I've been craving thinking about more pet related features on Subeta. I know there's a lot going on behind the scenes now and a lot of things that need fixing before we add another feature. Keeping that in mind it would be cool to brainstorm on something like this.

Idea: Have a "favorite pets" page where users can add any pet on-site owned by other users to their "favorites" kind of like a bookmark to certain pets' profiles. This page can have the pet's site art or custom overlay, their name, owner, a link to thier profile, and a remove option. This will let us keep track of our favorite pets, inspirational pets, or pets we want to check back on casually as they progress. It would also be cool to make this page available to the public and let other users see your favorite pets pages, making it easier for users to discover new pets, and add some more interactivity to the pet aspect of the site. Basic stuff like sorting/ordering/simple categories might be nice, idk.

Things I'm not sure about:

Should it be possible to see who has added your pet to their favorites? Should it be possible to see how many favorites your pet has gotten? I imagine this number having 0 effect on any other part of the site, so it shouldn't matter too much if people could see the number? We could maybe toggle on or off if we don't want to see the number, or the # can be available but if we want to see who, it can be a gold account feature.

What should the limit to favorites be? I figure as long as there's a remove option we could keep it relatively low, like between 20 and 50. I figure it'd be a similar system as wishlists so it can't be unlimited. But it'd be nice to know you have a reasonable amount of space so we can enjoy a good number of pets on our favorites page. If there needs to be a deterrent of adding too many pets, maybe after 50 there can be an increasing sP cost a little like user shops have, starting at 10k or so and going up by another 10k.

I like this idea, support from me. (: I'd probably use this if this gets done in the future, mainly for Treasure inspiration or looking for progress. And of course because there are certain Pets that I just adore so much that a short way to look at them would be great. <3

20 Pets as limit sounds nice I think.

You can just save these things in a notepad on your computer. Or use the notepad widget on the sidebar.

I do that now! I think it would be much nicer to have it integrated into the site somehow 1) to promote a sense of community amongst pet lovers that the pet spotlight doesn't cultivate currently (and in the event that the spotlight gets revamped in a more helpful way, it would give us something on-site you can actively participate in in addition to the spotlight or after winning the pet spotlight) and 2) to make it more practical keeping track of name changes, color and owner swaps (I imagine this feature will keep track of pets by ID).

Maybe that's just me? Personally it's a pain in the patoot to update the site's notepad widget regularly, and then it's not as cool as knowing X many people like your pet enough to "bookmark" it, or that it has X number of favorites, etc. Though I'm sure I'll still have notes and links to pets saved in addition to a Favorite Pets page. But a chance at adding to the pet community here on the actual site is enticing. More pet things, more more!

True! It doesn't keep track of anything though, for the person who clicked. And on many pet profiles it's obscured by coding. It would be neat you can have a page to type in the name of the pet somewhere to have it saved. Though I think pet likes would be more popular if you could favorite pets as well.

I would love to see something like this. I often bump into pets where i think: oh yes that tc, or the way they ordered things, or because i love their story, etc etc. And I would love to be able to keep track of them on site. It can be tied to the heart function we have?

This is a great idea, I come across pets and some with profiles that I like all the time and would just love to be able to save them all and go look at their profiles all the time. Unfortunately my memory is bad and I forget half their names as it is lol so this would be incredibly helpful.

I like that idea, even if it's just another way to click the heart besides profiles. Ranking them by pet ♥s might be nice too. Maybe also a link to nominate for spotlight if it's toggled on, I guess? It wouldn't take up too much room if they're both icons (heart and trophy?)

I like this idea! It'd be a good way for users to encourage each other to work on pets, help out in giving advice to make a pet look even better, or for TC suggestions. Or to just say, "Hey I like your pet!"

Helps out pet lovers, artists, writers, profile-makers, etc. Can't beat that!

I've been looking over pets a loooot since it's been easier for people to leash them, and it's made me think 20 might be a slightly low limit for the some of us who might be a little obsessed with pets. :P

However, it would be easy to pick one pet from one user and use it as a representation of that users pets, which prompts me to want a little notation area, maybe like 100 characters we can add to each pet as a personal note for why we like them: "all of this users pets" "overlay, good story" "tc examples for my baking pet" "look at that art!!!" "deaf & blind character"

Ehh, I can't say I'm overly fond of the idea. It's not a bad idea by any means, but it can just as easily be done by taking two whole seconds to make a folder on your computer, adding a pet onto that list, and editing the title. Some people may benefit from it, and that's great, but personally I can't see myself benefiting from it, nor many (if any) of my friends that take a great deal of interest in pets.

I'm already not too keen on the like/heart aspect of pets anyways; if someone really likes my pet, they're going to message me and not anonymously 'like' it. One thing is actually personal and kind of nice nice, the other is more of a passive glance (that, frankly, I sometimes find a bit creepy) that doesn't really amount to much... And it wouldn't really motivate me to work on my pets at all, if I have to be honest.

The idea of my pets also gaining more traffic, if people are able to view eachothers lists, isn't really appealing to me anyways - I'm sure my pets get enough traffic already, and personally I try to ignore that as much as possible so I can work on them at my own pace.

I just don't see this having very much productivity to warrant the feature. Honestly I'd prefer an optional database where people can submit their pets with tags for people to find pets and their stories that may interest them (that can be edited and removed whenever they like) or if they changed it so you would have a history of pets you've 'liked'

Honestly the "just keep a list of favorite pets" suggestion is meh to me because why not have that on site if it's beneficial to connecting pet-interested players to pets and other players? The site needs more pet features and it would be cool to keep track of pets you enjoy in a way that others can also interact with. Kinda like favorites on DeviantArt.

And an optional database would be hella rad, but isn't that also a thing that would benefit from a "favorites" option? Even if it's like adding a star and you can access your starred pet on another page (like how forum subscriptions work). Same benefits still apply.

There could easily be an option to toggle off favorites on your pets if you don't want them. It's not crucial that everyone would be involved and using it, just like the pet spotlight, and it's less of a dead end than the hearts system that's in place now.
