I thought I'd post this here since it's not really a complaint, just some catharsis heh. I don't begrudge anyone who gets luckier than I, but I have to admit that it hurts.

Yesterday I missed a name that I have been stalking for quite a while. When I saw it was going to clear, I was so excited. Got all ready--and then miss. I was sure I was prepared. Refreshed, have a fast Internet connection, and everything, but to no avail. I had a minion picked out and everything. I guess I should stick to snagging names on the dinosaur computers at school because I haven't missed a name with them yet! Figures none were quite as special to me as the one I missed (not really sentimental, just a name I could have really done a nice tribute for). Well, a name I really want is clearing in a couple weeks and I will be using a school computer (provided there is no class at 3). I probably will cry if I miss this time as the name would fit beautifully as a tribute + with a pet I already have, heh. My heart just hurts.

Anyone else ever feel this?

I've never really actively watched pet names clear on Subeta, but there's been a few times I've glanced over names I kinda like but haven't cleared yet, and a few months after when I remember to check again they've always been taken like a day or two before. Such a kick in the shins, but tbh if I was that bothered I'd avidly check it, yanno?

Yeah, had that situation few times so I know how you feel. But over time I learned not to attach to a name of a pet I may not snag from a clearing account. I'm curious what was the name you missed. And don't worry, there are still tons of lovely names out there ^^

I've missed soooooo many names (Clearing is 3am for me and i'm normally sleeping or on night shift or flying somewhere) XD, but i'm literally only sad for like 5 seconds cause i'm always curious as to who's adopted them and then I like to congratulate them. Also i'm 99.99% positive the other user will do a better job at making the pet awesome. 8D

I've also snagged names other people have been after and if thy comment me i'll always keep them in mind for when I do adopt out said pet.

Random fact of the day: This is how much of a loser I am. This one time as I was getting ready for a Clearing I got my stethoscope out and listened to my heart... and it was going like crazy! I like the adrenaline rush during Clearings apparently.

I once missed a name too that I wanted for a tribute pet but after realizing that I luckily was still able to snag Tower, who cleared at the same day. He is not a tribute pet but his character grew very dear to me over time so I guess it wasn't so bad after all.

Besides I missed one name I really wanted on a stupid CSC glitch but whatever, I just kept telling me that it was just not supposed to happen and it helped.

I'm sure I would have pseudo-ragequitted (pseudo because I would of course still keep my account active) for a loooong while if I had missed names like Prometheus or, recently, Cypher so I definitely understand your feelings, .

That actually happened to me a month ago or so. I hadn't looked in the adoption forums in a few weeks and when I saw that name I was so sad. It fit a character of mine who was going through a name change so I had to settle with a variation that to this day I'm iffy about. I hold hopes it will eventually make it to either the Adoption forum or the Center eventually lol.

This has happened to myself as well or a user has come back within a week of the name clearing haha. (That has happened to me 2 times, but one of the names did eventually clear and thanks to an amazing friend I managed to snag her.)

when i was preparing to snag kizuki i think i clicked 'create' twice because of how excited/nervous i was, and therefore got an error saying the name was already taken. and of course i didn't realize it was because i took it so i just stared sadly at the screen for two minutes, then decided to see who had created kizuki and almost screamed when i saw it was me. i would have cried for days if i had missed him. ; 3 ;

another time i was after this really popular name but i knew i didn't have much of a chance so avoided getting my hopes up, but i still felt really disappointed when i didn't get it. ah well, the person that got said name does really awesome things with their pets so i don't mind as much~

I think there are two that would've brought me to tears if I would've missed it, Chakotay and Meriadoc. I've missed a few names I wanted but none of them was so important, so I mostly shrugged it off. I guess missing Chakotay or Meriadoc would've made me leave Subeta for a while to bathe in self pity alone in a dark sob corner. xD

I misses a lot of names but it never hurt as much as when I missed the name of my RL dog Johan. I had stalked the name for such a long time and then two minutes before he was finally about to clear my whole PC crashed. Needless to say when I finally managed to come back on he was already gone... :c

I've missed a ton of names, sadly. And the last like 6 names I've lost, went to the same user, and they are just hoarding good names :( So yea, it hurts... a lot

I definitely felt down when losing a name before, but I tried to avoid such situations as much as possible. I often joke with my fellow "old aged" pet addicts that our old black hearts can't take the stress of name clearings anymore. I try to adapt by picking up "leftover" names after clearings. And thankfully/luckily, most of my fanpets are from less popular fandoms and have obscure or weird names so their names were just available when I checked.

Last year, there were only two names that I really wanted out of clearings, and of course, I lost both. I was probably more mad about my name snagging skills (which was surprisingly bad with my 7 years of subeta experience) than losing the actual names xD. Anyways, I ended up adopting one of the names (I'm forever thankful for that!), and I'm sure the user who got the other name will do great things with that name.

I was so distracted by the name Yoda, that I never even realized a second name I would have really loved in my Star Wars family was clearing two days later... and kind of found out about it clearing when a person made a topic all excited about getting the name haha. That's about as gutted as I have been over a pet name. Thankfully the names that have haunted my days and nights I somehow managed getting into my world and now my family is complete as far as I'm concerned.

Yep. :c I was able to get a decent enough substitute and while it's not the same, I've grown to love the name I got. (But I'd still die if I could get the one I was actually going for.)

There's another one I've got my eye on in a few months, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up about getting it. I'm not the greatest at competing for name snags.

I don't feel that way/miss things much anymore because I just haven't had the time to bother with name clearings, and with the almost constant empty pound (IDs and all that) I've lost the motivation to pretend like I have the time to bother-- but historically speaking, yeah I was always super bummed when I missed something. I guess my skill set is outdated and no longer effective -laugh-

The only thing I've recently been bummed about missing was Moonshine, and I didn't really go for it so I guess whining about it is kinda moot-- I was leeching off field office wifi a few hours later and noticed it cleared/was gone. I was mostly bummed that someone else actually wanted it/took it than I was actually missing it, though.

Otherwise, I mostly do the, look up what went inactive that week and scavenge for parts or randomly pop into the pound just in case. I've picked up some good stuff that way (Alonzo, Chalice.. off the top of my head) so I guess I'm not complaining. Not like I have the time to work on anything so it's probably a good thing people who want the names get them instead of me.

I'm mostly happy about the current names I have, as I've managed to find some nice ones, but there was a name I regretted not going for, because when I looked it up it seemed like it had been taken recently, but I had thought of it too late. It was pretty frustrating at the time.

Although that's different from stalking a particular name and then missing it once it clears. So.

I've had my fair share of upsets when it comes to missing names. At the same time, I've found a couple of names recently that've been free for who knows how long. I waste no time scooping them up like the vulture I am. It's almost more satisfying to find a name and go "Wow, this is free?!" versus stressing over name clearings and missing them.

Yes, omg yes. I have a specific taste in names, and horror themed names don't pop up that often. Then again, I haven't gotten around to working on my other pets so maybe it's for the best xD.

There's a pet I want to make for a character with a very specific name. There are two choices (full name and shortened nickname) and nothing else will do because of the names of all my other pets from the same story. Both are taken. When I first searched the names, one of them (the preferred full name) had been adopted/created one day before. I'm still sad about it. It's not quite the same thing, but I still think I can understand your sadness and frustration. I'm sorry you missed your name.

I've missed pet names in clearings that I still wish I had now, years after! The worst is when the name is held on an account that is inactive but the user sporadically logs back in u_____u

I don't stalk names half as much as I once did though - partly because I don't want to be disappointed again, and partly because the names I want are mostly owned by active users who have done great things with the pet/name in question.
