Death in the Skies AKA Who Invited These Guys?

With Lightning captured and both he and Rosemary under vigilant guard by Tony and Jedro, it appears as if Sunny's murder has been solved. You all get a good night's rest, although the fate of your companions weighs on your minds.

However, the next morning, when Kelian goes to check the cells, both men are unconscious on the floor and the prisoners have escaped. Kelian and Tanaka search for them, but a missing craft from one of the back junkyard strips confirms the worst. They have gone to join the Unseelie forces.

"The attack is imminent, then," Termina remarks grimly, "and, unless our companions were successful, it will be the first of many."

"It's late, and there's a huge storm mounting," Nancy remarks. "I'm getting worried for them."

"I see a dust cloud!" Larianne says, pointing down the road. "I think they're back!"

Sure enough, here they come, with TwoFer proudly leading the pack, carrying Lappy piggyback. Clearly, they are utterly exhausted, but even Grumpus has managed a smile. It's clear they have learned much.

Everyone runs out to greet them, and Larianne scoops Lappy from TwoFer's shoulders. "Are you all right?"

"I was a bit foolish and overenthusiastic I'm afraid, Mistress. My back leg is causing me some trouble."

"For some reason, we made a mad dash at the barge, and fell off the gangplank," OneToo explains. "He landed wrong."

"Leave it to a dog," Grumpus rolls his eyes. "I'm going up to see Vibrissa."

"Well, foolish or not," Ertrude adds, carefully examining Lappy's hind leg, "you'll be fine in a day or two. it's just a sprain."

"I most regret not being able to accompany the others into the tunnel and scout the Unseelie Lands. However, Niobe and I did have a nice chat."

Behind them, the other companions are chattering away about camps full of spiders and skeletons, how much ordnance and supplies they managed to destroy, and the strength of the forces marshaling.

"But we found the base of the Wardroot. It's still on the other side of the tunnel," TwoFer explains. "Right now, the three locks are surrounded and guarded by twelve pixies."

"That would be the Color Guard Captains of the Six Seelie Noble Houses. Two of each, right, and in six colors?" asks Termina.

"Yes, m'am," OneToo answers.

Delgar shakes his head in wonder. "I thought they were only a legend."

"Very real," Termina replies. "They change shifts back and forth every new moon. However, no one directly knows the configuration to get them to draw apart so the locks can be accessed by the three keys. I imagine the Unseelie would think nothing of the killing them, but the magic protecting them is very ancient and strong. Besides, they would need the three keys to let those forces we've been hearing about through."

"No one knows their secret?" marvels Larianne.

"Not even I," Termina smiles, "but I do know the clues to deduce their formation. If we had the three keys, we coulld move them into position."

"How are they arranged?" Nancy joins them in equal curiosity.

"When moved, they should stand in two lines of six, one line above and one below the lock openings. They wear their house colors, so there are two each of Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Purple, and White.

"In each line, there can be only one of each color, and no color can be in the same position on each line. Each color is used once, and only once, in each line. They stand always facing each other.

"There's more. Because of old alliances, the purple captain always stands opposite the white, while red will only stand opposite blue or green. The White house is related to the red house, so red will always stand next to white, but never opposite.

"Old rivalries count also, so yellow never appears opposite red, and never in the second position. To insure luck, green will only stand first or last.

"So you see, we could easily place them, but they won't budge without the keys, and the locks won't take the keys unless the Color Guards are in place."

"And they don't have the keys," Tanaka says softly, so the only redress is..."

"To attack us," Kelian finishes grimly.

Oh, delicious! Fresh meat!

And that's when you hear it. An unearthly sound somewhere between a scream and a rumble.

All of you run out, and look at the gathering skies not that far away. It's as horrible as you might expect. Everything force in the Borderlands that the Unseelie could call, turn, enchant, or otherwise recruit has banded together for the assault. You face:

The Death Dragon!

Quote
A black dragon as large as a planet with spikes all over appears on the horizon. It takes a few minutes to realize that its not actually a dragon, but a wicked looking spaceship. The wings of this spaceship beast are stationary and seem to hold a massive array of weapons, not the least are the disruptor beams that can freeze a small craft in place allowing for leisurely destruction.

The hindquarters shift to reveal a docking station, with hundreds of small ships ready to launch launch out directly at you.
To make matters worse the dragon ship is emitting some kind of steam from its mouth--but its not steam per se, more likely some kind of poison.

Behind the this dastardly dragon await thirty or so individual vessels similar to the Trainquility line of fighters, but twisted sickening ships made of odd pieces and even bones held together by magical clouds of sickening reds and oranges, burning with dangerous fires. These ships are armed to the teeth with cannons and lasers.

"Into the Air!" shouts Jack, and the Crystanians dash for their ships.

Kelian catches Tanaka's arm. "Just get me to Lightning, wherever he is. I owe him for Sunny!"

Tanaka nods, and Larianne catches up to the two of them. "I'm going with you!"

"NO!" the two men shout simulananeously, pushing her back toward Winton.

And then it's chaos. Teams with space vessels rush to their ships, while the others are directed into the air hangers and onto the strips by Pusgy and Ms. Miranda. Everyone is dashing everywhere, loading weapons, readying magic, and preparing for the most desperate battle yet.

In the bustle generated and Winton's role in helping Ertrude with some supplies, Larianne is on her own. She can't not go, so she slides close to the fast fighter Kelian and Tanaka have selected and quietly climbs into the tail section, where she hunkers behind a small tracer crate. There is a soft thud beside her and a little moan of pain and she sees Lappy limping toward her.

"What are you doing here?" She scoops him up and cuddles him.

"Dogs never leave, Mistress, not even in times in trouble. I'll protect you as I can, and I believe I can help find Lightning."

"We might be killed, Lappy."

"Perhaps, Mistress, but I believe there is still too much to do."

(OOC: This is a puzzle and battle RP challenge. You need to correctly place the Color Guards into their lines, AND also to do your part in the DeathDragon battle. You have until 11:59 Subeta time on August 6th to give me a grand finale!

This is the first All Teams cooperative battle. Please pick a part you want your teams to do. You may ask other teams what part they are doing, but on the OOC thread unless you stay in character here. It might be wise to consider your vessels to decide what you want to do. Larger vessels seem the best bet to take out the deathship itself, after all:

[spoiler=The Stone Cold Rogues In The Final Battle Part One]

Chapter 10 Phase One Destroy The Dragon Ship Bridge

Quote
Alphonse the Warrior Has A Dilemma:

Thanks to the excellent treatment he had received, together with the remedies Lady Frieda had brought back from The Catchment, the Warrior&;s recovery from Border Fever had been swift. But no sooner was he on his feet the next morning than he found himself promptly rushed off them again. The mysterious appearance of Lady Aicha&;s undergarments in his room&;s cupboard had both baffled and unnerved him. Of course, it wasn&;t a surprise. He was strong, handsome, skilled, an impeccable and stylish dresser. And she, who would only have the strongest and the best, had found herself irresistibly drawn to him. Alphonse shook his head at the thought.

How could he have missed that? He peeked out of his room to see if he could spot Aicha anywhere, and was rather relieved when he couldn&;t. He shut the door and sat back on his bed to consider the situation. He had barely begun to recall and deplore the otherwise beautiful Mage&;s fondness for wearing blood (and entrails. And bits of bone) when the horrific sound outside had him racing out the door of the Squirrel to stand by his teammates as they watched the Unseelie fleet approach.

The terrifying sight quickly wiped all other thoughts from his mind. For a moment, his blood froze. Was that thing a dragon? A warped, twisted dragon from some nightmarish world that had never known the light of day? He took a step back, forcing himself to think. No, no dragon was this monstrous size. It was no living creature, but a ship. A ship that bristled with an assortment of hideously efficient looking weapon, several smaller ships inside and poison gas emanating from its "mouth". He would have preferred an actual dragon.

As he cleared his head, Lady Frieda quickly excused herself to speak to the Captains of the other teams. Seeing the swiftness with which she had pulled herself together and taken charge, Alphonse felt ashamed of his panic. Taking a deep breath, he set to work, marshalling his team and getting everyone to work fuelling the Terrapin Glider and bringing her engines online.

Just as this was accomplished, Frieda came running back, and he waved everyone to gather around her. He felt a wave of admiration as she rapidly instructed everyone, taking over the role of leader as was her right. He saluted as she told him his post and grinned at her. "Not a single shot will miss, My Lady." He faltered slightly when the next sentence told him who would be his companion in this, and resolved to have a word with Lady Aicha as soon as possible. As bold as she was, and clearly besotted by him, she would likely feel no compunction whatsoever with attempting something when they were alone together. He would have to tell her to restrain herself. This was not the time for... distractions.

Unfortunately, his pious thoughts almost distracted him from boarding the ship, and he had to hurry to catch up with the rest of the crew, and then make an undignified scramble into his suit. He reached his post just as Lady Frieda called for a radio check, and then busied himself with charging the nose gun. Aicha worked beside him, showing not the slightest sign of infatuation. Alphonse could not help but feel relieved- and a little disappointed. Clearly she knew how to resist temptation.

The sound of the engines and the sensation of movement told him that they had taken off. “Weapons check! Everybody fire their weapons, watch out for friendlies.” he heard Lady Frieda call, and immediately fired the nose gun, making sure that it pointed away from the Defenders. The resounding boom of the powerful cannon, followed by the retorts of the other guns soothed him, giving him the concentration he needed. Remembering the checklist, he quickly recounted the number of power cores. With ten shots per core, there were enough for two hundred. He would make every single one count.

Aicha the Mage Considers Her Next Move

Quote
As Aicha returned to her room, she immediatly noticed something was amiss. A drawer was missing from her wardrobe. Walking over the mage frowned deeply - it was the underwear drawer. Growling, she did an easy locator spell and stalked out of the room, following the glow on her hands. It changed from red to yellow as she got closer and finally to green as she stopped outside a certain door.

The audacity of the man! She would be having words with him ovr this, preferably in a place where their teammates would be unable to rescue him... But for now, she would wait. With a smirk, she headed off towards the bridge. She could feel the magic apporching even though no one could se them yet and it was best to be ready. As the others arrived, she stood silently as Frieda handed out assigments and almost smirked as she wound up with exactly the man she needed to have a talk with.

The targeting stystem itself was easy enough for the mage to understand and the reloading was an easy task with magic to levitate the ammo. With a grin, she busied herself with the machine, making sure everything was good to go.

Shasa the Bard Pulls A Prank

Quote
With Kiska away on his reconnaissance mission, Shasa&;s worry made it very difficult for her to sleep. Oh, she knew he could take care of himself. She knew he was strong. She knew he had abilities that even he wasn&;t certain of. But that didn&;t stop her from being afraid for him. Finding it pointless to keep lying in bed, she slid off, tiptoeing out of the room she shared with Dace. Before he had left, she and Kiska had come up with a tiny plan of revenge against Alphonse. Kiska had been furious at the Warrior&;s accusation. She was Kiska&;s minion, he had raged. No minion of the Noblest of Serpents could be a traitor. it was simply impossible. He had been more than amenable to taking revenge, until Shasa had given him her sweetest smile. Kiska had drawn back a little at that. Even he knew that THAT expression on her face did not bode well for her target. He listened to her plan with trepidation, and after a token attempt to get her to abandon it, helped her plot it out.

So it was that early next morning, Shasa found herself sitting on the floor inside her and Dace&;s room, pressing her against the bedroom door. She grinned like a split watermelon as she heard Alphonse leave his bed, stretching before starting his morning exercises. The grin widened until it bore a distinct resemblance to a bear trap when she heard water splashing as he washed his face. The grin took on shark-like proportions as she heard the wardrobe door creak open. Fine, satiny fabric rustled, followed by an exclamation of puzzlement, and Shasa rolled over on her back, cackling with silent laughter. It was too bad she hadn&;t been able to watch, but hearing it was almost as good. She would probably get to watch Aicha beating him into a pulp, and that would definitely make up for missing the look on the brawny Warrior&;s face when he discovered an assortment of female underwear in his cupboard.

Morning also brought relief, as Kiska returned relatively unscathed except for a stink that made her reel backwards and almost fall over. The snake was, understandably, in an awful mood, though he cheered up when she informed him of her success against Alphonse. "Kiska has indeed taught the foolish fox well." said the snake smugly as she applied a soap encrusted scrubbing brush to his nose. "Who would have thought she was capable of such cunning? Kiska&;s guidance ensured her victory." "Yes yes it did." Shasa was in very much in the mood to agree with her companion&;s egotistic comment, even while scrubbing off honey badger musk from his nose.

Frieda the Alchemist Takes Charge as Captain

[quote]Frieda ran back to the Terrapin Glider from the Captain's Briefing with the other Wayward Squirrel Protectors and was pleased to see that the crew had assembled, the ship fueled and the engines online. “OK Rogues, here are your assignments.” She spoke in rapid-fire speech as she approached her crew who quickly gathered around her. “Dace, it's your ship, you're piloting, just remember, go real fast. Shasa, you’re navigating, you’ll have the radar, so call out those targets. Eren, you and I are on waist guns, I’ll take starboard gun and cover Dace’s side. Alphonse, you’re on nose gun, We’ll be targeting the Dragon Ship bridge. Aicha, you’re holed up with Alphonse on main gun targeting systems, and you can use our beam cutters. Teislyn, I need you in the cargo bay as tail gunner.” She waved everybody aboard the T.G. and resumed her rapid pace, “If there’s no questions, then let’s get the heck out of here. We have a world to save.”

As they entered the cargo bay, Frieda took Teislyn aside and spoke in low tones, “Thorson and I made up crates and crates of those explosives we used in the maze thinking that we were going to be under a ground assault. As it turned out, we will now have to use them on that Dragon Ship.” She took the Bard’s elbow, moved closer, and lowered her voice. “Each crate has the explosive yield of a blockbuster bomb. They'll blow up if a crate get loose and bangs into a bulkhead hard enough." She looked up into Teislyn's eyes and the other shoe dropped, "If things get rough, you're going to have to leave your gun and push those crates out the cargo hold's main hatch. So be careful, OK?”

She cleared her throat and sighed. “The thing is this, that tail gun doesn't have a portal, we’re going to have to open the cargo bay door out into empty space to give you a clear shot of anything. So suit up and get a safety harness on. We don’t want you getting loose out there.” She smiled at her friend, but Frieda's eyes betrayed her worry and fear. "Just wait for my signal to push those crates out and don't do anything crazy." Frieda knew in her heart that there was little chance of her crew surviving this mission, but she knew that Teislyn's job was an impossibility. Out of impulse she hugged and kissed the Bard's cheek, then stepped away.

Frieda quickly turned and headed for the stairwell to the upper levels and wiped a tear from her eye. As she reached the gunnery level, she turned, closed the hatch and sealed the airlock. Teislyn was essentially cut off from the rest of the ship except by radio. Frieda had a very bad feeling in the pit of her stomach as she turned and took her place at the starboard waist gunner’s console. Had she sealed Teislyn's death sentence for sure? She shook off her fear and guilt and made a vow to herself that she wouldn't think of such things, they just didn't have the luxury of time or circumstance to indulge in worry or self-pity.

She connected with the ship’s communication system and gave the order for all team members to check in to insure that everybody’s radio’s worked. At last the ship’s short checklist was complete and she called in. “Dace, You’ve got the ship, get us out of here and into formation with our squad. Keep alert folk, call out targets and good luck.” She powered up her weapon and checked it’s internal operation. It seemed to have a full charge she was satisfied with it’s status.

Her heart did a little leap as the engines roared to full power and she felt it’s movement. Dace was a fine pilot and soon the T.G. reached escape velocity. Frieda called in on the radio, “Weapons check! Everybody fire their weapons, watch out for friendlies.” She heard the roar of the forward gun, a mighty turret cannon from a de-commissioned space station’s defense system. How Dace and Pugsy managed to get her paws on it baffled Frieda. Each blast was similar in energy to a small nuclear explosion and it depleted a small trilithium engine core with every ten shots. It had a breech loading system similar to those used on the older 16 inch guns found on battleships on Terra, only instead of loading projectiles, the breech was loaded with a new power core. There were twenty cores in the breech loading mechanism...enough for 200 shots. She hoped it would be enough.

By contrast, the waist guns together shared one power core and it could last their weapons for a life time of battle. Still, Frieda felt a powerful kick in her paws as she pulled the trigger on the blaster. One blaster shot was powerful enough to knock a ship their size right out of space, or disrupt a gun turret on the Dragon Ship. “OK everybody, look lively. Dace, Take us in, we’re on point. The Chimeriads are on our Starboard, League of Whovians on Port, the Mischievous Misfits have our six.” She switched her radio over to the Fleet frequency, “Squirrel Protectors, Rogues here, Dace is taking us in. Let's get 'em!.”

The T.G. had been assigned to lead a task force to target the Bridge of the Dragon Ship with the hopes that if they blinded it first, it would buy some time for the other task forces assigned to disable the poison and communications arrays. Their task force was the largest and Frieda hoped that it was also draw the most attention away from the two smaller groups and give them more of a chance at success.

On the first run, at the Bridge, Frieda was astonished at the firepower the enemy ship had. There were gun placement sticking out everywhere, like spines on a cactus. She aimed her blaster at gun turrets as the T.G. approached them, but when she pulled the trigger, her shots overflew her targets every time and she missed. She felt the concussions of the forward gun as it pounded it’s target and she renewed her efforts.

Frustrated again with miss after miss, she just simply pointed her gun at the surface of the big ship in anger as it whizzed underneath them and strafed it at random. As the T.G. pulled up after it’s first run, Frieda heard Shasa compliment her, “Way to go Captain.” When she looked back down at the Dragon Ship, she saw a large plume of fire and debris spewing away from the enemy ship where a large blaster canon had been. She had a new targeting strategy now. “Eren, Don’t bother aiming at specific targets, we’re too fast and too close. Just get off as many shots as you can in rapid succession.”

On the Second run, Frieda could feel the T.G. accelerate, was Dace flying faster? She looked out her view screen and observed that the Chimeriad ship had closed up their formation a little more. She was going to have to be a little more careful with her shooting, she didn’t want to accidentally blast a friend out of the sky. She felt a bit nervous for some reason, but checked her feelings as their ship took a hit. “We’re hit! Damage report!” She was going to have to keep her feelings in check, they seemed to bring bad luck.

Alphonse responded, “Negative damage My Lady, it was a glancing blow, our shields held.” She relaxed a bit when she heard the forward gun fire off ten rounds in quick succession and she pointed her gun at the big ship where she had observed a long row of gun turrets and fired her weapon like a machine gun. She was gratified as she watched explosion after explosion erupt in the wake of her destructive path. Alphonse’s voice came back over the ship’s comm. “Their shields are failing, we’ll get them on the next round. Let’s go Dace, bring us around again.” Well, that was some good news at least.

Frieda was full of anxious anticipation, her strategy of keeping her feelings in check hadn't taken into account that she was highly empathic and she wore her own feelings out her sleeve. The cause of her worry was that Dace had chosen a different angle for the third pass at the Bridge and she didn’t recognize the terrain of the large ship’s outer surface. She observed that several of it's decks were engulfed in raging fires, but she doubted that any serious damage had been done to the functionality of the Dragon Ship. The visible damage was most likely ‘merely flesh wounds' and that ship probably had redundant systems all over the place.

As the T.G. lined up for the third pass, Frieda could now see the massive bridge tower and she aimed her weapon at it They had to give their enemy everythin

Mauve and his bandmates, the Lavenders, are grumbling among themselves as they go to get supplies for those remaining behind. They are pretty much bummed to be grounded. As they make their last trip back to the Gearloose Goose, they see several of the Protectors staring listlessly at the ground.

Mauve stops to ask about it. "What's up? You guys look way mournful."

"We can't fly!" They all chorus back at him. "We don't know the first things about aircraft and all Winton will say is that we knew this when we were designing vehicles. We're stuck with THESE."

The band looks at the neat little row of small combat ships while the dejected group goes back to moaning and weeping.

"Hey, Ma!" yells Mauve. "Didn't you say the most important thing was to provide everything we could for the Protectors?"

"Yes!!" Ms. Miranda shouts back in her most authoritative voice. "Make it happen for them, whatever it is! That's an order, son, and it goes for your pals, too."

The entire band lights up. It's all they can do not to cheer out loud. The guys and gals grab the hands of the closest mopers and motion for the others to follow. Everyone proceeds at a dead run to a remote hangar on the "back forty."

As the large metal doors are pulled back, the "no-fly" Protectors see a line of medium size refurbished spacecraft. Each band member proudly points out his or her "baby."

"All we have to do is rig up some weaponry. We gotta be able to make something work. Come on, let's do it! We'll get these babies in the air!"

(OOC: Okay, miserable and dejected earthbound ones. You are now in the air with a bunch of teenage rockers. Pick your own Lavender and hop aboard. Assume these flyboys and flygirls will get you where you need to be with aerial "hotdoggin' skillz." It's a wild ride, but you can now do what you gotta do. Deal with Ms. Miranda later. :D)

PS: This is only for those wailing in dismay and cursing themselves for not carefully reading the earlier chapter. If you are already in the air, keep on keeping on!)

We should choose 1 of the blanks _________________________ to assist the battle in our tie-fighters.

Enemy Ships:

*Dragon Ship: Huge Mother Ship, Battle Cruiser, can hold hundreds of small fighters, heavy shielding, very heavy armament, cannons, turrets, blasters, torpedoes, *Mid-sized Reever Destroyers: Slightly larger then a Firefly-class ship. Heavily armed, blasters, torpedoes, medium shielding, decorated with bones and blood, *Fighters : Small single-seat Tie-Fighter class craft, light armament, blasters, light shielding, like flies that will kick your backsides.

Our Ships: *Firefly Class Ships : Medium sized, fast, some very heavily armed for a ship it’s size, medium shielding. Looks Totally Awesome', Can Kick Serious Unseelie Bottom! *Fighters : Small single-seat Tie-Fighter class craft, light armament, blasters, light shielding, Like Hummingbirds On Crack....With Blasters!

Outline Narrative:

 1. The initial attack of Phase One will focus on three primary target objectives:

a. The Poison Array. This will be dealt with by Reavers in their Firefly class ship. The Raider's Folly team and the _________________ team will assist in their Tie-Fighter class ships. They may take out other secondary targets as they wish.

b. The Main Communications Array, this will disrupt their ability to coordinate attacks. This will be led by The Fallen Angels team in their Firefly class ship. The _________________________ team and the ________________ team will assist with defense in their Tie-Fighter class ships. They may take out other secondary targets as they wish.

c. The Bridge. This will be targeted by the remaining Firefly Class teams and the remaining Tie-Fighter class teams for this phase..

 1. The Dragon Ship unleashes hundreds of fighters upon us and close combat ensues. It is a free-for all dogfight. This Phase Two attack objective is to to destroy all the enemy’s small fighters. All ships are engaged from all teams. The battle is intense and there are many close calls.

 2. The Phase Three objective has become to target the engines and control centers of the Dragon Ship in an attempt to completely destroy it. Strafing runs, tropedos, cutting beams, blasters, magic and alchemy come into play here. The target objectives are:

a. The Engines. This will be dealt with by _______________ , Fallen Angels and The Stone Cold Rogues in their Firefly class ship. The _________________, _________________, and _________________ will assist with defense in their Tie-Fighter class ships. They may take out other secondary targets as they wish.

b. The Control Systems Centers, this will knock out radar, computers, targeting systems and life support. This will be dealt with by _______________ , _____________ and ________________ in their Firefly class ship. The _________________________ and the ________________ will assist with defense in their Tie-Fighter class ships. They may take out other secondary targets as they wish.

c. The Mid-Sized Reever Destroyers. These will be targeted by the remaining Firefly Class ships and the remaining Tie-Fighter class ships. This is essential in protecting the others as they complete their task. Once the Dragon Ship is Destroyed, all craft regroup to clean up any remaining Reever-Class and Fighter stragglers.

If you want to volunteer for a specific target, please ping me to the target you want to attack and I will fill in the blank. If you don't select a specific target, then you attack secondary targets ( Atrueheart listed a bunch of them ).

In closing: There are three main phases to this outline: 1. attack dragon ship, knock it out. 2. Destroy the 100's of small fighters, 3. Destroy the Dragon ship AND the medium-sized Reever ships. 4. celebrate victory with cookies... (oh, wait...that's four phases. )

The Stone Cold Rogues In the Final Battle Part Two

Frieda

Quote

Somebody was shouting “Break Break!” over the Fleet&;s communication system. It was the signal that warned every team to break formation, small enemy fighters from had been spotted emerging from the launch bays at the back side of the Dragon Ship. The anonymous voice on the radio sounded panicked. “Squirrels! There’s hundreds of ‘em! “

The announcement took Frieda by surprise, why hadn’t she remembered to alert the others that this was a real probability? The scouting report had even mentioned it as a real threat. She gasped for air and tried to pull herself together. “Dace, can we outrun those things? I know we can’t outmaneuver them, we’re too big.” Frieda felt a jolt as there ship took fire from two of the enemy fighters that had come up suddenly on their starboard. “That was too close! Gunners, take them out! We’re sitting ducks unless we can get some distance!” She took aim at the lead fighter and fired off a burst of her blasters, but missed as the enemy swooped under the T.G. She felt panic rise up in her chest, and she could feel the the sudden rise in her heart rate up in her throat.

She heard the engines suddenly whine at a higher pitch as the ship picked up speed. She looked out her portal and could see the battle all around the Dragon Ship. She soon realized that the twinkling stars she had observed were blaster shots and ships exploding. She hoped that none of those explosions were her friends.

Frieda watched the stars wheel around as the T.G. did a 180 turn for a return run and saw the Dragon Ship come back into view as the T.G. prepared to rejoin the battle. The engines whined even louder, Dace was giving the ship all the speed she could muster as they and lined up to plow through the bulk of all those small fighters. She found some relief to feel the thump thump of the forward cannon firing in rapid succession, it could get off ten devastating shots before it had to reload a new core. She knew those shots had hit targets because their ship was quickly peppered by an ever-increasing density of glowing debris.

The cockpit crew started calling out targets and Frieda adjusted the targeting system on her blaster. Two bogeys on the starboard, that was her. She called out over the comm, “Visual confirmation on bogeys, I have them in my sights.” She waited only a fraction of a second for the fighters to get a bit closer before she pulled the trigger. She missed the first one, but she scored a hit on the second one, it appeared to have hit the engine. She made another adjustment to her targeting system and then looked out her portal, She sensed her vision narrowing, her near panic turning to anger.

“Two more veering off to starboard, Frieda,” the radio crackled and Frieda gripped the handles on her weapon, “They’ll be in view in a second.” She looked forward and caught a glint of metal in the sun. She lined them up in her targeting screen, pulled the trigger and held it down. She was quite satisfied when there were two explosions where two fighters had been. “Great shooting Lady Frieda.” came Alphonse’s voice.” Frieda barely heard it for the blood pounding in her ears. She was breathing in great gasps as she fired of another round of shots at another pair of fighters, killing both of them. She bared her teeth and cursed between gasps. "Die you bastards."

There was no time to think, feel or celebrate each victory of the battle. There were so many enemies and they just kept coming, it seemed endless. And it was mindless and impersonal, like playing a sick video game-- ‘bang bang kapow—next round,’ but there was no way to tell if you were winning. The T.G. swooped, dived and mowed through hundreds of targets and her desperate crew fired their weapons until they were glowing hot, their intercoolers struggling to keep the weapons temperatures within operating limits. Still the enemy kept coming.

The passage of time seized up, everybody was in a battle haze, Frieda was in the throws of the Blood-lust, a battle condition specific to her kind which gave her super-powered killing instincts. Her tail has bushed out to twice it’s normal size, her eyes turned blood red, her teeth were bared and slavering and all her pain receptors had shut down. She was a berserk killing machine and her shooting accuracy had sored to to nearly 100%. Finally somebody from her crew called over the comm and announced that all fighters had been destroyed and Frieda struggled to calm down. She needed fresh air.

The Fleet comm erupted with crackles and then a familiar voice. “Squirrel Protectors, You are not going to believe this—that Dragon ship is back online, It stopped drifting and it’s coming around...all it’s weapons are powering up, it can still destroy BorderTown and the Seelie Kingdom. We gotta take it out.”

Frieda needed fresh air badly. "Dace!

Alphonse

Quote
Alphonse&;s mind raced as he tried to work out which targets to strike. The ships were tiny and fast and there were so many. Too many... And the nose gun, while exceedingly powerful, was also slow to manoeuvre- not for hitting fast moving targets. It was with relief that he heard Lady Frieda&;s command to put some distance between the Glider and the fighters. Taking a step back from the gun, he began to consider a strategy that could help take out the flyers. Perhaps he could simply fire towards the largest clusters? It was the most viable option, if only because it would prevent them from grouping together and mounting a mass attack. He staggered slightly as the Glider wheeled around and immediately returned his attention to the gun. It had been reloaded and was ready to go.

The next few moments were something of a blur for Alphonse. The small fighters whirled around them, all bright lights and motion. Shasa, in a rapid fire monotone, was calling out a series of targets which he strove to keep in mind, trying to gauge which ones he should take out first. The fox seemed to catch on to his strategy and quickly directed him towards any groups she saw being formed. It quickly took on a routine- fire a fusillade of blasts, reload, aim and repeat. The tiny fighters exploded all around the Glider, bombarding it with shards of fiery debris.

Aicha

Quote
A lot of smaller ships suddenly appeared and the mage frowned as her screen became suddenly full of rapidly moving little dots. Casting a glance over, she could see the warrior getting flustered. She reloaded the gun with a sigh and treated her companion to a smack on the head to try and get him to focus. It seemed to work as he soon returnd to firing.

Check gauge, reload, count targets, reload, check gauge again, reload. It was getting monotonous and Shasa&;s voice wasn&;t helping much. Still, the number of targets on the screen was vastly decreasing - they were making progress.

Teislyn

Quote
She felt like a ball bouncing off the walls, everything that was happening outside was a hundred times worse back in the cargo area. Thankfully everything was held down, so she didn’t have to worry about crates running into her. That would be the last thing everyone needed. Teislyn gripped onto the gun chair and felt the shock of an explosion outside, it rattled her whole body and her insides wanted to come back up again. Swallowing a few times, she looked out the window and saw that the bridge was out, she silently cheered. “Maybe it will end soon”, she thought and just as she relaxed a bit, the news came over the intercom about smaller ships coming from the mother ship. She looked outside again and gasped. Hundreds, upon hundreds of ships were spewing from the bigger one heading towards the Protectors. She looked at the gun and prayed that she could figure it out, she hated guns with a passion. Punching a button, the gun loaded and was ready to shoot, she turned it towards a batch of ships to the left and fired. The first round miss, but it got their attention. She punched the button again and fired. It hit a wing of one of the ship and sent it flying into the one beside it taking them both out. “Load, aim, fire, repeat,” her mind went through the steps over and over again. She ignored the rest of the noise and concentrated on the enemy ships.

Dace

Quote
Dace gripped the flight controller and looked over at Kiska, whom she could barely believe was now her Navigator. He flicked his tongue at her.

"Kiska is the greatest of all guides. He has iron in his nose. He shall find a way to bring honour to you, since Kiska already has so much." (Tell me if that was ok??)

Dace just nodded and maneuvered the ship away from a swarm of the smaller vessels. She heard Frieda ask if they were capable of outrunning the little ships and had an idea. She pressed hard on the intake, the engines whining, the ship jumping forward like a jackrabbit. Once they had cleared the melee she turned and headed back, this time with a clear trajectory.

"I hope you&;re all aiming in the right direction, because I&;m taking us right back into the thick of things!" As she slammed the ship forward she wondered where Shasa had gone.

Eren

Quote
It wasn’t long after the Bridge was destroyed that it was announced that hundreds of smaller enemy craft had been launched against them and he clinched his jaw. What next? Soon they were swarmed by enemy craft and friendly craft in a dog-fight of madness. Shasa called out targets as did the others as their ship took hits from the relentless enemy. He did his best to inform the others of targets as he was able and they all seemed to be working well together, the number of enemy fighters steadily decreased as time went on.

Shasa Phase 2:

Shasa sighed with relief as Dace moved the Glider away from the fighters. Too many targets. Now she had the time to sort out which ones they could strike at. Clearing her throat, she waited as they drew close enough to the ships before reeling off the targets as fast as she could. 'No stuttering, no wobbling, that one's near Frieda's range, Alphonse's got that one, Eren will take that one, Eren again, either Frieda or Alphonse can hit that...' the next few moments took up all her attention, but the number of targets refused to diminish, even with the full spate of guns firing. The sight reminded her of a wasps swarming around their hive, attacking whoever disturbed their nest. 'Great', she thought. 'The Nightmare Dragon and its Wasps.' A furious serious of explosions took out a number of the 'Wasps', which were promptly replaced by more from the mother ship. Exchanging a quick glance with Kiska, Shasa made up her mind and got up, lightly touching Dace's shoulder (and hoping she noticed) before heading for the Gunner's Bay.

((Kiska))

The Lord of Serpents took his fox minion's place, narrowing his eyes at the sight of the targets. It was nothing to him, of course. If Kiska could but have the Dragon Ship in his coils, he would crumple the patchwork excuse for a vessel into dust, and chew up the fighters like so many insects. But he would have to humour the mortals. For now. Noticing Dace ooking rather uncertainly at him, Kiska hastened to reassure the Vagabond. "Kiska is the greatest of all guides. He has iron in his nose. He shall find a way to bring honour to you, since Kiska already has so much." He gave her the co ordinates she needed and suppressed a yawn. A job unworthy of his skills, but he would do his duty.

((Shasa))

The fox nosed into the Gunner's Bay and stood just behind Alphonse, where she had a good vantage point of the outside. She gulped as she realised it was even more horrible than she had thought it would be. Even the small fighters were twisted, ugly, evil looking things. And they were fast, zipping around and harassing the larger ships and dodging each other and enemy fire with frightening ease. They needed a distraction. Shasa closed her eyes, envisioning an enemy ship in her mind. It needed to fool the Unseelie, but be unique enough that she would not lose track of it. Once she was certain she had the image she needed, she opened her eyes and looked at the small ship hovering outside. Nodding, she let it loose into the melee.

It was probably the hardest work Shasa had ever put into an illusion. She needed to keep a constant watch on the enemy ships, aiming her ship at them whenever the opportunity came. She needed to keep dodging fire, both enemy and her own side's. And she quickly realised needed her ship to move like one and not like a glorified yoyo. Noticing Alphonse's gaze on her, she tweaked an eyebrow at him. Was this enough to convince him that she was on their side? And how was he still unscathed, anyway? She had smelled the anger rising of Aicha, and had been fairly sure that Alphonse would be in some dire straits by this point. Mentally shrugging, she left it be for now and let her ship continue its high stakes dodgeball game.

A slight feeling of heaviness at the back of her skull warned her that she was reaching her limit. Gritting her teeth, she concentrated even harder, ignoring the gradually appearing headache to keep up the illusions. Her ship's movements became sketchier, and all too soon, she made a mistake she couldn't turn back from. The ship tackled one of the Unseelie fighters, but went right through it instead of veering away at the last minute. She snarled under her breath. No! They would see it now, if they hadn't already. The Unseelie weren't stupid. They knew about illusions and her ship had revealed itself as one. A few perfunctory attempts confirmed it, and with a sigh, Shasa let the ship fade away. Muttering an apology, she plodded off, hoping the headache wouldn't hamper her vision.

Sliding back into the Navigator's post, she focused on the screen, and started as the message came through. “Squirrel Protectors, You are not going to believe this—that Dragon ship is back online, It stopped drifting and it’s coming around...all its weapons are powering up, it can still destroy BorderTown and the Seelie Kingdom. We gotta take it out.” Groaning, she searched the radar for the Nightmare Dragon, and hissed at the sight. Had they not damaged it at all?

[spoiler=Stone Cold Rogues In The Final Battle Part Three]

Frieda

Quote
The Dragon Ship is back online? You mean it&;s flying again Impossible, the bridge was blown to smithereens. But then again a ship that big had to have redundant systems. It probably had two or seven or fifty-seven bridges. All Frieda knew was that the Captains had devised a contingency plan for just such a development; make every attempt to totally destroy the Dragon Ship. She cued the Fleet comm, “Rogues here, We’ll regroup with our squad to the assigned target, over.” She called out over the ships comm, “Dace, we need to rally with the rest of our squad. We’ve been assigned to target the engines of that blasted big ship.” She took a breath and wiped her brow, “Shasa, we’re to approach from the rear, Atrueheart from the Fallen Angels, Cutie and Haneway from the League of Whovians report that there are several gun turrets that were blown up during the run on the Bridge which leaves the central engine vulnerable to attack. That will be our course. Alphonse, they also report that their shields are operation, but not at full capacity. Do you think we&;ll be able to kill that engine in one pass?”

Frieda was beginning to tire of the stress of the battle and realized she was probably dehydrated. She took a sip of her canteen and called back to her crew on the comm. “Shasa, Cutie was going to broadcast coordinates to our rally point. Alphonse and Aicha, how many of those power cores do you have left? Is there any way to overload one of them and eject it ? Teislyn, are you ready to dump those crates?” she swallowed hard when she said Teislyn’s name. “I suggest we make one pass first, and if we don’t succeed in knocking out that engine on the first pass, then how about we try to drop a trilithium core and all those crates on it during the second pass?” Frieda felt desperate, What kind of explosion would all those crate bombs make? Would they be able to get out of there in time before they blew?

The Fleet comm crackled again, “Defenders! Defenders, those nasty looking ships are powering up and moving into intercept us.” there was more static and the voice returned, “Engine Team, Control Systems Team, stay on target. We’ll try to keep those buggers off your backs. Good luck Defenders!” The comm cackled then went dead. Frieda wiped her brow and thought, what next?

She looked out her portal and could see fighters from the other teams including The Fellowship, The Nightowls, and Bohemian Travelers; should she warn them about their crate bombs? What if the Unseelie were monitoring their radio frequencies? Would they be able to defend against what they proposed to do? She thought better of alerting the other teams until immediately after their weapons had been deployed.

It didn’t take but a few moments to rally with the other ships in their task force, charge their weapons, select their targets and make their final approach. Frieda could sense the emotions of her team, they were all weary and becoming frustrated at having to try to disable the Dragon Ship again. Frieda looked out at the larger ships of her squad and noticed that their formation wasn’t very tight. The smaller fighters appeared to be straggling a bit and Frieda was about to say something over the Fleet comm when there was a jarring blast just outside her portal. “That was too close!” came the voices of several of her shipmates at once. “The scouting reports must have been wrong, there’s more blaster towers and turrets on the back side then on the front!” The report was punctuated by three more explosions just outside their ship that came from the enemy.

A moment later, she felt the thump thump of the T.G.’s big gun and she pointed her gun at the deck of the Dragon ship and held down the trigger. Again came eruptions of explosions from below as her weapon punched large holes in the outer hull plating. “The engines are well shielded, we’re going to have to make a second run.” Was the report from the Fleet comm. Frieda cued her comm mic, “You hear that Rogues, We’re circling back around for a second run. Teislyn, wait for my cue.”

The T.G. wheeled around to make a return run and at the apex of their turn, she came into targeting range of a lone Unseelie fighter who had parked in space in the cloud of debris from another ship. She fired at the T.G. but was blown out of the heavens by another ship in her squad. Frieda watched in horror as a large piece of the Unseelie craft hurtled directly at her and lodged into her portal, instantly causing her weapon bay to decompress. She slammed her paw on the hatch button and sealed off her compartment so that the rest of the ship wouldn’t decompress. She only had a few seconds before the gasses in her body began to boil away and she fought desperately to find her helmet.

She was beginning to get light headed as the oxygen flow to her brain was impeded by the microscopic bubbles of nitrogen and oxygen that began to form in her veins and arteries, there was no way her heart was designed to pump gaseous bubbles. She felt the thump thump of the forward guns and that was her signal to call Teislyn to release the bomb crates, but with no air in her compartment, she wouldn’t be able to speak. It was only a matter of seconds now and she would be dead, she began to suffer from tunnel vision as her systems consumed the rest of the available oxygen in her body. She felt her chest expanding, it would rupture soon as her lungs exploded, and still, the bombs wouldn’t fall because she failed to give the signal. The last thing Frieda remembered before she completely blacked out was her silent scream.

Dace

Quote
Dace held out her pinkie and gave Kiska a tail bump. "Let&;s get these bastards you glorious little king among snakes." She regrouped with the remaining captains and looked at the foreboding Dragon ship. "We&;re going to make a pass at the guns, and anything not on fire or falling from the sky. Guys, I know we&;re tired and hurting, but I know we can do it. We&;re so close!" Dace swooped past the Whovians and gave their pilot a wave.

As she watched the battle continue to unfold and heard the thundering of the guns, her mind drifted a little to the first night she met her fellow Rogues and all of the trials they&;d faced. She was sure that nothing they were facing now could stop them, even when they came through this she had a feeling more than a few of them would stay friends, or at least she hoped they would. She shook her head and pulled left, narrowly avoiding shrapnel, only to have to immediately pull back and watch in horror as a large chunk of debris tore off one of the back bays of the ship.

She heard several people bellowing over comms at the same time and and her heart constricted "No, not Frieda." She bit her lip and closed out the sounds. She could do nothing to help. She had guide the ship and her team mates to safety.

Alphonse

Quote
A few choice curses made the Warrior feel somewhat better, and at Lady Frieda&;s command, he managed a quick calculation, checked their resources and calmly replied. "I believe we can, my Lady. We all need to concentrate, but at our best, we should certainly be able to do it." Alphonse&;s voice held more confidence than he felt. At their best. But none of them were. Even he was feeling the effects of continuous battling, and the fever had taken its toll on him as well. He did not even want to begin to guess at the condition of the others. Only the Mage seemed to be tireless, continuing with no signs of flagging at all. Lost in thought, he almost missed Lady Frieda&;s second question. "Alphonse and Aicha, how many of those power cores do you have left? Is there any way to overload one of them and eject it?" Starting he looked up. "What?" He counted the number of cores he had left and checked the gun. "Well, yes. It should work, but..." even as he spoke he realised there were no buts. That damned Dragon Ship had to go because if it didn&;t, it would hardly matter that the overloaded core hadn&;t blown them to smithereens. The Unseelie would have a far nastier death in store for them.

"But what?" Shasa&;s voice came through the radio, her tone acidic, and he realised he hadn&;t answered Lady Frieda. "Desperate times, desperate measures." the fox continued. Irritated, Alphonse snapped back, "And how desperate are you, you little traitor?! You&;ll die the same death as we do if things go wrong, you know. Or are you that loyal to your masters?" he stopped short as soon as the words left his mouth, aware that he had gone too far. There was brief, horrible silence before Shasa spoke, her tone cold. "At least I know who my master is. You clearly have no clue." Stymied by what was obviously a non sequitur, Alphonse didn&;t bother to reply, instead focusing on training the nose gun on the rapidly approaching Dragon Ship.

Proving that things could always get worse, the first pass quickly unearthed the fact that they hadn&;t managed to destroy all the Unseelie ship&;s weapons. A blast struck just outside Lady Frieda&;s portal, and he turned around in concern, staggering as three more blasts struck their ship. Leaping back to the gun, he fired a series of shots at the Dragon Ship, aiming for the engine. But even bolstered by fire from the other gunners, the engine proved to be too well shielded to get through on the first run. The Glider wheeled away, preparing for the next pass. And that was when an even greater disaster struck.

Alphonse was not quite certain what had happened. A ship exploded some distance away, and almost immediately alarms sounded throughout the ship, the lights turning an eerie red. "We&;ve been breeched!" Shasa&;s cry of alarm was hardly necessary. Alphonse ran out of the gunner&;s bay, heading for the pilot&;s cabin. "Where?" he shouted, before racing across the ship to peer down the starboard side. The sight sent a chill down his spine. &;It just had to be there...&; "Lady Frieda!" he yelled, racing for the weapon&;s bay. Coming up short against the sealed compartment, he slammed against the door. "My Lady, little One, please, open the door! Answer me!"

Teislyn

Quote
She snapped back into focus when Frieda’s voice came over the intercom “Teislyn, are you ready to dump those crates?” Teislyn tried to speak and it only came out in a crackle. She swallowed and spoke again as steady as she could, “I’m as ready as I’ll ever be Frieda, here’s hoping it all goes well.” She got up and tried to walk over to the crates, but her legs felt like lead weighing her down. When she got to them she checked herself over again to make sure every piece of harness was fastened and her suit on properly. She pulled on the helmet, so when she opened the doors, she’d be able to breathe normally. She tried to think of something calming to get her hear rate down, she was scared out of her wits about this next part. Teislyn’s mind settled on Veta, sitting in the meadow strumming the lyre, with Lini prancing around chasing after butteflies. She smiled at this and was lost in thought, when she felt the ship take a sharp turn. Sliding into the wall, Teislyn groaned while trying to get back onto her feet, the last thing they needed was an unconscious bard. Frieda’s voice came over the intercom saying they’d be coming around for a second pass and to be ready for her cue. She pulled one of the crates away from the others and waited.

She felt a huge thud and the whole ship shook, she hung onto the crate for support and wondered what happened. Trying to run to the intercom, she pushed the button and yelled “What happened, someone tell me what is going on? Frieda what is happening? I need to know when to drop these crates. Someone answer me!”

Aicha

Quote
She felt the spell before the immediate effects became visable. She had to admit, it was a nifty little trick. And it was working quite well, luring enemy ships in placement for the warrior to easily take out. As she reloaded the gun again, she turned her attention to their new arrival. Shasa&;s demenor was calm on the surface but underneath was something else...excitment? No, it was more like...anticipation...

A thought occured to the mage as she had to reload again. Putting it out of mind for now, she focused back on her screen - she&;d deal with her suspicions later.

The warrior took off, leaving the gun unmanned. Aicha growled; well this was wonderful! What was she supposed to do now? Still, maybe Frieda had had an idea with overloading the cores... Perhaps though, the idea needed some &;amping up&;.

Grinning evilly, she began gathering up the remaining cores. Four cores left; forty shots worth of ammo. It wasn&;t much, but maybe together, it could cause a bang. Making a quick circle, Aicha crafted a big time bubble. Normally time was a hard thing to manage, but stopping it on a small confined area was a spell all proper mages could do - it was a requirement for graduation, after all. Carefully the mage began to set the cores above the highest setting. As each began to overload they started glowing a vibrant red - only then would Aicha place the core into the &;time bubble&;. Once the four cores were all inside, the mage bound them together with magic and carefully picked up the bubble.

Spinning around, she gently extended the bomb. "I&;ll explode on impact, no sooner. Be careful with it - I don&;t have any more cores to make more."

Eren

Quote
He felt no sense of elation as the word came over his comm that all the fighters had been eliminated and no surprise that the Dragon ship and the other larger Unseelie death ships had broken formation to attack. Frieda announced over the comm that they were now going to try to take out the big ships engines? Seriously? That sounded like a fly attempting to kill an eagle. Still, he was resolved to do his part and hopefully they would come out of it alive.

They had made a first pass at the engine of the Dragon Ship and Eren was encouraged by the report that the shielding around the engines was failing. The weasel-girl had told the Bard to ready the bombs in the cargo bay and had asked the Mage and Warrior if there was some way to drop an engine core on the enemy ship. He had no idea that there were bombs on the ship, but it seemed reasonably, Frieda was an alchemist. He just wished he had known about bombs.

There was a sudden shuddering of the craft, they had taken a hit, but it wasn’t blaster fire, he could tell that they had hit something in space. He felt a sudden rush of air and turned to observe Frieda’s compartment door slam shut sealing her off from the rest of the ship. A klaxon sounded and all the lights went red, a signal that there had been a breech in the hull and for him to put on his helmet. He grabbed it, pulled it over his head and clicked it into place. The suit immediately compressed and he breathed in deeply.

He heard Teislyn’s frantic requests in his earpiece and he switched his comm link to VOX, “Lady Frieda is down. Drop bombs. I check on her.” was all he said.

He entered the passageway and sealed off his turret then sealed off the entire deck just as the Warrior approached the turret doors. He heard him pounding and calling Frieda’s name, but ignored him. He opened Frieda’s furred and found her unconscious on the floor, her helmet just out of reach. He quickly placed it on her head and as he clicked it into place, the suit immediately compressed. He held her body in his arms and looked into her faceplate. Her face seemed somewhat swollen and pale, and his emotions started to surface. "Святая корова , Маленький пушистый существо , взять большой вдох!” (Holy cow, little creature, take a deep breath!)

Teislyn [quote]It seemed like an eternity before someone replied and she heard Eren's voice on the other side. "Lady Frieda is down. Drop bombs. I check on her." and the comm clicked off. "Wait...what?", she tried to reply back but the comm was silent on the other end. Freida was down? She'd have to find out what happened

Dancers, Dragons, and Destiny Kaiidth anxiously looked to see if the companions had returned. After asking a few people who didn't seem to know, she sighed and headed back to the room to get undressed for bed. After all of the changing she’d done, she was bone tired, but she’d never spent a night without Howie since finding him as a pup. Crawling under the covers Kaiidth tried to sleep. As the night dragged on, Kaiidth tossed and turned. Her blankets and pillows slowly ended up on the floor through the night.

As the sun started to rise, Howie and the other companions returned. Howie made a beeline for Kaiidth’s room and crawled into bed with her. Kaiidth smiled, sleeping a bit longer before getting up. She got dressed and headed down for breakfast. She walked into the dining room as the others are talking. As she was about to take a bite the group is informed that Pale Lightning had escaped and that attack was imminent.

Lara had slept like a log, being exhausted from her adventures, only to be gutted by the bad news over breakfast that Pale Lightning and Rosemary had managed to escape. Now she awaited the return of Albert, he was a tough little guy to be sure, and she knew he will have done his best to help them. She couldn’t help but slap a big grin on her face when she saw his roly poly body amongst his new companions trotting back along the road towards them. Even Nightshade had a look of relief on his face, whether from the sight of the animals, or in the hopes of important and useful news, but she didn’t wish to speculate.

Lara stood with her friends listening to Termina explain how the 3 key slots were guarded. Ayla was particularly interested with the formation of the color guards, and Lara knew she’d have it solved in a trice. Suddenly Lara was startled to hear a cry from the crowd of people, and looked around her at the faces of her friends, some showed fear, others astonishment, yet more looked like they had murder in their hearts. Lara slowly turned and stood in fear and awe of the massive and terrible ship in the distance, leading a fleet of smaller evil looking fighters. She was stunned into silence at the realisation of what was about to befall them all if they didn’t do something AND RIGHT NOW!

Nightshade’s first instinct was to go and cut the snake's head so to speak by targeting the main battle ship. A quick discussion with the Team however proved that their limited resources and lack of flyers would make that a suicide mission. Thankfully (or regretfully...) the Mauve and the Lavenders band stepped in to help them with their fight and pilot the fighters they have...because when you think of a fight for your life against a full on army of killers you think of a pretty boy and girl band called something cute like lavender...Nightshade grunted at the thought, those fighters were going to be their tombs...

This time, Phineas was sure he was going to die. It was slightly different from all the other premonitions of his death, in that he felt strangely calm about it. He patted Katja on the head. "Now you be a good cat, and mind your manners, miss," he said to her gently. With feline wisdom, Katja actually deigned to nuzzle his hand, emitting a soft, imploring mrowl.

"No, I can't just stay here. I can't leave the others to go to certain doom without joining in, it would not be right." Katja mrowled again, this time with a stiff tone to it. "What do you mean why?" Phineas asked, exasperated. "It just wouldn't be right, ok? Now stay here, and help out all you can."

The Bard's eye then fell lingeringly on his practice lyre, all that was left to him of his musical career since he had traded his Lute to the courier. He shook his head, surprised at himself. Imagine, he, Phineas Uthar Killigan the thirty-second, sacrificing his lute for the good of the cause. Who would have ever thought he would be involved with any cause at all? His fingers ran over the little lyre fondly, a rueful smile twisting his lips. He left it there at the inn with a little note that said "Free to a good home" and meandered out to join his team. He did not see Katja curl about it and drop her chin on her paws in resigned patience.

Ayla sat quietly on the sidelines of the bustling teams, and tried to come to grips with the situation. It seemed like so long ago that she’d been on her own, wandering the forest, only making contact with civilization when it became necessary. Now she had people around her who cared for her, and for whom she cared. What an odd feeling! Even stranger was the worry that they were putting themselves in danger. Still, the Unseelie must be stopped. The alternative was too horrible to consider.

Ace poked his head out of her bag and nudged her arm, hoping for a belly scratch. Chuckling, Ayla brought him onto her lap. “You always seem to know just the right time to interrupt my train of thought. Perhaps not your best quality, but certainly one of the more useful.” Ace gave the hedgehog equivalent of a puzzled expression, and Ayla laughed again, then sighed. “Well, my lad, I’d say it’s time we got moving.” Tucking him securely back into her bag, she began to develop and discard battle strategies as she headed to the back forty.

It takes two to tango As the Lavenders went about prepping their ships for battle, Ayla gathered her team around her. “This will be the greatest test we’ve faced, or are likely to face ever again,” she said. “The Unseelie are sure to have a few ugly tricks up their sleeves, so let’s make sure we do too!” Addressing each member individually, she reminded them of their strengths and encouraged them to focus on one target at a time. “Don’t let the big picture overwhelm you. We can do this!” With that, she gave each a hug, (yes, even Nightshade, the resulting scar would fade with time), and sent them off to help their pilots.

Phineas went to his assigned vessel and nodded to the spiky haired man. The youthful pilot, whose name was not Bob, but Phineas would blissfully name him that in his head anyway, pointed out the gun assembly, and they were off. It is very certain that if, somehow, he should miraculously not die, he would eventually meet a pilot whose name was actually Bob, but today was not that day.

"Do you think you can fire this thing?" Bob asked politely, as he set his controls.

"I used to bulls-eye swamp rats with my sling as a lad, this won't be much different."

A beautiful woman with purple hair approached him. "Hello, I'm Orchid from the band Mauve and the Lavenders." she beamed a smile so bright it took all of his composure not to flinch.

"You are Nightshade I take it? I shall be your pilot; would you come with me please?" Orchid gestured for him to follow her to where the flyers stood. Nightshade was deeply concerned now... this woman was groomed within an inch of her life! Not a thread or hair out of place and she was the PILOT! He silently followed her to their flyer... he had to get another pilot and from the looks of her another flyer as well... if it turned out to be a pink one.... Lucifer help her if it was!

Their flyer was a slick black tie fighter spaceship, the outer rims looked like they had a neon blue light decorating them but on closer inspection they appeared to be magical runes for enhanced performance.

Orchid gave him a minute to take it all in before speaking "The fighter is a 697 type HE model custom fitted with an 800-F engine, 6-T shield, Enhancement Runes class 3 and 9 for speed and accuracy. I would like to recommend the use of a type B/2 cannon for power and a type G-11 laser shooter for fast shots."

Nightshade smiled at her, so she wasn't just a pretty face after all. "Your skill level and average speed?"

Orchid straightened before answering, a tell-tale of a military background "Skill level C4 and average speed of 5.2 light years." he noticed she held back before barking the customary SIR! She was probably just getting used to civilian life before all of this. Well this he can work with.

"Adjust the flyer to the weight of an [item2=Espergile Orbital Cannon] we'll only use it for bigger prey due to the long calibration time, for swifter shots we'll be using the lighter and faster [item2=Plasma Cannon Fourth Edition], I'll get them both fitted myself."

Orchid blinked "wasn't that edition banned recently as it was found to disintegrate the opposing spacecrafts?"

Nightshade "Yes, and? You have a problem with that?"

Orchid smiled slyly, not the show stopping smile she flashed before but one rather...wicked. "No sir, I'll get right on it, sir!"

It took him less than 10 minutes to install both weapons. Orchid re-calibrated the flyer to balance the new additions, and then off they went.

“Hey you! The one with her chin on her chest!”

Lara realises this is directed at herself.

“Come with me if you want to help”

There’s no question of that, so Lara quickly follows the woman who’s bellowing at her.

She’s got a great set of lungs Lara thinks to herself before recognising the woman as one of the ‘Lavenders’ rock group.

“Hi, I’m sorry we don’t have much time for proper introductions but I’m Pinky, one of the Lavenders. We’ve been told to help you all in any way possible, and it so happens that we use our own individual spacecraft for getting to gigs. I’m sure we can make use of them in combat if you’re willing to trust me?”

Combat? Real space/time combat in a spacecraft? Bugger me! Where will this all end? thought Lara to herself. “Yes, I must be crazy, but I have no choice really do I?”

“Not if you want to see your friends again, my dear,” quipped her own personal space pilot.

As they walked to the hangars, Lara told Pinky a bit about herself, explaining that while she wasn’t much of a fighter, she was a damned good mechanic, and showed her the amazing Sonic Screwdriver that her father had given her on her 21st birthday. She had been more excited to see that than the fabulous new vehicle he had first offered her.

Once they reached the hangars, it was agreed between the group that the Lavenders should concentrate on getting the ships ready for take-off, while those with mechanical and engineering skills (like herself) would go around the small ships checking all the weaponry with their tool kits, tweaking the settings to fine tune the firepower to ammo ratio, checking the trajectory of the laser cannon, making sure the ships were as powerful as possible and gave plenty of shield protection, especially against the vile green mist that was spewing out of the mouth of the beast. The mages were in a group discussing which spells would work best in this situation and how to power up quickly, whilst the alchemists could be seen sharing out flasks and boxes of who knew what. The rangers were also in a huddle discussing attack strategies and reassuring one another about their targeting skills.

It was all a rush job given the circumstances, there was every chance they’d blow up before they even reached the upper atmosphere, but she graciously thanked the group for all their efforts. She hugged Miss Pugsy and apologized for mistaking her for a boy, which was easily done as she mostly dressed in overalls and had a spanner in her hand instead of a handbag.

Lara asked those staying behind for the favour of looking after Albert should anything bad befall them. Gingerly climbing into the spacecraft, Lara took a quick last look at the pub off in the distance, wishing that this was all a bad nightmare, and they were still sitting in the warm cozy snug, enjoying a cool pint of draught ale.

As Lara wiggled into one of the spacesuits and buckled herself in, Pinky explained the communications system that was a part of her helmet, enabling hands-free contact with the rest of her squadron. Pinky tried to lighten the mood a little, “I hope you like music? I personally find it helps me concentrate.” She grinned as she turned the speakers up to number 11, letting the deep bass guitar and wild drums put her in the mood for some nifty maneuvering.

Taxiing out onto the launching area, Lara could just see the tiny figures of Nightshade and Ayla at either side of her in their own ships. She hoped that all would be well with them, but now she had to concentrate on memorising the controls for each of the weapons at her disposal. On her left was a laser cannon; to the right was a fierce looking cutting tool that could saw through a plane’s wing like a knife through butter. Hopefully they would not be getting that close!

“Are you sure these suits are sealed tight against any poisons, Pinky?”

“Yes, sometimes we have to fly close to the Unseelie lands when we’re touring, so it pays to be safe,” came the reply.

Kaiidth smiled uneasily at the band member standing next to the ship that Ayla had pointed out for her. "You can pilot one of these things, yeah? I'm more of a shooter than a pilot," she said jokingly. "I’m Kaiidth, by the way."

Her pilot introduced himself as Ty, replying, "Yeah, I can pilot just about anything with wings…or a tail," He winked at her playfully.

Kaiidth inspected the guns before getting into the cockpit. Looking at the screen and controls she nodded once to Ty. Ty hopped in and started up the engine, moving onto the runway once he was given clearance to fly.

Seeing that the team was well situated, Ayla greeted Mauve with a troubled smile. “Please convey my deepest gratitude to your comrades, and your mother. She has surely raised a fine son. While I am not usually inclined to the intensity of Faerock, you may certainly utilize the sound system if you wish.”

“Don’t worry about a thing, Miss Ayla. We’re in this together,” replied Mauve.

“Thank you. It is always nice to know that should something be found wanting, it will be provided if at all possible. I hope that someday I may return the favor. Oh! That gives me an idea. Do you like fireworks?”

“Ayla, I’m in a rock band…fireworks appreciation is a prerequisite,” he said in a merry tone.

Donning her helmet, Ayla tested the communications systems, asking “Can everyone hear me? Lara, Phineas, Kaiidth, Nightshade? Lavenders?” The replies came, each in their turn, some nervous, some steely and some eager. “Alright, here we go.” Turning to Mauve, she gave him a nod, and they gently lifted away from the ground.

“Dancers leader to Ground Control, we’re headed up now.” It’s one thing to design and build a flying machine, it’s quite another to ride in one of these contraptions.

[spoiler=Dancing on air] “I’m glad for your assistance, dear boy,” said Phineas, turning to civilities in order to calm his nerves. He was many things; a musician, a lover, a person of questionable moral value, a ready companion or accomplice. He had never been comfortable with mass military struggle such as what he was now engaged in. Small scuffles or duels for the restoration of honor, sure. Of course, he understood the need for good to remain dominant over evil, so what must be done, must be done. Engaging in meaningless chatter during the ride up was a means to an end. Best to not get too wrapped up in what was to come. And it was coming sooner than he had expected, they had arrived. He gave Bob a winning grin, and set to. The first few shots were a little clumsy, but he found a rhythm quickly and began his minor offensive sweep, pausing only to look around for high priority targets. “Bank to the left, if you please, Bob, I see a group forming over in that direction. We’d better address them post haste.”

Ty took off and headed for the main ship, darting easily between the ships of fellow protectors. He headed for the smaller airships coming out of the Dragon, weaving in and out of ship debris. Kaiidth shot some easy targets going at the other fighters.

"I need more range to the left." As he turned to face the enemy ship, they opened fire. Kaiidth quickly returned fire and shot them down. Fortunately, there were only a few minor dings in the ship. They fly down some as Kaiidth shoots some stragglers.

"Ty, out to the left there’s a larger group shooting at some of our guys." She pointed so he could see it. Ty

The Rocky Runway

Just as they are about to take off, Pugsy runs up to the plane and taps on the window to gain Kelian's attention.

"Foller me, mates!"

She runs ahead and Kelian carefully taxies after her to a flat rock runway in back of a boulder. There sits the Victorious Vixen, with Izzy making a last minute inspection. To Tanaka's surprise, Hayao and Thorson are there as well.

"Get in, boys" Izzy commands unceremoniously. "You're a good fighter, Kelian, but even Tanaka's stealth skills won't get you close enough to reach that dragon ship. That's going to need the Vixen's speed, my skills, and those little distraction beacons and that reflective shield this fabulous inventor and his alchemist friend whipped up at warp speed."

Hayao and Thorson carefully explain about the cloaking and misdirecting device and how they work to the astonished fighters. While they do, a small figure carrying a very small dog slides out of the cargo bay of Kelian's fighter, and into the surprisingly larger one of the Vixen.

Larianne does this as silently and quickly as she possibly can, and then marvels at how Pugsy has created the bay to allow Izzy to make her contraband runs without losing speed. With great care, she pulls herself up into a top crevice. With Lappy in her arms, it's a very tight fit, but the shadows around the area make her feel sure they will both avoid detection, which isn't an easy feat with Tanaka.

She's just in time. Explanations given, Pugsy takes her place as co-pilot, and the two fighters head to tuck themselves into the cargo. Izzy leaps into position, engages the silencers, and starts the engines as Hayao and Thorson activate the timing on the first beacon and then engage the cloaking device.

"Wait!" Tanaka shouts as the Vixen springs to life.

But it is too late. With her mind locked on the journey, she is already starting the run, and Pugsy pushes the lifters to move them up and out of the surrounding rocks. On the ground, Hayao and Thorson signal the all clear. Izzy lifts up. They are headed into space.

Tanaka sighs. "Okay, Girlie, I guess we're stuck with you. Climb down and sit on my lap, or the G-force will throw you into the walls."

"Let her sit on MY lap. All you do is fight with her," Kelian argues, as Larianne sheepishly climbs down.

"I didn't think you saw me," she counters.

"You might have well have waved a flag and set off a cannon," Tanaka remarks dryly.

"Hmmfph!" she sputters, and daintily perches on Kelian's knees just in time for him to lock the seatbelt before Izzy hits the barrier with a boom and they are aloft in space, zooming toward the warship ahead.

Will this succeed? Will they be able to reach their goal and find Pale Lightning before their friends are all lost? Only powers beyond control know.

Dana is done checking up her sonic screwdriver - this annoying squeaking noise is finally gone. She'd definitely need it in good condition, and now it's ready. And still, there's an uneasy atmosphere all over the place, an Unseelie attack is basically unavoidable and could happen anytime, but when? Nobody knows - only that it'll be soon. Staring out of the window, she sees the others, occupated with preparations as well, and her thoughts wander towards them. I wonder if we'll stay together? And if not, will we meet again? She sees Reyna's blonde hair wave in the breeze, and she knows. Well, we at least will for sure. Wyn boops her shoulder with her little nose to demand pets and cuddles, and that pulls Dana out of the clouds. "Yeeeah, you big baby, come here. Let's go downstairs, hm?"

Bohemian Travelers Venture in the Final Battle A worried expression passes between the remainder of the team on their visit to the hospital, since their vagabond Elne and mage Galadeth were still very ill. The hope that they had improved was denied as Chandie attempted to play quiet healing music, Blood simply frowns at her inability to do anything, Kronus watches the beds in the semi-private room sadly, gazing from one to the other and the drip of water from Dori in agitation was easily heard when Chandie's music died down. In the sudden quiet an unearthly sound somewhere between a scream and a rumble was heard outside the window, Elne's weak voice is heard...

"What is that sound?"

While Galadeth watches them move toward the window, not strong enough to stand. Blood whispers quietly to Chandie, Kronus and Dori staring at the sky...

"The Death Dragon, the unseelie are coming"

Chandie turns toward Elne and Galdeth.

"Don't you worry about anything.. just get well. We'll go check out the noise."

The rest of the team attempt not to look rushed until they are out the door then everyone runs knowing time is imminent and they all are needed now. Once they arrived at the flight decks, all briefly conferring with the other teams then each team went their way having a definite plan according to the phases the fight would adhere to.

Kronus looks at all the ships on the hanger floor and becomes excited....

"Look at all this!!!"

He shouts unable to contain himself..Wooo hooo...Looking at the rest of his group...

"Let's get out there and do some damage guys!!! We need some weapons installed and ..and ..and ....ammo...and....ammo..."

His voice trails off as he rushes for a Tie ship.

While Chandie, frightened to fly, gazes dejectedly at Blood and Kronus climbing in their Tie yet holding onto the device that Elne had made before she got ill.. one of her experiments in communication, the bard speaks slowly and carefully holding it closely to her mouth..

"Can you hear me Blood, Kronus?"

Waiting with baited breath for an answer, Chandie and Dori are suddenly dragged to a much larger ship by.. is that a band member? Unsure of this, yet reasoning to herself to pretend she is on the ground.. at least it was a bigger ship even though they called it a medium size, she turns to Dori glad at least some of her team is near.

Shown what is needed with the weapons after a crew member attached some with a lot of ingenuity .. and having a pretty good aim, Chandie simply nods obviously puzzled by the proceedings though she begins to load them into a tube thing pointed out to her then stares out the window, ready to aim. Following what others do, she worries not only about the rest of the team but her companion, Chandie mutters unhappily, we are being pulled apart...I hope this is the right thing to do.

Dori appears to be standing by Chandie in the big ship, yet is very clearly seen inside a tie-fighter, without the symbiot! While on the ship, Dori is very slowly handing large, heavy artillery ammunition to Chandie, with the tie-fighters Dori appears to be in a tie-fighter ship, grouped with the other members of the team, focusing on amassing as much damaged as possible to the left wing weapons array.

Astral projection requires tremendous concentration and having to keep up appearances of moving on the big ship and not appearing to be in a trance, Dori breaks out in the equivalent of massive human perspiration, which manifests itself as pools of ink by Dori's feet. Not able to spare even a glance to check the incriminating "evidence", Dori notes to self that this puddle will need to be taken care of swiftly upon winning this battle. Humans are sensitive about excessive bodily fluids. Oh! To be back on Transphibia with my mates!

Hearing the voices in front of the ship...

"Phase One, we are at the Communications Array.. Fire at Will!!"

Chandie attempts to do just that yet can't help but pause for the briefest moment to look down at the strange ink on the floor. Assuming it is something else of this ship she doesn't understand, she throws a book down to stand on then resumes fire while calling out to Dori...

"Be careful.. some kind of ink spilling from something!"

Blood Frenzy climbed in the tie-fighters ball-cockpit and powered up the ion engine. She was positive that she was not willing to sacrifice herself or her wing-mates to accomplish the mission but she was as sure as hell going to have a fun time taking out the Main Communications Array of the Dragon Ship. This will disrupt their ability to coordinate attacks on the ships who have united to destroy our common enemy. The target came into view on the ships' targeting computer, becoming larger and larger, until the entire screen was just The Dragon. Closing in on the Main Communications Array she began firing the laser cannons one after the other. Seeing a torpedo heading my way she maneuvered the fighter to the right and was able to avoid it. Frenzy noticed Kronus on her left, cannons blazing at the target. Lining up the target again she let out a barrage at the Array. With all of these tie fighters attacking, it could not be long before it was disabled. A close volley from the enemy and the lack of combat shields on Frenzy's ship caused a few heart thumping moments as she lost control for several seconds.

As she regained control she noticed that the Firefly class ship which was doing the majority of the damage to the Main Communications Array was coming under some serious gun-fire from the Dragons' cannons. All of a sudden she realized that she had not read the briefing of this mission correctly. She was not supposed to be taking out the Communications Array, but was supposed to be defending the Firefly that was attempting to disarm the Array. Frenzy called Kronus on the tele-communications Elne (our mage) had set up, telling him to forget the Array and help the Firefly.

"This is ds-45-1 (Kronus)come in Chandie over"

...crackling sound on the headset...

"This is quite a crate...literally!! I am on top of these cannons but I am sure we have them destroyed....there's no action coming from these cannons..I am going in on the comms array...taking a swipe at the antenae and all that is connected to it. I see that I have someone on my tail and taking pot shots at me so will manoeuvre around the enemy ship and come up on the opposite side face to face with another tie fighter and let him have it dead centre on the eye"

....the ship explodes into little pieces and the shardes bounce around onto the deck of the enemy ship below, I can see many parts screaming out into space in red and green and white colors...I skirt around the comms array taking more shots and swing around to find the tie fighter that has had my backside in his sights then let fly with a few shots to this tie fighters eye and he crumbles into pieces too.

"ds-46-1 (Blood) come in this is ds -45-1 ...do you read me,over??"

Kronus came in loud and clear with no distortion or background noise at all saying that he was onto it. Changing course she put all her effort into defending the Firefly. Volley after volley was fired at the enemy ships, continuously ..... it seemed for hours. Then she heard a most welcome message from Chandie, over the tele-communications saying the the primary objective was immobilized and to take out a few secondary targets. Contacting Kronus Frenzy told him to pick a target and set about obliterating it. Setting her sights on the left wing weapons array she once again began firing. In a sort while the weapons array was shredded by her cannons. Giving herself a pat on the back for a job well done she settled back to relax a bit.

Unable to view Blood and Kronus, Chandie was very worried until heard a brief word from each then sighed with relief.

"I think we are following you Blood, attempting to assist the others, I am trying to keep the enemy ships away from all of you."

Suddenly the dragon ship unleashes hundreds of fighters upon everyone and close combat ensues. It is a free-for all dogfight. Chandie heard others in the ship mention a phase two attack and they were to destroy all the enemy’s small fighters and all teams joined in. Frenzy had just finished congratulating herself when the sky was suddenly lit up with thousands upon thousands of tracer lights. Dori called on the tele-communications saying that The Dragon Ship was unleashing hundreds of fighters upon us. This certainly was not going to be a piece of cake. She picked out a target and fired just as a torpedo was headed her way. She maneuvered to her left and it flew past narrowly missing the hexagonal panel. Aiming once again at an enemy ship she fired. This time it was a hit and down went the fighter. She aimed at another fighter firing, eventually hitting the other pilot's engine. Two down, hundreds to go. Again she lined up a target, the pilot desperately sought to out-maneuver Frenzy to no avail. Surrounded by comrades and the enemy it looked like this dog fight would not be ending soon. In the ensuing hours many planes went down on both sides, but the allies were getting the upper hand and the number of enemy fighters was dwindling fast. The last hours of the battle were intense and exhausting but at long last the enemy fighters were all destroyed and we were able to turn our focus back to The Dragon. This time to obliterate the ship.

Laying the communicator on a shelf, Chandie gazes toward Dori briefly then turns to her job.. load, aim, fire. Happy that she was contributing in some way she hums a tune unconsciously, one unknown yet noticeable enough to the other crew members who began to repeat the notes. Suddenly all their efforts seemed improved, the pilot was faster in this older ship and moved with less effort, those manning the weapons seemed to hit their targets more keeping enemy ships away from the other fighter teams.

Managing to catch a deep breath Chandie again calls Blood...

"It looks like the enemy ships are less but we got hit once.. Dori hasn't moved but I jumped off my book the noise was so loud."

Gazing at the damage to the older ship, Chandie tried not to convey her worry and continued to hit the enemy as best she could though their ship was much slower to maneuver around now.

Defending The League of Whovians, Fallen Angels and The Stone Cold Rogues teams in their Firefly class ships as they attempt to target the engines in phase three of the mission to destroy The Dragon was not going to be easy. The Dragon may be injured but there was no way it was incapacitated yet. Frenzy flew as close as she could to the three teams, fighting the cannons consistently, at the secondary targets. The docking bay was destroyed previously and with it all the small fighters ...... most of The Dragon was destroyed but something unearthly, maybe Unseelie kept it viable.

The main target now was the bridge and those in control of the vessel. Checking that all the Fireflys were OK, Frenzy changed course and did a quick recon over the ship where the bridge was situated. The air was clear and no enemy ships were near. She quickly fired a few well placed volleys at the bridge before darting back to defend the teams once again. The Destroyers were becoming less in numbers as the hours went by. All involved in this battle were hoping that the end would be soon. Frenzy alternated between defending and when the sky was clear, hurrying back to the bridge, attempting to destroy it and the inhabitants. Each of the Firefly vessels had many close calls and several hits but nothing major and they we doing a wonderful job taking out the engines. Only one remained and it would not take too long to be eradicated.

Taking down another few of the enemy ships, Frenzy heard both Chandie and Dori over the tele-communications, they were laughing, cheering and yelling out...

"Time for the final blow. Time for the final blow."

The end was at last near.

Glancing briefly then doing a double-take had Chandie gasping at Ginger padding near her side coming from a storage bin at the rear of the compartment. Unmindful of the liquid on the floor, though strangely her companion sniffed first the liquid then Dori, Chandie leans down and gives her dog a big hug admonishing her...

"You could have gotten hurt following me on board, you shouldn't have!"

Feeling guilty at the drooped tail she pets her companion with a large smile.

"I missed you, just stay here"

Suddenly there was shouting over the communicator and in the ship with rejoicing heard as the Unseelie ship's lights went out and there was no movement at all from the giant vessel.

"We did it!"

...was heard repeated over and over. Now just the mop up.. make sure there weren't any surprises from the giant Unseelie ship.

Another medium ship docked next to their own and Chandie along with her companion and Dori were moved from the damaged vessel. All that was left was the moping up..and the party. Chandie was anxious to see her team and make sure all were unharmed, then go to visit Elne and Galadeth in the hospital...perhaps they would be well enough to help celebrate.

The Whovians join the Protectors in a Great Space Battle The DeathDragon looms ominously above the group of adventurers. Team representatives frantically gather and hold an emergency war room to determine the best strategy to halt the Unseelie invasion. Time was against them though. They needed to come up with a battle plan quickly. Finally one was agreed upon. Representatives returned to their teams to debrief.

After a quick visit to their comrades in hospital, the remaining Whovians all climbed aboard the Cumberbatch. Clara and Haneway quickly fill Raw and Sera in on the plan. "Okay, there are three prongs of attack. First phase, teams are going to target the Poison array, the communications and the bridge. We are going after the bridge. Don't hit the other ships by accident, I don't think they would appreciate it." Hane looks sternly at Raw.

"Alongside this, we need to target as many of the smaller ships and take them out. Finally, several of the teams and ourselves will take out the engine. Raw, you take the Turret at the top, Hane, do you have anything explosive? We could pack the SecuriDroids and let them loose." Hane nods her head, enthusiastically, explosive, sure! "For the final phase we are going after the engines. Okay guys, let's get to it. Raw scrambles off to man the Simple Energized Turret. Sure she wasn't in her natural element one-on-one sword to sword combat, but this was the next best thing, taking out a huge DeathDragon. She was squirming with excitement. Haneway packs high powered explosives to the SecuriDroids, Clara and Sera settle down to man the control desk. "this is just a bigger version of my shuttle, right" mutters Clara as she gazes around at the desk. "Sera, I'll need you to be in charge of the Spectrabeam Laser. Be ready to hit that button!" She turns on the internal communications unit "Whovians, are we all in place?" One by one, Clara hears them all checking in. Turning to Sera, she gives her the frequencies to patch in the other teams. "Cumberbatch all ready to go," She fires up the starting rockets. The battle was on!

Looking around, Clara could see the other Trainquility vessels alongside, followed by the Tie-Fighters, some of the other adventurers looking rather green as they clung white-knuckled to their seat harnesses, sitting alongside or behind one of the Lavenders. The Lavenders themselves looked as excited as Raw had, all geared up for a big space battle.

"Raw, we will soon be in range of the dragon's disrupter beams and poison array. Let's hope the teams do their part and take them out, otherwise hold on tight, this might get a little bumpy. We're going for the bridge."

Clara was more used to flying a small manoeverable shuttle, not a large fighter but she was doing her best. Dipping her wings she flew the ship towards the target, ducking and weaving around the beams. "Eek.. that one was a bit close" she said to Sera as she felt the Cumberbatch shudder.

Soon their first target was in range. The bridge of the dragon was barely visible above the smoking mouth. Clara knew there was only a chance for one or two shots before they pulled off. "Raw, target between the eyes, and Sera go for the forehead." With energy beams pulsing everywhere, she fought to keep the craft stable. The was not the life of a Companion -- how did she get into this? She breathed deeply and focused, flying the Cumberbatch as close as possible. "Now!" Both guns fired simultaneously, hitting right between the eyes, high and low. Shots from other ships added to theirs, but the shielding was strong. She peeled off and circled away for the next phase.

Suddenly Sera's voice comes over the internal comms. "we are getting attacked by the smaller enemy ships. Haneway, are the Droids ready? I'm going to release the hatch"

Hane looked at the little machines. Having built one earlier, making more was a piece of cake. Well, that's a lie, but they were so cute, she hated to release them nevertheless. "OK buddies, time to do your dirty work." Hane strapped herself down "release the hatch!" and a fleet of baby death machines zoomed out of the ship. The hatch closed quickly and she jumped to the window, but the droids were already tiny dots against the flashing brightness of the gunfire. Within seconds, the first Unseelie fighter exploded, then another. "That's some fine chemistry to make an explosion like that in a vacuum!" shouts Sera over the comm. "Chemistry, magic, it's not all that different," laughed Hane. Some of the fighters have caught on to the threat, turning and targeting the little bots. The droids did have some avoidance programming, and circled each other, causing confusion and disruption in the ranks of fighters. Their perfect formation had been disrupted, and the Protectors took advantage to mow them down.

The fleet of enemy ships had been destroyed. But the DeathDragon was finished with them yet. It might be limping, but it certainly was not out. Somehow, bright beams were coming out of the Dragon's eyes, glowing fiery red and sharp. The Protectors knew, it was time to end it now. The battle of all battles. Trainquility vessels moved into place. The smaller tie-fighters gathered around them in defence. Clara's voice came over the comms. "Whovians, this is it. We are going for the Dragon's engines. Let's take it out." Sera reminded Clara not to get to close. If the engine blew up, which was indeed the mission, they didn't want to be caught up in the blast zone.

The Dragon knew it was cornered, and like any other cornered animal, knew that the only thing left to do was to fight desperately for it's life.

One enemy fighter floated next to the Cumberbatch. "Hey, does that one still work?" came Raw's voice over the comms. "Watch out, Hane, I'm opening the bay doors and coming down."

"What the heck are you doing?"

"Getting in on the action. This standing back and firing is sooooo boring! Here, Gladees, fetch." Raw threw the repair droid in the direction of the floating Tie Fighter and it clamped onto a wing, towing it into the docking bay.

"Wait, can you fly that thing?"

"I'm certainly gonna learn quick grin" Raw pried the door open, stepping back when the dead unSeelie fell out. "Someone needs to get close to those engines, and he's not going to use it." She jumped in and starting pressing buttons until the little craft shot out of the bay, dragging the body, and several floor tiles, with it. Hane ran up to use the turret. "Look at her go!" Oblivious to the threat from the dragon (or maybe just unable to steer), Raw's ship was on a direct course with the engines.

"Yeeeeeehaaaaa!" At the last minute, she swerved away, firing at a single spot over and over.

"Oh my Goddess," exclaimed Clara. "She's made a weak spot -- everyone, focus your fire there." The Firefly captains held formation and hit the exact same area, which began to glow white hot, and just as Raw got out of range, the first engine blew, one explosion cascading into the next. At the same time, other ships had taken out the control centers. "Main Dragon done," came a voice over the comm; "Reevers cleaned out" said another. "Looks like there's just one Tie Fighter," said a third, "We'll take it out."

"Nonononononononono! Hold your fire. That's one of ours," yelled Sera. "And Raw, don't think you're landing that thing in our ship," said Clara. "We'll have someone with a grappling beam bring you down."

Lots of cheers and whoops could be heard over the communications systems. The sound of triumphant Protectors. "Great job, team" said Clara to the Whovians, "now let's get back down to ground and check we haven't caused too much damage down there. Turning to Sera, "Do you want to take us down. I need to go and find something to ease my nerves." She stepped away from the controls and down to the staff quarters. Haneway was already there, cooking up something edible. "I was going to bake a cake. But it seems we have no flour on board, so it's pretty much protein all the way." Clara sunk into a chair. All was good.

The End...or is it? Meanwhile, back in the hospital, Kyo lay in bed drifting in and out of consciousness. She vaguely remembered her fellow adventurers coming in to say farewell. Something about a battle. It was all a bit fuzzy. The sickness had hit her hard. She felt something furry brush her cheek. Good old Tupsy. Never far away. As her mind wandered and reality faded she pictured the first of her adventures with the Whovians. 'Oh what fun we had!' She had made so many new friends. She was going to miss them. And Tupsy. Oh Tupsy. The best companion anyone could have asked for. A tear rolled down her cheek from underneath her closed eyelids. The beeps from the machines started to quieten as she let herself drift into the light. She was going on the greatest adventure of them all. Farewell my friends and good luck. The beeping stopped.... and the silence was deafening.

But...then Tupsy got off of her ventilator hose. A great intake of air, and the light turned back into normal sunshine, sprinkled with debris burning up in the atmosphere. Perhaps there was time for one more trip.

[spoiler=The Protectors Bring Down The Dragon] Standing and staring up at the vast Unseelie armada seems to have frozen the Fallen Angels. Seeing the Dragon's disruptor ray cut one of the Crystanians flyers in half jolted them out of their frozen state and Jeice whistled low. "Did y'all see that?! Where can I get me one of those?" she yells out as Atrueheart grabs Webby by the arm and motions the rest of the Fallen Angels to her.

"Time to misbehave Fallen Angels!" she cries out over the roar of the impending army. "Webby... I need you to get on the ship and get her engines warmed up and ready to fly and we need you to reprogram the reflector discs to repel that goram disruptor ray!"

"Shiny Captain!" Webby yells and then turns and runs toward the Fallen Angel.

Atrueheart continues snapping out orders to her team and moving fast. Laurie rolls her eyes and tells Jeice in a whisper "She did say if she ever went to war we'd see something new!" Jeice just grins and punches Laurie on the shoulder "I've seen her this way before and I'm telling ya now, ya better get a move on! She ain't playin', she's planning on misbehavin'!"

"Laurie and Jeice you'll be manning the turret guns so get them mounted asap and make sure they are ready to rock!" she nods at Laurie and Jeice who take off at a dead run toward the hangar following fast on Webby's heels, their companions running alongside them. Laurie reaches down a hand and lifts Hope up onto her hip so she can get there faster. Running with Jeice, Laurie yells out "You ready for this?" and Jeice replies with a snort "I was born ready! Ya better have some coin warrior 'cause the fighter that gets the least "kills" is buying when we get through!" Laurie laughs and shakes a finger at Jeice. "You'll be the one buying!"

"Talli what you got for me? We're gonna need nullification spells, blasting spells, something to counteract that poisonous gas, and a spell to keep our ship shields at max." Atrueheart says as she turns to her Mage. "I'm on it True! I'll be ready!" Talli cries out as she turns and runs back inside to grab her spell books and staff.

Turning to Calie, who is still staring in fascination at the Dragon, Atrueheart grasps her arm and shakes it getting her attention. "Snap out of it Calie! I'm gonna need the most powerful concoction you can come up with for those torpedoes on the ship." Calie nods and shouts over the noise "I'm on it. I need some supplies, but then I'll be in the cargo bay." As she runs beside Atrueheart, returning inside the Gearless Goose, Atrueheart spies a group of the Protectors gathering in the center of the big room and halts Calie to tell her "Their the other Team Captains, Calie. It's gonna take more than just us to bring that freakin' Dragon down." she motions toward the group. "I'm gonna go see what the battle plan is and then join y'all on the Fallen Angel."

"See you there True!" Calie replies as she is consulting a supply list in her hand and then motions over to Ms. Miranda. "I'm gonna need a few things from your store!" They confer quickly and head to the shelves, pulling things rapidly and stuffing them in bags. "That ought to do it, Ms. Miranda. Thank you!" Calie states as she closes up the last bag. Slinging several bags over her shoulder Calie heads outside and runs to the ship's bay followed by one of the shop boys carrying more bags.

Atrueheart walks over to the other team captains, who are talking strategy. "Well ladies and gents, what's the plan?" Atrueheart says as she bends over some crude sketches of the Dragon and the Unseelie flyers. Frieda, one of the other team captains, had a list of assignments and Atrueheart tapped on several. "The Fallen Angel will initially target the Communications Array and then move on to the engines." Frieda writes Fallen Angel beside those tasks and hands her a list of spells that the combined mages would be using for Talli. "Good Hunting Atrueheart!" Frieda swishes her tail in appreciation. "Now when the signal goes out for the final blow on the Dragon ship, after we've weakened it enough, every team, every ship unleash hell's fury on them. Give it everything you've got! Then we'll clean up the rest of the Unseelie rabble!" All the team captain's nod in agreement and then head out to their ships.

Climbing up the ramp of the Fallen Angel, Atrueheart can see that the gun turrets are mounted and Jeice and Laurie checking out the guns. Webby can be overheard in the engine room banging on something with her wrench. Poking her head out of the engine room she cries out to Atrueheart "No worries Captain. I'll have her running like a top for you!" Talli and Calie are over at a table on the side of the ships bay. Calie grinding ingredients furiously, a stack of torpedoes next to her. Talli is poring over her spell books and mumbling to herself as she hands ingredients to Calie occasionally. Walking past them on the way to the bridge, Atrueheart hands the mage's list of spells over to Talli and states "We fly in five minutes Angels!"

Hearing the five minute call, Webby, working furiously on the solar discs display panel, squeals in frustration. "Webby configure this... Webby I need those engines at max… Webby pull a miracle out of your a..." she mumbles. She pulls up a diagnostic screen to begin her reconfiguration of the solar discs. Running a basic diagnostic, marking parts to enhance to create better power flow and max energy she programs the solar discs to deflect the Dragon's Disruptor Ray. "Solar discs reconfigured Captain. Good to go!" Webby calls out over the ships comm. Hearing a slight disruption in the engine's harmonics, Webby grabs her sonic screwdriver and opens a panel. With a twist of the screwdriver, the engine settles into a soft hum. Slamming the panel shut Webby pats the engine. "Hang in there girl!" she says. Her companion Blue is chittering away and is working on the weapons panel. Webby walks over to it and can see what all Blue's fuss is about. Several of the lights are red instead of green, so taking her sonic screwdriver she bangs on the side of the panel. Lights are all green across the board as a result. Blue looks up at her questioningly. "What? It works every time!" Webby shrugs her shoulders and heads over to her tool box.

Calie ground furiously at the ingredients needed for the torpedoes. Whoever heard of a ship that didn’t carry a full load of torpedoes at all times? She shook her head in exasperation. Making torpedoes from scratch; didn’t any of them know how long that took? First she had to find casings that fit the cannons, then containers to fit inside the casings to hold the explosives, then grinding the ingredients for the… it took a long time, darn it all!

The other Angels scrambled around her, getting themselves ready for battle, as she flexed her fingers and grumbled before going back to grinding. At least she’d been able to find most everything she needed from Ms. Miranda. Surprising even herself, she was able to create several torpedoes by the time Atrueheart returned from meeting with the other Protectors. Hearing Atrueheart's five minute warning she finishes placing the completed torpedoes near the launch tubes.

Laurie, up in one of the gun turrets is completing her diagnostics and seeing that it all checks out sit's back and hugs Hope. "Here we go Hope! You hang on little one because it's gonna get rough up here." Hope settles into a corner out of Laurie's way, looking adorable in a space suit and helmet. Hope gives Laurie a thumbs up.

Jeice leaned back in her chair, flexed her fingers and sneezed. She so wasn’t paying for drinks tonight! Now, if only she could get rid of this darned cold everything would be great.

Atrueheart sits in the captain's chair and runs a quick glance over her controls, nodding satisfactorily at the all green board. Jinx, her monkey companion, isn't a big fan of space flight and so he grabs his blanket and tucks himself in under her console. "A lot of help you are silly monkey!" Atrueheart laughs. "That's okay Jinx, you've earned your rest after all the work you and the other companions did gathering intelligence.”

Atrueheart then turns back to the ships console and flips a switch opening communications and states "Sound off Fallen Angels! Need a go, no go from each station!" Her team all give her a Go and then she opens communications to the other team Captains. "Fallen Angel is heading into the Black! Making our run for the Dragon's Communications Array! Need fire support from any flyers available to clear the row to the Dragon." Atrueheart calmly states.

Talli, sitting in the co-pilots position, shouts "Done! Shields at max True!" Turning around in her seat, Talli addresses her dire wolf, “Moriel, I need you to fetch my crystal pouch from our room. Noro lim!” As the Elvish fell from her tongue, her wolf took off in a lightning-quick dash for their quarters. Talli turned her attention back to the book in her hands. The spells they needed, she could cast, no doubt, but how long would she be able to maintain them? Even with the Seelie magic, she was feeling the drain of the past couple weeks keenly. Pressing a thumb to her right temple, she sent a prayer up to her gods for the safety of her crewmates and the others. With any luck, they’d get through this alive. “Today, everyone lives.” she promised under her breath.

Muttering in ancient Elvish, Talli summoned a protective shield around the entire ship. It would hold, for now. Hopefully it would keep from any more pieces of their precious Fallen Angel from falling off. In a split second, the radar began to blare. Four Unseelie ships surrounded them. They were trapped. The Fallen Angel shook as the shield took the brunt of the damage from the blows by the enemy cannons. She had to stop them from hitting the shield any harder, or it would certainly break. “True!” she shouted, “They’re surrounding us. Prepare for the EMP blast!” Anxiety bubbled in her chest as she threw the lever to activate the pulse. The entire Angel shook as the blast went out in a circle around them and the Unseelie ships went black. “Dead in the water!” Talli yelled, for whomever could hear. At least they knew that worked now!

When Moriel returned with the pouch, she dropped it into Talli’s lap and pressed her head into Talli’s side. Of course she could tell; she always knew when her friend was distressed. “Thank you.” Talli went to turn back to the panels, but Moriel nudged her again. Talli turned and looked into her wolf’s eyes, and she understood. ”Boe amen veriad lîn.” she prayed, her voice a raspy whisper. ” An ngell nîn.” A soft glow began to radiate from her hands and as suddenly as it had appeared, it vanished. Talli flashed a small smile at her friend as she went back to manning the EMP controls, her staff grasped in her left hand, holding her magical barrier in place around the Fallen Angel.

Laurie speaks over the ships comm as the Fallen Angel lifts off. "Shoot straight Jeice. Looks like a lot of flyers coming at us." Laurie begins aiming and pulling her guns trigger. "Scratch one and two!" she calls out as two of the enemy flyers, flying straight for the Fallen Angel explode into dust. Trigger finger pumping she helps clear the pathway for Atruehearts run at the Dragon, Hope keeping a tally of her "kills" in a little notebook.

Feeling the ship shudder as the Unseelie small flyers and firefly class ships blanket the area in fire, Atrueheart smiles evilly. "They aren't gonna know what hits them!" she states as she triggers the laser cannon, targeting one of their engines, and is satisfied with the explosion that cripples their ship. Satisfied with hearing both her gunner’s rapid firing and keeping the small flyers occupied, Atrueheart pushes the engines heading for the Dragon. Weaving in and out avoiding the enemy ships and giving the "friendlies" plenty of room, Atrueheart murmurs under her breath "I am a leaf on the wind. Watch me soar." Talli looks up from her spell book and asks "What was that True?" Atrueheart glanced her way and said "I am a leaf on the wind. Watch.... Oh never mind hon. It's a zen thing!"

Jeice called out from her turret, “Just go with it Talli. True’s always been a little zen. By the way, do you think you can do anything for the engines? I’m feeling the engine cough every now and then and it’s creating havoc with my aim.”

“It’s not the engines, Jeice! It’s your aim! Another one down; add it to the tally Hope!” Laurie called back from the other turret. In the roosterpit, Talli perked her head up suddenly.

Running from the roosterpit at full speed with Moriel at her heels, Talli called out for Webby. Skidding to a halt once she reached the engine room, she addressed her friend, “I have an idea!” she panted. She leaned on her staff for a moment before continuing, “I’ve got a spell that I think might work to boost the engines.”

“Well, why didn’tcha say somethin’ sooner?!” Webby called from her current spot underneath the large steaming machine. “Go for it!”

Talli smiles and turns her focus to the engine. This would be tricky to do while still holding the shields up, but she had faith. She knew she could do it now. She began chanting and motioned with her free hand and the crystal at the top of her staff glowed brightly. Shimmering particles of light emerged from the crystal and began to soak the engine itself. She heard a surprised shout from Webby, but kept going. Before long, the entire engine glowed bright blue, a faint pulsing sound detectable under the whirr of the machinery. “There!” Talli shouted above the noise, “That’ll keep her from losing any parts any time soon, and give her a power boost to boot.” She turned on her heels and waved for Moriel to follow as she sped back to the roosterpit.

“Is it done?” True asked as the pair returned. Talli nodded in confirmation as she took her seat back at the co-pilot controls, catching her breath again. You’d think with all the running they’d been doing lately, a bolt across the ship would be nothing, but all the metal stairways were really doing her in. No earth to draw power from, less energy for all the strenuous activities. Just as she was about to open her mouth to speak, the ship rocked hard from another impact. It caught Talli off-guard and the shields faltered, flickering and fading to nothing. “Talli?!” True called, alarmed. “Please tell me you can bring that shield back up, pronto!”

Talli’s eyes widened and she threw her staff arm forward, sending out another magical shield to cover the Fallen Angel once more. She could feel her stamina draining, and she prayed this would all be over soon. “Oh Varda,” she muttered, “Protect us.”

"Holy Mother that's a big ship!" Atrueheart cries out as it begins to fill the forward screen. The Dragon, bristling with fire power and menace, was intimidating but not impossible to stop. Not with all the Protectors in on the kill. Bringing up her targeting system screen, Atrueheart puts in the coordinates for the Communications Array of the Dragon and fires off a shot of the laser cannon. The Dragon answers her shot with a beam from her Disruptor Ray! Praying that Webby's modifications for our Solar collection discs work, Atrueheart calls out over ship communications "Brace yourselves Angels!" The Dragon's Disruptor Ray deflects off the metal disc and slices a couple of the small enemy flyers in half. "Whoop!" Atrueheart shouts. "Just earned you a night on the town Webby! Solar Discs repelling Disruptor Ray!"

Webby snorts and retorts over the ships comm "As if there were any doubt of my skills Captain!" Hearing a rivet pop on the engine, she rushes over with her sonic screwdriver and replaces the rivet. "Goram used parts!" she mutters to herself as she slathers another part with engine oil. Blue is riding around in her hair and keeps up a running commentary right along with Webby. Monitoring the ships comm and keeping up with the battle, Webby continues tweaking the engine with her mythril wrench and sonic screwdriver.

“Got bogeys on our six, captain! They aren

[spoiler=The Great Battle of the Protectors of the Squirrel VS the Unseelie Squadron] The Foggiest Notions had not expected the path that this adventure lead them on, especially where it was ending. They were faced with a battle of epic proportions. Their companions brought back intel on the Unseelie’s attack and it was a doozy! The Unseelie were attacking with all their might and this left the adventurers, all of them known as the Protectors of the Squirrel collectively, to defend the Seelie lands as well as Bordertown.

Turf was not at all accustomed to air travel and suddenly he was being asked to pilot a small single person airship known as a TIE-fighter. He wasn’t the only one that was apprehensive about this. His whole team was. Fern was concerned about her claustrophobia so Turf enchanted an amulet for her to wear. It would protect her, causing her to forget about her condition and allow her to be perform at her best. The ships were equipped with laser cannons that weren’t too unlike shooting an arrow from a bow with a crosshair targeting system. The amulet would allow Fern the concentration needed to hit the targets.

Fern had tried to keep her concerns about flying hidden, not wanting to bring more burden to her team. She wasn't entirely surprised when Turf approached her about the matter, scolding herself for not being able to better hide her emotions. When Turf presented her with the enchanted amulet the gift brought tears to her eyes and she graciously accepted, throwing her arms around the satyr in a tight hug.

Fern seemed to have something more to say but she changed her mind before she could give voice to her thoughts. With a small smile she gave Turf a friendly kiss on the cheek, hurrying away to join her sister and Armina before her emotions had a chance to betray what she was feeling for the second time that day.

The way Fern acted did not go unnoticed by Turf. He had grown to have strong feelings for her over the course of their adventure together. Faced constantly with life and death decisions had made Turf appreciate the here and now. So when she kissed him on the cheek, he couldn’t help but smile ear to ear. He wanted to kiss her back but was so new at this “love” thing that he wasn’t sure if he could. Love, did I really just think that? he thought to himself and turned beet red.

Clearly annoyed by the pending air battle, Armina did not hold back her disdain for flying. “I've said it before and I will say it again,” the warrior stammered, “I'M NO PILOT!”

She stomped around the TIE-fighter grumbling and complaining so loudly she quickly drew the attention of the other adventurers. Many did not know what to think of this sudden outburst but the Foggiest Notions, used to her random rantings, paid her no mind at all.

The airships were simple enough to control and after a crash course in flying from some experienced pilots, they all seemed to be confident enough to fly on their own, even Armina.

The Protectors then met with one another and designed a plan to take out the Death Dragon ship as well as the smaller ships from its armada. The meeting lasted for what felt like a long time but it was mere minutes. Knowing what each and every one of the Protectors needed to do, the individual teams broke off to devise their plan of attack.

The Foggiest Notions decided to assist the teams with larger Flamefly Class ships. Being in smaller airships allowed them the maneuverability they would need to attack and flee as needed, “It’s been a crazy adventure, hasn’t it,” asked Turf to no one in particular. He then continued on, “We have our plan, now let’s do it!”

The Foggiest Notions suited up to board their ships, saying a farewell to their companions beforehand. They hoped that they would see them again but tried not to let it bother them too much, as they needed all the concentration they could muster.

The satyr was reluctant to leave his companion behind, but Turf knew that an airship battle was no place for a sprite like Frink. “You would hate it and you know it,” Turf said to Frink as the sprite threw a fit, “I promise I will be back and then we never have to be apart again.” Turf kissed Frink on the head and the sprite, hoping none of the other companions would see, gave Turf a kiss back and then stuck his tongue out in a huge raspberry.

The sprite then dove into Turf’s pocket and came back out with an arm full of cactus berries. He flew over to where the other companions were waiting, sat down with them, and they all began to munch on the tasty berries.

Not too sure about flying one of these ships. Ravensong feigned confidence, knowing that her worries and insecurities would only make things harder on her friends, though her mutters of being meant to stay on the ground were not entirely silent as she headed over to her fighter.

Sensing his mistress' unease, Kabe came over to where she was standing and head-butted her leg with a soft purr.

"Wish you were coming with me," Ravensong told him quietly as she knelt down to scratch the side of his chin.

With one more head-butt and a quiet meow, Kabe rubbed against her leg before turning and heading back to where the other companions were waiting, feeling as though he'd done his part to help.

Watching her friend walk away, Ravensong took a deep breath, doing her best to clear her mind of everything but what they'd been taught about flying and climbed into her TIE-fighter.

Fern gave her companion owl Tito a kiss goodbye and despite his protestful squawking she placed him down next to Kabe. The cat shoved a cactus berry into the tiny owl’s mouth to stop him from squawking.

With a tear running down her face Fern turned and hurried to her TIE-fighter, climbing into the cockpit. Fern was amazed to find that she truly felt at ease seated in the cockpit of her fighter and she brought a hand up to close around the amulet around her neck.

Thank you Turphinius... She thought, giving the amulet a squeeze. If only her mind could be free of all other worries as well. Parting with her companion had felt like a final goodbye and Fern couldn't shake off the fear she had for the safety of all of her friends.

Armina spoke to Odin in a whisper so faint only the small dragon could hear. He looked sad at first but seemed almost excited by the time she finished her speech. The warrior kissed him upon his tiny head and watched as Ogarath's only son flew from her shoulder to join the other companions.

The warrior was the last to climb into her vessel. Still not thrilled about flying but feeling much more at ease after the crash course, Armina nodded to each of her friends, letting them all know she was ready for battle.

Upon seeing how sad his teammates were acting, Turf thought of an idea that would allow them all to feel the love of their companions at the same time as giving them extra firepower for the impending battle. He pulled out a tome from his pack and consulted it. Finding what he was looking for, he smiled at his comrades and couldn’t wait to try out his plan, but not until they were airborne.

After getting seated in their ships, they were given the go ahead to take off. The group of friends had communication with one another in their helmets, as well as communication with the squad leader. This way they could communicate as they flew in formation as well as receive orders for when it was time to initiate certain tasks.

The team began to take off, rising into the air, and became speechless in concentration as they headed high into the atmosphere. Turf was oddly at ease inside his ship, he wasn’t entirely sure why but had an inkling that it had something to do with how he was feeling about Fern. Upon seeing the large Death Dragon ship and the other smaller ships before them, they became aware of the seriousness of the situation at hand. Armina was just about to speak to the others when the satyr's soothing voice met her ears.

“I know we only met just recently, but I feel like I have come to know you all so well,” Turf began to say, “I only wish Max could be here too, but the Border Fever really hit him hard… anyways, I want you all to know how much I have come to care for you.”

When Turf's voice came over the communicator Fern had to fight off more tears, clearing her throat after he'd finished, "Thank you Turf... Honestly, I don't know how we could have managed this adventure without you... without all of you. I love you all, and..." Fern could be heard cursing as her voice wavered, "Just be careful everyone, please..."

"Know that I love you all, but we don't have time to get distracted by all this sappy talk, let's take out the Unseelie and get back on land where we belong," Ravensong told her friends.

Armina tried to listen but all of this mushy talk was starting to turn her stomach. Inside she felt very much the same as the others, but she would never admit it. “Are we ready yet,” she questioned the others.

“Armina’s right, we need to get moving, but first I have a little surprise that I hope you all like,” answered Turf and then he began to chant in his native tongue, leaving the channel open with his friends so they could hear him as well. As he chanted, each one of his friends began to understand what he was saying as if by magic, “I humbly do summon the spirits of my comrades… the Wise Owl, the Noble Winged Cat, the Proud Dragon, and the Playful Sprite…” As they understood what he said, the hairs on their arms began to stand up and visions of their companions danced in their thoughts. Feeling the love of their companions, the spirits answered the call. From within each of the friends a great spirit arose from them in a spectacular array of lights and sounds.

The spirits of the companions then combined with the TIE-fighters, shaping them into a vague image of each companion. Fern’s ship became the visage of a great owl, Ravensong’s ship was that of a winged cat, Armina’s ship became a great dragon-shaped vessel, and lastly Turf’s ship became a beautiful mechanical looking sprite equipped with elegant wings.

“What the.... what did you....?” the warrior was stunned as her TIE-fighter began to transform. “I know this was you Tur....” Armina’s voice trailed off again as she realized what an amazing vessel her ship had become. The warrior was very close to her dragon friends and now she was one; or at least she felt like one. Any inhibitions she had about the ending to this grand adventure were suddenly swept away by shear excitement. “You are amazing Mage!” she shouted.

“It worked,” shouted Turf, “It really worked!” Each of them now had the powers of their companions at their fingertips. Ravensong gasped softly in surprise, able to be heard through their communication channel, as her ship reshaped itself to resemble her cat.

The first item on their battle plan was to assist the destruction of the Poison Array, Turf called them to action, “Break formation and Target the smaller ships as the other Protectors take out the Poison Array.” The mouth of the great Death Dragon opened wide and jettisoned forth a poison mist that the TIE-fighters had to navigate around. One hit and it would leave them sick as a dog, much like the Border Fever.

Turf’s ship was gleaming with a purple hue as the wings spread out and fluttered forward, causing an array of “pixie” dust to engulf the smaller enemy ships. The dust caused the ships to malfunction and spin out of control. One of them hurled towards the other enemy ships, narrowly missing one of the other Protectors flying by. It bumped into another enemy ship, causing them both to spin out of control until they crashed.

The air around Ravensong was filled with Kabe's presence, her ship moved through the air in great leaps and bounds, pouncing on enemy ships and jumping away before a counterattack could be made.

Fern marveled at the way Ravensong's ship bounded through the air. Turf's magic was truly impressive. The resemblance to Kabe was uncanny! Fern felt that it must be thanks to the great owl's spirit that her own ship soared so gracefully through the sky and she dove towards her next foe, incapacitating the enemy's ship with a swift blast from her laser cannons.

Careful not to become over confident but surrounded by a sense of being one with her dragon craft Armina fought the small battle ships courageously, using her massive wings to dodge oncoming ships and pretending the laser cannons were actual bursts of fire sent forth from the dragon’s mouth. She grew more eager every time she watched one of those meddlesome ships turn into a fireball as they fell one by one out of the sky.

“We did it, the Poison Array has been destroyed,” shouted Turf as the mouth of the great dragon ship was left in disarray, “Great work everyone!” As he praised his team’s work, the Death Dragon moved its hind quarters, revealing its docking bay and unleashed another large group of smaller ships.

Fern knew that she couldn't allow herself to hold back and so she wasted no time in taking aim on one of the smaller ships. Maneuvering her ship closer, Fern lined up the crosshairs before unleashing a powerful blast onto the enemy, looking away from the scene as the ship was sent hurtling downwards.

She was suddenly shaken as one of the Unseelie opened fire on her ship and she quickly swerved out of its line of fire, calling for one of her comrades to assist her.

"Armina, behind you!" Ravensong shouted into the com as she tried to get close to the warrior's Dragon TIE-fighter, swerving suddenly when she heard Fern's call to rush to her aid, taking a swipe at the ship that was attacking with a swipe of a laser 'paw'. Smiling with an audible sigh of relief as the Unseelie ship spun away out of control.

Thankful once again for the love of her fellow Foggiest Notions, and for the warning she was given, the warrior swung the mighty tail of her ship first to the right and then to the left smashing both of the enemy ships to pieces.

Fighting off the smaller ships left the Foggiest Notions exhausted, Turf especially after using much of his energy to summon the great spirits to help his team. It was definitely worth it though, the spirits gave his team a great boost in morale. He thought of his companion sprite Frink and it warmed his soul to know he was fighting the Unseelie in a vessel that was him in spirit.

With the battle raging on around them, the comrades were then informed as to the next task, “It’s time to take out the Control System Center of the Death Dragon; this will knock out radar, computers, targeting systems and… life support,” Turf informed his friends. This left some of them feeling a bit at odds with their way of life, including Turf. Taking the lives of so many was not something they were accustomed to doing.

Turf could feel the tension among his comrades, so he said, “Don’t fret over the lives of the Unseelie, I know they are living creatures but they have no regard for anyone or anything especially life itself. They will stop at nothing to take what they believe to be their right. Just know that you are saving the lives of countless people as well as creatures and animals, know that you are doing what is just and good. Know that you are a Protector, we all are, and we will protect what is precious to us!”

Turf's words of encouragement filled Fern with renewed motivation. He was right, as protectors they must do what needs to be done. "Sister, when this is all over I hope that you'll share with us a song in celebration."

"When this is over luv, I'll sing as many songs as you'd like." she answered Fern as Ravensong took out two more of the enemy ships.

“I for one will not miss not one single Unseelie”, Armina said. Being a warrior from a war-torn land, death was a part of life so she was not as sensitive to the taking of lives as the others were.

Now it was time to finish this, “Let’s fly team,” shouted Turf as they took formation and flew off to take out the remaining smaller ships. They kept the smaller ships from targeting the Flamefly class ships, allowing them to take out the Control System. With this they

[spoiler=The final Battle for the Reavers] When Larianne jumped up, exclaiming that she saw a dust cloud and thought the companions might have returned, Ilaera quickly looked up in the sky to find a sign of her beloved friend. At first she saw nothing and already started to believe Larianne must have been wrong, when suddenly she saw a small dot in the sky. That was all the could make of it at the moment. As the dot moved closer and closer, she started to make out that it was really two somethings, not just the one it looked to be farther off. Eventually she could tell it was Faeri, and Potch flying beside her. Their wings flapping in tandem, both side by side as they flew.

Ilaera just stood there, unsure what to do next, until she realized she wanted to get the attention of the bird, so she whistled. In the air, she could see that Phaeri had heard her as the bird started to look for her. At the moment Phaeri spotted her friend below, she quickly flew down and landed on top of Ilaera’s shoulder.

“Welcome back sweetie” Ilaera said affectionately to her feathered friend, patting her between the wings on her back. The bird rubbed her head towards Ilaera’s cheek, letting her know that she was missed too. “I never want to go anywhere without you ever again” she told the bird.

Esme was pleased to see Nighteyes coming towards her in his usual gait. As soon as he got close she couldn’t help but pick him up, much to his disdain, but she didn’t care about that. As soon as she started rubbing him, he relaxed in her arms and enjoyed the attention. “Welcome back” she said to him. Hopefully it would be a long time before they would ever be apart again.

Venus heard all of the commotion of the companions coming back. She was so anxious to see her little buddy Bruce. She just wanted to dote and spoil him and make sure that he would be ok.

A few seconds later, which felt like an eternity to Venus, she spots her companion Bruce and runs to him. She picks him up, does a quick once over to make sure he is ok and places a million kisses on top of his little head.

“Oh my little Bruce. You were so brave, I can't wait to hear about your adventure.” Venus says to her eight legged best friend.

When everyone seemed to follow Larianne, Sashi stood up and with her eyes scanning she began to look for her Lorne. Trying to spot her faithful friend, she drops to her knees with her arms wide open. Her voice cracking a bit as she doesn’t see him. Suddenly the girl feels a cold wet nose on the back of her neck and she knows it is her companion coming back to her.

Spinning around and grabbing the fox in her arms the warrior pins him in a massive hug. Softly she speaks to him “I knew you would come back to me! I was worried but I knew we had to do our missions. I am so very glad you are back, I love you my friend!”.

Sashi hugs her fox tight as she stands back up holding him in her arms, placing a kiss on his nose before she loosens her grip. Lorne snuggles into her neck with his nose, making the girl let a small giggle escape.

Jettison had been leaning against a light post, smoking as he usually was, while at the same time fiddling with his pocket knife. It looked to be a switch blade, unlike his usual butterfly knife. The man was humming to himself, using the object to pick any dirt from his nails. It made him crazy to have it show so obviously that he hadnt had a chance to clean them recently.

When Phaeri left his side, Potch flew around for a moment to watch the others return to their owners. He could tell where Jettison was just due to the cloud of smoke wafting upwards, but didnt bother to go to him just yet. The little avian fellow wanted to play a little prank.

He made a quick maneuver to dart behind his owner, landing on a branch just above the mans head. Potch fluffed himself up, trying to be quiet as possible before saying "JETTISON!" loudly as he possibly could.

Not expecting his greeting from the raven to be so...cheeky, he had still been busy with the knife and his finger nails. So when the loud screech rattled in his ears he almost dropped the blade. Thankfully he caught himself before that could happen, and even though he knew that voice his reflexes kicked in. He spun around and held the sharp piece of metal up right where the sound had come from, ready to throw it right in to his pets throat.

Potch laughed his little birdy laugh and hopped around, the startled look on Jettisons face giving him immense pleasure.

Jetty snarled, pressing the little button on the handle which made the knife drop in to its handle before shoving it in his pocket. He crossed his arms and blew out a breath of smoke from his nose, eyes glaring upward still. "Ya must think yer' th' funniest thing alive dont ya?"

Not bothering to reply, as Jett already knew what his answer would be, Potch leapt from the tree. With ease he took his usual spot on the Brits mostly shaven scalp, twisting around a few times to find the perfect spot. Almost as if he were a dog.

"I wish th' goblin king would take ya away..." He said under his breath, deciding it best to go back to the group. They already were starting to regroup once done saying how much they missed their friends.

"RIGHT NOW" Potch chimed in, practically humming his words.

Rolling his eyes, Jett reached up and scratched right where the birds neck and back met, knowing it was his favorite spot. If only they werent so alike, he really would have an easier time just giving in and murdering the bastard.

While Ilaera was cuddling with Phaeri, she suddenly heard a unearthly sound. She was unable to place the sound at all, she had never heard anything like it. She looked aside to Phaeri and her other friends that had been greeting their companions too, to make sure that she wasn’t the only one that heard the strange noises. She saw how the others were listening too.

Ilaera looked around to see where the sounds came from, until Phaeri made a small noise and pointed her towards the air. Ilaera glanced towards the sky, only to see the greatest army she had ever laid The sight of it terrified her and left her standing in her spot, unable to move a muscle. The Unseelie army was bigger than she could have imagined it to be. She was unsure if they would be able to defeat them.

Esme heard a lot of commotion and saw how people started to run in all directions. Then she looked up to the sky and saw the Unseelie army coming closer. She understood why everyone was in panic. She started to look out for her friends among the crowd, wanting to know what the plan was.

All of a sudden Venus hears a god-awful sound. Looking over her shoulder she can’t see where it is coming from. Scanning the whole ground area, she made sure she wasnt hearing things. She notices everyone else is looking skyward. Turning her gaze upwards, she thinks her eyes are playing tricks on her. Up above is an Unseelie army. “I guess this adventure isn't over yet” she sighs.

Sashi spins around and lets the fox go as she hears a rumble or a scream, she is not sure which, it's like nothing she has ever heard before.

She starts to look around together with the others to see what is going on. A faint glimmer in the warriors eyes as she gets a glimpse of the Unseelie army that is coming forth to fight. Sashi lets out a bit of excitement knowing that there is serious battling coming up, her gaze passing over her teammates noticing they are a bit scared and worried.

The warrior calls out to her team with a steady confident voice "We got this, as we are working together as one this time. All of us as a single unit! We are gonna give these baddies a gigantic boot back to where they belong!"

Feeling a rumble below him, Jett stopped his movement. The booming sound above was actually making the ground vibrate. Just that was unsettling, let alone when he looked up and caught the army in his sights.

"Holy balls batman..." He said to himself, already feeling Potch hunker down a bit in his hair.

They sky, why did it always have to be the sky in this place. Storms, fights, now this freakish pile of evil? Why couldnt it ever be on the ground. He loved to be up in the clouds so much, and this took all the desire for it away. The creature huffed and buried his face in the ginger tufts on his friends head. Not even wanting to see what may come next.

Jett felt for him, it would be as if water covered every inch of land. He would have no more desire to reside there. Having the sky taken was likely a similar feeling for his friend. The native area you loved and felt comfort by, ripped from your grasp like a magician pulling a table cloth but leaving the dish wear.

He heard Sashi yelling that it would be ok, and even though he knew they could do it, he sure as hell wasnt excited like she seemed to be. All he could picture was the final fight scene in one of his favorite super hero movies. If robot alien hybrid looking whales came alone behind the unseelie, he was not going to be pleased.

The sight of the Unseelie army left Ilaera and her friends standing, unsure what to do next, but around them it was like chaos had started. Everyone ran around, ships were starting to head off, people were grabbing weapons. It was like every team around here had prepared for this battle a long time ago, while she and her friends were still hoping for the best. They seemed to be the only ones without a plan.

“I suppose we should have had a plan for this long ago” she sighed, looking at the sky where the army was getting closer every second.

Venus looked towards Ilaera and was wondering if she had any idea what to do, but by the look on her face it didn’t seem like she did. After she heard what Ilaera said, she was sure that the other girl didn’t have a plan.

“Well I guess we better get a plan, and fast!” Venus says to the group.

Still watching as panic set in for so many around them, a few groups were quick to get in their ships. It reminded him they did have to do something, standing around lead to nothing good for them or the other beings on this planet.

"Hold on ya' lil bugger." He said, darting through the crowd and to the newly revamped turtle ship.

Once he had the entrance opened, he smacked a button on the wall, which brought all the lights on. Hopefully the rest of his friends would notice with just that, but to be sure he yelled "GET IN!" not sure if they could hear him over the rest of the sounds.

Esme spotted her friends among the crowd, and heard Jett yell to get to the vessel. Seeing how the others in her group were headed to the ship she picked up Nighteyes and ran, trying to avoid bumping into everyone else.

Venus hears Jett yell at everyone to get to the turtle and runs to it fast as she can, the others close behind. “Let's get this bird up in the air” Venus yells, her friend Bruce clinging tightly to her arm as they darted through the mass of people.

Sashi was hoping that her friends heard her with all the commotion going on. It seemed to be flat out chaos as everyone started to grab up companions or yell for them at the same instant their feet started moving. Sashi yells out for Lorne to stay by her side no matter what! "We should head to our ship" the warrior says, in full agreement with Jett.

Finally inside, Esme walks over to the others, wondering what the plan of attack would be.

Ilaera heard Jett exclaiming they had to go to the ship too. She noticed how her friends started to run and before she realized it, she was the last standing there outside in this mess.

Quickly Sashi's fingers tap Lorne on the head as she takes off towards the ship, glancing around the large group of now scattered people, trying to spot all of her friends. From the ships entrance Sashi turns to look out at everyone scurrying around, her gaze hard as she stares out. Making sure all of her team is aboard the ship. The warrior spots Ilaera and yells to her "Hey Ranger snap out of it and come on! Phaeri wake her girl, there is danger out there!"

As Phaeri made a small noise, it was as if Ilaera woke up from her trance and she started to run towards their ship too, Phaeri flying right above her.

When she entered the ship, she noticed that Venus, Esme and Sashi were standing in the doorway to where the steering cabin was. When she heard how the engines of the ship started to work, she realized that Jett must be the one behind the steering wheel, which was good as he was the only one that was able to fly with the thing. She could hear them talk to each other, so she quickly walked towards them, to see what they were planning to do.

He knew time was of the essence, and wasnt sure just how long it took for this new setup to boot up and get them in the air. So he made his way in to the control room.

Sure he helped fix it up, but before Zeph was hurt she had done the brunt of the work. He wasnt as tech savvy as the girl. The huge three part control panel lit up like Christmas morning, lights flashing and words running across the control screen which hung on the window right in front of him. Every bit of the panel was iridescent, giving him a way to still see through the pieces of re-enforced glass, so he could tell where he was going.

It seemed like with what they had done to change the ship was working so far, though as much as he trusted the Vagabonds engineering skills paired with Venus' knowledge of vehicles, the man was still wary. Not wanting to over do it and kill the engine.

He looked back to make sure everyone was inside before take off, then pressed the manual door lock. It would take a minute or so to get full lift, or at least, thats what the screen said. So he took a second to figure out what to do. It may be best before writing out a big idea of how to hit the Unseelie, to get a closer look at just what they were up against. Who knew if they were even worse up close, or had other weaponry and ships hidden.

"I wana' get up ta' be near their forces before we decide what ta' do!" Jettison yelled, hoping all would hear him.

As he did, Potch peeked out from under the hair, finally feeling comfortable. Though the idea of flying right in to the hand of evil wasnt really a fun thought. Still, at least they were protected inside this new and improved turtle ship.

From out of the doorway Ilaera could hear Jett telling the others that he wanted to go up as quickly as they could, then off to the army to see what they would be up against. He wanted to wait with an actual plan, wanted to see the army first. Since the others agreed with him, Ilaera just nodded too, she hadn’t heard the whole thing, but enough to be able to have an opinion about his idea. It seemed wise to wait with a plan of action.

Venus heard bits and pieces of the what he and the others said, she was just more concerned about how they were going to defeat this huge army and what she could do to help.

Now that her team was all together on the ship the warrior listened to what Jett was saying with extreme intensity. Nodding in agreement on the plan of action and getting in the air quickly, she replied with a simple "Yeah I agree." knowing that if they got too focused on what they thought was best to do, they could miss the bigger picture.

She felt the engines make the ship vibrate a little bit as they started up and began to reach full speed.

[color=gold]Ilaera feels how the ship comes off the ground and it gets turned in the direction of the Unseelie army ahead of them. She looks out of one of the windows and sees a large ship coming towards them.

“That ship ain’t too scary” she says to Phaeri who is sitting on one of the beams close to her. “You’d best stay in though, as I don’t trust that cloud of smoke that’s surrounding i

Raider's Folly Chapter 10: post 1 of 13 13 posts, lol we so aren't pithy any more :D
Quote by Paddy
I stared at the craft in disbelief. Sure, I might know my way around some forms of transport, but they were all land based - I&;d never even set paw in a helicopter, let alone controlled a craft like this before! Suddenly, we caught sight of Mauve and the Lavenders heading our way. When they suggested they were our pilots, I couldn&;t believe our luck; we wouldn&;t have to try and figure out the controls for ourselves, and could concentrate on doing our best in the battle. Scanning my eyes over the craft, wondered if there was a less technological weapon that we could fix to Raven&;s craft. She enjoyed battles a lot more than me, but I had a feeling she&;d feel happier with a set of knives than a gun.
There was a distinct lack of weapon parts, but I did spot some harnesses lying in the corner, which looked promising. "I seriously haven&;t a clue with a craft like this," I said, looking at the band, "but do you think these harnesses would work to strap onto the wings, so we can attack them the way we know best, while you do the driving?"

Quote by Die
Die could ride a motorcycle like a pro but piloting a plane? Ha. Not in this life- maybe the next if he died during this little stunt. He didn’t own Raven but there was no way he was going to let her up in the air when- oh. It seemed the band members were going to be helping them. “Just fantastic,” he muttered, eying the band leader as he made a beeline for his girlfriend. Before he could make comment he was suddenly faced with a rather pretty looking male whom he thought was female at first; must have been the lavender skin tone and slightly pointed ears. Were those even real?

“You’re with me. Let’s get you hooked up and ready to go!”

The alchemist frowned but he was not about to argue. He caught a glimpse of Raven running back toward the inn and yelled after her. “Get the slingshot too!” He was pretty sure she was going after her bow and arrows. Then he faced the man that had not offered him a name. “All right. But I need to get myself ready too. I’ll be over in a minute.” Setting his bag down and a smaller pouch he began to pull out various sized vials and odd looking stones.

Quote by Paddy
I hadn&;t ever made a wing-walking harness before let alone 4, but with Mauve&;s help we had them attached to the craft. I looked around at the others, and spotted Raven running back in, carrying her bow and arrows. "Darn, that reminds me, has anyone got a weapon I could borrow?" I rummaged in my bag for a few seconds, before pulling out some long thin wooden dowels. "Or maybe a bow I could fire these arrows from?"

Quote by Raven
There was no way I could fly a ship like that. I could fly a sailing ship because they were basically the same as ones on water, but I just didn’t know how to use one like that at all. I gave Die a questioning look, fairly sure he would not be happy about the idea of me trying to use a craft in the air that I was not sure how to use. I didn’t blame him for the thought either. Hell I was worried about me too. I mean, I already crashed a motorbike. Hard to argue with his concern when I had proven it was warranted. Then suddenly our problems were solved. Mauve came right up to me, beaming—looks like he decided to be my pilot. Months ago, I would not have been happy at all about letting a male do this and then add in a young human male and well I would have been vehemently protesting. However, I was letting my gender prejudice go and he seemed confident. Plus I looked over at Paddy who was mentioning fashioning some sort of harness onto the ships. Excellent, no modern weapons for me. “One moment,” I said taking off at a fast run back to the inn. I took my swords off my back and replaced it with my bow and arrows in their quiver. Then I took my little pouch of weapons and strapped it to my waist. I grabbed my spare folding up bow just in case. After acquiring the slingshot Die asked for, I closed the door with Jhun and Eolus running around the room. Those two were gonna trash the place. With that done, I ran back—not at all winded arrived to see the harnesses were finished. We were ready. I handed Die his slingshot with a smile. “Aren’t you glad I taught you how to use this thing, wouldn’t do to slap yourself in the face with the slingshot now, huh?” I teased. Giving him a quick hug I murmured, “watch your ass,” and gave it a quick pat.

Then I handed Paddy the folding bow, “Here, use this my friend. I thought a spare bow would come in handy.” Then I dug into my bag and pulled out a boomerang that I had fashioned. It was metal, with razor sharp edges all around. There was a leather strap around one part to grab onto it. I pulled out some thick gloves and handed the boomerang and gloves to Paddy. “The gloves are magically enhanced to protect you from getting cut. But take care not to chop your arm off with it, I am not sure we can regrow limbs.” I winked at her when I said it—I would never give her weapons I didn’t think she could handle. I saw the way she had caught the arrow in our chariot, she would be well adapt for the boomerang.

Quote by Paddy
I stared at the folding bow for a while, before realising Raven had a second weapon. The glint of metal caught my eye as she drew the most intricate and lethal boomerang from her pack. Pulling on the gloves, I held the boomerang gingerly. It was perfectly balanced, and I knew I would stand a good chance of catching it again. If only we weren&;t going to be goodness knows how high off the ground at the time. I&;d been trying hard to not think about it, but I had to help the team out, even if it meant strapping myself to one of the harnesses. I was positive the harness was secure, but it&;d be so much nicer to battle on the ground!

Raider's Folly Chapter 10: post 2 of 13

Quote by Die
Die had a good supply of ‘weapons’ which he put into the smaller pouch and tied to the belt at his waist. He was just finishing when Raven returned and he found himself in a hug that did not do much to ease his tension. “You watch yours too or I will be angry,” he murmured, watching after her before his attention was taken by his pilot. It was time to go.

Climbing onto the wing he allowed Lav (the man’s nickname) to harness him in and put the headset on, his heart racing as adrenaline pumped through his system. The little stone was a surprise but any protection was welcomed. “Stay steady ladies!” Grey eyes moved over each of his friends, shadowed slightly with concern. Whether he admitted it or not and despite any issues they might have- this was his family. Then all thoughts of that ceased as the engines started. He could thank Raven for his sense of balance as he shifted, crouching low as the small plane took off, the slingshot clenched tightly in his fist.

Quote by Paddy
I looked up at the sky, and noticed the other craft flying over. They looked like small flies, they were so high off the ground. gulp High? .... off the ground?
Wondering what the best way would be to avoid flying altogether, one of the Lavenders grabbed me by the paw and dragged me over to their craft. Ok, maybe the drawing of a full moon on the side of it was a sign (although I wasn&;t too sure if it was good or bad), but there was something about the band member&;s hunky rippling muscles that made me stop in my tracks. He wasn&;t just muscular, he was totally ripped; and there I was, behaving like a scared pussycat. Taking a deep breath, I strapped myself into the harness as Hans took the controls of the craft. As long as I didn&;t look down, I&;d be fine.... or at least that&;s what I needed to convince myself.

Quote by Raven
I deftly climbed onto the ship and had a look at the harness. It was strange. I strapped my feet into the thing, but it looked like it was welded in place so I would not be in danger of falling off the ship. At least it wasn’t going to inhibit my movement at all. Mauve handed me a headset so I could talk with him over the communications devices and a small crystal which he told me to squeeze. When I did, a purple shimmer wrapped around my body and then faded. A magical force field—yay no poisoning problems. I watched as the others shimmered for a moment and then likewise looked like normal. Briefly, I wondered how Paddy would feel about flying so high to the ship but I was not about to express such things—no need to add to the tension. The whirl of the engine told me that we were ready to alight. We were the first squadron and had others willing to watch our flank and offer support. Was I nervous at having to depend on so many others? A little, yes. It didn’t help hearing a soft whimper over the radio. Guess that was Paddy realising what we were about to do.

Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?

Raider's Folly Chapter 10: post 3 of 13
Quote by Reaper
“You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me,” I grumbled as I saw Paddy and Raven playing with harnesses and talking about strapping ourselves to the wings of the fighters. To the outside of the wings. Outside of them. OUTSIDE. What in the hell was wrong with the members of my team? I allowed myself one shudder before straightening my spine and heading over to one a pilot – band member? – pilot. We had done a lot of stupid things in our time, but this might well prove to be the absolute dumbest idea we’d ever had. I cleared my throat and grabbed up a series of belts, at least it would match my outfit, seven hells this was going to be awful. The pilot launched himself into the ship with a cocky wink – someone save me from men used to groupies please- and started the engine. I clambered up onto the wing, barely managing not to lose my staff in the process. I carefully stood once I was all the way up, legs trembling a bit, and shifted towards the middle of the wing and finding small rings that I could hook the harness ends into. Oh goodie, enough room to move, but not enough to fall off the side…probably. Once I was secured I nodded to the pilot, feeling the engine ratchet up a notch and the wing begin to shudder beneath me. Honestly what the hell had we agreed to here? Just as I was starting to draw up my magic to infuse four force-fields, an obnoxious yell rent the air. “YOU WILL NOT LEAVE ME BEHIND TO FACE THE DOOM OF THE SKIES – NOTHING SHALL CHALLENGE THE MIGHT OF THE TINY MAN!”

“Oh god no please, seriously,” I muttered quick and low under my breath as the tiny clay and mercury golem came flying through the air to land on the wing next to me. My shoulders slumped, head falling forward, as I felt him grab onto the edge of my pants and climb me like I was his own personal crow’s nest. “What are you even doing here? What do you think you can do to help exactly?” I turned my head and addressed the golem, tone completely dry.

“Tiny man has come to help – you gave me life, I’m bound to protect you,” for the first time ever, his voice wasn’t a yell. He blinked his curious dark eyes at me before settling on my shoulder and pulling something that looked like a miniature slingshot out of a small bag he must have stolen from somewhere – round metal objects rattling around inside it. My lips twitched in a half-smile and I turned back to face forward, pulling magic through the air around me to build force-fields around my team. I felt a power already hovering over the others and before my confusion could really take root, the attractive fellow piloting the ship leaned out and tossed a crystal at me, “Forgot you might need that,” he winked as I caught the stone and felt a shimmer of protection rise up around me and the golem. I nodded my thanks at him and glanced to see the rest of my team take off from the ground to join all of the others in the air, heading for the great ship.

Quote by Paddy
We took off faster than I&;d expected. We were moving towards the dragon craft so quickly that I didn&;t really have time to think. I drew the boomerang, whimpering slightly as I caught my claws with the blade. Thankfully it just gave me a mini manicure, but I pulled the gloves on just to be on the safe side; if the boomerang wa sharp enough to trim my claws, I definitely needed gloves on to catch the thing!

The other craft were doing a fine job, but we were focussed on trying to get to the dragon craft itself. I was relieved to have the magical force field as protection, as we dodged the fire coming from the enemy ships. Flinging the boomerang as hard as I could, it soared off towards the nearest ship, cutting the metal in half, before swooping back towards me. I caught it with the tips of my claws just as we dived to the right to avoid another attack. This battling lark was becoming strangely enjoyable, especially with my new toy.... er I mean weapon. Flinging the boomerang off to the right, it narrowly missed Raven&;s barrel-rolling craft, the boomerang soaring further, before turning and slicing the roof off another enemy craft as it returned. My aim wasn&;t quite as good this time, and I ducked as the boomerang approached. I might be a good catch, but I wasn&;t going to risk decapitation by my own weapon!
