Background

So it's been revealed that the Atebus shop is due to go the same way as the Graveyard shop, and while at this point Subeta to me is little more than window shopping while I wait for a bus... I'd still be really sorry to see this shop go. However I can understand why that might currently be an option. [li]Items from the shop are old, even the revamped items look a bit weird or are just not very useful anyone? [li]Due to their age and lack of usability they are low in demand -- even I with 10-12 pets who need modern and/or retro sci-fi items have little use for most of the items in the shop that's supposed to sell those kinds of items. [li]The items the shop sells don't actually fit the current feel of Atebus and it doesn't look good to users. [li]The current lack of user interest has lead to making the shop be neglected by staff AND users which has resulted in even less interest.

Subeta Lore

Calvin Blackmoon was the antagonist of a plot that definitely pre-dates my being around on the site, but the Subetapedia states this: [img align=right]http://img.subeta.net/calvinblackmoonsm.gif[/img]"Neither the new owners of these cadogres, nor his adoptive parents knew that little Calvin's plan was to amass an army of robots, pets and owners to assault the moon Atebus. He built massive amounts of cybernetic creatures to aid him, and lured many pets and owners to his side with promises of power and glory. Years went by as he secretly built his army and schemed against Atebus.

When the blow against Atebus finally came, it was absolutely crushing. Though the forces of defense on Subeta's moon put up a good fight, they were decimated by Blackmoon's superior numbers and weaponry, and Calvin's own brilliant strategical mind. The war was over in a matter of days.

As Atebus had been a strictly experimental settlement, the loss was quietly accepted by Subeta's government and quickly covered up. As for Calvin, he set out to build a sprawling technologically-dependent city on the moon. Everything would be manufactured at Blackmoon Incorporated, the very same company that produced the cadogres and the now-heavily-modified endeavors he discovered were already in use by the previous leadership of Atebus. Soon after construction of the city Ziara, Calvin invited anyone from Subeta who wanted to come live in his city to do so."

So ah... what happened?

Currently Blackmoon sits alone in his big house on top of a hill with his old robots up for adoption, only the adoption centre there is empty so really it's just him. We know for a fact that Blackmoon is a driven, ruthless and highly intelligent individual with a lot of firepower at his disposal, and yet Yun Enterprises has just wandered in and taken over, Steamwork pets and fashion, the way of life, have taken over on Atebus. It would seem that despite the reliability of Blackmoon's creations, it was not Blackmoon Inc. that was set to take over as the manufacturer on Atebus, the scorn he set up for Subeta was his downfall and the newly settled Atebus shunned anything and everything they associated with the mother planet. Including Blackmoon's items. Eventually even owning Subetan tech was frowned upon and became scandalous. With no income from his factories, his Endevours and Cadogres no longer being eaten up and in high demand from the war he started, Blackmoon finds himself withering away in his mansion, now so very out of place on the Steamwork moon.

And then he hears that the shops he set up on the moon are dying. Of course they are. The only people who buy from them are tourists, the locals don't want that kind of stuff... Do they? It doesn't take him long to realise there is demand, in it's way, if you can get into the shop when the sun goes down and before the lights come on, if you can get some of the good stuff. It's particularly popular among teenagers and the rebellious upper class looking for a way to get their thrills, and then there's the street gangs and petty criminals and rich and unloved who want better protection...

Proposition

Instead of removing the Atebus shop in its entirety and leaving the Weapons shop to rot in old art squalor. Set up Blackmoon as the brain behind Atebus' underworld. The taboo cyberpunk of Subetan-tech, smuggled in SAI and military equipment, coupled with Blackmoon's old stock. Start to retire the old cartoony space items, or revamp them ( please), and give Subeta's moon a dark side.

Items and Shops

Revamp the old cyberpunk items that weren't CS and re-release them. Use it as an excuse to revamp the CS items and re-release, people have been asking for them for ages. Yay Money! Revitalize the shaky old weapons shop with revamps and link the new blackmarket and current weapons shop together. Have some restocks in the weapons shop fail and instead come up with a 'I'm sorry, it seems our shipment is late, I hope it's not gone missing again...' kind of message, and have different items then stocking in the blackmarket on Atebus + some of the rarer restockables from the weapons shop. It's a different way to run the shops that'll keep people on their restocking toes, changes the pace a bit and adds to the lore of Subeta. The blackmarket shop can have a general focus on surplus weaponry from the war. Uniforms -- Subetan and Atebus ones, each different area of the map having different camo conventions and colours and styles. Weaponry -- modern firearms, ordinance and armour Tech and Vehicles -- modern military technology such as microwaves and LRAD systems, armored vehicles etc...

It would introduce up to date sci-fi items for all the pets currently stuck with things like the that are making the current shop untenable, bring in a variety of new wearables such as we simply do not have and some of the older pet-specific weapons can be phased out and replaced by pretty new items for TCs and people starting out in the battle scene. Larger items, such as vehicles can double as backgrounds, or partial backgrounds for the HA.

Currently there is an obvious reason people don't want the older weapons and sci-fi items on site: they're just not that great to look at. If they're not nice to look at, they're not in high demand for TCs or anything and the shop doesn't do well.

At current the majority of nice/useable sci-fi items that are not steampunk are all cashshop, this makes for a very small pool of very expensive possible items for use in the wardrobe and in TCs. They're also limited in the kinds of items released, where as an sP shop could stock food, books etc...

Having it as part of the Atebusian underworld opens up the opportunities for more battle opponents: smugglers, robots, wanna-be-soldiers, guards who are triggered by you holding too many of the illicit items in your inventory, and means that the hustler could be palming off some of the stranger goods as well.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: there is an entire wikia dedicated to different camos across the world for a reason -- there is a LOT to draw on from military gear, not just camo, but everything, from the last century alone. We don't need to just be seeing the same green-brown earthy stuff etc...

Subeta's modern sci-fi and military lore is there, just under the surface, but sorely neglected. Please don't brush such a good opportunity to introduce more variety and story to the site.

My personal two cents:

We have an entire colour dedicated to the galaxy, we have two modern-style mechs and a load of minions too, and one military styled experiment, I myself have a number of modern military/sci-fi/robot/space pets, all of whom are starting to get very dull repetitive TCs, not because the shops aren't there, but because the items aren't, I've also found myself doing a sizeable number of modern sci-fi overlays for other people. It's not that no one wants these things, it's just that there is a very limited scope for what you can do with the characters once you have them. Multiple threads asking for modern weaponry, cyberpunk etc... have shown up over the last few years and faded into obscurity with nothing done about them, and now one of very few shops that could host such items is being closed down due to lack of use (not interest, use), this sees like an opportunity to keep it going to me.

I have a HUGE bias towards guns, so I'll use those as examples:

There is an opportunity for beautiful item art and 'fashionable' items

Gnarlier utilitarian items

Smaller shinies

And I want this on my HA so bad

I have a handful or two of steampunky victorian era characters, and to even them most of the stuff we have is useless-- yes a few random doodads and thingamajigs and gears here and there, and never forget the dangly chains. But a lot of the stuff has just taken it way too far to be even remotely functional (the beauty of Steampunk is that most of the stuff not only looks cool, but it works... glueing 3 random gears and a chain to a bracelet doesn't make it functional steampunk).

I also have a handful of Desolate Future based characters, and I've had oodles of fun (and by oodles I mean basically none) finding believable TC items for them (in fact, most of Ajax's TC consists of Cash Shop items, CWs, andd battle shop items). If I had more options, I'd probably have a lot more of these characters (I was thinking about doing something future based with 6, but lol once was enough fun).

I do agree though, that most of the current stock in the shop in question looks like it either needs to burn as a witch (those lockers, really now), or be moved to other shops (like the food to the food shop and the plushies to the plushie shop, etc). This is actually why I've gone from "Yay! Steampunk!" to "UGH TAKE IT AWAY!" function > form gets me hot and bothered ❤️ The fact we have an entire event based around an aesthetic I used to like and now very very very rarely find anything I want from, makes me sad =< and it's why I love guns and aircraft so much XD

(Funnily enough one of the future pets I was struggling with was '26' P= sorry '6' won't be joining them ;; )

I support all of this. Atebus really needs more love. I would love to see a revamp, because as it is now, there are only four locations tucked away in the corner of the Subeta map. Are you telling me Calvin wouldn't try to make more settlements?

+1 Yes. I would love that. It would be just like the Delphi Museum that's being revamped sometime this year and omg that'd be so neat.

I'd just hate to see the shop go. There's so much potential to do with it and instead it's going to waste with no new items, no NPC, and taking up space in Ziara City. Placing all my bets to get those items in Stargazer, I'm honestly not too thrilled about. What I am thrilled about are these cyberpunk ideas and what to do with Blackmoon.

Yes to all of this. +1000 support I am not even THAT into space stuff that much, but it has always annoyed me that the Steamwork Menagerie gets a gazillion freaking items but the Atebus shop could never get any. It is about time other components of Atebus get some love. DO NOT GET RID OF THAT SHOP. I am totally against getting rid of ANY shops. After the whole graveyard shop thing (which I hated now that those items are all totally worthless), I totally want to find some way to keep this shop around, and this sounds awesome!

MOST USERS don't look in the feedback forum, so there's a large percentage of people who don't know something is going to be gone until it's too late. I feel like instead of having an official feedback about restocking, what we should have is a 'how do you feel about [name of shop/feature] and would you be okay with it disappearing?' or some paraphrase of that.

I'm all about this. As a person who's mostly into HAs and loves SF I would be so happy if the site introduced more futuristic stuff that wasn't from ancient CS trunks and thus costs millions of sP. Like I want to wear a horrible Ferengi suit (ears optional) or dress like a member of the Moya crew or hell, look like the robot from Lost in Space.

This this this. The Atebus shop is my place to check for items, admittedly I usually come up short... but it's still where I go first and it's one of very few shops I visit at all. It was just dumb luck that resulted in me seeing that comment on that thread. If the shop had vanished without warning because I'd missed it, I'd have been livid.

I've never heard about it, but it looks interesting. I just think that there is more than a red banana and a pink lemon to it. There is a way to keep a balance between cute stuff and more "hardcore" stuff to please most of the fanbase. It's space, it's infinite.
