the debate forum should be closed down? seems to me that "debate" is just code for "a place for me to voice my bigoted 'opinions' under the guise of intellectual discussion without allowing anyone to call me an asshole because then i'll just cry to the mods that i'm being personally attacked." i don't think i've ever seen a legitimate debate there, just variations of "is this sexuality/gender real or is everyone who identifies as it just a fake special snowflake liar?" and "are trans people just delusional?" and "lmao don't you hate those awful shrieking SJWs and wish they would shut up already about their made up issues like 'cultural appropriation' and 'fatphobia'?" and "sex workers are a bunch of stupid filthy whores."

you would think such users would be reprimanded for violating the community guidelines (remember the part about not being a jerk and how bigotry is not welcome here?) but it appears that, as long as said 'opinions' are phrased "politely" or "intellectually" enough, it's written off as rational discussion for the sake of broadening perspectives or whatever. idk i just get really uncomfortable every time i accidentally scroll too far down the forums page and catch sight of another one of those awful topic titles.

Yes, it should be closed down. At this point, I don't see what it brings to Subeta.

The debate forum has always been one of my least frequented forums so I wouldn't miss it.

I am always all over every forum.. but that one I could do without. In the meantime I just don't visit it too often!

I thought I read one time that someone in staff thinks it should be shut down too. I don't think it'll be around forever. and I'm perfectly fine with this. I read what's written there some times and I just refrain from posting so I do not get in trouble.

Either close it down or have moderation there be a lot more strict. I will never understand the concept of posting BS opinions there just to follow up with "don't ping me I'm not arguing my opinions" in the debate forum. As much as I enjoy reading actual, insightful debates, it's obvious subeta can't handle it.

The 'debates' are just a bunch of people agreeing with the op. Those who disagree will be assaulted on and insulted on a personal level. How mature is that? :)

While there are real issues out there that could stand to be discussed/debated, Subeta just doesn't really feel like the place for it? Like I'm over here feeding my virtual pet and basically playing a dressup game in the wardrobe, and then someone else is over there debating abortion or something? It's a little surreal.

good riddance i say. there is a time and a place for discussion of serious topics, but "debate" on a site like this will always be the same nonsense.
