I get hints of a segregation between battle pets and active pets. Can my active not be my battle pet at the same time or I would have to constantly switch them out? Are there colour/species-changing things in battle such as I would not want to use my favourite pet for battle /COUGHNEOCOUGH? I am still reading the BC guide(thread and BC both) but these aren't currently clear.
Basically I intend to use just one pet for everything; are there circumstances that would inhibit, detriment or make that difficult?
doing everything with one pet is easier, you can focus on reading to them, which helps build up your AP. active pets receive stats from the oracle, random events and scratchcards. there aren't any species or color bonuses or anything.
if you have any questions, I can answer most of them probably :)
I'm still just off the Neo mentality so most of my habits are hardwired to their events XD So there is indeed no downside to keeping one pet for everything like getting random zaps, statdowns and such?
Er, what about our inventories? Is there a point to putting things in the vault to protect them from any item-destroying events (besides that one zapping thing I read that is controlled by us at least)? Can I just leave thousands of items in my invo and wade through them to get what I want? Because the influx of items as opposed to Neo is staggering, and I try not to stock the cheaper items so all that's left is donating/deleting/fragmenting them; I don't know what else to do D:
I never use the zapper thingy here. I think it can give negative stats though, but no other things do (other than certain stat boosters)
inventories are safe from REs, zapping again can kill items.
uhh I think you won't be able to buy from user shops if you have a ton in your inventory. other than that I don't think there's any real downside to having a bunch there
Ah, so I'll know when it's too much :D Thanks!
Er... regarding creating forum topics; if I have new questions do I change the title and OP of an old topic, or do I always lock topics once I'm done with them and make new ones with new questions? I feel like the latter is spammy. In which forums are they appropriate? For instance almost all topics in art auctions are locked but not in other places.
You can't lock your own topic, but if you change the name of your topic, you can get it locked. it isn't necessary for a topic like this to be locked when you're done with it.
If you do have more questions, you can probably make another thread without it becoming spam.
I think in art auctions you cannot have two threads open at one time, but I'd have to read the rules for that forum, I never go there.
if you do have any questions (especially battle related) you can always just comment me, I can at least point you in the right direction if you don't want to keep making threads.
all of my pets are battlepets. It's helpful to me to have one pet be the eater pet and that my eater pet not be my strongest pet because you can't battle if your pet is hungry. If I need to fight with everyone when there's a big boss battle (think when the Oracle skirmishes were in Neo) I have enough time to feed up my eaterpet or put him in the resort for a few days.
There totally ARE bonuses based on species and color, the Battle Admins have told us that that is so. You will still find folks in the Battle Chat who disagree still so...? But the bonuses, they're small. The [item2=mighty kora gauntlet] is one that I have personally tested, it does and extra 1/2 thief tear plus 1/2 critical tear if you wield it with a Kora.
If you're doing Major Drills (and this is a good source of nice sellable items and also a good intro to how the site works) you will also need a pet without a minion who is also not in an Inn or Resort to play with toys. Unhappy pets cannot battle either so your toy destructor pet will have to be someone other than your main pet.
I'm a massive hoarder and your Inventory will start to fail if you put more than 300 items in it. You can get a 250 limit if you are a GA, and this works fine most of the time. The system's buffer may make massive delays or you may lose your items, getting near certainty if you go higher than 500 IME.
Starting new threads is perfectly fine as long as you follow the rules for the forum you're in. Always look at the stickied threads for each forum and make sure you follow any extra Rules. Here in Help & Questions it's helpful to us who hang out here if you start up a separate topic for each issue.
Finally Neopets hides their Rules. Subeta does not. At the bottom of each and every page here there is a tiny link. You only get one account here.
Oh, I was talking more about things like chia/kacheek flour that would alter your active pet's colour and species, or random lab rays that change and mutate your pet or take stats away. I'm not too particular on the stat bonuses of different species. I guess I wasn't particularly clear in OP XD
I'm not sure I follow on the food and toy thing. If you say hungry and unhappy pets cannot battle, then why would I feed and use toys on a pet that ISN'T going to be my battle pet? Wouldn't I want to feed and play with my pet for that exact reason; so that I can battle it?
Specifically these; "Unhappy pets cannot battle either so your toy destructor pet will have to be someone other than your main pet" "have one pet be the eater pet and that my eater pet not be my strongest pet because you can't battle if your pet is hungry"
To clarify, I was only ever going to have one pet. He gets all the books, toys, food, perks, etc. and being the sole pet would naturally be my main and active and battler all at once. My question was if that would 'break the game' so to speak, make it difficult to play or manage some aspects of the site?
pets don't really lose happiness if they have a minion, so that one quest is annoying when he asks for you to play with a specific toy with a pet. but really it's useless. wasn't aware of the kora gauntlet, but it's not a common weapon and it's not even relevant, there aren't any good bonuses for having a certain species or color. there's nothing in battling that will alter your pet's color or species, don't worry about that. if you want to feed to a pet, you shouldn't keep them in the resort (neolodge), but if you don't care about the food collection, just stick them in the resort in veta. reading to one pet is fine, it allows for higher AP which allows you to equip more scrolls. a lot of people like having more pets for things, but you only need one solid pet to battle. sure having more pets that battle can get you more 5th win loot, but it's probably better to focus on one pet for now, and if you want other pets, to slowly train them just in the center.
There doesn't seem to be like a perk or mention or spotlight of sorts for minions, not even an age. I guess if I needed to do a quest like that I could remove my minion? That's bollocks though that you can't continuously play with your pet considering there is no upside to it, there isn't a scoreboard or a 'list of toys played with', and the toys are consumables. Not to mention if you have that quest in the system, it should just allow for an infinite amount of toys to be used, methinks XD "You can't play with your pet right now because it is too happy" It's ridiculous.
I suppose I'll be missing out on 5th win items, but I'll try not to covet too many things and work my way to things that I do want XD I was never too big on the dressup game in neo and even on gaia where it's all about that. Thanks again for popping in!
There is a fuck-you weapon in Subeta, but it hurts you and not your opponent and it doesn't change your species or color, it's the Malerias Clawed Glove. You'd have to go out of your way to get one, it will not fall into your lap.
If you have more than one battle pet you can get more fifth win prizes. Fifth win prizes aren't so hot for the easy opponents because anyone can get those, but for harder opponents they can be nice to have, share around, or sell. For instance I'm currently selling my extra Large Gutting Knifes which were a fifth win from a 2011 site event, for 30M a pop.
I don't consider Drills quests useless. I've gotten retired items and Subeautique items from him.
Feeding your pet 6000 unique items by hand is expensive and time consuming, as opposed to putting them in the Inn or Resort (the Subeta versions of Neolodge). People do it anyways because it's an Achievement thing. So is completing 2000 Drills quests. Some items are only easily available through Achievement prizes (otherwise you'd have to buy them at a premium cost from folks who did do them), and there are some Forum Titles that only come as Achievement prizes. If you keep your pet well fed with a minion or always in a Resort, you will not get these two sets of Achievements anywhere near so easily.
Right now there's no Achievement for playing with unique toys like there is for food, but it's a common Suggestion here and staff have moved towards implementing it by de-toy-ifying Plushies.
toys are pretty useless and I wouldn't be surprised if they're revamped one of these days. I always just skipped those quests when he asked to play with a toy o-o I'm not sure how long it takes with a minion removed to lower their happiness though.
some 5th win items can be very good, but it's usually cheaper to buy them than it is to train a pet to get them. having one pet good enough to earn them will suffice though. I mainly battle with one pet, my other pets are a lot weaker than my main one. I don't do dressup much either, I almost never change my HA o-o
That's apparently an issue I'm having where plushies are half collection and half toy, some or just toys or just collections, I can't tell which toys can be played with or are collection-only from the hover window (i could subetalodge it but doing that for every item is exhausting) And minions can apparently be eaten. I... don't know if it's because every pet can eat them or a Rreign is kind of like a Skarl or a Jetsam. I even had a book nut thing that can be both read and eaten. It's exasperating. The hover-over should just say so.
And... items in the NPC shops don't have hover windows so I can't find anything out and have to resort to subetalodge again, and clicking on any one of them instantly buys them. That's... just bad design. Am I the only one that thinks so?
collections and stuff can be confusing. there aren't species that can eat stuff though, it's a food to everyone. there are many items that are a part of multiple collections (these items can be annoying) so if you're really intent on collecting, subetalodge does provide complete lists of collections.
the clicking = instant buying is fairly new, there used to be a haggle page with captchas, then the haggles were removed, and captchas were reomved for a lot of things, then they just completely removed them. idk, makes things easier for some restockers I guess.
the plushie switchover is happening over time, because Subeta isn't a huge site with lots of staff. and are the UAs who are doing this.
Minion edibility is only for some minions, and it isn't because every pet can eat everything. It's because the site is full of ravening cannibalistic zombies. That's right every winter around Valentine's day there's an infections breakout. Once users get into the zombie mood, they then Suggest that more items on site be made edible for their pets. (Us users we can't eat anything even though we're the ones with the HAs that start to rot. Don't ask me why there's finger food and cocktails at our Masquerade, I just don't know.) It used to be that you couldn't eat anything you caught fishing in the Fishing Hole. Then for many years you couldn't eat any of the disgusting things you could catch in the Underground Spring. Eventually all of the site will be eaten entirely. :)
The hovers were never meant to be all inclusive bits of information when they were introduced. They've become more pervasive and information heavy and they slow down the site IMO, so I personally don't mind their incompleteness. I think at the time they were introduced, there was only one slot in them for Item Type. Certainly Neo doesn't hover-in-shop, nor can you tell what an item really is in their shops either. You can Suggest that multiple item types be listed if you like.
The absence of hovers in NPC shops is meant to make restocking challenging. Many users support this even those like me who constantly restock. Unlike Neopets where part of the market is invisible and restocking is dependent upon suckers to buy out the cheap stuff, Subeta doesn't do that so restocking here is easier. It still does require a learning curve like it does in Neo though. Subetalodge has a sort by rarity if you want to do some memorizing for certain shops.
The absence of a capcha or a purchase warning is because the site wishes to encourage restocking and most users found the warning off-putting. Most users here like it that way, sorry.
Not really, I don't have nearly enough commitment, capacity or discipline to collect, but having some place to dump stuff that I can't sell but don't want to throw away and yet adds to something is nice :D Until I have another method of earning sp/csc like the art board, I will probably be selling higher-value items in my shop for a short while. If I can settle into the art board, any collectible items that come my way will probably take priority as a collection item than a profit item then :)
As such, I don't intend to take this game too seriously. I know what happens everytime I do that XD I'm not going to race to compete with anyone at the top of any list, that defeats the purpose of me coming here to relax.
you will want to read if you want to battle, it helps out a lot. but other than that, collections can be very consuming. that's a good philosophy to have, a lot of people take these things too seriously and burn themselves out then end up quitting because it's too stressful.
I can't tell if your second paragraph is sarcastic : P Don't get me wrong a captcha is annoying af, but a popup confirmation I can deal with since it's a programmed response for me to spacebar after I click for those types of things XD But I can see how that would inconvenience restockers.
I'm finding half the items I buy cheaper from NPCs and the other half cheaper from user shops. And the way the prices of items fluctuate between the thousands by day and by-quest, how they list the lowest items always, and even the 'premium only autopricer' is pretty much the exact same as Nutrinopets, so I got into it easily XD Except here you seem to be able to search anything including ultra rare items.
