(This is the place to meet the teachers and ask them questions. Just a bit of rp fun :) ) "Do you kids ever stop talking? I hope you expend this much energy in my classes as you do chattering with each other!" Professor Carlos Valdez smiles warmly, despite his attitude. "Now before you assault me with questions about why I'm not trying to run for Headmaster, let me just point out that teaching you brats Defense Against the Dark Arts is more than enough for me to handle."

"Finally! Somefin' interestin'!" Pemberley takes note of the hook prosthetic and raises a brow, weren't there ways in the wizarding world to replace or regrow a hand? Though she honestly found the muggle's solution of building a robotic hand much more interesting. She pulled a charcoal from behind her ear and absently started to sketch.
Mr. Valdez, do you need a chocolate frog? I'm sure I have one somewhere around here.

"Nice to meet you Professor Valdez! I can't wait to start your class. I can honestly say I'm a little nervous, but very excited to show you what I can do!" To self: "Phew, I hope that was a good first impression."
whispers to other students "Is it too soon to ask what happened to his hand...?"

"Chocolate frogs? Niña, I would love one." He backs up a bit, as more students start crowding around him. "Alright, give me some breathing room before I hex you all into mañana"

Pem whispers to , "Iunno, why doncha try it." She grinned a cheshire grin, on of her canine were chipped. She sounded like her family was not the richest sort, her accent a bit...uncultured. Her fingers were sooty from what looked like a stick of charcoal. "Curious, ri'?"
-Meg hands the Professor a Chocolate Frog-
"There you are, sir! You seemed a bit out of sorts and I recall chocolate always helps," she offers him a smile and takes her seat with the other Hufflepuffs.

"What are you two whispering about over there... go on, spit it out!"

looks around anxiously "I...uh...I didn't mean...I don't think...I can't ask him that, Pem! Why can't you ask him?" pokes
jumps Thinking: oh god oh god oh god what do I tell him??

Pem speaks up, even though her accent is rough, there's no mocking or malice in her question, "How'd ya lose yer arm? Why didn' you get is fix wif magic?" She grins and nudges Amanda as she flounders.
blushing furiously "That's not what I meant professor, honestly!" shoots Pem a dirty look "I just meant...a hook is an interesting choice...how did it come to be? If..um...you don't mind us asking of course?"
Scurries away to sit in the back of the Ravenclaws, still blushing furiously, nervous she made a silly impression on the Professor, and possibly her fellow classmates.

Wow, that's a pretty bold question, thinks Rose. Surely everyone is wondering though. Probably best to get it out of the way right away. At least those girls had the guts to ask... She sits patiently at her desk, waiting to hear the story behind the hook.
"This thing?" He laughs and removes the hook, revealing a stub that stopped at the wrist. "You students know that once something is cursed off, it can't be fixed. Come on, that's basic stuff!" He shook his head. "I bet I'm going to have to keep an eye on you two, you look like trouble makers." He didn't go into detail about how he lost it, that's more a story for only his close friends. "Don't you have stuff to do? Ãndale! Get outta here!"

Pem nods, satisfied with the answer and hopes he'll explain better in class. She takes her sketchbook and walks off to the Hufflepuff table.
Amanda gives Professor Valdez a nod and a small smile before turning back to her schoolwork. A small part of her is still wondering about the hook though...

"I hear it is my turn to speak to you all, children," the Potions Master says as she takes her seat at the teachers table. Professor Jade Mathers takes a sweeping glance around the Great Hall. "Not many of you here tonight, I see. Must be cheerfully warm outside..." Though she uses the word cheerfully, she looks more like the warmth would do nothing to cheer her. "I'll have no nonsense in the Great Hall tonight, chaps. Eat your supper, ask your questions, then kindly take your shenanigans outside while the sun is still up."
"Good evening Professor. I'm Poppy Blackwood from Slytherin House. Do you have any favored potions because of their effects or how they're brewed?"

Professor Mathers takes a small sip of water while she ponders the answer, and possibly hiding a smile. "The Potion for Dreamless Sleep has always been a favorite of mine, Miss Blackwood. I was plagued with night terrors as a small child. I found it quite helpful. Though if it is made wrong, it can have some terrible side effects. I also would not recommend drinking it on a regular basis. Not only are dreams important to our health, the potion can turn your fingernails quite green if taken too often. Biscuit?" She holds up a tin of shortbread biscuits to the girl.
"Thank you, I'm very fond of biscuits." She stirs the tea in her cup idly and wonders if Professor Mathers is joking about the green fingernails. Poppy recalls a story about a witch who accidentally killed her Muggle lover. The nightshade she put him to sleep with built up in his system and he returned to haunt her after he succumbed to its effects.
"May I ask who the Heads of House are?"
