Are you interested in teaching a lesson? Now's your chance! Now that we have a few examples out of what our classes are like, we'd like to open the floor to see if any of you have some informative lessons in mind! Given we have enough submissions, we'd love to be able to post one member-submitted lesson once every two weeks.
For your lesson, you'll be acting as one of our members of staff, imparting what you know best about the Wizarding World. If you'd rather not use one of our characters, you may create a "guest speaker" (please also create an avatar to use!) to speak to the school about a subject.
The subjects currently at Hogwarts: Charms Transfiguration Herbology Potions Defense Against the Dark Arts History of Magic Astronomy Care of Magical Creatures Muggle Studies Arithmancy Divination Ancient Runes Flying
BUT you can talk about subjects that are not part of the curriculum too! For instance, if you'd like to speak about Healing Magic and have a guest speaker from St. Mungo's, that would be fine too!
When you have your lesson all written out, all submissions should be sent to through sMail! This way we're able to keep the lesson (and the answers) from being seen before we're ready.
If your lesson is used, you will earn 75 points for your House! Keep in mind, however, that if your lesson is used, you will not be allowed to submit answers for the lesson!
A few rules: 1.) Please refrain from using assignments that involve roleplay. 2.) You are only allowed to submit one lesson at a time. If your lesson is used, you are allowed to submit another, but it may be a while before it is used! 3.) Admins may reject your lesson for any reason. If we do, we will let you know why it was rejected. You are then allowed to submit a new lesson. 4.) Please do not reuse a topic that has already been covered by the admins! 5.) Your lesson (not including explaining the assignment) should be at least 250 words in length. Keep in mind that this is a MINIMUM, and any lesson should cover its topic fully, regardless of the length. 6.) You can suggest how many House Points will be given out for the assignments, however the admins reserve the right for final decision on how many points will be awarded.
As you can probably imagine, there aren't enough weeks in the term to ensure that everyone has a chance to have their lesson used. Since that's the case, if you submit a lesson, it may be until the next term or so before we are able to use it! If you for any reason feel like you'd rather have us wait to use yours until the next term, let us know! We'll keep it in mind.
Submissions will remain open indefinitely! Good luck!
Do we have a list of staff teachers that we submit as? and should we claim a topic or just create something and hope no one else had the same idea?
YEEEESSSSS!!!! So excited! Thank you for this!
Darn. I was so hoping that you would have your own class instead of having to act as one the pre-created teachers XP Oh well. I'm still interested...
will this mean no RPing assignments from both admin or students? I was kinda taken off guard when Gryffindor created an assignment that involved RPing o.o

You can roleplay in your lesson, but I'd prefer it if you didn't do a roleplay assignment like what was done for Herbology and for Arithmancy! The upkeep for the roleplaying assignments is pretty high, and I am hoping to keep it as simple as possible. Plus then it comes down to the question do the admins do the upkeep, or the member that made the lesson?
yeah, I can understand that. Will there still be RPing assignments put forth by Admins? It's not a lesson I'd take part in as it takes so much time to do lol!

There will be some in the future, but I think we're going to try to hit all the different types pretty evenly. I know my next lesson is probably going to be a short answer or essay question assignment.
okay, thanks. Will we be allowed to set the House Points for the assignments? Personally I love giving HP/answer submitted xP

Oh, I knew I forgot to add something to the post! You can set a suggested maximum number of House Points, but we will reserve final decision. As far as whether members will be able to grade the assignments, I think that's something that will have to be kept to the admins, but I'm going to need to consult Gryffindor on that.
I'm not concerned about grading, but it'd be nice if we could suggest the max amount of points allowed to earn/assignment. Are bonus points allowed? :o

This is snazzy! I'll definitely work on something.
I'd like to do this after I've "officially" gotten to know more of the staff. I actually prefer the roleplay activities because it's much more difficult to cheat or be "wrong," but I can see why answers that can be looked up in the books or researched online would be better for awarding points fairly for member taught classes. Roleplaying takes a lot of effort but it's fun doing it in this kind of RP-based cult since the Potterverse is such a set entity.
My lesson will be general info about wand woods and cores. I'm hoping that people will be able to access Pottermore (it's free) to tell me their wand stats. Which subject(s)/prof(s) do you think this would pertain to?

Hey guys, we've decided to tweak the rules a bit! You are now allowed to use guest speakers (and make an avatar to go with your class)! and I have also decided that you can also go beyond the scope of the main classes and talk on topics that wouldn't really fit into any of the main subjects.
Hope this helps with your question! Though there are a few subjects you COULD try to fit them in with (if you wanted to put a spin on it for History of Magic, you could do how the combinations were discovered, do a COMC class on Bowtruckles to speak about the woods, etc.)
Since you're the only one that's submitted a lesson so far, if you'd like to resubmit given the new rules, please feel free! If not, let me know that you would still like me to use the one you submitted.
If only uni wasn't so hectic right now, I would love to do this. But I can barely write the essays I need to do let alone plan a class haha
does that mean similar topics that could be found in both worlds like music? (they had choir in the wizarding world)

The regular class teacher is in my opinion perfect for the lesson I wrote. I can go and change things, but I'm not sure if I will make it better that way. Knowing me it will be vague if I try to do that LOL
I did however smail you about a part to clarify something ;)
