Initial interest check post
Years ago, I was involved in a fantastic Subeta-based RP, one that followed a crew's adventures throughout the world of Subeta on an airship.
Of course, it was heavy gears-on-everything steampunk, but I'd be interested in doing something like that again.
Perhaps this could be something with HAs/verbal descriptions/dream HAs/art that you can source or pets/pet gijinkas and a flying ship, possibly one with magic sails and a backup set of air bladders around the sides. It could be a trade ship with berths for private passengers and could make use of site events and such, even referencing new items in the shops as new cargo to be delivered.
Preferably it would be something that I've heard called relaxed lit, where the focus is on including everyone in the immediate vicinity and writing something others can work off of. Relaxed lit also involves some sensory details where appropriate and focuses on creating a flow rather than being the most long-winded or the quickest to reply. It also tends to lend itself to a semi-structured post order, one that can be bypassed or briefly forgotten if groups break up or someone has announced an absence/that this post is their last one of the day (and, when they do so, taking their character off to the side so things can flow on without them).
Would anyone be interested in something like this?
Edit: Please feel free to suggest things or reject details I've put forth. Also, ping me if you want me to see your post!
Alright, so it looks like we have enough interest to make this a thing! This will indeed be inspired by the Midnight Lamp (and also Krakatoa), which quite a few of us took part in, though you will not need to be familiar with it at all to join, nor will you need to use the same character(s) if you were in on that previously.
This RP will be Subeta-based and travel from place to place on the world map via an enchanted flying ship (think one of those big sailing ships of old) for the purpose of trading, making deliveries, carrying passengers to their destinations, and general adventuring. It will tentatively be named the Noisavi, after the star from the Stargazer game.
The tentative initial character limit might be two or three per person, though this is negotiable and naturally subject to change if opinions on it do, even if we all initially agree.
Again, this would be relaxed lit, meaning that going with the flow, not ignoring anyone, and giving people enough to work with are more important than speedy responses or purple prose. It also means that your last response, if you're going away for a while/signing off when things are going strong replies-wise, should take your character off to the side for the moment so things don't get awkwardly caught up around them.
Also of note: there are no bans on gender, sexuality, age, etc. The plot will be a flexible thing driven by OOC consensus (everyone can get their own subplots if there's interest, hooray!) and site events including new items/pets/areas/NPCs/etc. Basically as long as Subeta has new content, we have new topics to incorporate into the RP.
Finally, let's talk questions/etc involving the above and characters! Your characters should be possible in the world of Subeta, whether or not they're human, pet, anthropomorphized pet, zombie, etc. They should also attend a thread that I will create involving the Masquerade, which a ping group will be made for/all interested parties will be pinged to.
Sound good?
(Pinging everyone who has shown interest thus far: ) -Bean -Sage
I am VERY interested in this! Like so so much!! I'll leave my info below just so you can get a feel for what I'm into, but geez YES I would love to try this out!!
SPOILER (click to toggle)
>> I've been roleplaying for over ten years now, both in forums and in chat settings.
My preferred methods are; Forums > Google Docs > Skype > Email > Notes/PM
I can play any gender, and when it comes to romance sexualities of all kinda are good with me. Game for romance, but I like working my way into it. Otherwise platonic bros or enimies yeah!
My preferred genres are Adventure, Mystery, and Romance. (Though I'm open to most genres and there are a LOT of sub-genres I enjoy.) As far as what I WON'T do, I'm not a fan of gore, hardcore violence, or anything similar. Milder versions when needed are fine, but I don't go out of my way looking for it.
-Bean Oh, fantastic!! I'm happy to hear that! My preference is for forum RP with a group for this, would that be alright?
Also some stuff about my rp experience and such:
SPOILER (click to toggle)
-10+ years RP experience on forums, in chats, on Tumblr, via Google Docs, over email, and on sites like RPNow.
-Genders/sexualities: I can play any gender easily, though I've done enough M/M to last a lifetime and probably will not go for those. -Shipping: I love it and it's a lot of fun, but I'm also happy to play characters who are significantly older (occasionally younger, though not often) than the main group, are aro or ace or aro/ace, or just have priorities that rate romance pretty low. That said, wherever possible, I like to eventually have my character end up in a natural, organic sort of ship.
-Favorite genres: Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Noir. (I love subgenres and genre-blending, those are just my default search points.) -Will not do: gore, hardcore violence, and most smutty scenes (a lot of sites don't allow it and I tend to be over-critical of my wording/feel awkward about it anyway). I like happy endings, basically, with realistically-handled trauma that is not overwhelming by the end.
That said, I'd love to RP with you! If we do a group, how big should it be? I was thinking the three to four range with open NPC control and the possibility of more characters per player as needed and more people joining at any time, but I'd love to hear your thoughts since it's been a while since I last did forum rp!
Sorry for the delay, I've had pneumonia! I'd happily join a group if you've got one already up and ready or nearly ready but yeah, I'm definitely still interested!
As for plans, they're sort of shelved while I recover, unfortunately, but I was going to start up an OOC thread with roles that could be filled out and such on the ship and an IC thread docking in Atebus, probably.
Was this the midnight lamp group by any chance? The premise rings bells for me and I'm actually super interested in doing something like this again since I sort of missed the boat on that initial rp.
Yes! I was in that group and it was wonderful fun, I figure it's been long enough that doing something similar to it won't ruffle any feathers as long as it's referenced in the premise of the IC thread.
I might be up for another RP like this. It was fun the first time, until it wasn't. Don't know how often you still check Subeta, but you might be interested, too
Haha good times! Yeah I was there during the first masquerade when the group formed, but I didn't follow them over into the RP forums largely because I've been on a sort of extended hiatus.
Oh rad! I wasn't around then, being a latecomer, but it's nice to see that there are others who remember it!
I hope this one will be more enjoyable for you then if you're up for it, and good idea!
I guess the idea, @ all of you, is to make sort of a laid-back tribute to the Midnight Lamp where the crew doesn't need to be set in stone. Say, a major player could step out and someone else could take over, switching to their role, or a new person/new people could be found. I'm probably not making too much sense because I still have a bit of a fever, sorry.
Do you still have your notes from the pangaea RP you were making, forever and a day ago? Maybe you could use aspects of that in this new one.
Unfortunately not! I had a hard drive crash and before that, my laptop died, so everything before late 2015 is just gone, sadly.
That sounds good to me. It might even be fun to have the initial rp about the crew members meeting during the masquerade a bunch of anonymous strangers forming a plan together and then coming together after the masks are off to introduce themselves properly and set out together.
Much like how the original crew first met.
Ooh, agreed! Though it might be just a bit too serendipitous to have a bunch of people skilled in different flying ship functions meet up--then again, this is RP and any of them could easily learn them or we could have them magically taken care of as needed. I guess the biggest common factor would have to be "willing to go adventuring on a flying ship to who-knows-where".
Could always get everyone together, and then try to figure out who can do what... sort of like the first time. It's sad that you lost everything... I wonder if the original threads are still around, or if they got purged. , , , Interested?
: : I might be interested, it depends on my ability to commit to the time is all. I have all the Midnight Lamp roll play pages somewhere in pdf format. If you want to ping the entire midnight lamp group, just use the 'midnight' or 'krakatoa' tag. ( the Krakatoa was the small group of mutineers who eventually reconciled with the Midnight Lamp )

Some of the other crew were (character died during the mutiny) , ( character went missing ) ( AKA Ayakat ) , moondownelf and Aleza. I know that Aleza is pretty much off Subeta now that she had gotten married and started her family and last I heard from Moon, she said that she would be around for A.R.M.
Good idea!
Good to know, and thank you!
: You're welcome, just keep me posted.
I'm down for the RP. Though, I might not be as active since my job runs right through the busiest hours of the day. Jace, my winged, romantic undead and his sister Kate will not be used. There are too many ties and stories tied to them. Max (points to HA), however doesn't have as any little ties other than the Wayward Squirrel stuff. He's not as gentleman or good looking as Jace, but he still has a heart of gold.
Trying to catch up the last 5 years
That's fine, there would be no need to use the same character(s)! It can always be fun to try out new OCs. :D
I think there are maybe enough interested people to move to the planning stage. I'll update the OP and ping people to ask about their characters and such so we can get the ball rolling.
