Creatures of the Darkfog, or Why the Unseelies Aren't Nice Guys

Bon chance, mes amis!

The small village inn near the crossroads that mark the secret path to the Wayward Squirrel has never done such a brisk business. It is literally packed full of adventurers packed and ready to answer the faerie distress call.

As the sun rises highest in the sky, the sound of a ship slowly descending outside propels them all to gather their belongings and race outside to witness the new version of the Floating Frenchman appear.

It's a magnificent rebuilding of the cursed original, reflecting the very best of Pugsy's workmanship and Lucien's ability to promote the best materials. Izzy's sloop is safety tucked into a compartment on one side, leaving room for a possible bard shuttle on the other. A full set of docking hooks have been rigged inn the aft section, and a laser fog-cutting light is prominent on the Victorious Vixen's prow.

Mes Amis! We meet again! Lucien exclaims happily as he leaps down the gangplank to greet you.

If possible, he is an even more handsome fox than he was before, perhaps because of the beautiful vixen followin him. Izzy McGuiness is everything daring and gorgeous, and one of the best of Crystania's resistance pilots. From the top of the gangplank, Lucien's fairy first mate, Gaston, waves everyone aboard.

Ah, oui! Gaston is always thinking ahead. Let us go, mes amis, before the night thickens the darkfog more!

Once you are all on board and have greeted some adventurers who joined Lucien from Squirrely's offtime saloon, you listen to the explanation of what has happened.

"Evidently," Izzy explains, "there is someone or something at the Wayward Squirrel that the Unsellie Court very much wants or needs. Who or what we don't yet know, but the darkfog creatures have been sent in force!

"However, Thorson was able to contact Mithrandir and also Hayao in Crystania. As it turns out, Crystania is closer to the Borderlands, and so our friends there were able to reach Bordertown, although it seems to have been quite a crash landing. They have now managed to combine magic, alchemy, and good old fashioned juryrigging, and have created a double triangle forcefield within protective beacons.

"The Wayward Squirrel is now spinningout of its transit path, but, if we can manuever the Frenchman close enough to attach the docking hooks, we can pull it into the protected zone, and hold it steady above Bordertown, at least for a while until we can figure out how to solve this disaster.

"I'll take the Vixen ahead, and light the way through with the laser beam. I can troubleshoot as well, and manually attach a hook if need be, although that will be a dangerous manueveer. If any of you have a small vehicle as well, you could help. I brought an extra laser floodlight."

As she finishes, Lucien and Gaston signal that all the gear is secured and you can all takeoff. Izzy waves to you and hops into the Vixen, pulling quickly out of the side compartment and taking her station ahead of the Fenchman's prow.

You steer ahead for a few hours and then you see the darkest and thickest fog directly in front of you. Izzy snaps on her laser floodlight, and in you go!

Are you Travelers? smiles Gaston? "If so we will count on you to help us attach the docking hooks and position the Wayward Squirrel safety within the protective beam field. We are counting on you!"

Adventurers, are you, mes amis? Lucien gives his signature chuckle. Then you will have to accomplish all Gaston has said, but the Unseelie will surely send their creatures to impede you. As you attach the docking hooks, I'm afraid these will besiege you!

He tosses a book to you. Catching it, you see it is a monster compendium for Unseelie creatures, and the following entry has been bookmarked:

Quote
The Wraiths of Darkfog</p>
<p>Difficult and dangerous creatures who attack in packs but bond into a whole as needed, they are! They look like clouds--the main body a thick mass in the middle--with tendrils of thick fog that whipp wickedly through the air. These tendrils have light shooting out of them--clearly these creatures are electrified. Shimmers of water can be seen as they move.</p>
<p>Their eyes appear to be two orbs of light from the main mass of their bodies. One of the creatures has what lookes like a storm starting from under the eyes. This is the leader, and the storm is its mouth, with hundreds of thick teeth turning in every direction. A bite from one of these things would surely hurt. An electrified, flying fog creature, so horrible that turning and running seems to be the only defense.

Well, isn't this a jolly homecoming!

(OOC: This is an RP challenge. All of you will have one week on this, until Friday, May 29, and 11:59 Subeta time, which is one minute before midnight. Let's hope you last that long.

Please avoid "ubering" your mage, or any of your party members. You MUST use every member of your party in some way, but there is no one way to solve this. Be as creative as you wish.

PS If the battle challenge seems imposiibly difficult, you may consider changing modes with no penalty at this time. Otherwise have fun! The OOC thread will go up in a moment, so please post all questions there.

As always, your captain or co-captain must post the RP for the team on this thread by the deadline. Enjoy!!)

boarding the flying frenchman Boarding The Flying Frenchman

Eren surveyed the ship and its occupants with an air of casual indifference, which he had gained from years of political training and pondered what exactly it was that they were supposed to be doing. Pavel was at attention at his side, his glowing golden eyes tracked every move going on about the ship, calculated any possible risk to himself and looked for weaknesses in the crowd. While Pavel 'knew' that the ship was safe and everyone on it was an ally of sorts, he could not turn off his predator instincts. Eren buried his hand into Pavel's nape, leaned back against the railing and waited for something to happen.

As Lady Frieda boarded the Flying Frenchman, she blushed as soon as she realized she had been staring at Lucien. Nothing Kitcher had told Frieda about Lucien and Izzy had prepared her for how strikingly handsome and beautiful these two vulpines were. "Greetings from Kitcher Wheezle, Captain Lucien and Lady Izzy. I am Lady Frieda of Omen, Kitcher's older cousin, and alchemist for the Rogues in her stead. I am honored to meet your acquaintance." She bowed, then offered her paw in friendship, as was the custom of her tribe. She just hoped that her perfume had worn off by now, the last thing she wanted to do was to appear smelling like a tart or floozie.

Dace looked at each member of the newly assembled team and swallowed hard. The only person she knew was Frieda, and this wasn't exactly a cocktail hour where she could go around eating wieners and introducing herself.

Teislyn scowled a little at Lini who was trying to burrow into her jacket for safety. She told the Lure to find another place and to stay away from the ship railing. Lini jumped down and ran off in search of a better hole to bunker down in and Teislyn knew that she’d be okay, so she turned to the task at hand, she wanted to meet the rest of the Stone Cold Rogues.

Lini scampered about the deck of the ship and poked her nose into every empty space. She was a sensitive little creature, instinctively aware that danger was in the immediate future and she diligently searched for a good hideout . She spotted large linen cloth that someone had dropped in a corner and was about to nose her way under them when she stopped and sniffed the air. Some scent had caught her attention and she turned this way and that tried to figure it out. It smelled familiar, but strange at the same time. She turned around again, stopped and blinked in surprise. Standing right before her was a creature she could have sworn she'd seen before. Lini took a couple of wary steps toward it and sniffed once more, stepped forward again, then let out a sound of pleasure the moment she realized who the creature was. She quickly ran forward and poked it in the backside with her nose. She was so happy to see her friend from their last adventure, it had been a long time since they had seen each other and she had missed the honey badger. Lini nudged the larger creature with her head and uttered a series of squeaks, she felt a bit safer and decided to stay near Doom.

After Lady Frieda had introduced herself to all her team mates, she asked one of the deck hands where her bags had been stowed. Satisfied that they could be easily retrieved if needed, she observed that Doom was nowhere to be found. She sensed Doom's emotions and it was quite obvious that, wherever the honey badger was, she was quite excited and happy. When she finally caught up with her charge, Doom was capering around a small porcupine-like creature that Frieda recognized immediately as a Leaf Lure. Doom had found Lini, Teislyn the Bard's companion and Frieda knelt down to make her introduction to the diminutive creature. Frieda sensed Lini's happy mood and that she was eager to make a new friend with Frieda. Lini seemed to radiate warmth and contentment toward Frieda, which cheered her and caused the alchemist to relax a bit. Teislyn approached looking for Lini and Frieda looked up and smiled at Teislyn, "I'm glad that Doom has a friend here. I just hope that I can make friends as easily. I'm glad I've met you."

Teislyn smiled in return and saw Lini and Doom chatting away in their own language. "Glad they found each other, hopefully they will introduce themselves to the other companions.", she chuckled. Grasping Frieda by the hand, she gave it a gentle squeeze. "I'll be happy to be friends and we'll do proper introductions later. Maybe then we'll all be more relaxed and not all frantic." Teislyn squeezed her hand again, smiled and turned to see what the instructions where from Izzy.

izzy's instructions

Izzy's Instructions:

Izzy McGuiness took charge and explained the mission to the team and Frieda's cheer was slightly dampened after Izzy's instructions. She had seen Izzy's small craft docked alongside the Flying Frenchman and had admired how similar the Victorious Vixen was in size and shape to her own small fighter pod Passion Flower. Issy had instructed the others with similar small craft and had detailed the mission parameters for their use in rescuing the Wayward Squirrel. Frieda suddenly felt that she might have made a mistake that could possibly endanger her team mates and her mood sank. She muttered to herself, "Why did you send Passion Flower home, silly?" Why had she thought she wouldn't need her most precious possession on this adventure. She may have studied Alchemy on Terra, but on Subeta she was known as a very competent pilot with two combat missions and one-eighth of a kill to her credit. Frieda quickly halted her mini-weasel pity-party, she was well-bred and knew better then to wallow in self-pity. She wasted no more time chiding herself but called to her team mates and asked for a quick conference. It was time to determine what each of the team members was willing or capable of doing to help rescue the Wayward Squirrel.

Dace was the first to volunteer, "Lady Frieda, I volunteer to help secure the cables. I believe my expertise in mechanics and hauling things with my barge will help us get the cables into the correct positions for optimal weight distribution!" She gave a mischievous smile and added "But there's no way in hell that I'm going to rappel down that steel cable in the face of lightning monsters, or what ever the heck those things are, unless the cables are insulated." Which was her way of saying that she would ride down one of the cables to attach it to the Wayward Squirrel. "Is there a way to insulate a cable without having to use rubber?" It was a good question, it was doubtful that the Flying Frenchman had the capacity to vulcanize liquid latex rubber.

Alphonse looked from team mate to team mate and spoke next. "I would offer to help with the cables and such, but I'm best using a sword. Unless there is any objection, I think I'll stick with what I know." He went on to explain that the fog monsters might have lightning as one of their weapons, but that fire, ice or wind might be useful ways to combat them. He asked if there was a special oil that could be used to help their weapons be more effective against the wraiths referenced in Izzy's book. Alphonse thought a flaming sword might be effective in burning off the fog. "Lady Frieda, you're the alchemist, could you concoct such an oil?"

Teislyn was next to volunteer and offered to handle the cable mechanism and act as a messenger between the Flying Frenchman's wheelhouse and the cable-runners as they approached their target. She knew that she was somewhat clumsy sometimes, so that ruled out climbing out on a cable. But a machine that had buttons on was sort of like a musical instrument. She certainly wasn't going to wave a flaming sword around.

Aicha sighed. "I guess you'll be needing my help a lot then, yes?"

Frieda turned to the Mage and nodded. "I think that the group could really use your skills, yes Ma'am" She didn't feel very comfortable in the position of spokes-weasel, but she sensed Aicha's emotions, and felt it her duty as an empath to help keep things calm, "I think Izzy was quite specific, all team members needed to combine their skills to accomplish this task. I certainly could use some help with the cable insulation, a spell to make it durable perhaps? And we could use somebody to relay messages between the wheel house and the cable runners."

"Help insulate the cables further, enhance the weapons, cast a minor spell on the weather, and communicate orders between the group?" Aicha laughed. "Is that all you want me to do? Just that?"

Frieda cocked her head with increasing disbelief in Achia's mood. "Yes, I think those tasks are reasonable, don't you think so? For the good of the group?" The fur along the back of her tail bristled.

"How pathetically simple!" Aicha laughed loudly and reclined backwards on her chair. "I could blow the creatures all away in seconds, turn the weather into into a rampaging tornado, and take care of the ship with just one pinky. But, if you don't want me to do that, fine."

"It's not that we don't want you to do all that," Frieda breathed in deeply and slowly to calm her spirit, "but in a border dispute, which is what we appear to be heading into, don't you think that such a display of power would attract attention to all of us and possibly bring all of us great harm?" Frieda held out her paws, as a sign of deference, "We need you to fit in with the rest of the group if we are to succeed as a group, don't you agree?"

"I don't like being treated like the rest of you - unlike you guys, I'm not worthless." The mage rubbed her arm in irritation. "I guess as long as I don't actually have to get dirty, that's fine."

Frieda nodded in agreement, "Thank you for your offer of help. I think you will find that we all have worth."

She smirked. "Just don't change your minds later - I won't be too keen on listening."

Shasa looked at each of her team-mates skeptable of what her role might be. They were likely deciding on the part they would play in the rescue and it soon became apparent that her role was fairly obvious. There was no way she could fight those overblown storm-clouds, and she didn't have the expertise to give directions. What she could do was climb, even in her fox shape, and her slight mass meant that the cable could easily be manoeuvred in whatever direction was needed. She sighed with relief as Dace volunteered to ride the cables before speaking up. "I can ride the cables. But I'll need an extra push if I'm to make it to the Wayward Squirrel, I'm not a very big critter so... yeah." She shot Lady Frieda's Honey Badger Doom a nervous glance before she shape-shifted into her fox form and trotted towards a nearby pile of cables to check if her paws could fit around them. Kiska coiled around her neck, and looked for Wraiths with unblinking eyes.

The idea of having to tow a floating saloon through something called "dark fog" past marauding lightening monsters with a team of people she had just barely met made Dace a nervous wreck. Luckily, she liked Shasa already and when she heard her volunteer to go down the cables she knew they could be close friends, that is, if they both lived through this little adventure.

Eren blinked at everything going on around him and quickly formulated the plans in his head. 'Wraiths, nasty creatures.' He thought, 'Especially the ones of Dark Fog.' He flicked his hand, ushered Pavel away from the rails and towards the other companions before he slung his bow off of his back, pulled an arrow out of his quiver, notched it and held it in position. Yes, this would be a good place, he thought to himself. He watched as the fox-girl changed into her fox form and inspected the cables while the snake coiled around her neck. Pavel did not much care for foxes, or snakes, for that matter, so he backed away as they drew closer, not stupid enough to start a territory fight during the middle of a battle. That did not, however, mean he did not wish to do just that. Eren returned the arrow back to his quiver and spoke in a thick Russian accent, "Eren will fight. Little female magister, you make oil for warrior's sword? Then you make fire for arrows too, please."
Preparing for Battle

Frieda nodded in agreement, "Then it's all set. All I have to do is conjure up some insulation and some magic flaming oil for swords and arrows." Where was she going to get the material for that?" No sooner had she had muttered to herself then she took notice of the crew of the Flying Frenchman preparing for the hours-long journey toward the Wayward Squirrel's last know position. How had she missed the fact that the first mate, Gaston, was a faerie? Faeries had access to almost anything, why didn't she ask Gaston if he had any chemicals? "C'mon Doom, let's go ask Gaston for some help."

The faerie was most accommodating and brought Frieda and Doom to a small work area down in the hold of the Flying Frenchman He showed her where supplies were kept and where she could mix her chemicals. Frieda was pleasantly surprised to find an assortment of crucibles and even a hotplate where she could heat her mixtures. He also left behind two strong deck hands, the minotaur twins Nicky and Nico, who offered to help her with the heavy lifting and transport.

Right away she located several barrels of good quality oil used to lubricate the mechanical equipment on the ship. She found several huge bags of powdered sulfur and ammonium nitrate used in agriculture to control disease and as a fertilizer. There were several glass jars of iodine crystals, bottles of ammonia cleaner, pots of thick tar, tins of sticky gear grease, and quick-drying lacquer paint. Right away she went to work on concocting the weapons. Ammonia cleaner and iodine crystals made an explosive mixture equal to TNT, but the crystals had to soak in the liquid ammonia for an hour. She would tip arrows with sticky grease, then with the wet trinitroiodine crystals and then with more grease. Once the arrow was lit, the archer who shot it would have about five seconds to hit his target before the remaining water in the TNI mixture evaporated and the arrow exploded, hopefully on target. After an hour and a half with help from the deck hands, she had twelve dozen arrows ready for combat.

The oil was a little trickier. She finely ground the ammonium nitrate into a dust, mixed it with a small quantity of sulfur, then stirred in the oil. She carefully heated the mixture on the hotplate just to the point of smoking to dissolve the chemicals together. The resulting thick, sticky mixture would act like liquid gunpowder and produce a brilliant waterproof flame on a sword. Hopefully, it would be hot enough to dissipate the fog monsters. She found a small barrel to put the oil in and had one of the deck hands take it top-side.

The cable was the trickiest job. She had to melt two large bags of sulfur until it was to the point of combustion, drag the cable through it and then immerse it immediately into a cold water to polymerize the melted sulfur into a rubbery coating. The job took her and the deck hands nearly two hours to complete, the fumes were choking and the heat exhausting. Once the cables had cooled to the touch, she had the cables hoisted up topside and wound back on the cable winches. She retrieved her bow and took her position next to Alphonse and Eren and gave the 'paws up' sign to Aicha and Teislyn to let them know that they were ready as soon as the Wayward Squirrel was in sight. She looked over at Dace and Buttercup and winked. "Good luck cousin! Good luck Buttercup!" She called to Doom who stood by her side and wagged her tail as if she were getting a snack.

Aicha scoffed and went about her tasks with a even more noticeable disdain than earlier. The minor enchantment on the weather was taken care of first with a rune circle carved onto a rock which Aicha anchored near the front of the ship to provide a continuous effect of lowering the temperature immediately surrounding the Flying Frenchman. This would cause the dark fog wraiths to condense more water and become heaver

As team after team of protectors of the Wayward Squirrel and their companions boarded the Frenchman, Laurie's top priority was to find a few minutes to talk with the ships famous captain/privateer. She had read and heard so much about the infamous fox and his adventures, she was sure if anyone would have advice about acclimating to her warrior role and hopefully some tips and tricks for avoiding contact with the working end of a sword, proper usage of gun powder in cannons, single shot rifles and the like Luthien could. She managed to say hello to him as she stepped on-board but once Izzy began to speak, that priority was shoved aside, and Laurie began scribbling in a well-worn notebook with her trusty no.2 while chewing on her lower lip, recording everything she said.

When Izzy finished Laurie quickly tucked the notebook inside her jacket pocket, tucked her pencil behind her ear and looked up just in time to catch the huge compilation of everything Unseelie tossed her direction. Resisting the urge to start at page 1 she called out for the rest of the and held it open to the page bookmarked for all to read.

Having left the guide at the crossroads, the Midnight Dancers finally arrive at the ship. Ayla slips over to discuss things with Lucien and Izzy, receiving his instructions while the remainder of the troop stow their hastily assembled gear, and work to lug Lara's bike on board. "What is this thing made out of anyway," Phineas grumbles, feeling compelled to show how manly he is by trying to lift the bike. He does not succeed, in either attempt.

After Ayla has received her instructions, she beckons the group to her and explains to them the situation. There is a bit of head shaking, and one or two distinctive blinks of surprise and alarm, but over all the group shows that they are up for this. They think.

Raider’s Folly and the Fog monsters Part 1 of 2
Quote by Paddy
I was just settling into the journey, ready to pick my knitting needles out of my bag and work a few more rows on the scarf I was struggling to finish, when Lucien threw the monster compendium at us. The Wraiths of Darkfog? That didn&;t sound good.... The docking hooks sounded more my kind of thing, so I ran over to the side of the Floating Frenchman to check which side of us the Wayward Squirrel currently was.

Quote by Reaper
I stowed my gear and headed back to see what Lucien had to tell us about the Squirrel. Docking hooks and fog…and monsters from the Unseelie court? Fantastic. He’d barely finished explaining before tossing a book at us. Fog monsters. Monsters made of fog. This day was getting better and better. I sighed heavily, hoping that maybe he was wrong, but of course he wasn’t, because I could see a dark mass moving closer. Awesome, what the hell were we supposed to do with that? As the fog monster things moved closer, a light rain began to smack at my face and across the deck, apparently the damn things, on top of being electrified if the lightning streaking through them was any indication, were also bringing their giant stormy mother along. I was starting to think I should’ve just stayed gone. I watched Paddy head over to the docking hooks, trying to get them arranged so that we could grab hold of the Squirrel throughout this mess. It’s good that she was working on that, I definitely wasn’t strong enough to wrangle those things around. Maybe I could build us something strong enough to keep the little bastards occupied – I glanced around the deck looking for anything helpful, sighing at the dirt and dust strewn everywhere. Wait a minute, I could work with that! I grabbed a deck broom and used an easy spell to get it to start sweeping all the dust and debris closer to me – sitting on the ground and forming the bits into small piles, slowly pushing the piles into the shapes I needed: arms, legs, torso, and a lumpy head. I closed my eyes to concentrate, ignoring the questions being shouted at me by the rest of the team. I needed this to work, to be strong enough to help us fight, and also be fairly resilient in the face of the lightning. I held my hands over the small dirt man – quickly becoming claylike in the rain now steadily falling from above – and pushed power down through my palms as I chanted. I could feel the magic working, the golem beginning to come to life. I finished the spell and smiled, confident that we’d be okay now. I opened my eyes, smile dropping off my face like a stone dropped off a cliff, hands fisting in my lap. Shit. I’d made a golem all right, one that was about a foot tall. “LOOK UPON MY CLAY FACE AND WEEP, FEAR ME ENEMIES OF MY MASTER,” his voice was like rocks grinding together, at about the volume of a mouse’s squeak. Some help he was going to be. I’d thought there was more dirt than that, but apparently not. I was just turning to see what the rest of the team was doing (hopefully not laughing because we didn’t have time for that) when I saw a spark out of the corner of my eye – one of the fog monsters had gotten close when I wasn’t paying attention, and had just shot lightning out towards me. I wasn’t going to be able to move in time, heart hammering in my chest, when the little clay man leapt upwards in front of me. He absorbed the shock, giving me enough time to scramble out of the way before the monster decided to try again. I heard a small “unf” sound as he crashed back to the deck, but other than a tiny scorch mark, it appeared he was unharmed. Well, at least I’d been right that the clay grounded the lightning, too bad I’d been wrong about the size of him. The rain was picking up, a wind howling along with it, and I turned to the rest of my team. “What now?” I shouted at them.

Quote by Raven
Being guarded and forced to stay in a teeny room for several days, werewolf attack, lost in despair, and Reaper’s emotional pain—it all happened at an inn. My eyes narrowed at the sight of the inn. “Let it crash,” I thought. It wasn’t the inn’s fault, or even the right inn, but that didn’t really change the smirk on my face at the idea of the whole thing crashing and all the kindling I’d have for my fireplaces. I watched as Paddy set into motion. Good thing she didn’t have any animosity towards the building. “Blah, blah,” I heard someone say, “fog monsters, blah, blah blah.” A book suddenly appeared in front of us—“good illustration,” I thought as I saw the monsters appear, “yep they look like the book.” Whilst Reaper was busy playing with the dirt, I was taking in the monsters and deciding how best to take them out. Stabbing something seemed like a good way to blow off steam. Maybe it was the decidedly cool greeting Reaper gave me and Die, but I was feeling a particular mirth at her stupidly teeny golem. As I started getting soaked, I saw Reaper was about to get hit with lightning. I might be upset, but I didn’t want her injured either. I was about to run and shove her out of the way—when her dumb dirt golem did exactly what I planned on doing. “Now what?” she asked. I rolled my eyes. “You could try hitting them with spells in their main bodies for damage,” I said, unable to keep the acid-like sarcasm from my voice. Pressing my fingers to the bridge of my nose and taking a deep breath, I said more calmly, “If we had something to negate the lightning, you could levitate me onto the mum and I can kill it. Die, do you have anything that can help? Maybe something I can put on me or something we can lob at the monsters? I can also take out their eyes with my bow and arrows.”

Quote by Die
Things were just starting out with a bang weren’t they? He was familiar with the Unseelie court for reasons he would be keeping to himself. The idea of facing monsters that could spit lightening at them left a sour taste in his mouth though. He had possibly seen worse. Narrowing his eyes slightly he watched after the werewolf. She was the strongest so handling the docking hooks seemed to be the best job for her.</p>
<p>Even before he spotted the dark mass approaching he could smell the scent of an approaching ‘storm’ in the air. It made the tiny hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. Grumbling under his breath he dropped to his knee, setting his ever present bag down and opening it, his gaze flicking from Reaper to Raven, listening with half an ear. Hearing the tiny voice he paused in what he was doing and glanced toward the small clay man. What the hell was she going to do with that? Fight a midget? At least it seemed to work… sort of.</p>
<p>Shaking his head he went back to his back and pulled out a large vial of metallic liquid. He was an alchemist; he knew the properties of most metals and even herbs. “We could all stand around and continue having a pleasant conversation before we die-” he sneered lightly, rising to his feet and ignoring the rain as he hurried toward Reaper and her tiny man. “This is mercury; I am going to pour it over the golem- I need you to lower the temperature around him to almost freezing. It will cause a reaction that makes your tiny man like a conduit. It will attract the lightening but rather than damaging the little beastie it will deflect it harmlessly.”</p>
<p>Which basically meant any lightening sent their way would automatically be drawn to Reaper’s creature, then pass through it harmlessly. It would not last forever so whatever Raven needed to do she needed to do quickly. Pulling out the cork he glared at the clay man, daring him to protest as he moved to pour the liquid over his head. It would spread quickly.

Quote by Reaper
Die’s idea seemed pretty sound, so I set to work, pushing frost through my palms at the golem as Die poured the mercury over his tiny head. “HEY HEY COLD COLD” the tiny man yelped, but honestly, he wasn’t really alive so I wasn’t going to worry about that too much. “Shhh little man,” I murmured at him, watching him quiet. I made him, his will was mine, and he stopped shifting and allowed the rest of the mercury to flow over him. As the mercury settled, the golem took on a sheen, and I scratched under his chin before sending him off towards the prow – enough away from us that we didn’t need to worry about getting hit by the lightning on its way to him.
I nodded at Die, and turned towards Raven. “We’re going to need to take at least some of the smaller ones out before we go after the main beast – otherwise they’ll form together and just make another massive storm monster. Do you think you can try blinding some of them with your arrows? I think if I add a creeping frost spell to the tips we might stand a chance – it won’t stop them, but it will definitely slow them down.” At her nod I set to work enchanting several of the arrowheads. I could see flickers of lightning hitting the golem as I worked, and if I felt a little bad its only because I was the one that made the little bugger.

Quote by Paddy
The Squirrel was off to one side so this wasn&;t going to be an easy task. I could see the hooks and ropes stashed on the deck but what I really needed was some gears or winches to get everything moving easier. I might be a werewolf, but there&;s limits to my strength! Running over to the other side of the Frenchman, I nearly tripped over the tiniest golem I&;d ever seen. Chuckling under my breath at the sight of him, a sudden flash of lightning caught my attention again. &quot;Anyone got anything I can use as a winch or gear?&quot; I yelled over the storm.

Quote by Raven
I heard Paddy’s yell over the gale. I was pretty sure neither Die nor Reaper heard her as it was rather muffled to me. I tried to think what Paddy could use. My throwing stars wouldn’t work, as they would cut the rope. Then I knew what she could use. I whistled for Jhun, who was sitting undercover not wanting to get wet. I dug in my bag and pulled out a small bit of rope, a towel and a pair of shurikens. Deftly, I wrapped the weapons in the towel and tied it flat onto the cat’s back. “Take that to Paddy,” I told Jhun. He ran off, whacking me with his tail. By the time I was done, Die and Reaper had made the little clay golem into a conduit. Good, I was chomping at the bit to kill monsters. I only nodded to Reaper’s question, because I had already mentioned I could shoot their eyes out. I took the arrows and put them into my quiver, it was better that I got them out as I needed them. Taking a moment to aim, the world disappeared from my eyes. I honed in on the monsters light orbs—Die and Reaper would protect me if something slipped past my keen vision. A loud whoosh in my ear as the first arrow flew directly into the centre of the eye of the first monster, followed by another arrow into his remaining eye. The sound probably wasn’t that loud to either Die or Reaper but elves have exceptional hearing and the arrows where close to my ears as I shot them from my bow. I worked in rapid succession, my hand and the arrows a blur of motion. Very quickly there was only one monster left—mummy dearest and I was out of arrows. I jumped onto the railing of the Floating Frenchman and said, “Levitate me onto the big one, I’ll hack and slash it.” I drew my twin hook swords from their sheaths and ready myself for Reaper to hurl me towards the monster. The conduit should protect me from any lightning so I was more or less safe.

Raider’s Folly and the Fog monsters Part 2 of 2

Quote by Paddy
&quot; There&;s something oddly transfixing about lightning,&quot; I muttered, staring at the flashes heading in our direction. Suddenly Jhun bounded over, nearly knocking me flat to the floor as he skidded to a halt. I thought cats were agile in all weather, but maybe he was just so excited to be given a task. Carefully untying the towel from his back, I pulled out the shurikens. They was the perfect size for what I wanted to achieve. Rummaging in my pocket I pulled out a small cylinder of metal. My uncle was always taking the mickey out of me for having pockets full of &quot;useless stuff&quot; but I knew I would need this one day. The cylinder fitted in the hole in the centre of the shurikens, and wrapping the rope over it gave me an idea little winch gear. Hammering it into the side of the Frenchman, hoping that it wouldn&;t do any damage that I couldn&;t later repair, I ran the rope through it, tying a hook onto the end. It&;d take a couple of ropes at least, to bring the Squirrel under control, so I just hoped that the others would be able to deal with that monster for long enough.

Quote by Reaper
I nodded at Raven, turning to Die as she readied herself, grabbing his hand. “I just, I need to borrow a little bit of strength, the storm is blowing pretty hard and I can’t get her up there on my own.” He narrowed his eyes at me but didn’t pull his hand back, so I figured it was okay. I laced my fingers through his and tightened my grip, turning to face Raven and aiming my other hand at her. I concentrated on pushing my magic outward from my hand to below her feet, chanting softly in Latin, asking the gods of the elements to lend me their will. I could feel the magic pulsing outward, see it buffeting around Raven even in the swirling winds the fog monster was causing. I ground my teeth together, pulling a bit more power out of Die and myself when I saw the drow’s feet begin to lift off the deck. With a shout and a final pull on our energies, I flung Raven up and out towards the beast. I hissed at the spark that burned from my hand to Die’s when I released my grip on him, mumbling an apology for the power jump I hadn’t expected and rubbing my stinging palm. I was a little exhausted, normally it wouldn’t have taken any help to move the drow but with the storm beating down on us from the Unseelie beast, I’d had to work a lot harder than I should’ve. Hopefully the golem could keep the lightning off of her while she fought. In the meantime, I’d better go see how Paddy was faring with the hooks, I could probably help aim the hooks a bit with my magic, tired as I was, so she could get the Squirrel dragged into place.

Quote by Raven
I felt myself soar through the air. It would have felt incredible if it wasn’t for the wind and the rain lashing into my skin and cutting me in across my face and arms. Still, I wouldn’t let myself get distracted by pain. When I came near the big mother fog creature, I sunk my hook swords into it and used them to pull me onto the top of the beastie. Finally, some battle action. I felt a few of my runes light as my thoughts turned to battle and the kill. The runes looked almost like the lightning. Vaguely I wandered what Die thought as he saw me up on the cloud—Reaper was gone. Where did she go? I shook my head as the fog creature shook angrily, reminding me of the task at hand.</p>
<p>Right, death—namely the death of the creature. I smiled—it was a very creepy smile. I stabbed the creature in the main mass of the body and luckily, I had used the hook swords because the thing started violently bucking. I found myself soaring through the air wildly as I held onto my sword and by extension the monster, since my sword was stuck in the middle of it. “Die!” I yelled. “Paddy’s bag, near you. There’s two thin daggers, can you take out mummy’s eyes?” I needed some kind of distraction, so I could get my footing again and stab the thing. It hadn’t even occurred to me how I would get down off the creature, but that could wait for now.

Quote by Die
Die wasn’t really expecting to be grabbed and he narrowed his eyes slightly. He was not by nature a touchy feely sort of person. He did not dole out hugs and shit like that until just recently. A lone man- that is what he had been before these women stumbled into his life, almost killing him in the process. “Do what you must,” he stated, his grip warm and firm as he braced himself. Then he felt the draw of power, his lips twitching slightly as he turned his head and fixed his stormy eyes on Raven as she began to rise.</p>
<p>There was a brief flash of worry but he had to trust her to take care of herself. Then his attention was jerked back as a spark singed his hand. Careless- or probably the fact he had more magic than Reaper might ever suspect. “Be careful,” he murmured as the woman took off, his gaze swinging to Raven as she yelled at him. Without a word he ran to Paddy’s bag and dug through the mess, not organized at all, until he came up with two thin, sharply pointed…. needles. “Daggers my ass,” he grumbled, his boots hitting the deck as he ran back.</p>
<p>He was not a warrior but Raven had forced him to learn how to use a weapon. Mainly a scythe but he had practice throwing shit as well. Wiping the water off his face he ignored the fact Raven was dangling over the ground, took aim and tossed the knitting needles, his analytical mind taking in the wind strength, speed and direction as the makeshift weapons raced off toward their goal.

Quote by Paddy
Ducking the latest flash of lightning, I swung the rope around a couple of times, before flinging it over the side. My aim wasn&;t the greatest, but trying to catch a moving target in the middle of what I could only describe as the worst weather ever, would faze even the best marksman. I heard a dull thunk as the hook caught hold of something, but peering over the side all I could see was the darkness. Pulling the rope through the gear just enough to make the Squirrel come a little closer, I then tied the top off onto the Frenchman and I eased it off the makeshift gear, hoping my knots would hold. Grabbing another hook and rope, I tripped over my tail as the Frenchman made a veer to the left. Evidently the extra weight of the Squirrel dangling off one hook was sending us slightly off course.
Flinging the second rope as hard as I could, I knew it&;d gone way off target. We didn&;t have time to keep waiting for me to have many attempts to get the hooks onto the Squirrel, and it looked like my first attempt was a lucky fluke. Reaper came up to me and I was very glad to see her. The rope was so saturated with the rain, it was getting hard to grip, my soaking fur making it even more challenging to aim the hooks as I flung them. Thankfully Reaper&;s magic was unaffected by the rain.... if anything, the monster seemed to encourage her magic to be even stronger than before, or maybe it just feels that way, having been away from her for so long. Anyhow, I didn&;t have time to muse on that, I had a job to do. The hook caught the edge of the Squirrel, and with Reaper&;s help I pulled the rope so the Squirrel was just about level. &quot;Ok, we&;ve got the squirrel attached, but how on earth do we get it into the centre of the protective beacons?&quot; I shouted. It was looking like brute force would be the only way to achieve this, but Reaper looked like she wasn&;t going to be able to pull much, and I guessed Die and Raven were still working on the monster, although I hadn&;t risked getting side-tracked by looking up to check. I doubted even with the use of the winch gear thing that I&;d be able to pull hard enough to get the Squirrel to align just where we needed it. If only there was another rope I could&;ve used to tie off on the opposite side of the Floating Frenchman, I could&;ve eased it over better, but I&;d used all the rope we had and didn&;t want to risk cutting it to get another piece, in case it weakened the attachment to the Squirrel.

Quote by Raven
I had just enough time for the swell of pride as Die’s throw hit their marks. The thin needles whizzed briefly in my sight and I realised they weren’t daggers at all. It never occurred to me that whatever they were wasn’t by nature something violent. What did that say about me? The monster screamed and bucked but I got my footing back and jerked my sword free. I stabbed the thing with both swords and it started falling from the sky. I sheathed my swords, knowing I’d need both hands free. As it fell, I came close enough to the ship and I lept, grabbing into the railing and dangling for a second—before Die’s soaking wet face appeared looking a little drained of colour. He grabbed my hand and pulled me aboard. I panted for a second and smiled, “Now that should be made into an amusement ride.” I let him help me up until I was staring in the sea of his stormy grey eyes. Before I realised what I was doing and that there were other people about, I was full on kissing him. My tongue slipped in his mouth and I was lost in the moment. When we broke, I was dazed. “I guess we should go find Paddy and Reaper now… and maybe get into some dry clothing. It appears we’ve all had our showers,” I said with a dance of light playing in my eyes. Jhun would be with Paddy, so once my cat was reunited with me, we could go check in and fall over into an exhausted sleep. Sleep, sleep sounded good.

Quote by Die
It was a little shocking, no pun intended to the little golem that was being lit up like a firecracker, that he had managed to hit his targets. Watching the drow he felt a surge of protectiveness and pride as she fought. He could and did find beauty in such things. Then things happened at a rapid pace, the blood draining from his face a little as the beast began to fall and Raven tossed herself toward the ship’s rail.</p>
<p>He probably cursed as he rushed forward and looked down at the woman, quickly grabbing her hand and helping her on board. “Of all the harebrained, brainless, reckless, foolish, asinine-“ His tirade abruptly stopped as cool lips found his and it was the shock of the moment that had him responding without another thought. When the kiss broke his anger born of fear had faded before color rushed to his cheeks so fast he was almost dizzy.</p>
<p>Reaper and Paddy- shit. Clearing his throat he nodded his head, shivering as he finally noticed his damp clothes, one hand flying to his head. “My hair- gods it will never be the same again,” he moaned, knowing part of the ‘new look’ could be blamed on Eolus. As they approached the other girls he could see they had been successful and he had the insane urge to laugh and maybe throw Paddy a bone. No- no he would behave. He was just suddenly so tired.</p>
<p>Rest sounded good, after he changed and brushed his hair of course. There was no time to speak as a blur of black suddenly attached itself to his face, small clawed paws gripping his cheeks as a rough tongue started to bathe him; over his chin, his nose, his eyebrow and then his lips. Reaching up he tried to pry the little rabbit demon off his face. “Stop that- don’t you dare- NOT ON THE LIPS DAMN IT!” Finally the blasted thing wrapped around his shoulders and started an odd sort of purring.</p>
<p>He now felt more rumpled, wet, tired and fuck it if things were fine he was going to go hide in his room and bemoan his fate.

Quote by Reaper
Exhausted as I was, I looked at the inn and how close it was to the beacons. Wordlessly, I aimed my hand at the Wayward Squirrel and shoved my power at it. It took almost all I had, but I guided it to the beacons. As the Squirrel thunked into place, I slid down against the ships railing, sinking to the deck. I’d forgotten what an adventure with my team was like, how tiring everything was. The months I’d spent gone seemed like a cakewalk now, even though at the time I’d thought I was going to die one way or another. I drew my knees up to my chest, still panting from all the power I’d had to use today, head falling forward. I brought a hand up to rub at the back of my neck, groaning at the ache and burn in my arms from so much use. Maybe I’d just sleep right here, the thought of trying to get to my room made me seriously want to cry right now. I took a deep breath, nose wrinkling, I smelled a bit like wet dog and singed hair, maybe I should just crawl to my room. I was gearing myself up to move when I heard a tiny voice, gravel in every word, singing at the top of its tiny lungs about being victorious over his enemies. Crap, I’d forgotten to send the golem back to sleep. I’m too tired for this shit, I thought as I used the railing behind me to lever myself up, back arching as I stood, feeling twinges in all of my muscles. I needed a really good rest before we did anything else. I stumbled over to where the golem was doing some sort of victory shuffle, the mercury still gleaming throughout the clay, dark spots all over from the lightning that had struck at him. “Come on little man, I’m going to sleep and then I’ll put you back where you belong.” He cocked his tiny little head at me curiously, before shouting, “I AM A FREE GOLEM NOW AND YOU CANNOT STOP ME!” He cackled as he leapt from my hand and disappeared across the decks. Huh. Fuck it. He wouldn’t cause any harm, just be annoying, eventually I’d catch him and put him back into his slumber, but until then he could run around the ship. I nodded at everyone as I slipped off to my room, wondering where the hell Spike was just before the dragon jumped onto my head, talons digging into my hair. “Ow you shit,” I whacked him with my hand and he flew back to the bedpost, eyes narrowing at me but leaving me alone. “I see you’re still perfectly dry – thanks for all the help up on the deck,” I teased before collapsing fully dressed onto my bed. I’d wash the bedding later or something. I felt the dragon slide down onto my butt, curling up like a cat, as I drifted off.

Quote by Paddy
I was dry at least, but I still had that kind of damp musty smell in my nostrils, the kind of smell you get from leaving a furry jumper out in the rain for ages, and not letting it dry out fully. Grabbing my bag, I whistled for Ivan and headed towards my room. I definitely needed sleep, but I wondered if there was a bathtub that I could use, just to get rid of the musky aroma before the morning. Stumbling over my paws, I realised I probably was too tired to even attempt to wash, so I resorted to a quick dab of perfume on my fur, and collapsed onto the bed. Docking the Squirrel evidently took more energy than I had anticipated, as I was asleep just before my head hit the pillow.

Almost as soon as Gaston finished speaking, a terrible, ominous rumbling echoed across the horizon. What drew near could only be described as a dark, menacing stormcloud, practically radiating a bad feeling. Immediately, the team leapt into action. While Lizzy and Dana teamed up to fix up the hooks on starboard, the rest of the team directed themselves to the portside which the darkfog was most certainly gonna hit. It was just a matter of minutes.

Celeste, calm as a summer sea, rifled through the pages of her grimoire in search of potential tactics to hold the monster at bay. To be honest, the creature looked a lot more horrendous in person than the grimoire artist gave it justice, but something had to be done. From the book, the mage gathered that whoever would do direct battle with the creature would need some type of protection from lightning, and luckily, she knew just the spell. She pulled out a charm from her bag and quickly began to whisper.

Meanwhile, Gavin had gone to thinking about other ways to slow down the cloud. “By the looks of it, it seems to be of the Supercell genus”, the alchemist mumbled to himself. “I believe current retardant fluid will come in handy.” Or could we use..." He started to rifle through his rucksack for the appropriate materials. “It is what? Speak English!” Amalia yelled from over at the railing. "To me, it's just big and - and very quickly approaching! We need to stop it somehow or we'll be maimed into the deck!"

"I got it!" Reyna quickly readied a net. Being a ranger, taming wild beasts was daily business to her. "Take this, Celeste - can you do something with it so it would stop the monster in its tracks? Maybe just a bit of Anti-Fog here, and we should be able to give it a nice welcome." "Done", exclaimed Celeste, some faintly grey spell flowing from her fingertips, and asked right back "Can you throw it on it?" Reyna grinned. "Come on, I've caught two bears with this once."

Over on starboard, Lizzy and Dana had teamed up to place the hooks. Both vagabonds in their hearts, they had taken a quiet liking to each other, and worked along seamlessly. Each of them holding a hook, they were anxiously on the lookout for the perfect moment to throw. There! The Squirrel drifted through the clouds, but as soon as Izzy's beam had caught it, they could feel the Frenchman turn, and they started to gain on it. "Just a few more meters", Lizzy said, and they readied their hooks.

It was in this moment that the darkfog hit the Frenchman full force. The ship trembled, altering it's course minimally, and Dana's and Lizzy's hooks only met clouds where they should have hit ground. "Shit!", Dana yelled. "Let's try again!"

On the portside, utter chaos reigned. The darkfog had given the Frenchman such a bump that it took less fight-accustomed Celeste and Gavin off their feet, but Reyna was still standing, and she threw the net, and she threw it well. In a heartbeat, the foggy mass withdrew a few meters, seemingly shrinking a little bit but also readying itself to attack again. As soon as it would devour or lose the net, it'd be from zero again. And still, it had given everyone the chance to pick themselves back up. "It is on", Reyna thought. "This won't hold for long.", Aodh remarked calmly, lifting his flute up to his lips. "My turn." A lovely tune floated from his flute and as the music filled the air, the stormcloud's moving slowed down slightly, less lightning flashing from its dark core. "Lowering aggression? Amazing!", Gavin exclaimed, adjusting his glasses. "Yeah", Reyna agreed, "but we can't rest now! We gotta hit it while it's down!" Celeste turned towards where Amalia had last been standing to toss her the charm, only to find the self-professed warrior trying to sneak away into the main part of the ship. She snorted in amusement - adventure was more fun than she had given it credit for - and chucked the charm at Amalia. It hit the warrior square in the head. “Ouch! What the hell was that for?” Amalia yelped. "You wanted to be hired as a bodyguard, so guard!" Celeste shouted. With a grudging look, Amalia turned around, gripped her sword in one hand and the charm in the other and rushed over to the railing, starting to strike the foggy mass with heavy swings while the lightning protection mirrored the monster's attacks right back. "Well, it can't be wrong to distract it", Celeste thought to herself and began adding small wind spells to the battle, tearing at the fog.

With Aodh's song, the situation on starboard had stabilized as well. A 15 meter throw, Lizzy's first hook finally hit ground and stuck in, and Dana managed to add the other two, giving them a sharp tug to dig them into the grassy ground. A triumphant yell could be heard over from Izzy's ship and Dana excitedly joined in. Lizzy smiled, but it faded fast when the Frenchman suddenly moved and two of the three hooks were ripped back out of the earth. She turned to Dana. "We need a safer method to do this - with the darkfog attacking, the ship just isn't stable enough!" "We need to get closer", Dana answered. "You know what - we should risk it. Let's pull it in!" They hastily got to work at the enormous hook crank, turning it together, looking each other in the eye and loudly counting their turns. The Squirrel came nearer millimeter per millimeter, the cable aching under the stress. "11... 10.5...10 meters! That's enough, come on!", Dana yelled, and they rushed back to the railing. One throw, then another, then the second hook stuck. "Come on, another one!", Lizzy yelled, "we can do it!"

“And…there! That ought to do the trick.” Gavin commented, swirling his concoction around in a flask. “Amalia! You might want to step a tad bit back. After all, getting hit with an entire flask of current retardant fluid may--” “Oh, just throw the darned thing already!” Amalia groaned, leaping backward. “Here goes!” The horned alchemist hollered, hurling the glowing flask at the fog storm with all his strength. The bottle smashed right into the dark center, releasing the fluid. Instantly, the liquid sublimed, and the vapor surrounded the impending stormcloud, bringing it to a screeching halt. Suddenly, it was quiet. “Ha! That should hold for about five minutes.”, Gavin exclaimed and earned an approving nod from Aodh. "Good work, my brother."

"It's time to retreat, people!", Amalia yelled. "As much as I love a good fight, we should really get out of he--" "WE GOT THREE HOOKS, PEOPLE, LET'S GO!" Dana came running towards the attack crew. "Just in time!” Reyna exclaimed, grinning at the vagabond. She couldn't help it, somehow... she had been worried. "Good lord. I wouldn't have wanted to meet that thing alone in the dark", the ranger added, smiling at her teammates in exhausted bliss.

Nobody had doubted Lucien to miss a single thing happening, but Lizzy, sweet as she was, still ran over to alert him. When the Frenchman started tugging the Squirrel towards safety with the Vixen's beam still leading the way, the group sank on the deck, laughing and updating each other on their side of the fight. They were tired and in dire need for a good ale, sure, but somehow they shared a feeling that momentarily drowned out any discomfort: they had accomplished their first shared victory - and it was a good one.
The Chimeriad was on the Floating Frenchman for several hours now, and some members were starting to wonder in what situation they got themselves into, and if they would ever arrive somewhere. All team-members had assembled with their companions on deck. It was a quiet atmosphere, and nobody really knew what to expect. Izzy and Lucien had explained the current situation of the Wayward Squirrel upon their arrival on the airship, yet the more they had heard, the more questions occurred. Why were the Unseelies after the Wayward Squirrel? What are those darkfog creatures and what would happen after steadying the Wayward Squirrel?

Gaston had shown them a chest filled with thick leather working gloves on the deck of the Floating Frenchman, in order for them not to burn their hands on the rough ropes that hold the docking hooks. The team was just putting them on, when Valera said:

“It’s a shame we weren’t able to bring the Flight of Fancy with us. If it wasn’t broken, it would be of great help with attaching those docking hooks.”

“I guess we will need to find another way. We’ll see when we get there.” Lilith answered in a sad tone. She never had to leave her airship behind before, and it hurt her thinking of her pride and joy.

“Get your bloody demons of the gloves, or I will send them back to the Crossroads! You wouldn’t want them to turn into Crossroad-Demons, would you? Nasty little buggers, those are.” Kir shouted at Krios.

“Don’t you dare harm my demons! They aren’t ordinary demons, you know, they are special!” Krios took his demons off the glove-chest, while Elia was raising an eyebrow at his remark.

The other Chimeriads were to busy preparing mentally for the task of capturing the Wayward Squirrel laying ahead of them to listen to the banter.

Myra’s beautiful face had started to show a green tinge, and Valera wondered, if that alchemist had ever set a foot on an airship before.

“I am alright, don’t worry”, Myra replied to Valera’s questioning look, feeling caught.

“Oh, wow, look at this, guys! Have you ever seen anything like that before? I have seen some dark places in my life, but never a fog this black and thick!” Lilith pointed at a wall of pitch-black, foggy matter directly ahead of them.

“Looks like we are stirring right into it! This must be the darkfog everyone has been going on about.” Valera reasoned. “Everybody get ready, we are about to enter, and I bet this will be an uncomfortable ride!”

“What do you see? Can you make anything out?” Matthew asked facing the darkfog without seeing it.

“We see about as much as you do, Matt, this fucker is blacker than the night!” Kir answered, squinting her eyes to focus better.

Myra had been unusually quiet since their arrival on the Floating Frenchman, and asked now in a brittle voice: “How are we supposed to even see the Wayward Squirrel in this murky matter?”

The darkfog had enclosed the Floating Frenchman entirely now. The only thing they could see was the laser floodlight of Izzy’s sloop ‘Vixen’ drawing spooky shadows onto the wall of thick fog, yet they couldn’t spot anything solid catching the light.

“There!” Elia shouted after several minutes of eternal darkness had passed. The ranger had spotted it first, the giant silhouette of the Wayward Squirrel slowly emerging in the laser beam ray.

Now also the others were able to identify a big something reflecting the light of Izzy’s spotlight.

“Get ready, landlubbers! We have an inn to catch!” Valera called her mates.

All of a sudden they saw what looked like thunderstorm clouds the size of wolves appearing out of the darkness. There were about six of them, glistering in the light as if they were made out of rain. Large twines grew out of their bodies, shooting lightning bolts in all directions. It was clear, that they didn’t come in peace.

“Crouch!” Valera shouted, when one of those beasts swooshed over their heads.

“Here, you need that!” Lucien screamed through the chaos and tossed a book, that Aldora caught with ease. She read out loudly with her singsong voice for everyone to hear:

She passed the book over to Matthew, not noticing how inconsiderate she just acted.

Before anyone else was able to react, Elia had taken her gloves off and was aiming her bow at one of those creatures. Her first arrow whirred through the air, just missing the beast by an inch. Yet she already had her bow ready again and shot the second arrow. This time it was aimed perfectly, hit the cloud-monster in its center - and just vanished into its dark, stormy body without any effect on the beast.

“It can’t be!” Elia exclaimed, her third arrow ready. She targeted the living rain-cloud again, her arrow dashed through the wind and disappeared in the monster’s body just like its forerunner.

Elia looked puzzled, not knowing what to do. Her arrows had never failed her to knock an enemy out before.

“I’ve got it!” Kir shouted at Elia. She was just ripping her glove from her right hand using her teeth and pulled one of her knifes out of her right boot. Like the wind she threw the knife at the beast Elia had attacked before. It hit the monster with full force before it was just being absorbed by the cloudy body like Elia’s arrows before.

“Damn it, motherfucking arsehole monster cunt.” Kir cried out loud, cursing the monsters and the loss of her knife.

Indecisive what to try next, the both girls tried to avoid the monster's attacks the best they could, while watching their fellow team-members in order to get an idea how to fight the Wraiths.

A wave of nausea washed over Myra. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly in a soft blow. Vividly, she remembered the day her parents took her on a boat trip. Her mother held her hair back whilst Myra puked all over the railing, embarrassed. She should have known what would be happening by boarding an airship!

Shimmershadow nudged her sympathetically. Naturally, he felt comfortable airborne, although passive flying was a new experience. Myra patted his head lovingly and tried to stand straight.

"Get a grip,” she reminded herself, "this is only a minor inconvenience!" Back then, she was a child – now, she was an alchemist and healer!

Myra rummaged in the depths of her big dress pockets. To the left, herbs for healing, to the right right, alchemistic remedies. First things first, she had to do something about her condition because she couldn´t think straight, the floor was swaying and the blackness around her swirling. Dried ginger and some poison nut tree fruits against the airsickness and some lemongrass for clearing her mind, yes, that should do the trick!

Cautious, Myra began to nibble the plants, her queasiness already waning, analyzing the situation. As her head stopped spinning and her mind cleared, she could see some quickly moving grayish clouds floating around the Floating Frenchman, little thunderbolts shooting out of them, trailed by a trace of water. These had to be the storm monsters Lucien mentioned!

Perhaps we can bring another element into action against them here, Myra thought.

She dug for some alchemistic powders in her right dress pocket and withdrew sulphur, a pungent smelling yellow powder, and phosphor, a white ground crystalline. Carefully, Myra added a small administration of dangerous looking blue vitriol. They should gain leverage by using this mixture, chances are the monsters would be blown up in a blink!

Myra patiently waited until two of the monsters approached the airship again, then she began to throw blazing fire balls at them, one after another. An amazing firework exploded around them, there was a loud whang and bangs and heavy explosions, one of the monsters squeaked, the other one made more of a hissing sound, then they submerged for some seconds to appear unharmed afterwards, just as vicious as before.

"Here goes nothing,” Myra thought, "I have to come up with another idea, looks like this solution would have been too simple!"

Elia, who had watched Myra’s attempts, pulled Kir at her sleeve and said to her: “This doesn’t seem to be our battlefield. Let’s concentrate on the docking hooks instead and try not to get electrocuted in the meantime!”

The both girls tackled their way starboard to the docking hooks.

Valera watched as her messmates attacks weren't hitting the mark. Either they had horrible aim or the creatures were unaffected. Gritting her teeth, Valera reached for her rapier and immediately thought that would be a bad idea since there was no way she could get close enough without getting herself killed. Sighing dejectedly she looked at Feng for a moment, "Looks like we have a real fight on our hands! Make your giant stone arse useful and cover m'back!"

The giant stone creature growled in acknowledgement as he kept close to his master. The lantern around Feng's neck was able to provide a little bit of light to see only a few feet around them. Since vision was low and the creatures were swift Valera decided to use one of her strengths, hearing. Pistol in each hand Valera closed her eyes and listened carefully. The pirate's long rabbit ears turned and flicked, trying to focus on the sound of the wraiths. Suddenly when one of the wraiths closed in on her, Valera opened her eyes and shot. The spray of bullets... did absolutely nothing. There was no way in seven Hells that Valera missed, her jaw hung open in disbelief.

THUD! Feng body checked Valera out of the way of the wraith since she was too in shock to react. "Thanks mate..." She patted her giant bodyguard knowing he had just saved her from a narrow defeat.

Already fidgeting, Krios tripped on board the Floating Frenchman, observing Myra´s doings.

"That girl,” Krios pondered, "can never overcome the cloud monsters alone, being such an inexperienced alchemist! And always deliberating in such a slow manner, oh my! The clear vision and effective action of a great mage is needed here!"

Krios saw a wraith closing in and, with a loud battle cry, swinging his staff, he stabbed the thing with maximum force, shouting "Quem di diligunt adulescens moritur!" at the top of his lungs.

The monster remained completely unaffected. It reached out with one of its tentacles in the direction of Krios and splashed a gust of ice cold water over him. Krios shuddered and let out an exasperated noise, feeling humiliated.

Perhaps his darling demon companions were able to come up with a nasty trick? He saw Feng, Val´s beast, defending its master and attempting to claw at the wraiths that passed by. Now his demons were much smaller, yet they had their dark secrets...

"The staff..." Myra murmured meanwhile. "My staff..." Excitedly, she thought about how she created it back then. "Krios! Perhaps we should try something with my staff because..."

Krios didn´t wait for an explanation. All six of the surrounding wraiths closed in on the pair, they were moving in as a swarm. Enthusiastically, he tried to grab Myra´s staff for a new attack yet the little girl was stronger than it seemed and Krios lost his footing, balancing at the edge of the railing! Myra let out a short cry and ran to the place where she had seen Krios last, but he was gone!!!

"Oh no, I am too late," Myra sobbed. If Krios had fallen, he is dead by now, that was for sure.

Aldora however took one of her little choking powder sachets out of her bag. ‘This will tell them to mess with us!’ she thought, struck out and catapulted her volley of choking powder in the direction of one of the monsters.

It left a dusty trail in the air, causing all the Chimeriads to cough heavily, but the living thunderstorms carried on to buzz through the air unharmed by the dark powder.

“Stop this shit, or you’re going to off us instead!” Valera shouted at Aldora, wiping the small particles off her face.

Jasper had been off in the galley as the monsters boarded the ship, he now scampered through fights as he dragged a bottle of whiskey with him. He managed to get to Lilith unscathed just as Aldora threw her powder sending everyone into a fit of coughs, Lilith snagged the bottle from her otter companion and took a quick swig to parch her throat. She could hear Valera scold their teammate, before setting off down the deck towards the wraiths.

Grabbing a bit of torn cloth off the ground she shoved it in the bottle. “What do you think you're doing missy?” Jasper yelled after her. “Taking care of these things, Duh!” Lilith yelled back taking a silver lighter out of her pocket and lighting the tip of cloth hanging down the bottle.

“Oh no you don't, I found that bottle and I'm not letting you waste it.” Jasper climbed up her trying to grab the bottle. “Just watch me.” Sticking out her tongue Lilith flung the bottle into a group of the little bastards, grabbing Jasper as he jumped after his precious liquor she turned and jumped as the bottle exploded.

They had barely gotten out of the way. The flames licked the creatures, and small puffs of steam billowed from them but, other than a weird hiss they seemed mostly unaffected by the fire. Although, the Floating Frenchman was definitely being affected.

“Shit!” Lilith exclaimed scrambling to find some way to put it out before it got any worse. Running like a mad woman she finally found a bucket full of water sitting on the deck, Lilith grabbed it and quickly put out the fire. The Floating Frenchman had only sustained minor damage, but Lilith was going to have to pay some major coin to get it fixed.

“Jasper remind me to never fling fire at wooden vessels please.” The otter grunted as they made their way back towards her team.

This was just madness. Clinging closely to Feng, Valera felt so useless as all she could really do was watch. Watching did some good at least, amidst all the chaos the pirate noticed one of the wraiths was slightly different than the others. The darkfog was so incredibly thick, Valera was briefly able to make out what she thought was the leader.

"OI! GUYS! I think I just saw what the guide said was the leader of the wraiths!" The viera pointed off into the darkness where she thought she saw the creature. "Teeth! Rows of 'em! Looked like a giant storm tornado with a bloody mouth filled thousands of 'em pointy teeth!"

Much of Valera's team was pre-occupied with dealing with the lesser wraiths.

Valera turned her attention to the spot in space where she thought she saw the creature. Squinting in hopes of catching another glimpse of the wraith, she was successful. Indeed this "leader" of wraiths was out there.

"It's there! JUST LOOK!" The panicked pirate continued to point in the direction she saw this unique creature.

“The leader!” Aldora had perceived Valera’s words throughout the chaos and started to sing cheerfully while taking her gloves off and trying to get closer to the beast Valera had pointed out:

“Follow the leader, leader, leader, follow the leader! Follow the leader, leader, leader, follow the leader!”

She had reached the beast and saw its

The Fellowship Lays Attack on the Unseelies (or We Can't Tell the Mists from the Clouds)
] Quercus listened to the description of the creatures and sighed. Star was hopping around on her shoulders, frantic to go and fight back but she stilled as Quercus unslung her bow and armed her arrows. "This is not going to be pleasant." She glanced at the Fellowship. "We need to decide who it is that goes and attaches that hook. Jean could do it and has the technical know how to attach it, but can you avoid the attacks? I could hang onto the rope and I've done enough running through the forest treetops so I could avoid most of the attacks. Spring can do the same but we're long range attackers. Maybe we can do the most good here on deck with Jean and Sihr adding to our arrows to deal with the Darkfog Wraiths.

Jean frowned at the book's entry, and shook her head. "I doubt arrows would have much effect," she said, thinking quickly. "Our best bet is light -- and wind." She looked at the two archers. "If either of your can put spells on your arrows, that would work. Otherwise, have Wolf enchant them as quickly as she can. Wolf, if you're not needed for enchanting, send spells of your own at them, to keep them off balance.”

Spring also nodded her agreement. "I do think you are right, Jean. We need more than just ordinary darts and arrows to combat something like this. I am no magician, but ages ago when I was young and wandering in the woods I met a wise elder who taught me something about creating a special mixture that will increase the effectiveness of either dart or arrow. It's a poison that will quickly find its way into the circulation of any kind of creature and at least weaken it, if not eventually immobilize it. It's one of nature's "magic tricks", he said, and it has never let me down." She paused and looked at Quercus. "I think Quercus is doubtlessly familiar with potions and poisons- even more than I- having grown up knowing the forest as she has, and together we can perhaps come up with the very best one possible for this application. I do believe if Wolf is able to add a spell on top of that, it will do us some good."

Quercus affirmed Spring’s comment, "Spring and I have a few potions. They'll annoy more than kill but it will give them cause to pause. Unfortunately, I can't cast so it's all up to you and White Flame, Wolf." Quercus placed her quiver close to the winged mage and took aim with her first treated arrow. "Let us know when you're ready to start. I'll try a volley shot to get their attention and draw them away."

"Hey?!? What's all this about my being given orders?!?" Wolf glares at her friends playfully pouting, teasing. She quickly laughs and as quickly as she was happy she was serious.

"These creatures are quite serious. Light, as Jean suggested, is the right track, but enchanting the arrows with light won't do anything to them. These creatures are made up of electricity and mist. Fire would be a much better offence! It'd help to further injure these creatures at any rate, drying the mist up in whatever areas the fire touches." Wolf turns to the Rangers, "I'll enchant your arrows to flare up the moment they fly from your bows. It'll help aid in the attack to your potions and powders."

Seeing as Quercus had offered her quiver to Wolf, she quickly placed the enchantment upon both Rangers’ arrows.

Quercus continued, “Venom, you're probably the best bet for dealing with these attacks. Wolf, with your new wings you too could do it and your magic can protect you. Maybe it would be best if you two got the hook attached while we provide support?"

Star let out several sharp tweets. Quercus touched the bristling songbird gently on the head. "Star can help distract them, though I wish she'd stay here." Star settled but kept gazing at the sky and the amassing Wraiths. "So, who goes to attach the hook?"

Wolf shook her head, “No, I think that Jean and Venom are much better for the docking than I. It’s better I take to the skies and protect from above.”

“Star,” Jean said, “you are welcome to be a distraction, but do be careful! I don't want anything to happen to you." <I'll help too,> Sihr said suddenly. Her mindvoice was shaking with fear, but still firm. <Unseelie creatures like eating faelings. At least a couple will chase me.> Jean blinked in surprise. "Are you sure?" she asked, surprised her shy friend would be willing to leave the relative safety of her shoulder. <Yes. I fly very fast. Just...don't take too long.>

"Star says she'll do her best to keep Sihr safe. Trust me, she's had more than her fair share of dodging large creatures after her hide." She gently bumped her cheek against her small friend. "Just remember to watch your own tail." A faint hint of worry crept into her voice though it was overshadowed by the warmth in her tone. Star twittered, nipping at her cheek with her beak before spreading her wings and taking off.

Jean nodded agreement to Wolf’s statement. "Very well, that leaves Venom and me and I agree that Wolf would be better situated above. I'm quite agile, and I'm sure Ven is as well. He's the best at close combat, so if he has to defend himself should they swoop in, he'll stand the best chance. I'm better at dodging attacks than standing and fighting, so that will work in my favor. We should be the ones to handle the docking hooks. Wolf, if you have any spells that will increase our recovery rate from electrical attacks, now is the time to cast them."

Wolf takes something out of her pack handing it to each that would be in danger. She kisses each star charm before giving it to each member, blessing it.

"Put these around your necks. They'll help protect you."

A squeak behind her ear, and Selawick appeared. He had heard Star's song and though he was not one to rush headlong into anything, he did want to keep his friends safe.

"Selawick says he will do anything that a mouse could possibly do to help. He's good at retrieving things and is very quick. Perhaps he can be of some help to any of us." Spring gave Selawick a stroke and he ducked back down into the little pouch near the quiver again.

Wolf smiled at the cute little mouse, “I think hiding is the best he can do right now. I wouldn’t want to see him hurt. Don’t worry, Selawick, your chance will come soon!”

Venom reached out and took the charm Wolf gave him, putting it around his neck. Ever silent, Venom took all of this in contemplatively. Venom had a growing concern that his blade would be little use to him in the brewing lighting storm that lay ahead of them. Steely blue eyes narrowed in their attempt to count the expending number of Unseelie below the Frenchman. They seemed to be spawning from a single entity, one slightly larger mass with violent eyes visible even from so far above. Clenching and unclenching his hands into fists Ven turned from the window and nodded to his team. “I’m not so sure hitting them with anything physical will disable them, but I’m more than willing to give it a try…” If their teeth were solid he planned to knock them out. While sheathed his sword wouldn’t conduct electricity, all but the hilt… What were a few zaps compared to the failure of a mission. After all this was only just the very beginning

Once her friends had the charms, Wolf said, “Jean, I'll fly above and start the defence with invisible force fields from my staff powered with natural ceramic elements! I'll do my best to protect you and Ven, but I can't guarantee anything!"

Wolf then saw Tipper, Flame and Sierra huddled together and scared, "Little Ones, run down below ship! Get to the hold! It'll keep you safe! I'll come and find you when this is over."

With that, Wolf spread her majestic, large wings and took off into the dark mists.

Once up there, she got worried, her face set in a grim, yet determined expression. This is not like practice. I'm getting thrown around like a leaf in the wind! She thought. Focusing hard on her wings, she steadies herself only long enough to wind up getting hit! Spiraling downwards like a wounded bird, Wolf manages to pull herself up after only falling a few feet. Flying to the top of the mast of the Frenchman, she perches there and begins to fire. Blast after blast emits from her staff. Screams filled the air from the Unseelies being hit by both the Rangers below and the Mage above!

Quercus stood on the rail of the Frenchman and took aim. This was going to be tricky but possible. In her quiver by her side sat several arrows. She'd treated them with various kinds of dusts and compounds. They wouldn't kill the wraiths but they would irritate them and slow them down. Some might even force them to become rain clouds. While she didn't like the idea of the rain they would produce, it might mean they were less likely to kill them. As soon as Jean and Venom moved, Quercus pulled back her first arrow and shot as fast as she could into the oncoming wraiths. The treated tips burst as they came into contact with the electricity seething within the wraiths' tendrils, scattering sports and powders over them which were quickly absorbed.

Spring took her position on rail not far from where Quercus was sending off arrows as thick as hail. There was no guarantee that the concoctions they'd made on the way up would have any effects on the Wraiths, but it was worth a try. If it only served as an irritation and a distraction, that would be enough to give them time and a chance to find their Achilles heel and take them out enough to get that hook in place. And the Fellowship would take anything they could get. Of all the things they'd battled, this was going to be one of the more tricky to master. Catching Quercus' eye, Spring said above the noise "Find a way, or make a way, remember? We've got this!" And with that, Spring let loose her arrows, giving as much cover as she could to her team.

As Quercus shot, Star took off zipping in front of the wraiths and distracting the forerunners away from Jean and Venom. Tipper had lead White Flame and Sierra down to the hold before returning to the fight. She'd seen worse while traveling with Quercus and she wasn't about to back down now. Tipper wasn't sitting still either. The fox raced back and forth with more arrows in her mouth to Spring and Quercus. Her racing from between the hold with more arrows for the rangers and avoiding the wraiths was making her rather tired. Firing, Quercus hoped what they were doing was making some difference. The Wraiths were everywhere it seemed. Working out which were clouds and which were wraiths was not and easy task. Quercus breathed in and took aim with her next arrow. It was hard to tell if the potions were working, there were so many, but some didn't seem to be moving as fast or were thrashing in a way that implied pain rather than any attacker.

Let's see if Wolf's spells can't get their attention away from those hooks. Quercus thought, letting loose her latest arrow. She could see Jean and Venom from the corner of her eye. It looked like Venom was fighting. Hardly surprising considering the numbers they were up against. "We need to keep the bulk of them away if we can. I don't think we can hit all of them." She commented to Spring.

As the Rangers and Mage were already thick into battle, Jean took the charm and put it around her neck before nodding to Venom. "Right, you ready? Let's go!" She pulled on a pair of sturdy gloves from the pouch at her waist, and tossed two of the hooks over the side using the cables on them to rappel down to the Squirrel below. She landed solidly, absorbing the impact with her knees, and wasted no time in dashing for a place to secure the first hook, letting Venom follow behind her.

Venom couldn’t help grinning as he took position on the deck. He felt the Frenchman maneuver and dip daringly close enough to the Wayward Squirrel Venom sprang from the deck. With his sheathed sword firmly in hand he landed with a graceful tumbling roll onto the ground below.

There were a scarce few things on Venom’s mind at the moment but his foremost ambition there and then was to keep Jean safe. His ears swiveled to the sound of faint crackling coming in from all sides, but he could not say for certain where it was coming from. He tried but couldn’t sense any invisible barriers. Luckily they had appeared to have landed close to a solid anchor point.

Jean wanted to hurry, but she still had to make sure the hook was solidly in place, and that took time. Behind her, she could hear the sound of Venom fighting, and more distantly the sounds of the aerial battle above.

Meanwhile back on board ship, Quercus snapped off another arrow, hitting the face of one wraith that had gotten too close to Star for her taste. Star was flying as fast as Quercus had ever seen her. A flash of brown in a black sky, Star was darting from one wraith to the next, luring and distracting as many as she could. But the sheer number of attackers was frighting. It was going to be a hard fought battle just to survive. If this is what the Unsellie Court is opening this fight with, what will we face next? The thought flashed through Quercus' mind before she turned her focus completely to the battle at hand.

Up on the mast, Wolf continued her assault of defence on the Unseelies as Jean and Venom took charge of the main part of the mission: docking the Squirrel to keep it within the protective beam field.

From her vantage point, she saw the two climb off the Ship and onto the Squirrel. She couldn’t watch anymore as she became quite distracted by first Sihr and then the creatures.

Sihr was taunting the closest wraiths, boldly flying close enough to attract their attention before darting off, though she felt anything but bold. She was terrified. One good zap and she'd be lunch! But as she'd told her larger friends, she was a swift flyer, and far more agile than the Unseelie attackers. They were counting on her. She needed to do this!

Jean noticed Sihr up there while setting to work securing the first hook. It didn’t take long for the Unseelie to take notice. An invasion had begun. Quickly the electric creatures began to converge on the unwelcomed party. Venom stepped boldly toward the closest cloud creature and realized that the crackling he heard was coming from it. The sound grew louder and more abrasive as it hovered ever closer, its tentacles spewing light alerting its surrounding brethren to the attack. Suddenly this didn’t seem like such a bright idea.

Swallowing his doubt with a quick jab toward the cloud creature Venom found himself praying that it’s face would shatter under the applied force of his stone sheathe. His prayers were quickly dissolved when he was met with an alarming jolt. Quickly reevaluating his stance he struck again, lower this time, still receiving a shock but this time he felt the creature give way. It wasn’t going to be easy but it was possible. Holding onto that very thought he pushed the creature back and reaching with his other hand punched it square where he approximated it’s center to be. This next shock was tremendous but the creature suddenly fizzled, the shock subsided, and the cloud vapor rolled away into the surrounding mist.

Venom stood steaming, his clothes had turned mostly black but thanks to Wolf’s magic they had not entirely singed, and his heart was unharmed. Raising his voice so that Jean could hear him over the howl of the wind and the crackle of enemies that surrounded them, “Not to rush you or anything, but this is rather dissatisfying.” Certainly not his idea of a fair fight anyway, and it was terribly tedious. Grip tightening and he sprang toward the next encroaching cloud, attempting this time to distract it away from Jean rather than engaging it, all the while advancing their position toward the next available anchor.

Jean finished with the first hook and moved to grab the second from where she'd placed it on the ground. "Venom! Time to move!" she cried, turning to look at him. It seemed he was attacking with little effect, and suffering an electrical attack any time he made contact, though he could be doing more damage than she co

The Bohemian Travelers Assist Kronus spoke aloud to the group.... "As we have had a chance to scout around a bit in the area we've come across a fine pile of old relics from days gone by....the junkyard of junkyards for sure...it has some real old relics in here. The one thing us Borderfolk know is engines ...and now i see something that might make our task a little easier. It's an old motorbike. It's missing a few things but i think we can rig a few things to make it work for us.It really doesn't need to run for a long time, but just long enough to do our job. Right?" He looks around at all our members...... "Hummm this will do for a seat....it's actually an arm off a seat on a cruiser from a transport ship. It's well padded, just what we need.We can use this old gas can as the tank to hold fuel for the bike.Just need to find a few rubber hoses and make one hole in the cap of the gas can for one of the hoses. We'll just siphon out the fuel as it is needed for the bike, and put the other end right onto the carb....Tires look to be solid so i hope the shocks on this thing will work..Or it will be a rough ride. How are we going to get a spark to get this bike running??? Any ideas on a battery?? A source of power? Only need it to start so it will just be a quick jump start maybe a few seconds worth of power."

As he was speaking, the rest of the group glanced worriedly in different directions and all including their companions prepared to fight or flee as needed. Dori has an illuminating mechanism for deep water that can be voluntarily activated as needed. It only lasts minutes at a time, needing to recharge in between uses. "We Transphibians are never alone, so when light is needed, we take turns with this". Dori's planet is aquatic. Dori will call on an eel from the sea. Watching the efforts of Kronus had Chandie attempting to assist though may have gotten in the way more then help as she sighs... "I am good with some things but not putting things together" Yet seeing Dori's attempt with the eel, finally makes the bard smile...something she can help with! Chandie adds to the performance of the creature by playing a enticing yet strange sounding tune with her lyre, the notes so clear and sharp they could be heard under the water. Occasionally a bright light as if a shock is seen from the now enhanced eel and as a result, along with the mage's powers the motor was assisted to start.

Bloody Frenzy (Frenzy for short) and her companion gathered the docking hooks into their arms. Talking telepathically they communicated to each other. "I will try to get one in position over each corner of the Wayward Squirrel. As soon as one is in place you scramble down the rope and manually attach a hook. Then climb back up and we will do in again on the next corner. You will have to do this four times in total. Is this acceptable to you?" The bear looked at Frenzy and gave a reassuring smile. With the aid of the extra laser beam floodlight which cut through the darkest and thickest fog easily, we maneuvered our way to where we would attempt to secure our first hook. Tendrils of thick fog were whipping wickedly through the air and seemed to be electrified. Suddenly shimmers of water were seen and eyes that were two orbs of light appeared. These were the dreaded electrified, flying fog creatures.

I thought of turning tail (even though I do not have one) and running for the hills (even though I was on Frenchman's prow with no hills to be seen). To do that would mean failure so I had to think of a way to put them out of commission for a while. There was no way that I could put them permanently out of action. I am only able to do that with meat and bones, not fog and electricity. So I drew in a deep breath and slowly exhaled again and again until my lungs were full. Rapidly I turned to face these creatures and I huffed and I puffed fast and furiously, keeping my fingers crossed that this would work. IT DID!!!!!

Elne watched as Frenzy bravely exhaled at the ghoulish fog creatures. If the wind didn’t take them out, the strong garlic breath should work. Elne recalled Frenzy consuming mass quantities of garlic fries at the tavern but had no idea it could be used as a weapon later. She looked on helplessly until she remembered the rare Gunbai war fan she carried in her bag. She reached for it and also grabbed her sonic screwdriver. She attached the fan to the sonic mechanism and flipped the switch causing a gust of wind that took all of her strength to aim at the creatures. Frenzy's strong, aromatic wind had already weakened them and the Gunbai fan helped to finish them off. The fog began separating into little particles of water droplets causing a mess on deck but no danger to Frenzy or her companion. Before they could reform we had better get to work.

This is where Galadeth and Dori would certainly be of help. We needed the motorcycle to be able to become airborne if necessary. The Mage was up to that task and Dori's illuminating mechanism with the eel along with Chandie's music could be very helpful if all went to plan. Galadeth took out the wand that was tucked up her sleeve. "Abracadabra, alakazell, illuminate not just water but air as well." With that the air took on an incandescent appearance and we could see what we had to achieve. Quickly she began to murmur words that were incomprehensible but very uplifting, as we all saw when the motorcycle began to slowly levitate and then fall to the ground. Up and down the cycle went until it was finally in the air. With the way lit, Kronus took a flying leap and landed on the seat. He maneuvered the cycle to one corner of the back-end of the Wayward Squirrel. Then Elne suddenly became airborne also. No spell this time, just a bit too much "happy juice that makes you high." She positioned herself over the Wayward Squirrel or as close as possible without knocking herself out on one of the hooks. Chandie stood on the ground shaking her head as she petted Ninja, her companion dog, nonstop and the freckles on her face stood out with the reddened blush while murmuring in embarrassment. "I'll help on the ground, I'm scared of heights"

Very carefully Frenzy attempted to slowly drop the hook into position with the quiet assistance of the mage Galadeth in finding the exact position as she felt the magic calling. When it was in the right place the bear carefully descended the rope hand over hand until he reached the hook. With precision he placed the hook in exactly the right spot then ascended to the deck. This they repeated 3 more times until the 4 docking hooks were securely attached to the corners of the Waywood Squirrel. Now all the team had to do was ensure that the Wayward Squirrel was positioned safety within the protective beam field which was easily done with the help of Galadeth easing through the field with her wand helping.

The Whovians Battle Using Science (sorta) After listening to Gaston's and Lucien's instructions for the pending task, the Whovians form a plan and split up. Clara and Kyo go with Gaston to raid his stash of heavy duty duct tape in his galley, leaving Sera, Sazi, Haneway and Raw on the deck, preparing to battle the wraiths.

Wandering through the galley, Clara plucks rope and tape off the shelves, handing them to Kyo. "We'll need to somehow attach the floodlight to my shuttle." Clara looks at Gaston and smiles charmingly, "I don't suppose we could utilise the help of a couple of your crewmates please. I could do with some help with the floodlight."

"I've bought my bow and arrow with me. I suppose your ship has a vent that I can shoot out of, doesn't it?" asks Kyo. "I was thinking that maybe I could take the hooks and feed the long cables through the vents into your shuttle. That way, as we are flying to the Squirrel, we are bringing them with us. I can attach them to my arrows, then as we get close, I can just shoot the docking hooks/ That way Izzy doesn't have to manually attach the hooks to the Wayward Squirrel."

As Clara sets about directing the crew to jerryrig Izzy's spare laser floodlight to Clara's shuttle. Kyo takes the opportunity to look around the shuttle, picking out the best place to shoot out of. She takes some more of the tape and begins affixing the docking hooks and cables to her arrows. "I tweaked the docking hooks slightly with a seeking device so they should only hit the Wayward Squirrel" explained Gaston. "Oh that's a good idea. I'm fairly confident with my aim but with your additional help, these should attach with no problem then." replied Kyo, happily.

With a final shout to the rest of the Whovians, wishing them good luck and to make sure they are ready, Clara and Kyo climb aboard the shuttle. Expertly, Clara snaps on the laser floodlight, starts up her shuttle, and pulls out of the side of the Frenchman. Following the beam from the Vixen, Clara pulls up alongside the sloop with the Frenchman close behind them.

"This darkness is really creepy" murmurs Kyo, who is in the co-pilot seat, trying to peer into the fog."Oh, I can see the Wayward Squirrel now, let me go and get ready" Kyo scuttles out of her seat and settles down next to the vent, preparing her bow. As they get closer, Kyo draws the string back, takes aim and lets the first arrow fly. The arrow whips through the air as if the fog has suddenly tried to take a hold of it to steer it away from the building. But true to Gaston's promise, the seeking device kicks in and the docking hook fights back determined to find its target. With a thud, the arrow embeds itself into one of the wooden struts of the building. "Bullseye," dances Kyo, but her excitement is shortlived as she is suddenly thrown to the floor. "Kyo," shouts Clara, "we are getting attacked by the Wraiths. I'll try and keep her flying straight but you're going to have to buckle yourself in. Hopefully the rest of the team can get their part of the plan into action soon!"

A huge grin spreads across Raw’s face. She throws her pack down and starts frantically rummaging through it, pulling out a Large Gutting Knife. “Can I stab it?” she looks at her other teammates, not wanting to run into the fray, learning her lesson from too many times before. "You need to be able to block electricity if you're going to do that" says Sera, wondering if this was the best time to leve home after all. “I need to do what? I have a shield!” She turns around and pulls out a Mirroring Shield of Brilliance, “Would this work?” "Maybe it should be, you know, more reliable?" Pipes up Sazi. “Oh, I need something that is more reliable, as well…hm…” She searches through her pack and throws on some Amazing Emo Glasses, “What? I grew as a person in our time away…or I murdered a hipster, your choice.” She gleefully takes off towards the wraiths, knife and shield in hand, calling out a crazed battlecry that somehow sounds less scary coming from the Halfling emo warrior.

Hane stifles her giggles about Raw's new look long enough to shout, "maybe you should wait for me to set up a lure first?"

She opens her suitcase of supplies. "Good thing I brought plenty of salt for grounding this magical electricity." She sprinkles enough for Sazi and Sera to stand on. "Raw's on her own-- don't think you want to stand too close to her! Now where was that...ah! Here it is." She pulls out some Copper and Strong Acid to start an electrochemical reaction. "Now, a sprinkling of fly wing to amp it up." The air around the mixture starts to sizzle and crackle as she steps back, laying magnetic stones around the mixing vessel to direct the energy and to protect herself. The wraiths pause, as if the smell had caught their attention. "Ha! The negative charge gets them every time."

As the enemy gets closer, the team notices gaps forming between the component creatures. "Looks like the charge is pulling them apart. Anything we can do to keep that going will make the fight much easier."

Sera pulls out her DEM 3.0 and starts fiddling with some of the settings. "What on earth is that?" asks Sazi. "My Deus Ex Machina or DEM for short. I saw an old programme once where this guy had some sort versatile tool that could well do a lot of things. For extra credit, I built my own. I've been working on improving it though, hence the 3.0! I think I can use it to help Hane boost the charge" Sazi appears deep in thought "So you just point and it zaps stuff?" "I think so." "Can I borrow it quickly" says Sazi, delving into her bag and pulls out a Freezing Baguette Crystal. "If I can get into this, maybe I can get it to draw some power from the Crystal. Those wraiths look like they are made in part of water, so if we can freeze and solidify them that makes Raw's job a little easier at destroying them." "Oh here you go," says Sera, opening a compartment in the side. With a bit of effort, they jam the crystal inside and with a few adjustments, Sera points at one of the cloud-like shapes. It freezes just as it heads towards Clara's shuttle.

"DEM meet Ol Blue, it my handy thingamabob does a bit of everything and doubles up as a torch!" Sera looks skeptically "but can it work on so many targets at once?" Sazi points to the back at the Mages Magical Net "thats why i made that" Sera blinks "is that a fishing net? seems a bit off, or is it a tennis net and why is it so small? Wait a minute, is that my Hammock? Really? I need that to sleep in!"

Sazi replies "its not a Hammock, technically. (wont you get all sea/airsick swaying all the time on a ship like this, anyway?) at the moment its a bit of both...... and we are playing Hockey!!!!!" She hands a wooden pole to Sera ands wields an identical stick.

"Huh? we dont have time for that, there are those creepy wraithfog to deal with" Sazi takes a practice swing "now, thanks to Haneway's alchemy those things have broken into individuals, which are easy to deal with. Here is the gameplay -- when those fog creatures approach we try and freeze them and toss (or is it hock!?!) them into the net, the 'hockey sticks' are wooden so we wont get zapped by them and are excellent to bonk them on their heads or knees or feet......"

"Oh, I get it. Did Hane make the net?"

"Nope, it's a Magnetic And Gamma Ray Infused Concentrate Net aka M.A.G.I.Cal Net! The negative magical charge diffuses the wraithfogs electric charge and the Gamma ray concentrate separates the ice from those creatures. End result we get is just a wandering blast of wraithbreeze !?!?! Also, just a small side note -- dont touch the net or get within a foot of it or you will get a bad burn and become a walking cling wrap"

"Nets, I don't need those prissy things!" Raw says as she smashes her shield into a frozen wraith. "On the other hand, these make a very satisfying Smashy-Smashy sound when you stab and bash the ice cubes!" The others attack the remaining creatures, freezing, then bashing or stabbing them. Hane tries to help by chucking magnetic stones, but they don't seem to do much. "At least my lure worked!"

Seeing the Whovians fighting the wraiths, Clara manages to level the shuttle out. "Okay, Kyo, I think we can try and attach the rest of the hooks." Kyo takes her bow once again and fires another arrow at the Wayward Squirrel, followed by two more in quick succession. She then lights up a flare to send up as a signal to the Floating Frenchman; that the hooks were attached and that Lucien could start to pull the inn into position.

The Foggies Meet the Darkfog The Foggies Meet the Darkfog

The information within the book about the wraiths had Turf on edge, he was hoping for a grand adventure but this seemed like imminent death. Reaching deep down within himself he gathered enough courage to at least try to help out. He remembered why he was doing this, to become a great mage, Eurus was counting on him to protect his friends and so he would do just that.

He looked to the clouds in the sky for any sign of the wraiths and shouted to his comrades, "I'll keep the wraiths busy so that the hooks can be attached to the Wayward Squirrel... Armina, you look more than capable to assist me in the matter, please fight with me." Without any warning, the clouds began to shift and move around the Flying Frenchman, then tendrils of fog began to whip at them, narrowly missing Fern.

Armina suddenly dropped the book about the wraiths on the deck of the Floating Frenchman, the unrest in Turf's voice startled her at first but she quickly readied herself for battle. The electrifying tendrils of the wispy beasts took the warrior back to a previous mission in which she fought an enormous armor plated creature, also capable of emitting a lighted jolt. The sound of a voice that seemed somewhat distant and Fern's near miss instantaneously brought Armina back to the present.

Turf chanted something in an ancient tongue and it seemed at first that nothing happened. Then suddenly earth and rock began to float in the sky around the flying ship, creating stepping stones. Turf looked to Armina and nodded as he jumped from one stone to the other, hoping she would follow suit. He twirled his staff at the wraiths as they descended upon him using the earth and rock to ground their electrified tendrils.

As if she could read the satyr's mind, the warrior drew her battle axe and promptly followed Turf up the make shift stairway, swinging wildly at the creatures who were trying their best to steal her balance. Armina was completely awed by the new mage's ability, that was until the stone she stood upon began to falter just a little. “Whoaaaaaa there Turf, hold it together”, she shouted.

Keeping an eye on his team members while they were busy trying to attach the hooks, Turf’s concentration faltered and the earth he summoned to the skies began to tremble. Seeing Arimina jumping from one rock to the other as she battled the wraiths, he knew her life was in his hands so he concentrated even harder to keep control over the suspended rocks.

Ravensong watched the dark clouds forming around the Frenchman and was glad that Turf and Armina seemed to have an idea of how to take care of the wraiths.

Watching the Squirrel come into view she swallowed hard and took a deep breath to calm herself. Talking with Max and Fern they'd come to the decision that it would be best to slide down the cables to the Squirrel and attach the hooks and wait there to protect the inn should the battle up above go badly.

Kabe who hated storms was hiding out below deck and a part of Ravensong wished she could join him, she had suggested to her sister and Max that their owls go below deck as well as she worried that they would be swept away in the winds.

Max agreed with the plans and glanced at Tinker who had fluffed herself into a ball of feathers on his shoulder. He didn't need to say a word as Tinker understood the conversation. She imposed herself upon Fern's other shoulder to motherly shoo Fern's little owlet down to Kabe, where the three of them would spend the evening together till the battle had passed.

Trusting in Gaston's plan to get the hooks guided down to the inn below, Ravensong grabbed hold of one of the cables, gave one last nod to her fellow adventurers and leaped overboard.

Fern, shaken by the battle taking place around them looked on worriedly as Ravensong dove towards the Wayward Squirrel, and grabbing one of the cables she braced herself before jumping after her.

Landing atop the inn and nearly losing her footing Fern held on to the cable for dear life as she looked to her companions, "Where should we attach them?" She asked, praying that Turf and Armina would be able to distract the wraiths long enough for them to secure the hooks into place.

Max followed last of the three to travel down the cables, and none too gracefully as he dodged a tendril and leapt from the ship. He grabbed the cable in time, but only his foot catching the hook actually stopped his fall. When he was low enough, Max stepped off the hook, mumbling something about rope burn and maybe a curse or two under his breath. "There should be something around the base to hook these too. Anything else, and we might pull the Squirrel apart."

Once her companions were down as well, Ravensong tried to avoid looking up at the fierce battle above, knowing that she didn't have time for distractions, "Let’s get this done. Everything going on up top will be for nothing if we can't do our part," she called to her friends, using a trellis to aid her in her journey down from the roof of the inn. Reaching the ground, she hurried around the building to where some of the support stones were located, and quickly worked on securing her hook.

With a nod Fern dared to look over the edge of the roof, experiencing a bout of vertigo when the open sky around the Wayward Squirrel’s base seemed to go on for an eternity. Looking up didn't help to ease her nerves either as she watched the stone Armina stood on threatening to crumble beneath the warriors feet, "Earth-mother save us..." she breathed, hoping that any great deity that might have been listening would guide them all to safety.

The wraiths began to flee, or so it seemed, but just as they began to fly away they formed into a larger version of themselves with a storm burning in its eyes and teeth that seemed to spin for an eternity. Turf’s stomach churned and he knew what he needed to do, “Frink, I need your help. I know you trust me and I wouldn’t ask you to do this otherwise but these wraiths are going to be the death of us all. You know what to do?” Frink nodded and flew out of Turf’s cloak where he was hiding, looking somewhat scared but sure of himself.

Turf shouted to Armina, “Get back to the ship, I have an idea!” Turf began to chant a spell, his staff glowed brightly, as the giant wraith creature started to close in on the Frenchman. His concentration was all on this spell, which caused the earth and rock that he summoned earlier to slowly descend back to the ground below. Armina jumped from one to the other and landed back into the Frenchman safely.

His spell was the same one he had shown to Eurus to impress him, a ball of fire perfectly shaped into a sphere. Frink took a deep breath and flew directly into the orb of flame. It exploded again, like it had before, but this time as the explosion happened it was absorbed by the little sprite. Frink grew in size a bit, taking on the aspects of the fire, “Now Frink, fly,” shouted Turf. Frink took off like a comet, leaving a trail of flame in his wake. He flew directly into the mouth of the giant wraith creature.

Turf winced as the creature seemed to swallow him. Then after a second or two fire light began to emit from the creature as the flaming sprite burned up the atmosphere within it. The creature dissipated into harmless wisps as Frink collapsed and reformed into his true form. Turf waved a hand in the air and the wind answered back, bringing Frink back to him.

“Thank you, dear friend, you rest now,” said Turf as he tucked Frink back into his cloak. He then turned to see that his newfound friends had safely attached all the hooks and the Wayward Squirrel was stable enough to bring to safety.

Max glanced up in time to see the fireworks in astonishment. "Remind me to buy the kid a drink later," Max awed to no one in particular. "That is, if he drinks."

Dancing with Danger After Ayla has received her instructions, she beckons the group to her and explains to them the situation. There is a bit of head shaking, and one or two distinctive blinks of surprise and alarm, but overall the group shows that they are up for this. They think.
Phineas, looking only moderately worried, listened to Ayla's instruction's as to what they had to do. He very nearly declined, seeing as personal danger was not one of his favorite things, but when he was assigned to the ranger woman, he decided to stifle that sentiment. She looked sort of dangerous. "Well then," he muttered, to no one in particular. "Guess I'll go get a quick nap while someone steers us toward our doom, eh?" Katja, for her part, has already found a place to roost and Phineas was feeling a might bit grumpy.

“Such a slacker,” the ranger accuses the bard, a trace of annoyance in her voice. She stalks to the starboard side of the ship, wherein a store of rope was housed, an idea having percolated in her brain.

Nightshade can only agree with the ranger, and uses his time to talk to the mage. “If what the book says is correct, I am going to need something on my sword to help me battle them. Do you think you have something that will give it an ice or frost edge?”

Amaryllis considers for a moment before nodding. “A frozen tear crystal should do it. Hold the blade. No, higher. There.” The mage delves into her pouch and produces the artifact. “It won’t last more than a day, I’m afraid, but then that does not matter. If our plan does not work, we likely won’t be here tomorrow anyway.”

“True,” Nightshade uttered, watching with interest as his blade grudgingly gives over to a glacial state. It would be interesting to see how long the enchantment will last, overriding the blood lust of the blade. He doubted her twenty four hour time limit- it would not hold that long. Hopefully, it would hold long enough.

Ayla stared out into the fog, deep in thought. She'd defended herself with her craft before, but never against something as odd, or nearly intangible, as this. "What kind of preparation can I make to weaken water vapor?" she thought. "The most obvious elements are heat and cold. It's simpler to generate heat via a chemical reaction than cold. Perhaps copper sulfate is the answer." She heads to the galley to visit with Gaston.

Kaiidth comes up with a way to anchor the ship. She sits as she ties rope around an arrow shaft, just below the fletching. Before doing this to the rest of her quiver of arrows she stands across the ship and tests out how the arrow will fly. Howie curls up under a tarp until Kaiidth calls him over. Feeding him some of her rations she continues to practice.

Once comfortable enough with the new trajectory of the altered arrows she continues to make a good baker’s dozen the same way just in case she misses she has a couple back ups. Kaiidth once done attaches the hooks to some rope so the animals or herself can run it across to hook into what they need to anchor into. Once done Kaiidth looked around. Now for the hard part, waiting for the attack to befall them.

Phineas lounges, as is his wont, arms behind his head and back to the railing. It is with a lazy air that he watches all the preparations being made, and he even ponders, at least once, if he should lend a hand somewhere. "eeeehhhhhh...." Katja eyes him with a modicum of feline disgust but otherwise makes no move to roust herself from her own nap.

Ayla emerges from belowdeck with the chemical compositions for Lara’s invention. The Alchemist is not precisely sure how the Vagabond will morph her hair dryer into a weapon, but she is confident her solution should work on the fog, if not the electrical aspect. She sits on the deck and begins to work feverishly with a mortar and pestle. "Thank goodness Gaston had some bluestone! I just wish it was easier to grind."

The Wraiths of Squirrel The thickening clouds crowd closer as the ship flies into the heart of the storm. Looking up, Ayla notices that the fog has nearly solidified. Taking a deep breath and wishing for luck, she calls out, "Look alive, people, things are about to get interesting!”

It is then the bard pushes from his laze, quite easily balancing on his feet despite the sway and dip of the buffeted ship, to approach Kaiidth. "All right, show time, Ranger," He calls above the howl of the wind. "Well, once everyone is in position, I mean. You know." He turns then to squint through the fog, awaiting the positioning of Nightshade, the readiness of Amaryllis and Lara, and above all, the go sign from Ayla.

“Are you ready?” Kaiidth moves toward the rail. “Once I am over I’ll tug on the rope twice. When you have all the hooks set, pull on the same rope twice so I can start pulling the ship closer. Okay?" She asked Phineas as she knocks an arrow back. Taking a more proper footing, she releases the bow. The arrow hits a nice strong surface, Kaiidth tugs on the rope before going to transform. Kaiidth transforms painfully, her vision clouded with spots. After what feels like an eternity, but is really only a few minutes later, she's a black fox. The markings almost completely disappear in the dark fur only viable in the right light.

Kaiidth uses her head to slide the bow and quiver over her. She nods at Phineas before getting up onto the rope. she waits for a second for wind to stop before heading across the rope onto the other side. She takes her time to make sure not to fall. Her ears are held back against her head to tune out the noises behind her worried about her friends and comrades.

Arriving at the other side, Kaiidth takes off her pack and shakes out before transforming back. She pulls on the rope two times to communicate she'd arrived fine on the other side and was going to start shooting rope over to tie the hooks with. Kaiidth starts to make slip knots so she can tighten the knot and bring the ship into safety. Knocking back the arrows one at a time she shoots checking to make sure They all hit a solid taget. Kaiidth sits waiting by the rope the walked across to be pulled on twice to start bringing the ship closer And into the safety.

Phineas nods to Kaiidth, trying to effect a calm, casual air and only shuddering slightly in the expectant doom about to rain upon their heads. "Got it," he confirms, ever so suavely, barely a quiver in his voice. He assumes his position, fingers only a little whitened in their grip of the rope when she turns into a fox. He also tries, and mostly succeeds, in ignoring the pulsating storm about to break, because peeing his pants would be soooo not cool. Thankfully, there is something to distract him- a tightrope act in mid air.

He watches the ranger cross and near about faints in fright. "Maybe we should have tied a rope about her waist or something?" the comment to Katja. Her kittihood feigns indifference to the entire proceeding of course. Phineas watches the remainder of the crossing, heart in throat, hoping very hard that Kaiidth should not fall and leave him with the balancing act. When she does not, he breathes a sigh of relief, and at her signal, he carefully secures the hooks to the rope, using a double hitched knot because they look so cool, and tugs twice in response that all is ready.

"If it's a force field you need, I think I can make it work," Amaryllis says. Burnsley scrambles from the mage's feet to her shoulder. She shuts her eyes and focuses, chanting a spell repeatedly, and moments later the floors glow creating a protective barrier. The barrier shimmers slightly in the air, settling over Kaiidth, to protect her in her important work. It is draining for the mage, this field of protection cast at such a distance, but she is not done yet. With a twist of her power she wrests part of the shield to the rope, and to the Dancers currently franticly trying to get the hooks across to the ranger. She is not sure how long she can hold as she feels the wraiths beat against the barrier. Lara grimaced as she set about chopping up a plastic milk carton from the galley to fit under the end of her hairdryer, using duct tape to secure it. Glancing at Amaryllis, the strain of the magic keeping her new found friends protected was tangible on her face. "Ayla, do you think these chemicals will work on a cool setting? I'd love to use the dryer on 'hot' but it might just make a melty mess. I’m sorry to see my trusty hairdryer get wasted, but needs must".

The Runes on Nightshade's cursed blade change from blood red to an eerie pulsating blue. He's eyes however remain focused on the wraiths watching for the shimmers of water. Suddenly and without warning he moves forward and swings his blade at the fog. A shrill howl of pain rang through the air and for a split second the entire group managed to see a wraith fully materialized in front of them clutching his chest in agony before he vaporized again.

Nightshade immediately returned to his post and his icy blue eyes kept sweeping the deck for any stray wraiths without even a glance he called out to Lara who was aiming the DIY wraith blaster (as she calls it) she made at random points.

"Henderson, make sure that contraption of yours actually does what it's supposed to do, even I can't hold back all of these things on my own."

Before she could even respond Nightshade threw his blade at Ayla the Alchemist! The blade barely missed her by an inch "HEY! WHAT'S WRONG WITH..." the howls of a wraith alerted her to it, they being pinned down by the sword... only for a second before it's body turned back into vaper.

"STAY AWAY FROM THE EDGES! MUST YOU BE TOLD?" The minute Nightshade grabbed his sword he felt the familiar pain of the curse, it won't be long before the sword breaks through Amaryllis’ ice spell and reverts back to its original blood state. His eyes glared at the leader of the wraiths, quickly finding its vulnerable watery spots.... just incase... the watery shimmers had a strong current going through them and every so often their crackles can be loudly heard. A jab at those would slow the thing down but it'll probably electrocute him as well...

Hoping Nightshade wasn't shouting at her, Lara leant as far as she dare over the edge of the Flying Frenchman, the acrid smell of the electrified fog made her choke. She aimed the battery powered 'Wraith Blaster' as far as possible into the fog, determined to disperse at least some of the foul wraiths with the chemicals Ayla had mixed, hoping at the same time to make the way a bit clearer so Kaiidith can see to perform her task.

"Damn it looks like its running out" Lara yelled across to Phineas, "I'll come and help pull the lines back, that's if I dont get walloped by these ugly brutes."

Turning to Lara, Phineas beckons to her, shouting, "Please do, if you can!"

"I've got another batch almost ready!" Ayla yells over to Lara. "Keep it on the cool setting, please. Adding heat to this compound would be counterproductive." Glancing around at the bustling team, she freezes as Nightshade's sword lands an inch from her nose. Hearing his warning, she moves away from the rail.

Lara nods and sprints over to the alchemist, quickly refilling her weapon of choice. She then dodges around the deck, narrowly missing a tongue of electricity and turns, mid dodge, to fire on the offending creature. As she nears the franticly tying bard, she takes aim for another arm of wraith that seeped in around Amaryllis’s shield. Turning her head, she notices Nightshade battling back another. The shield is weakening. “Hurry!” she urges.

“This is the last one!” Phineas calls back, letting the hook go to the strong pull of Kaiidth on the other end of the rope. It is all up to the ranger now. Hand over hand, with what seems like excruciating slowness, but is in reality steady determination, the ranger pulls the hooks to the un-seated inn. She deftly unties it from its rope and anchors the last into place. It is the same two- tug signal she gives to Phineas to let him know all is ready.

“All right!” screams the bard, “She’s got them set! Let’s pull it into position!” He hauls on the line himself as if that will do anything at all, as the Frenchman slowly draws the building along. Just then he sees a flash of light. “Nightshade- behind you!”

Nightshade hisses as a jolt of energy barely glances him yet burns a scar upon his arm. It is but one of many, he is well accustomed to pain and yet the shocking slap jolts him momentarily. Lara uses the last of her blasting powder to beat back the fiend that struck him, giving him just enough time to recover from the shock. Rather than pausing to give thanks or some other unnecessary pleasantry, the dark elf growls his defiance to his enemies and unleashes a frenzy of frozen strikes, seeking to find the center whether or not he dies of a full on electrical shock. So ferocious is he that the wraith is briefly forced to retreat- just briefly. The thing seems to double in size as it comes right back against his adversary. It is just at that moment that the magical shield begins to fail and crack against the might of the horrid host.

However, Nightshade’s maniacal attack earned them the necessary moment needed.

“Now, Lucien!” Ayla calls out for the Frenchman’s captain. The ship plunges forward, moving the skyward Wayward Squirrel into position between the beacons. The wraiths howl in hatred as they try to penetrate the double triangle of protection but they cannot get through.

Midnight Dancers Recharge Kaiidth had changed to fox and crossed again to the ship the moment the Wayward Squirrel was safe. She hopped aboard and went through the discomfort of changing again, taking just a second to recover from so many changes in so short a period. Phineas shakily joins her, as does Lara, in the trek to Amaryllis, Ayla and Nightshade.

“Well,” sighs the alchemist, rubbing her wrist across her brow, “That was difficult but we made it. Is everyone all right?”

“Nightshade is injured,” Lara points out, “Amaryllis is nearly spent.” The mage accepts help from the ever gallant (when not in danger) bard in setting down to rest, murmuring her gratitude.

The dark elf scowls, reluctant to admit to any weakness. Kaiidth produces a gentle, healing poultice to cool the burn anyway, and over Nightshade’s objections, sees to his injury. “Don’t be like that,” chides the ranger, “none of us are untouched and if there is something we can do to ensure we are in top form, that is our duty.”

Ayla hides a slight smile behind her hand, and turns from her companions to glance over the rail. Around them is calm, and yet just outside the protective beams- no, she will not dwell on that just yet. She is relieved they had made it through and are all more or less in one piece. She knows too soon they will be in action again, but for this brief respite, she is truly grateful.
When Lucien threw the book, Ilaera reached out to catch it, almost letting it go if not for the fact she had both hands trying for the item. "A monster compendium for Unseelie creatures..." she reads out loud to the others, "It appears 'someone' wants us to read this entry." she said with air quotes, knowing of course who it was that had highligted it.

"The Wraiths of Darkfog." Ilaera starts to read the entry for herself, making sure to take note of important parts. After she read the entirety of the entry, she started to give a summary to the others aloud. "It says these creature attack in packs, they look like clouds, with a thick mass in the middle, tendrils of thick fog that whip through the air and from which they can shoot light. They have two orbs of light, which appear to be their eyes. The one that appears to have a storm starting under the eyes, is the group leader." She paused and gave a worried sigh "Please don’t try to get bitten."

"How are we supposed to identify these creatures?" Esme asked, not yet having turned away from the book to see they were only yards away at the center of the ship.

"Well.." Ilaera responded. "If I read the description good enough, they look a lot like that." she says, while pointing towards some very foggy creatures that are slowly creeping towards the group.

Jett couldn't help but chuckle, even if it might be a bit rude. It was pretty obvious what they looked like. Especially as the monsters were staring at them. Those big glowing eyes peering in to their souls as they stood around planning an attack.

Zephy blinks her eyes a few times after hearing the description of the wraiths, waiting to see what the others were thinking before giving her own plan a start. Though she did give Jettison a bit of a glare for his laugh. "What about this ordeal is funny exactly?" Fluffykins retches silently a few times until a large hairball glops out onto the deck of the Flying Frenchman. "We feel pretty much the same on this, eh old boy?"

Before Jetty could say anything, Potch cawed "DAFT"

The Man swatted at his pet, making noises to impersonate the animal. He seemed to busy with his taunting to give an actual reply to Zephy.

Fluffykins grunts and glares up at Zephy's companions. The girl rolled her eyes at the two beside her, though especially at Jet. He may be older than her but damn if he acted his age. But they were the least of her worries right now. So she brushed it off. "I'm sure Sashi can take on those wraith things much better than I ever could, even with my deft cattle prodding skills. I did study under Bordertown's most renowned lariat thrower for a few months though, so maybe I can help Izzy with the hooks?"

"Let me do a quick search through my vials and see if I have enough to make Phaeri and Potch larger so people will be able to fly on them. Its been a while since I used it...I could have sworn I had it in this pocket.." She trailed off for a moment, getting quieter as she spoke to herself. A thought came to her though and she stopped searching to say "I will warn you though you guys only have about 15 minutes and then the elixir will wear off. So we have to be quick about this." Venus told the others, already looking back down and shuffling through her bag to find the exact potion she was thinking of.

Jettison seemed to have finished his fight with the bird and now had a very serious look on his face, he spoke directly to Zephyrine. "Ya' aint goin alone if I got anythin' ta say bout it. I might be stayin' back 'ere, but someone 'as ta go wif ya." He paused to look at the others, not wanting to decide for them who would go. But he hoped there would be a valiant knight of sorts to protect her as she focused on the hoo

“I will go with Zephyrine” Ilaera said then. “Phaeri will listen to me, I know what she can and can’t do” she continued, looking affectionately over at her avian friend. “Besides that, I’m also very handy with my bow and arrows, so my weaponry skills will make sure she will be ok. Close combat may not be the safest where we will be, for both the birds and ourselves. Although I do think it’s a good idea to take Fluffykins with you too” Ilaera says to Zephyrine. “I’m sure she will protect you wherever she can."

"Good on ya' mate." Jett said, back to his usual cheesey grin. He snapped his fingers and Potch was quick to hop in to the air. "Wif' yer knowledge of the avian species, itll be best. Though Potch is a pretty easy goin' creature."

"YOU EASY ONE!" The bird cawed as it landed atop a stack of barrels, spitting at its owner from the distnace.

"Oh shut yer' yap." Jett said, turning away in a teasing manner. It seemed their bickering was never ending, though even with it you could see the tight bond they had. Most was just for fun.

"Fluffykins goes where I go, as long as those giant birds can handle having a cat on their back. I can ask Fluffy to keep clawing to a minimum but I make no gaurantees when it comes to hairballs." Esme smiled big with the last bit, knowing she would likely ride potch, as it would be silly for Ilaera to not be on her own companion.

"I'll stay behind and continue looking for my healing vials. Just try not to get too hurt please." Venus was already setting out a few vials for easy reach, then looked towards Jett and said she also had some spells that could use the magic of his voice. "I think it will help speed up the process of them. We just have to figure out which spells we need."

Venus looks over at Bruce who was watching everything going on and just shaking with anticipation. "Bruce my little buddy, how about we put you to work." She wandered over to pick up Bruce and whispers to him, that she needed him to help protect the group with his webs. Once done telling her little friend what was needed, she sets him back down. Bruce scurries off to start making his webs.

Sashi jumped up and explained she can take the creatures down on her own, even though she knew someone would want to accompany her. She tapped her body in a few spots to make sure all her weapons were in place.

Esme looked to Sashi and reached out, grabbing her shoulder gently. "No need to do things alone in this, we are in this together, so we will work together. I’m sure I can be of help during the fight." Esme looked around, searching for her cat. "Nighteyes can be of service too and we can take your companion Lorne too, as I’m sure a fox can also be of help in a battle also."

When she felt the hand on her shoulder, Sashis first instinct was to swipe it away, but as Esme began to speak to her so gently, she let it be. It made her feel good to know this girl was already so protective of her. She was even more pumped up now. "Come Lorne, it is time to fight!" Even though she still thought she could do it by her lonesome, it would make the team stronger. Which was important for the road ahead of them.

Right before the two girls ran off, Jettison chimed in. "Even if I look like a one trick pony, I do got' some skills with sharp objects n' all. Once I get my musical work done, I can back ye' up." As he spoke he pulled a butterfly knife from his pocket and twirled it around, showing his ability to handle such a tool.

"Esme'll do good ta' elp. Who knows if weaponry will even do th' bastards any damage. We might end up relying on th' more...'other worldly skills' as it were."

"We will be waiting then for your help Jett." Esme said, giving him a kind smile before grabbing her weapons and running towards the beasts. Sashi following not far behind with both companions at her tail.

While going through the many vials in her fanny pack, Venus located the one she was looking for in the small blue vial and warned Jett and Ilaera again that they only have about 15 minutes before the elixir wears off, "Be quick, and stay safe!" She said as she handed the glass tubes over to them

Jett trotted over to Venus, when he saw she had found the item she had been digging around for. He knew time was of the essence. He whistled and Potch was just as quick to land on his masters arm. As eager as it was to do as Jettison asked, it wasnt exactly fond of drinking things It had little knowledge of.

Jetty kept his left arm out, Bird balanced and waiting. He carefully opened the vial and held it above the Ravens beak. Pouring it only when he could see the mouth open.

Potch ruffled his feathers and lept in to the air, knowing Venus said it would be quite quick to take effect.

"Be helpful, n' listen ta what the lady says!" Jet yelled to his companion. Knowing of course he would do just that. He couldnt help but pester the animal.

"YOU ONE TO TALK!" he replied, far enough above the ship now that it was a bit challenging to hear. But he could see Jettison sticking his tongue out, which showed he had heard.

Ilaera grabbed the potion that was handed over to her by Venus and quickly gave it to Phaeri. She could tell from the banter beside her that Jettison was doing the same. The hawk drank the potion without any hesitation. Since Ilaera and Phaeri trust each other completely, both of them knew the other would always do whatever is best in the current situation.

When the potion had done it’s work, the birds were just big enough for Zephyrine and Ilaera to get saddled in on their backs. Ilaera was sitting on the back of her hawk, making sure she wouldn't hurt Phaeri. Since she wasn’t sure how long the potion would work, she only had been given an estimated time after all, so she wanted to leave quickly and fulfil the task they were given.

"Zephyrine, try to hurry up a bit, we have to try and be quick, as the birds can turn back anytime" Ilaera said with urgency in her voice, this was more frightening than she had expected. Today was not the day she wanted to fall to her death, the journey had just begun!

Zephyrine loops her lariat and satchel of hooks over her shoulder and nimbly hops onto the now small aircraft sized raven. Both her and Illaera decided two hooks each would be enough. It was best to have the other two just in case of emergency later on the ship.

She pats the spot in front of her and Fluffykins launches himself up onto her thigh before kneading the raven between it's shoulders. Zephy feels the bird shudder and hopes it can find some sort of inner-birdy strength to allow for some tolerance to her ill tempered feline, at least for the duration of this particular mission.

Potch, who wasn't so amused by the furry animal, tried his best to get past it. Though in flight as he felt the claws dig in to his feathers said "NO HAIRBALL!" Seeming quite serious about it.

Back on the ship, Venus looked over at Bruce and saw he had a nice little pile of webs going and she noticed he had collected a few other goodies too. Twigs, rocks, and leaves are all gathered as well. "Well now aren't you just a smart little fellow there Bruce. I can put those together with one of my other handy little vials and we can have some mini bombs. They might come in need."

As he got back to work, Jett looked over his shoulder to see how Potch was working with the new larger size. It didnt seem to phase him one bit. Not even having human sitting on him did. Likely due to the fact that Jett would sit action figures on him when they were in their little prank wars. But what did give him a bit of a jagged look in his eye was the cat. Neither he or his owner really cared for the creatures. Though being a bird Potch felt that dislike a bit more.

Jett knew he could handle it though. There were many things worse in life than a cat. Espcially now with this smokey cloud monsters on their tail. He sat himself down near Venus, knowing they were working hand in hand. He wasnt sure yet which insturment would be best suited to the job. So his trunk was nearby. If he needed to sing, the melodica was out of the question. And if he had to be able to move the accordion might be a bit on the heavy side. So he had a feeling he would be going for the violin or fiddle. But tried not to set his expectations and then need to restart his process of getting ready.

Esme began her fight, together with Nighteyes. Since Jettison and Venus weren’t done with the potions and spells yet, Esme sent Nighteyes over to the creatures. She told her cat to be safe and stay out of the way, she only had to find out who they were up against.

Sliding her fingers down her companions back, Sashi talks to Lorne in a low voice telling him to help out nighteyes, but to be careful, before grabbing her own sword and begin her fight with her commrads. She keeps at her task of keeping the monsters away, destroying them if she can. The blade of her swords slides into the creatures eyes, putting out one of the orbs of light.

Venus tossed a scroll at Jettison and said "I got it! It should be just enough to block a bit of the lightning. Im also making a lightning rod to go behind us, just in case! I may not be a vagabond, but I have some tricks up my sleeve!" She winked at the man "Anyway, be quick, we have no time to spare!"

Jetty grabbed the spell, reading over it before he picked up his violin. The paper was at his feet so he could see it if needed, but he was quite sure he had it down. Now to just add song to it.

"Fall, Fall, the death toll ta' th' light n' sound. No more warnin' need be fer it feels ta flee. Only a second more, shall we need this score. Ta heed its bright n' frightening might. But only will it be fer' th' song we see, ta cast shadow no more."

As he sang he plucked away at the violin, not even bothering to use the bow. He didnt have time to really compose anything and hoped this little irish sounding jig would do.

Venus encouraged Bruce to keep at it and tells him, "Bruce sweetie, you are doing so good. I promise a nice reward after this is all over!" As she spoke she finished setting up the rod, which was quick to draw any leftover lightning to it, she hoped so very much that it would keep the ship safe. If it went down, they were a goner.

Venus was not comfortable with battles but knows what needs to be done to get out of this unhurt, or as unhurt as possible in such a situation. She throws a bomb or two and is busy keeping her eyes out on the others to see how badly they get hurt so she knows what vials she needs to pull.

When Venus looked down in her fanny pack for a second gaain, some sharpnel got a bit too close for comfort puncturing the leather. Then in an instant she felt a sharp pain in her left arm. "OUCH!" screams Venus.

It caught Jetts attention as he was just completing the melody after the song and he said "Ya' all right over there?"

She just nodded, biting her lip as she used her ok arm to grab a bottle. Carefully she tipped it to pour out a light purple substance. With in seconds the glow around it became brighter, then just as quickly went out, leaving the wound all healed up

When the monsters begin to fight back Sashi decides to put her back to Esme's, whispering to her to stay back to back for as long as they could. Ducking out of the way of a monster Sashi spots a creature coming from the fog to the right side of them. Sashi calls out to Esme to duck down as she stands and plunges her sword into the monters eyes

Esme quickly stooped down to the ground, fe

<p>I could feel myself start huffing as I turned to my bodyguard who was trying to avoid meeting my eyes. I tried breathing deeply to calm myself but it didn&;t do me any good.</p>
<p>&quot;Would you mind telling me what this is all about? Who was that fox? Where are we going? And who are all these people?! WHAT is going on?!&quot;</p>
<p>I gestured in the general direction of the group of strangers who have apparently gathered for something big. Something I am not a part of. Or aware of, for that matter. But it had now become increasingly clear to me that I was not going to turn up for my performance in Dueseltun. My reputation would be ruined!</p>
<p>I didn&;t even want to start wondering about the dark fog we were quickly heading towards. What was it the fox said about creatures attacking us?

Before I could keep interrogating Brynna - who had yet to answer my questions, one of the strangers started pulling me away from her. He was a dapper dark-skinned gentleman who had a certain charm about him. Maybe it was that curious accent of his.</p>
<p>&quot;Wait, Bry-&quot;</p>
<p>I felt myself being led away from my so-called bodyguard.</p>
<p>&quot;I uh... thank you. I can show you my wardrobe some other time but I really-&quot;</p>
<p>I was startled as girl&;s head suddenly appeared between me and the stranger. She was dirty and ragged-looking but she had a giant grin on her mischievous face. I wasn&;t sure who she was talking to - us or herself, but she didn&;t make any sense.

Quote by Cali
Half falling from the sail netting and hanging upside down between the surprised Alchemist and Bard, Cali burst into laughter. &quot;Ha, that&;s not what Mr. Whiskers says!&quot; Still chuckling to herself she pulls back upright and looks off into the clouds. Lightning flashes and she shivers dramatically. &quot; You know what we could really use right now?&quot; she says, gazing at the approaching darkness. &quot;Sunshine. Lots and lots of sunshine. Teacups wouldn&;t be bad either,&quot; she adds as an afterthought and then scampers back up the rigging to vanish in the sails above. Faint strains of &quot;I&;m a little teapot&quot; float down from above.

Quote by Angelica
&quot;Sunshine? Teapots? What is she going on about?&quot;</p>
<p>These were some of the most peculiar people I have ever met. Am I still on the same planet? Apparently not.</p>
<p>&quot; Is anybody going to enlighten me about what is happening? Is this someone&;s idea of a prank? Because if it is, it&;s not very funny.&quot;</p>
<p>I spoke to no one in particular as I tried to figure out what was going on. Some distance away, I overheard a young woman explaining about what sounded to me like &;fog monsters&;. It seemed to be important but I couldn&;t really catch her words over the chaotic wind. We were fast approaching something dangerous and I was going to be caught in the fray. Of that much, I was certain.

Quote by Aria
As the strains of the teacup song echoed through the dark misty clouds I had an epiphany.</p>
<p>&quot;I have a good idea of how to defeat those fog monsters,&quot; I yelled through the chaos. &quot;I&;ve encountered Mage created cloud creatures in the past, not to mention the Tempest herself.&quot;</p>
<p>I was going to leave it at that but Dax sent me a mind picture that made me realize I needed to explain.
I quickly described the process to my crew mates. &quot;Inside my bag is a mixture of volcanic ash from the high mountains, fungal spores from the lowest desserts, and a few secret ingredients. Im going to cause agglomeration of the particles that make up the fog clouds and cause rain. The fog monsters will have their structure completely altered and be rendered neutral - that means they won&;t be able to use lightning.&quot; As I finished my explanation I knew I had confused some of my crew but I figured I could explain it all in detail later.</p>
<p>As I took to the ratline I looked back over my shoulder at the crew. Their facial expressions displayed their lack of confidence in me. &;I&;ll show them just how clever I can be&; I mind spoke to Dax.
&;What are you planning exactly?&; Dax questioned, not trying to hide his worry.</p>
<p>Ignoring Dax I started up the ratline and grabbed my satchel just to double check to make sure my bag of powder was still there; it was. &;Don&;t fret Dax - try to look calm. Or at least do something useful by telling me where the nearest fog monster is.&; I couldn&;t respond to Dax anymore, I needed to concentrate.</p>
<p>I pulled myself up to the main mast up top and secured myself with a rope to one of the foot ropes.
While I was on my many journeys I learned that cloud-type monsters have one major weakness that make them very vulnerable, they are inherently unstable. I know that all I need to do is change their cloud structure which would alter the dynamics of their entire being. At home, with the Stealth Nomads, we even use this to help bring rain or clear a thick fog.</p>
<p>Looking around I can&;t see anything, the fog is so thick and formless. Pulling out my bag I fill the mouth-horn up with air.</p>
<p>The deck below erupts with screaming and just when I turned to look I felt my neck hairs stand on end; a monster was forming close by.
&;LOOK OUT! ONE IS RIGHT ABOVE YOU,&; Dax mind shouted at me!!</p>
<p>Rolling into a crouch I waited until the monster materialized. He was bigger and scarier than I remember fog monsters ever being. Without waiting for him to get off a single charge towards me, I jump up at him and blast him with the powder air from my horn. He lets out a bright flash of light and starts to drip down towards the deck in a thick tar-like black rain.</p>
<p>The crew breaks out in happy cheering on deck but there is no time to celebrate; my work has only just begun.

Angelica looked to be ramping up to a full on hissy fit from the fire in her eyes and the venom in her voice. I opened my mouth to try and sputter out something that might placate her when the strange man with the fun accent (The Prof, Brynna... Gotta remember people&;s names, woman!) blessedly stepped right in and began to smooth down her ruffled feathers.</p>
<p>Before I could snap my jaw closed again, he was gliding her over towards the cargo holds where her bags were saying something about how her clothes could save us...I don&;t get it and I&;m ok with that. I&;ll take my temporary reprieve from her fury however and wherever I can get it!</p>
<p>I turned back towards Aria and Mal to discuss what looked a whole lot like our impending doom, when from the corner of my eye, Cali suddenly dropped down out of the rigging talking about sunshine and teacups of all things. Her abrupt drop into my range almost ended ugly, but I quickly tucked my pistol back into its holster before anyone saw...I think. And when I heard what she was saying and then singing, I couldn&;t help it...I busted out laughing at the sheer absurdity of the last 10 minutes of my life! I couldn&;t stop laughing. I heard Vixen giggling, which just intensified my laughter to a point where I had tears streaming down my face,my sides began to ache and I had to bend over to try and catch my breath.

&quot;Ah si, si, Mamzelle! We will be needing the teapot, but the tea-non, non! En prie, please go find exactly any teapot, or anything with a spout like one and meet us here! Vite! Vite, chere!&quot; Seeing Angelica is still nearby, &quot;Chere-you shall be to save the day...run along with me! Your wardrobe might be our greatest hope!!! Je sais that in your wardrobe is a gown you no longer love...I shall buy you the 2 loveliest gowns when we reach civilization but we need your least favorite gown right NOW!&quot;</p>
<p>Taking her arm a bit tightly, I guided HRH away from her intent glaring.
Using a mixture of charm and forceful charm to wheedle a dress from Angelica Faye was not easy, but it was possible. I soon clenched a velvet gown in my hands-it was beautifully made, but it&;s color was...unfortunate. I ran back down the passage tossing a grin and a &quot;Merci, chere!&quot; over my shoulder.

Quote by Angelica
&quot;Well I certainly have no idea what you would need my least favorite dress for, but if it will get you to leave me alone so I can address these appalling circumstances with Brynna, then fine! It&;s in my bags in that storage room over there. The green velvet dress at the top has a small ink spot near the hem anyway, so I suppose you can have that one.&quot;
&quot;Just what did I get myself into...?&quot; I muttered to myself as I shook my head in disbelief. I just gave away one of my dresses. To a total stranger. Even if it was one of my least favorite ones. I was the one who was supposed to do the charming and persuading, NOT the other way around. And then the poor dress got ripped apart by the dark-skinned man and I just stood there and watched! Oh well... I should just think of this as charity. After all, he sounded as though he was in urgent need so why not help out the poor man?

Quote by The Prof
I had no sooner gotten the gown when Cali came pelting around the corner holding an improbable vessel...looked like a large, dented genie lamp! For plant the watering? For inexpressible deeds? Perhaps-what it had been was no longer of matter.</p>
<p>When I told Cali &quot;Ah, precis the thing!&quot; I was glad to hear my voice was steady with this young ragamuffin-and kindly despite the urgency. (Young ladies who do not mind being dirty often become brilliant chemists!)</p>
<p>&quot; Can you come with me chere? We need items that will be in the ship&;s refuse-and only you and I are dressed for likely deeds of that.&quot;</p>
<p>After a brief search we locate the ship&;s waste pile leaning precariously against the portal to the incinerator. We waste no time tearing into the assorted waste. Cali finds 2 pieces of rubbery sheeting, and I finds 3 badly damaged pieces of sheet metal.</p>
<p>&quot;&;Mamzelle...please tell the others I will come very soon with help!, and por favor, find as much dust, dirt, dust of the saw...You understand what we must have? Small absorbent particles!&quot; She nodded and trotted away, I was glad that the chat followed her. Les chats make me sneeze.</p>
<p>I run to my cabin and tear my bags open and yank out a selection of hand tools. I was raised to never cause to the ladies a distress, tu sais? So I had not bothered telling them that when I run off to beg a dress, and trash, that I had no plan.&quot; But I found inspiration in that trash.</p>
<p>I build a small hand bellower from some of the metal and some of the rubber, you know bellower? A puff-puffer? The rest of the rubber I cuts into long straps and stuff them in my pockets along with a couple of busted speaker magnets. For why the magnets? That are handy always!</p>
<p>The rest of the sheet metal I hammering into a crude propeller shape. It is off balance, and dented in places, but I thinks it will work-it has to! it simply has to! Using an old hand drill I put into the plant waterer a hole very small. Into this hole very small I fit the nose of the bellower. The puff puffer? When the bellows I squeeze-out of the nose comes air very forcefully! Merci, &;ti Bon Ange!!!!A bit more tinkering fits the fan to the spout of the whatthehellisthisthing Et fin, I tear the heavy velvet gown (HRH&;s unwilling gift!) into strips. They are the shoved with the rubber strips in mes poches.</p>
<p>I grab my whatthehellisthisthing, and run as light I can to the action.</p>
<p>The ragamuffin hands me a sackful of wondrous stuff-her dust is crumbly and very absorbent
-there was no time to ask where-and really, it didn&;t matter how she obtained it. This ragamuffin has twice saved the day!</p>
<p>The brilliant electrical charges from the awful fog were arcing everywhere, we could be hit any second! It is in the danger where I am now, and it is dislikeable. From my pocket I pull the rubber strips, and is of these I wrap and wrap and wrap around my boots until they are thickly covered in rubber. If I had now to waltz or run it would the hopeless be-but I am now safe of the shockings!</p>
<p>I grasp the bulkhead of the ship-WHAT! surprised you are that there are many words I do not know in the of your language, but I know &;bulkhead?&; I&;m from de islands, mon!</p>
<p>I pour a handful of the dust into the weird lamp and began furiously pumping the bellows. I am now pointing the &;nozzle&; at the fog monsters and begin blowing puffs of dust at them. The silica-rich dust is a mighty desiccant, and began to demolish the fog by simply absorbing. I look a great indeed fool to be holding up myAllmyGodsdonotletthisthingbeasomethingfortheladies!!! but beautifully it works!

Quote by Vixen
Nice way to start the adventure I suppose Vixen thought to herself and giggled. She wondered if she could stuff one of those fog monster things but didn&;t know how you would even catch a cloud creature let alone what you would stuff it with...marshmallow fluff maybe? She giggled again. She always seemed to get the giggles when things were tense. Very inappropriate she knew but she could not help it. She heard Cali from somewhere above singing the teapot song and that got her giggling again... loudly, with an occasional snort thrown in. Then the singing stopped, Cali went wandering past with what looked like a bag full of dirt or kitty litter? Then The Prof went running by holding some kind of contraption. And then, there was Cali, squatting next to her wide eyed and excited.

Quote by Cali
&quot;VIXEN! I was SO wrong! We don&;t need teapots right now, what we are is SPIDERS! And when the rain tries to wash away the spiders then what we really need is for the sun to come out!&quot; She grinned like she had just solved a puzzle.</p>
<p>&quot;I saw a signal mirror up in the crow&;s nest earlier - add some light and an amplifier spell to give it some extra kick and you can dry up all those nasty thingerbobbers!&quot;

Quote by Vixen
&quot;Cali, my girl. You are brilliant!&quot; Vixen exclaimed and hugged her. She sneezed once or twice at the dust coming off of Cali and backed away a little. &quot; We&;ve got the mirror and the spell is no problem but light source hmmm... Oh hey those docking lights should work nicely!&quot; She yelled excitedly. &quot;Follow me!&quot; she yelled to Cali so she would be heard over the din.</p>
<p>She jumped backed up on the rigging and began to climb. Cali passed her quickly skittering up the netting with ease only leaving little puffs of dust trailing behind her. This got Vixen laughing again. This would not be a great time to pee my pants she giggled looking down to see people perched below her. &quot;Stop making me laugh&quot; she yelled to Cali who just looked down at her quizzically.</p>
<p>Reaching the crows nest she jumped in after Cali and helped her move the mirror into position. She quickly put a magnifying spell on the mirror. The light shining on the mirror intensified and created a blinding light cloud that seemed to mix in with and slow down the lightning creatures. It was like their clouds were thicker and just a little harder to maneuver. It wasn&;t killing them but it slowed them down a lot.</p>
<p>Satisfied that it was the best she could do on short notice. She nodded to Cali and they started to climb back down. Cali was like a spider so agile and quick. Vixen reached the bottom and after a high five with Cali went to join the others gathered around the grappling hooks. As she approached, she heard they were talking about using the ropes and some magnets to get to the Inn. Sounded fun!</p>
<p>She loved the feeling of weightlessness when hanging on the side of the ship. She started clicking her high heel boots and singing
&quot;Picture yourself on a boat in the sky, with marshmallow clouds and chilling cries, something zaps you and you smack it quite slowly, a girl with dust in her eyes..<em>bum bum bum</em>... Vixen in the sky with diamonds...&quot;

Misfits Muster up Some Madness The misfits look at each other and try not to be discouraged with this crazy mission ahead of them. "Don't worry, we can do this!" Encouraged Jenna. This made Leaf grin. He knew there was a reason he loved this bard. He grabbed some rope from his pack. "She's right, let's get going on tethering the Wayward Squirrel before trouble shows up!"

So everyone dug through their packs and got out their rope. Lucien's crew flew the Frenchman through the fog, following Izzy's laser.

"There it is!" Shouted Anna as she pointed to an oddly familiar shape. The inn was indeed spiraling slowly through the darkness. They needed to get a bit closer if they had a chance at tethering the Wayward Squirrel.

Leaf tied one end of his rope to a grappling hook and then tied the other end to one of the masts of the ship. "We may want to coordinate our throws to the inn. I'm worried if we only do one, the rope would snap under the pressure."

Amdir and Juana nodded and got their ropes ready as well. Jenna hopped on Kwixis and turned towards her companions. "Kwixis and I will fly over to the inn. As soon as you guys throw your ropes over, I'll make sure they are tightly tethered to the inn." And with that, they flew off towards the spiraling structure.

Anna and Jilly stepped back and watched as the trio coordinated themselves and threw the ropes towards the inn. Kwixis and Jenna could be seen, swooping towards the one that Leaf launched. The grapple hook found purchase through an open window of the inn and the line pulled tightly. There was a sudden jerk on the ship and those that weren't prepared fell over. Amdir's hook found the door knob, but it threatened to snap off as soon as the rope wrapped around it.

Amdir shouted to Kwixis, "Check my line, quickly! I don't think it will hold like that!" Sure enough, the knob snapped under the pressure and the rope fell downward. Thankfully it was still tied on the other end, so Amdir was able to retrieve it.

Juana's hook did slightly better. It found the rain gutter on the corner. It seemed to be holding, but you could hear the strain as metal, wood and rope groaned in unison. Kwixis flew over to it and Jenna stood on his back to see if she could tie the rope tighter around it.

Amdir tossed her rope back over to the inn, this time it grabbed another window sill. Kwixis and Jenna flew over to inspect it and make sure that it was a good grab this time.

Everyone was so distracted by what was going on that they didn't notice the long wispy tendrils creeping towards Jenna and Kwixis. They were nearly upon them when Jilly cried out, "Jenna, Kwixis! Look out!" But it was too late. As soon as Jenna turned, she was face to face with one of the wraiths. It appeared to be laughing as it came closer to her. "Kwixis, let's get back to the ship" she murmured quietly. But when he turned to fly, they found more wraiths closing in on them.

Then Jenna heard a whoosh and a thud. Next to her head she saw an arrow stuck in the wooden door of the inn. She then heard Leaf curse as he realized his arrow had no effect on the creatures. Juana then recklessly grabbed onto her rope and slid over to the inn and grabbed onto the rain gutter. She pulled out her sword and started waving it wildly at the wraiths. Once again, they saw the futility of their actions as the sword harmlessly cut through the tendrils as though they were nothing more than smoke. The head wraith chuckled and shot a bolt of lightening towards the warrior. Her sword was like a lightening rod and the current traveled down into her and she got a massive jolt. Jenna screamed, Amdir gasped, Jilly and Anna covered their eyes and Leaf gritted his teeth. Juana tried desperately to hold onto the gutter so as not to fall off and plummet to the ground that was so far below.

But thankfully Juana distracted the wraiths long enough for Jenna and Kwixis to slip out unscathed. The angry rreign breathed fire at one wraith that discovered their escape but it did not shy back from the heat. Instead it gave him a quick zap that both of them felt. "Yeowch!!" cried Jenna. "This is horrible! We can't hit it, we can't burn it, how the heck are we going to defeat it?"

Then to their horror, the wraiths begin to gather around their leader and one by one it begins to absorb them into it's body. The monster grew into a terrible form that was bigger than the inn itself.

Anna then looks at the big creature looming ahead and just stares. "Hmm, I wonder what is fueling the electricity? If we turn off the electricity, we may be able to harm this thing." Jilly looks on from her corner and says, "I think you might be on to something."

Anna continues to study the creature while she muses and suddenly looks up, "Y'all I think the electricity is connected to it's eyes. I think if we can disable the eyes, then we will have an easier shot at it. I recently read about a spell somewhere in one of these books about a way to do that." Amdir speaks up, "Oh Lord, she's gonna get lost in the world of books. We better help her. What spell are you looking for?" Anna mumbles something about an orchestra and keeps digging. Leaf impatiently rolls his eyes and says, "We probably should've had her organize things better. We aren't going to get anywhere with this hot mess and we need to act fast."

Anna quickly stands up and holds up a tiny thin purple book, "Found it! See Symphony. Well, it's really called Dark Symphony Scroll and it is suppose to incapacitate your foes. Give me a few minutes and I will blind that sucker and y'all can have your shot at him."

Anna walks to the edge of the ship, looks out at the giant wraith and reads the words writeen on the scroll out loud. The monster hears her voice and a long tendril starts reaching towards her. Kwixis tries to divert it's attention by breathing fire on it again, but he was only successful in attracting another smokey arm towards him and Jenna.

Juana came back to her senses and saw what was happening. She was, thankfully, still hanging tightly to the rain gutter. She noticed that Kwixis was trying to divert the monster's attention away from Anna. So she reached into her pocket and pulled out a small string of fire crackers that she happened to have from last weeks celebration. She yelled out to Kwixis, "Hey Kwix! Help me light these up!" She then tossed them into the air over the wraiths head and the rreign swooped in close and shot a small breath of fire towards the fire crackers. The fuse was lit and the air was suddenly filled with very loud crackling sounds. The wraith looked upward at the commotion and the tendrils stopped moving towards Anna. It worked!

Anna finally finished the chant and a swirl of magic flies from her hands and shoots towards the eyes of the creature. The orbs suddenly grow dark and the wraith howls in distress.

"You did it Anna! The creature is blind!" Juana laughs and slashes at the creature with her sword again, but discovers that she still can't harm it. Suddenly lightening begins to shoot out in all directions. Juana ducked as one bolt zaps over her head. Unfortunately it struck the metal gutter that she was clinging to and so she once again felt the jolt go through her. This time she let go and started to fall. Jenna saw this and turned Kwixis downward towards the warrior. He grabbed her leg and carried her back up to the ship.

The others were busy dodging the random lightening bolts that were striking at them. They were also getting drenched by the water that seemed to be raining from the creature.

Leaf had had enough. "Jilly, we need to somehow turn this creature into something we can hit! Do you have any potions that can turn air and water into a solid?"

Jilly nodded. "I can create a powder potion that will turn this monster into a gelatin mass. She then runs down below deck and rummages through the cabinets in the galley. Amdir comes running in “Jilly have you figured this out yet we have to hurry.”

"I’m looking for ingredients that will work. It's not like I haven't done this before. I have a list of what I need to make this work." She hands the list to Amdir.

The two of them quickly find the items needed. A small container on one shelf holds some baking soda. Another jar has some borax powder. Amdir finds the seaweed powder in the corner and some bone dust in a bottom cabinet.

Jilly then grabs a mortar and pestle from her bag and pours all of the items into it. She grinds all the ingredients together while saying a few magical words. She then grabs several bottles and spoons powder into each one. "One, for Jenna, Juana, Leaf, Anna, Admir and finally my own." The two of them gathered up the bottles and run back up on the deck. "I got it! Everyone grab a bottle and we can throw them at the monster."

The misfits take the bottles and they get ready to throw them at the creature. "Make sure to aim directly inside the monster. I put a spell on the bottles so that the potions will break upon impact with the water." Jilly instructed.

With that, everyone threw their bottles at the creature. The potions burst and the strange powder scattered within the wraith. The water began to change into a weird gelatin-like substance. It spread throughout the tendrils and the lightening strikes and downpour ceased. The wraith struggled with it's new form. It couldn't move like it used to and floating in the air was becoming very difficult as it began to feel heavy.

"Now's our chance! Attack Misfits!" cried Leaf.

Leaf launched a volley of arrows and they pierced into the head of the creature. The creature shrieked in pain and tried to lash outward. Juana and Amdir hacked at the tendrils until they came clean off and fell to the darkness below. Jenna and Kwixis flew around the wraith, breathing fire, and burning the gelatinous beast until it shrivelled into a smelly lump of goo. With the wraiths defeated and the hooks in place, the captain of the Floating Frenchman maneuvered the Squirrel to it's proper position within the awaiting protective beam field.

As Anna and Jilly stand back and watch the rest of the group slowly eliminate the big glob of jelly, Anna turns to Jilly, "I think I'd better find some healing spells. That hit Juana just took looked vicious." Jilly nodded her head in agreement, "I agree. Amdir and Leaf look frazzled and Jenna's hair is singed. Even poor Kwixis looks burnt on his tail. I have a burn salve that will help nicely with that."
Anna turned to her bag. "I'm going to rummage through this to see what scrolls I can use." After several minutes she finally finds the one she's looking for. "Aha! How about this Soothing Current Scroll? It should work nicely for our friends." The mage and alchemist begin to help the others with their injuries. But while Jilly was applying the salve on Kwixis' tail, they heard a creak and a snap. They looked up in time to see that the rain gutter had given way. Apparently Juana had loosened it from it's brackets and the tug of the rope had finally torn it away. Juana was too exhausted and hurt to do anything, but Leaf was able to grab the rope and pull it up. He untangled the gutter from the hook and he tossed the hook back towards the inn, this time it found a satisfactory hold on the rock chimney. The inn was resecured before it floated out of the protective field.

He then turned back to Jenna and he sadly looked at her singed hair. It will take weeks for it to grow long again. Jenna teased him, "Oh, so now you're worried about how I look?" He frowned and replied, "Of course not! I'm just glad you're okay. You almost gave me a heart attack out there!" Jenna groaned as she tried to sit up and give Leaf a kiss on the cheek. "Sorry, Love, next time you can fly on the rreign and I'll shoot arrows at your head." Leaf glared at her, then burst out laughing at the absurdity of it. Jenna started to giggle too but the sharp pain in her side prevented her from having a full out laugh. She laid back down and waited for Anna to finish with her healing spell. She smiled happily. The inn was secure, the wraiths were defeated and her friends were all safe.

The way SILVER LEGENDS ROLLS Lovecraft catches the book that Gaston tosses them and looks at the bookmarked page. She shakes her head and throws it back at him, nearly hitting him. "NOPE! Not gonna happen," she says.

Fresh shaking his head in disapproval, walks over and picks up the book and apologizes to Gaston, "She has anger management issues. She will gladly help." He glares at Lovecraft as he walks back over to the group.

"Fine," she finally says, "I'm sorry. We will gladly help."

"He gets an apology and I never get anything from you," TeaRoll says mocking feelings being hurt.

"Tea, don't push your luck," TerrenaAnimula urges.

Gryffindor stands back unbelieving how disjointed the team appears to be. "I'm going to die with them," she thinks to herself. "This team is going to get me killed."

Having stayed very quiet and to herself, Witchy has started to think of the best way to dock a moving vehicle through space, "Hmmm, that sounds familiar... have I done this before?" she silently wonders, puffing away on her pipe.

She idly listens to TerrenaAnimula and Lovecraft discuss how they're going to fight off the monsters, and curiously watches TeaRoll sitting on the floor then dumping out her bag that contains a bunch of dolls. She also wonders why Fresh is being so silent and not dividing labor out to everyone.

"I suggest we take one of the other teams and toss their members out into the sky and let the..." Lovecraft stops, grabs the book from Fresh and looks over the page that was bookmarked, "...Wraiths of the Darkfog have them. That may stop them from attacking us long enough for Witchy to dock the out of control Squirrel."

"MAYBE," TerrenaAnimula suggests, "getting my arrows tipped with something that could draw the electricity from them giving you a chance to slice and dice."

"Did you just say 'slice and dice'" Lovecraft asks and then suddenly notices TeaRoll playing, stops her current discussion abruptly and turns to Tea, "Dolls? You packed DOLLS?!"

Ignoring Lovecraft's displeasure, TeaRoll begins playing with her Firebrand Reborn Sheeta and several other toys, scattering them about the deck.

"Aren't those the same dolls she had from the start of our last adventure?" TerrenaAnimula asks.

Fresh finally looks down at TeaRoll and shakes his head, "It appears so. I vaguely remember telling a tale of Firebrand."

Gryffindor remains quiet just watching them all. Not sure what to do. She is slightly amused that they are so dysfunctional and have yet survived together on missions this long. Still concerned about the tale of their missing vagabond from their last mission and how she is recovering from feather loss, she reminds herself not to get to close in case something befalls her. Growing hair back is rather difficult and it is never the same way as it was the first time (anyone that shaves can attest to that).

After watching TeaRoll play for a bit, Fresh returns to just look out into the sky watching for anything to appear, while Lovecraft and TerrenaAnimula turn back to their conversation on the best way to protect the others while docking the Squirrel from the Wraiths of Darkfog. Terrena seems adamant about not allowing Lovecraft to toss people from the ship. Witchy still listening to see if perhaps something useful for her to use may be mentioned, but only one thing has really stuck out to her.

Hearing only parts of what Terrena and Lovecraft are saying about Wraiths, Tea_Roll interrupts her private telling of the Epic Adventures of Firebrand story to jump up and shout, "OH BOY! I bet I can capture one of those thingy's you all are talking about! It would make a GREAT Pet!" Noticing no one even react to her this time, she sits back down and returns to Firebrand.

Witchy grins down at her.

Gryffindor smiles at this news hoping that TeaRoll has forgotten all about the idea of her being a pet. Werewolves aren't pets.

"Since you won't let me toss other people from the ship, Terrena, do you have any suggestions?" Lovecraft asks. "I am thinking Reaper would be FINE if we tossed her."

"No," Fresh says. "There will be no tossing, or throwing or hurling or any other word that describes removing someone from the ship. I am sure you two will find a very good solution to dealing with the Wraiths of the Darkfog. While Witchy, Gryffindor and I help secure the Wayward Squirrel to dock it." He steps away seeming to watch Witchy and Gryffindor discuss ideas.

"Well then?" Lovecraft asks.

"I say we use our weapons and do our best to keep them off the others long enough," TerrenaAnimula finally replies. "We will do our best."

"Fine," Lovecraft replies. "Better be prepared, cus here they come." She nods her head towards the sky and sure enough there are incoming. Along with the Wayward Squirrel coming into site.

"Hope Witchy and Gryffindor are up to their tasks," Terrena adds getting out her bow and arrows and aims towards the sky while Lovecraft pulls out her swords ready for battle.

Deciding to stop watch Tea, Witchy turns toward Gryffindor, "Do you have any ideas? Because I have to tell you, that idea of TerrenaAnimula and Lovecraft's about shooting bespelled arrows at the monsters has given me an idea."

Puffing some more on her pipe, she continues and begins to wonder what Gryffindor will think of this idea, considering she didn't know Witchy very well... or how Witchy's ideas usually worked out.

"What if you hold up the rope and I'll bespell it so that when it's thrown, the end will split into a grappling hook? I happen to have some extras here with me, from the last adventure. I turned them into these cute little earrings. Aren't they adorable?" Witchy grins, pleased with herself and turns her head side to side trying to show Gryffindor her earrings.

Gryffindor looks at Witchy very skeptically. It couldn't be that simple could it? She mulled it over for a few moments before nodding. "I'm not one for magic" she grunted "but it sounds crazy enough to work."

Witchy grins and puffs on her pipe. The fact that Gryffindor used the words 'crazy enough to work' sounds very much like how EVERY plan she came up with was. Witchy glanced over toward Fresh, wondering why he was being so quiet. He had a worried expression on his face and was staring down at Tea, who had gone back to playing with her figurines.

After Intermission Break TerrenaAnimula stands strong shooting arrows at the beasts flying in towards them, as Lovecraft slashes at those getting near enough to attack Witchy, and Gryffindor as they begin their efforts to try to dock the Squirrel to the ship. Unsure where Fresh has gotten himself to, but are sure he is on top of things. TeaRoll continues to mindlessly play with her dolls on the deck completely unaware of any danger going on around her.

"TEA!" Lovecraft yells at her. "Get up and HELP! Stop playing!"

Tea doesn't give the slightest hint that she heard anything and continues to spread her mess around as she pushes forward in her version of the Firebrand story, tossing toys all over the place.

"Tea," Terrena turns towards her while letting another arrow fly, "If you really aren't going to help, you may want to keep the mess closer to you or someone is going to..." She didn't finish because at that very moment, Lovecraft took a step back and stepped on one of the toys, tripping and falling onto her butt.

Tea_Roll suddenly becomes very aware of what is going on, stops playing and gets up off the ground. "I HAVE an IDEA!" she announces and grabs her bag up. She starts pulling out some items: Wine, Candy, Pink Feathers...

"How much room is in that bag," TerrenaAnimula asks amazed at how much seems to be in there, while she lets another arrow fly towards an incoming beast, while Lovecraft tries to get back to her feet.

TeaRoll shrugs. "Not sure. I got it from some lady named Mary Poppins at a yard sale. Something about retiring and being tired of snooty kids. Or was it Snotty kids? I have yet to reach the bottom of the bag."

Lovecraft finally gets back to her feet and starts heading towards Tea to dispatch with her instead of the creatures, but a beast gets in her path heading towards Witchy and what she is doing, so Lovecraft's attention has to turn. "Tea! I will deal with you later!" She starts battling another creature. "And if you have an actual idea, GET ON WITH IT! If it works, I may forgive you... MAY!"

TeaRoll sits mixing the wine, candy and feathers together. Witchy grabs the left over bottle of wine from Tea and drinks it then hits a Wraith that has gotten to close in the head with the empty bottle, then returns to her task at hand. Tea stands up and throws the mixture over the edge. "That should bring some added help," she says proudly then returns to playing with her toys, keeping them a little closer to her not to trip Lovecraft again.

Shaking her head, TerrenaAnimula can't believe what she just witnessed. "Really? That was help?"

Suddenly in the sky appears Flamingo, flying directly towards the ship.

Fresh suddenly appearing near by notices Flamingo in the sky, turns and says, "I don't think that is allowed. Adding extra members to our team."

While swinging her swords in front of her Lovecraft replies, "I'm sure there are loopholes somewhere that will allow us to get away with such behavior." She laughs as her blades strike into one of the creatures.

Flamingo swoops over head and drops down a string with a key tied to the end.

"What the heck is this?" Terrena looks at it confused.

Taking a closer look into the sky, "That's not the real Flamingo," Fresh decides.

"Of course it's not the real one," Tea says looking up from her toys. "She is busy with the wine and candy I sent her."

"What the heck are we to do with a kite that looks like Flamingo and a key?" Lovecraft shakes her head at Tea.

Putting down her toys again, TeaRoll yells, "DAMN IT JIM! I'm the alchemist not a genius."

"That's for sure," Lovecraft quips as she hits another Darkfog that was coming in towards them.

"I think if you guys just distract them long enough it will give Witchy and Gryffindor a chance to help secure the squirrel so it can be docked," Fresh says to Lovecraft and TerrenaAnimula already knowing TeaRoll was as much help as she was going to be.

"Actually," Terrena says still holding onto the kite, "If we can move this Flamingo kite into the paths of the creatures they may start going after it especially if we can get the big one distracted long enough by it."

"That may buy Witchy and Gryffindor enough time," Lovecraft nods in agreement sword hitting another Darkfog. "My swords just seems to temporarily send them off course, but they come right back. A distraction may be of more use here."

Putting one of her blades away she grabs the kite from Terrena, who is able to shoot her arrows again with both hands free, Lovecraft starts moving the kite around in the sky. Using her other hand to slash at any that get to near.

"It seems to be working!" Terrena yells over to Lovecraft.

Before she has a chance to respond, "Of course my idea is working," Tea says looking up and into her bag, "I swore I packed a victory cake."

Keeping the Wraiths busy, Terrena shooting her arrows and Lovecraft moving the kite around in the sky seems to be helping Witchy and Gryffindor come up with a plan. Fresh seems surprisingly absent again.

After taking a nice long guzzle of some really horribly cheap wine, knowing that Flamingo is not going to approve of the offering Tea just sent overboard to her, Witchy realizes EXACTLY what is needed to catch hold of the Squirrel.

Looking at Gryffindor, she wonders how fast the werewolf can put together a gadget?

Watching (and dodging) the other legends, while they fight the Wraiths, Gryffindor feels a hot poker hitting the back of her head. Slapping at herself, and whirling around, she doesn't see any one behind her. But suddenly, she notices Witchy staring at her.

She is STARING! "omg. Is she going to throw me overboard? wonders Gryffindor. Because suddenly, Witchy's normal slightly dazed, confused expression, is NOT dazed or confused at all! And she is definitely STARING at her. Gryffindor starts backing slightly towards the edge of the ship.

"Can you make a gun?" she asks Gryffindor. "Gun?" "Yah, yah...only instead of bullets, I want a spring action type of load. Here, let me sketch it out for ya. Quick..." Witchy uses some of the spilled wine and cake crumbs from Tea's mess, to draw out a gun that shoots plungers.

"YES!" screams Gryffindor "Finally! something I can do, that actually makes sense!" she thinks.

Quickly pulling tools and items from her pockets and travel bag, she throws a contraption together.

Grabbing it up, Witchy pushes a plunger into the end, while Gryffindor makes up another one, and does the same thing. (Thinking to herself...where the stars did these plungers come from?) But much to busy, trying to dodge the Legends as they shoot at the Wraths, she shoots a plunger at the Squirrel, watching it, as it catches hold.

"I can't believe that worked" she says, as her and witchy start wrenching the ropes tight.

Glancing at her, but mainly concentrating on getting the lines tied securely, Witchys says "Of course it worked. My ideas always work. Just not sometimes how I mean for them to."

With that, Witchy steps back to look at what they had done. Skidding a little on the drawing that she had made with the mess from Tea's bag, she catches her self, and thinks..."Oh yeah, where did all those crumbs come from?"

As she watches Gryffindor put her tools away, witchy remembers Fresh. WHERE was he? He doesn't usually disappear when things are so hectic, and lives are on the line.

Looking again towards the Squirrel, Witchy sees Fresh sitting braced up against the boat railing. Shoving food into his mouth. "What's This?" Witchy yells at Fresh "WHERE DID YOU GET THAT CAKE!? Fresh! you know I'm always sharing my cake with you, BUT NOW? We Don't Have TIME For that!"

Glancing up at Witchy, Fresh mumbles around a mouthful of cake, "When Tea dumped her bag out, a WHOLE CAKE rolled out, Right Into MY HANDS! I HAD TO EAT IT! Before someone stepped on it or realized it was here. Must save the cake" he mumbles, as he chews and swallows as fast as he can.

"Oh Fresh!"

"You ate MY CAKE!" Tea exclaims at Fresh. "While we all were busy saving the squirrel."

Finally, his mouth clear, "You weren't busy helping, you were playing with toys."

"DOLLS!" she yells. "They are much more sophisticated."

"Either way," Terrena says putting away her bow and arrow, "It looks like Witchy and Gryffindor got the Squirrel secured enough that it can be docked onto the ship."

"Job well done everyone!" Fresh says hoping that the cake will be forgotten.

Witchy just stands there going back to a relaxed state, puffing on her pipe. "Glad my idea worked," she thinks silently. "If not I am sure Gryffindor would have been pulled out into space by one of the plungers and the Squirrel." She smiles over towards Gryffindor glad that the newcomer has no clue that it was a lucky guess.

Gryffindor was amazed she survived. She lived thru the first step with the group. Feeling more confident that it had to be a misunderstanding that caused their last vagabond to loose her feathers. Had to be.

"I don't understand what the key on the end of the kite was for..." Lovecraft begins and before she gets to finish the last word, a Wraith of the Darkfog ZAPS the Flamingo kite sending a bold strike of lightning down the string of the kite to the key and sending her flying across the deck.

"Um..." Tea says, "You don't think I will be blamed do you? That is when she wakes up."

For now anyways. grins
