Subeta has lots and lots of items, many of which reference various media or act as tributes to well-known figures and celebrities, both alive and deceased; all of which you can find here on the thread, down below in specific categories.
The lists are not necessarily complete, however. My teammates and I did our best to find everything, but alas, we are merely human and probably missed a few reference/tribute items.

What's the difference between a reference and tribute item?[/b]]
Tribute items are specifically attributed to a particular person, place, or event. Tribute items are typically released as Free Gifts, especially after a well-known person has passed away.
We tend to have a lot of tribute items which fulfill multiple categories, like the Robin Williams tribute item for example. However, we feel it's better to acknowledge the passing or honoring of well-known figures for what they've accomplished overall in their life, not solely on what their best known for.
Reference items can be any item referring to anything, either based on the description or the item art, or both.
For example, Huesabe itself does not look like it references anything...until you read the description in the item hover. :D
Reference items tend to present the dilemma of whether or not the description truly is referencing a film, song, etc.. It's easy to overgeneralize an every day phrase as a direct quote from a movie.

What if the item I found fulfills multiple categories?[/b]]
This is often a problematic conflict, especially regarding Disney adaptations versus the original source material, as well as Disney songs.
Still, suggest the item to the category you believe it best represents, and the TRI team will investigate.

How can I help in identifying reference/tribute items then?[/b]]
First and foremost, please check and make sure that the item in question is not already listed somewhere. Many items do tend to overlap categories and are generally put where we think they fit best.
Listing vague details or saying "I'm pretty positive..." are incredibly unreliable and unhelpful sources of evidence, as we are not completely well-versed in every fandom or fad, aside from some iconic symbols, phrases, themes, and main characters. It is important to keep the lists as accurate as possible, so naturally, we are a little skeptical at times.
Thus, we recommend posting with strong, compelling evidence to support your claim. This includes linking to multiple sources to support your findings.
These sources can be verbatim quotes, images or video clips. Typically, the more sources provided, the more likely we are to believe your claim.
On Subetalodge.org, you can actually find when something was released by checking the item's info. This is extremely useful with book references.
If the item was released during a holiday or an event, try checking other items released alongside it to see if there's a pattern. More often than not, multiple items will be made to reference the same franchise.

Subeta Historical Moments [spoiler=100,000 Members Celebration]
10th Anniversary Celebration
Longcat summary: 4chan got all huffy about Subeta using their creation as a reference item. When told to take it down, Keith said no, and the site got hacked. Lots of quarreling and downtime later, the longcat item was removed and replaced with the following item:
EnderNeko summary: Two former Subeta admins disagreed with Keith's methods of running Subeta, among other things regarding financial business. In retaliation of being terminated, Ender and his wife, Neko, held the site ransom, claiming Keith had abandoned his job and EnderNeko were going to instead be in charge. However, thank to our courageous staff and loyal userbase, the site persevered and was eventually restored under a different domain, and EnderNeko were never heard of again. (I assume they went to jail for extortion)
To celebrate and thank his userbase for their love and support during this dark time, Keith gave out the following item:

and I just noticed that Anasazi has a section for Subeta Staff, but Seerow also has items dedicated to and in her Other tributes section. I think these two should be moved to the Subeta Staff section, since Alice was a staff member for a really long time and Hope was a minimod.
I had no idea that was a section 0_o I don't know how I missed that!
I'll leave those two items in place so you can move them over. Once you have em in your section let me know and I'll take em down!
There's a couple other references to old staff members. I don't remember who they were for though. Vampire and Seosilver maybe lol? would you remember by chance?

I didn't know about it either! Maybe it was added last second. XD ...For some reason, I want to say the vamp trunk was for DNA? But I can't confirm.

It was was the old Telenine artist Tsume, actually! I think she may have ISS'd to Vampire at some point, too, but most people would remember her more by Tsume I think. Her account is long gone now. :c
