A lot of smails and comments on characters for this round of WS, so here's a thread for nothing but characters and how to build the one you want for this combo environment.
Hopefully this will help:
Important: If you already have a successful character you use and love, just import with no changes. This character will and can roll with any challenges needed. There is NO need for you to change this character. The suggestions below are for new players, those confused, and those wanting to "change it up."
Characters who are a bit off-kilter always fare better. Your creation should have personality and a few quirks of his or her own.
There are many ways to play a character. For example, a Dr. Who type is a great Polymath, but Capt. Jack Sparrow is a fabulous Vagabond. Same base class; different takes. In our combined genre world, Capt. Jack could easily entertain a whole Seelie court, while Dr. Who would be off-beat and have to convince other ways. By the same token, Dr. Who could take off in an "antiquated" Tranquility class cruisier while Jack was still trying to find the steering wheel.
A "classic" character take will have some trouble with the "Firelight" (Firefly) world and will require adaptation, while a "Firelit" character will need devices to enter the Seelie courts.
Some characters cross over easily. For example, an urban fantasy elf rock-star from Bordertown or an Inara type Firelit Companion are both just as much Bards as the "classic," but would be played vastly differently.
Hate to RP, and what-do-I-do-now-Mom? This is what teams are for, and the major reason why we have them! No one can, or should, have to do it all. You may be wonderful at puzzles, or organizing all notes, clues, and the like, or helping to dress the whole team in high fashion. So use another team member to help you with your RP and give your talents back in return.
Also, you can choose a "reluctant" type of character, such as the weapon-slinger who has witnessed too much and now cooks in the ships galley, or the silent scarred and unarmed traveler in a hooded cloak who says little to teammates. However, both may be warriors of the highest calibre, and. when help is truly needed, both can mop up the floor with all the opponents.
Seelie characters are members of the Faerie Realm. If you have a "classic" character, they come from here.
Firelit characters drifted in on some sort of spacecraft, with Tranquility class ships the default choice.
Borderfolk live in a zone caught between the world of Faerie and the roar of space engines. They've learned to survive in odd ways, but they have survived.
Select what strikes your fancy, and fit it to the character you create. Then let that character adapt to all the situations of the three elements. :D
There, you now have some ideas which I hope will ease your qualms. Add more suggestions and/or ask more questions below. Good positive discussions are worth their weight in gold.
I'm scared and confused now. I was just going to do what I did last time.
Going Fishing!!! 🐟
, is there a difference between Traveler and Adventurer. I thought at one time it was discussed Traveler would be more medieval/Seelie court type and Adventurer more Firefly/space hence the / between the character types.
Like , now kind of confused myself :)
That's the reason for that section in bold lettering. If you were fine last time, please don't change. Do exactly what you did last time!
Traveler and Adventurer are the two modes of play. In Traveler, challenges and puzzles are less intense, there are no class specific challenges, and timelines for everything is longer (one week.) It's basically a "less stressed" mode for those who want to RP with more leisure and who were feeling a bit "under the gun" with the intensity of the full event, which admittedly, can be a roller-coaster ride. Adventure mode is that roller-coaster ride. :D
Since so many classic players were involved on so many teams in both modes, and the same for the "firefly" players, a categorical split, which was a starting idea for this concept, would simply not work in any practical matter. Once individual and team prefs were logged, this was the way it had to be structured.
Blending the genres in Bordertown made the whole event very doable and fun for all.
I am so excited at the idea of this. The Bordertown option reminds me of one of my favorite book series. I am so doing a Borderfolk Vagabond.
I'm rather scared about point 6. We never needed to do that in the last WS. Why are we being asked to do so now? I don't know if I am comfortable RPing in one of these 3 categories. I don't think I'm a strong enough RPer to do so :/ I just don't understand these groups :/ is panicking

Jean goes everywhere! She's a human with a sharp mind, and travelling the world has gotten her used to all sorts of strange things.
The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation. My CW shop, and my ping group
We've never done a blended adventure before, just single theme. However, consider the overall theme for this on to be "Urban Fantasy" and go from there.
I will help you out, though. You're a wolf, in spirit and persona. Because of that, you belong to Bordertown, where you fit right in. Heck, you can play bass in a "Wererock" group if you want. The Gearloose Goose is hiring. :D
She'll have no problem. Check in, and enjoy the ride. :D
Go teams! Still cheering you on, just a little more quietly these days.
RIP Mom, I love & miss you more than you know. Tell Dede hi.

Im a Reluctant Warrior - its the class we need to fill but Im a little nervous about it. Makes perfect sense - brilliant!
Our Lair is proof you don't have to stand face to face to know you've got friends who stand with you when you need us.
Mni wiconi -- water is life
I think that fits very well. I really want to relieve frustration, since the shared stuff is a new leap for all of us. :D
Are you talking Emma Bull, Will Shetterly style? Terri Windling forever?
Big hug to our beloved cheerleader!
Thank you, hugs are something I can really use these days. hugs back A big thanks to all, I'm on my phone so it's hard to see everything.

I love this thread, and the title lol. rather than scaring me [because I dont know what's coming at me] It has clarified a lot of things and reassured me I was heading in the right direction.Thank you very much. Eek :0) I know where you're coming from. [one Vagabond to another] Big hugs for all who lost their moms! I know everyone says it, but as time passes, other things come into your life, and the pain does lessen, instead of feeling grief you start to reminisce, and thoughts of the good times that you spent together replace the hurt.
Thank you also for the thoughts and hugs. It's been a really tough time. She was my rock.

stares I think we are character enough without anything added grins You never know WHAT may happen tho during our missions. Already have thoughts in the works....evil laugh
.. I can't say I understand much of the RP aspect sorry.. hopefully I will closer to time.
I do have to say that really does have some great things in the works. And the thing is...it's all based off of actual things we and our friends have done chatting on the forums on subeta or over on fb. XD We Silver Legends are a crazy lot with a lot of character!
The Roleplay comes easier at time of story. With my group Silverlegends...we kinda of OUR who we are playing so it is easier that we don't have to "create" different personas. Think of it as acting....you have now been hired to play a role within the group.
