I think it would be a great idea if there were a button on received gift to return to sender.
Sometimes someone might send you a gift by accident.
Sometimes they send you something you don't want/think is too generous.
It should also be allowed to work for people who don't accept gifts. i.e. they can send you something but you can't send them something back however you would be able to send back a gift you get from them.
Practically I don't know how easy it would be to do but hopefully a staff member with more tech knowledge could weigh in ;)
[edit]
It wouldn't really be a workaround as you wouldn't be able to send a gift only return what was sent.
I guess I get sent things from people, and it's really nice of them, but I don't think it's fair that I can't send them something back.
If I block gifts then I would need to have a huge friendlist just incase an acquaintance want's to send me something. I don't want to have to upset people explaining why I don't want them on my friendlist.
This seems like a lot of hassle, tbh. If someone sends you something you don't want for some reason, just give it back to them. If they sent it by accident, same thing.
And if a user has their account set to not accept gifts, then they don't want gifts, right? I'm sure that means they don't want someone to send back something they've gifted. I think adding a 'workaround' to gift blocking will cause problems :P
sounds like a lot of unnecessary work to me...
This sounds like hell and potential harassment like "sorry your gift is not good enough"
I'd rather have people communicate more between each other than having this coded

I'd never thought of it as being "got good enough". Personally it's high priced gifts that I don't like getting, especially if I can't return it.
I always talk to the user/s and explain it was jolly nice of them but it's too much, but they say they don't want it back and because of the block I can't sent it back. So I am left feeling awkward and sad and with an item I don't want/think I deserve.
I agree with the rest on some parts. It would be a lot of work to basically create a new system with the gift giving. And with some parts, there are easier ways around them. Although I do understand what you are saying and where you're coming from, and with the 'I don't want your gifts based on a non personal reason'... hmmm... I do see a problem with this feature alone. And you're right, I would hate to have to explain to others I don't have on my favorites friend list that I don't want your gift... and why they aren't on my favorites list. But I would say most would be understanding of this because I can guarantee that they also have friends not listed in their favorites. And would understand for the most part. So in retrospect, I agree with you mostly. But telling someone why you don't want their gift, you can do this via smail. .... eh, I dunno. I agree with you , and I agree with others. I'm sure there is some way the programmers can be creative enough to create something that is functional for all. Basically a return gift feature with a window to explain why returning... and that's it. seems easy enough, but I'm not a programmer.
[Center]well, it's been a slice. I'm outta here. I'm done here and I need to move on to other things. I've grown weary of forum bullies and just don't have the energy for them anymore. I am praying for my friends here, as well as the bullies... everyone needs prayer...

Yeah, you might have the best intentions in the world, but there are seriously greedy people on this site.
I'm absolutely not talking about you, but man, there are people who wouldn't be happy unless we give them a Baal or something. I don't want people to get hurt feelings because of that kind of individual.
I would say too fuckin bad. You have a problem with it, deal with it. Get over yourself, buck up and be happy someone was thinkin of you. I agree, some people can be greedy bitter assholes, but their problem is exactly that: theirs. It's hard to not take offense at the way the giftee responds if they respond in that manner, but if you got thick skin, you know better than to borrow their trouble and put it on your own shoulders to carry. And you shouldn't have to give a response to that kind of person in order to calm them down and get over the anger and be happy.

This seems like a very complicated system just to get around not being able to send something back to someone who sent it to you.
If you get a gift that you think is too much or that you don't deserve, and you've tried to give it back to no avail, why not pass it forward to someone else who might want it? The WL search is a great way to find some candidates and then you can play gift fairy (either anon or not) and make their day, while making yourself feel better in the process.

I'd like to see this sort of idea implemented for Luminaire trees instead.
I personally don't want to receive anything this Luminaire. Anything I want I can buy it myself in time, but as far as i know, there isn't a way to prevent users from leaving gifts under your tree?

Don't agree with this one. What's so hard about just sending it back via inventory? No support

Or just wrapping it up again at the center, and sending it back with a message explaining the return. nods
Personally it'd be easier to implement for users to either enable or disable receiving sent gifts via the dashboard preferences.

Meh, sounds like a lot of work for the programmers (who don't have enough to do already) for a system that will most likely end up with more hurt feelings than not. Whatever the reason, almost no one likes getting a gift sent back. If it was sent by accident there are other ways to get it back to them already.
No support for putting coding resources to something that I see coming across an incredibly rude way to approach receiving an unwanted gift.
What do you do in real life if you get a gift you don't want and/or think is to generous?
You kindly thank the gifter and tell them "oh you shouldn't have" or something to that effect, then they'll usually still insist you keep it, and then you have to just grin and bear it. If you really can't stand keeping the gift you re-gift it, try to return it to the store, toss it in the trash when the gifter isn't looking, etc.
You never shove it back in the gifter's face and FORCE them to take it back. That's what this would seem like to me. Forcibly shoving the gift back at them and insisting to the gifter how keeping this gift is so utterly unacceptable and an imposition to you.
If you get a gift you don't want on subeta just send it to someone else that you think would like it, sell it, pawn it, donate it, or (if it really offends you so much) delete it. No need to program a whole new way to get rid of an unwanted gift when there are already so many other (and imo better) options.
METROID - That is a good point with the trees and worth a suggestion thread of it's own as it will get lost in the mass objections of this thread.

Most of the point is for the users you can't return gifts too as they have it disabled.
I think the programmers can make the decision of if it is too much work. I also believe, much like the artists, they each have different areas they work on therefore just because one thing seems like it needs lots of attention that doesn't mean there aren't programmers available for other tasks.
Then why hurt their feelings by returning it? The trade center is an excellent way of offering items back to people otherwise.
You are probably right as far as the programmers having their own areas of expertise, but I still don't think this is a real good idea.
I don't think yelling at people is worth it.
I've killed my liver on December 3rd with "Take a shot each time someone will complain about their Mysterious Melody gifts being not good enough" Not people complaining that they got nothing. People complaining that they're not getting enough.
You take a shot every time you read something like "I SENT SOMEONE A CW FROM THE GET GO AND ALL I AM GETTING ARE 15 PT WIZARD TOKENS THIS GAME IS THE WORST"
That idea really isn't that great to me, tbh.
nono, I was agreeing with you. Not yelling at anyone. I was merely stating that some people can be downright rude when given a gift they don't want, or isn't good enough for their likings. I hear so many people complain about getting a bunch of junk under their tree, and it sickens me. They're lucky they even got thought of at all, and not everyone here is rich and can afford sending uber gifts.... I was agreeing with you with what you said. that's all. :)

This is an unnecessary feature that would further complicate things and can already be done quite easily.
