knew the answers to any of the questions back in the day and it's not like I'm about to cheat, lol.
tbh I'd be fine with doing trivia like things for plots/holidays/mini-events but not bringing it back as a game in the format it was. For something we were updating every week, there was a lot of art we needed that could honestly be best used elsewhere and the constant like very obvious cheating was frustrating. It was also a bit frustrating that with every trivia question we put out, we got quite a few tickets asking for clarification or tickets after the fact that "MY ANSWER SHOULD'VE BEEN RIGHT" :x
I thought the bigger issue was the uproar every time we got an ambiguous question with multiple valid answers. It sucked when you got a correct answer, but not the right correct answer so you still failed. But then people would form lynch mobs and all hell would break lose on the forums. It was like the fallout from the snowman building contest, but on a weekly basis.
I kind of don't miss it?

ha! Yeah, edited my post to include that because we always got tickets (god i'm so glad trivia wasn't when you could ping people on the forums because i'm sure I would've gotten like 100000 pings) about that.
true! And I think that's a drawback to it, getting art assets out AND devoting time to puzzles, but that's my only hesitation. We might not even have to use a new item each time. What about sP rewards? Small perks, like discounts? Old event items? Make the questions multiple choice. There's nothing that says it would have to work exactly like it used to. For all the headaches it caused, it was still a fun thing.
I don't see the cheating as a drawback. I don't even really see it as cheating. We encourage people to work together for similar things (the sphinx riddles, plot puzzles, mini plot puzzles, Genetech combos, you name it.)
There was a rule explicitly stating don't share trivia answers, so it was cheating.
[edit] without a cheating rule in place, what's the point of trivia? allowing collaboration leads to # trivia within an hour of the release, and you get a solid 5 people trying to figure out the answer every week and when it gets figured out, they ping the hundreds of other people with the answer. might as well have a weekly free gift
I know. I'm saying do away with that if this were to come back.
[edit] To answer your edit: because it's something fun to do. If we put too many restrictions on something, it can turn it into a chore. I would rather have something fun that yields a cheap item than something too restrictive that frustrates people.
edited something in that addresses that, replied from my phone and finished my thought when I got on my laptop xD
I DON'T KNOW PHYSICS I AM GLAD TRIVIA WAS DISCONTINUED LOL headaches.
Yeah, that's why I'd rather it be used in like plots/etc because not only would do we encourage users to work together on things like that, but also we aren't all stretched thin to release it weekly (art wise + question wise)! Trivia as a game itself was a mess on multiple levels, haha. Bringing back old items via trivia wouldn't work well because they'd be devalued so quick because with users cheating/helping easily like 2k+ of an item will go out when the question is over! and I haven't had to bring back too many old trivia prizes via crystal shop because so many of them went out the first time :x
tbh i don't even like the crystal shop because i don't want to frag anything xD
I think cheating might matter on other websites but Subeta's currency is very easy to acquire, and the mentality has always seemed to be that everyone should have access to items, what with items almost never retiring for good, old reading/war prizes being available for sP again... Who really cares if people get the prize by cheating? It's still worthwhile for the people who do figure it out. Even the old trivia prizes now aren't worth that much so it's not exactly deflating items meant to be incredibly rare.
As said, we might not need a new item everytime (though it would be nice) and we could definitely change the way it was done before. Maybe you could even pool questions from the userbase and use them in the trivias.
EDIT: Also this might be my problem tbh but I don't restock or frag or vend because I don't like mindlessly clicking on things. I buy and sell items and draw and collect art for pets and stuff but it's all just talking to people (which is great) and I'd love to have a feature on the site that I can use my brains for instead of just cliiiick on things. Wars and stuff are nice but again often it's still restocking.
I would like to avoid this sentiment as much as possible. Cheating is cheating is cheating. It's wrong. It should either be not allowed or allowed. No one should take the rules into their own hands. If people don't learn this, we'll have more situations like what happened with the snowman competition, or spam clicking kiss/dance requests, or any other small "harmless" glitch.
