With everything that has happened with the Luminaire trees this year, perhaps the actual date of Luminaire should be changed so that it doesn't fall on a real life holiday that people celebrate. Even pushing it back a few days would give the Subeta staff a chance to properly celebrate their real life holiday with their real life family and friends before returning to work and devoting their attention to the site events. I mean, Luminaire is supposed to be the whole month, right? Melody gives out items for the entire month. Perhaps the Luminaire tree opening shouldn't happen on Christmas. Just a thought...

Other suggestions that users have made:

  1. Trees opening sometime before December 25th, perhaps the week before.

  2. Gift Center is free for a certain amount of time in December or a certain number of gifts through the Gift Center are free each day during December. The only issue I foresee with this is that Major Drills asks for use of the Gift Center.

  3. Complete removal of stockings and trees. Perhaps we could still have a tree to decorate, but gifts could be given via a different method?

I feel like changing it now after all these years would probably just confuse people. It'd still be kind of tough though, because I know plenty of people (if they are able) will take kind of a long vacation since New Year's isn't far behind after Christmas.

Which brings another issue to delaying the tree opening. New Year's isn't far behind, so that would be another (admittedly small) event that you run the risk of interfering with if you move the tree opening back and another problem were to happen.

Just some things to consider, but I agree it is kind of difficult when a Subeta event coincides with a major real-world holiday.

I wouldn't mind changing the tree date, it would also give people some extra time during the holdiay to get on and do some gifting. Opening them on December 31st wouldn't be ideal either, but at least it would be a "less important" holiday for many people? And it would make sense with Melody giving out gifts leading up to the big day (that's how advent calendars work in the German speaking world).

I would be okay with the trees openinh earlier than the 25th. Like, a week earlier, like between the 17th-20th.

Absolutely not later than the 25th because New Years Day is just around the corner.

If I am being honest, I wouldn't mind seeing the feature removed from now on. It seems like it's causing a lot of issues (not just this year) and it seems like it's hard to prevent them from happening(?). As much as I love the trees and liked the stockings, it seems to be a very unstable thing atm.

Okay wow I'm being extreme here - sorry

I wouldn't mind if the date is earlier than the 25th tbh. Coming back to my extreme measure .. What if from X to X the giftboxes are free? What if the limit of 5 is raised? [Edit] I'd like to keep the trees, but it gets a bit repetitive to get the same issues.

An earlier start on trees would be great.

I probably won't use them next year just in case but something needs to be done since this has happened multiple years in a row.

Edit: I'm not opposed to just removing the trees. Obviously they're very broken. It might be better just to start fresh with new trees but I don't have my fingers crossed for that. Normal gifting works fine anyways.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind the idea of trees/stocking being gone after this year. Trees are cute, but could just be cosmetic, and we can use the gift center for giving instead.

I agree with Sopheroo. I was one of the players affected by the glitch and it was no fun sorting out and deleting stuff before I could do anything else on the site.

Adding the ideas below to the original post. I've added a couple of my own thoughts to some of them.

  1. Trees opening sometime before December 25th, perhaps the week before.

  2. Gift Center is free for a certain amount of time in December or a certain number of gifts through the Gift Center are free each day during December. The only issue I foresee with this is that Major Drills asks for use of the Gift Center.

I don't want the date to change.

Seeing as I don't celebrate Christmas let alone get real gifts, Luminaire is the one thing I look very much forward to in December. And I would like it to fall on a day I don't have classes and such, so Christmas day is the best time - I'm also very used to the fact it falls on that day.

I'd rather not see trees removed either.

How about we leave the date the same... leave the features alone... and staff just spends some time during the next 11 months and 3 weeks to quadruple check the coding so it works as it should?

i like the idea of moving the date to somewhere between the 25th and 31st tbh. having luminieve falling exactly on the 25th isn't exactly my favorite thing. but i'll admit that i'm not too fond of moving it to earlier than the 25th... i mean i wouldn't hate it, but i like having it close to the end of the month. my reasoning is that opening the trees is such an exciting event that it sort of "tops" the rest of the luminaire celebrations. and if it happened on, say, the 20th, that would mean that there are eleven days left in luminaire where nothing much happens. if that even makes sense haha.

The coding has never worked properly. Every single year, we had a different issue, due to shoddy coding.

Might as well stick to something we KNOW is working properly : the gift center.

I wouldn't mind the date being changed, but to no later than 27th because of new year's celebrations.

I also wouldn't mind getting rid of the trees (as a gift giving mechanism, I quite like them as decorations) altogether. I was initially going to make a point for the trees because they are so easy to use and I for one wouldn't have given a lot of gifts to strangers on the forums if I'd have had to use the gift center, but since I saw what other strangers on the forums have given me, thanks to the glitch, I'm not sure easier is better after all. At the risk of sounding horribly ungrateful, let's just say I wasn't too sad to delete many of the items found under my tree.

Why is it that staff can program the gift center to work properly... but when another feature isn't coded right the acceptable 'solution' is to get rid of that feature?

Because using ressources on something the staff clearly doesn't have enough time to oversee properly, and is only used for 24 days in a year might not be the wisest solution at this point.

Why do we need a complex automated gifting system when the manual system is simpler and actually works right. At this point, the trees are not cute, they're quirky, buggy, and annoying. I'm not looking forward to this period because I am "Wow, how is site going to fuck this up this year"

I gave ZERO GIFTS VIA TREES THIS YEAR because on how little I trust the trees. And I was right.
