I've never understood why something specifically for the New Years celebration is only given out during quests. Quests really don't have anything to do with New Years and it makes them pretty annoying to get for people that don't really do a lot of quests. Besides, we already have quest points to fill the role of a shop currency given by questing! Why aren't these just floaters instead especially since we're not getting any this year (big disappointment tbh)? It seems a bit ridiculous and really obscures the fact that there is actually an event on.
I actually prefer having to do quests. We have floaters for almost every other holiday, so it's a nice change of pace + I'm earning quest points, items and sp while I'm collecting tokens, so it's win/win, really.
Because floaters are dumb
click on floater
OOPS THIS DOESN'T BELONG TO YOU!
oh, okay, i'll just go on th...look, floater!
click on floater
OOPS THIS DOESN'T BELONG TO YOU!
the team probably wants its users to invest more effort into the site via quests than just blindly refreshing and clicking.
I don't understand how not having a floating goddie bag full of stuff that will eventually be worthless cause so many are handed out is a disappointment.
I like that the points allow me to get the things I want rather than having a ton of junk that no one wants.
So Vesnali and the other events should be done via quests too? Remove all floaters because a few are defective and drain all the fun out of a great little hunt!
Then they should remove the Shop Search button they put in because that's what enables the blind click/refresh thing. Putting unrelated currency in there does nothing but encourage that behaviour.
Yeah, I'd rather do something to get flowers, like something involving interaction with the garden. You know. Have Vesnali do with some specific parts of the site and not just browse as usual.
Browsing as usual and clicking for floaties have always been the most boring events, especially because more floaties end up being worthless. Especially with floatie bag items
Yes, that's definitely fair enough, but what do quests have to do with New Years?? Quests are a pretty common part of the site and don't really need to boost like the garden does.
What they should do is find other ways to make the floaters less worthless. Like what they did with the Peka-boo event or simply make the floaters more rare. To me, that would make a heck of a lot more sense.
The thing with floater items is that in general after a while they become useless. The value of the unopened bags goes up, but the value of the actual items within those bags usually does not.
I actually prefer this system. It might not have anything to do with new years, but I'm pretty sure that staff wanted users to invest in the actual site and I actually prefer it that way. Plus, by making people do quests, it allows me to have random items for fragmentizing plus extra sp in my on-hand stash so I consider it a win-win.
I always disliked floaters and I enjoy doing quests so for me having the Tokens bound to questing is a big, fantastic win-win-situation party. :)
So, please don't change it back to the old floating item stuff, thank you. โค๏ธ
All in favor of having them drop from quests tbh. I don't do quests a lot either, but even me being lazy and doing a few here and there has landed me a pile of tokens, so it's not like you have to do all of them all day.
Floaters are boring, and if you have to interact with a feature to get tokens it's hard for people to cheat. Unlike, say, when you just click on snowballs.
I guess I don't mind the NY Tokens being given out by completing quests. I need way more than I'm probably going to end up with, but I don't mind it, since it does give me extra motivation to quest and I'm usually pretty lazy about it. I do wish, though, that they would allow Major Drills to give out the tokens, too, since he did last year apparently. That'd be really nice.
HOWEVER, people are talking about floaters going down, and I really, really hope that doesn't happen unless there's a way to get at least as many flowers/coins during Vesnali as I would via the floaters. I get that everyone thinks they're so boring, but I'm not thinking of getting the floaters and instead am thinking of the currency that turning in those floaters (aka Vesnali coins) gives. So don't do away with floaters if the new way to get the event items is going to yield less currency, essentially. It's no fun to participate in an event if I feel like no matter what I do I'm not going to have enough currency to get what I want, even after the whole "You're not meant to get everything, pick and choose, etc etc" thing is taken into account. That's more hassle than fun, and I'd hate it if flowers were suddenly only handed out via questing.
I absolutely fucking hate floating items. Like said: clicks somewhere ah shit no this one. clicks on another one still not sees third accidentally close tab.
I'm way more happy with this method. I like being rewarded for effort instead of refreshing.

I personally don't like the fact there are no floating bags this New Year's. I like them -_- I don't mind having to do quests to earn New Year tokens though
I would be VERY unhappy if they do away with floaters.
I think it's a good way to control the flow of New Years tokens using quests. We can only do so many quests in a day - of course GAs get more, but I think that it makes things easier on us users rather than us having to spend so much time looking for floaters.
I do like them though, and I hope we see more floaters, but used appropriately. I don't want to see them go away forever. It's a different sort of effort because you have to spend time on Subeta to find the items. Plus it's always fun once you see it, like "oh! floater!".

I'm sort of...of mixed opinion on this, I guess? I don't have a problem with the currency being dropped by questing, since I do that anyway, but even doing all the quests every day only usually gives enough currency for about two items (at least from the "previous years" part of the shop; the 2014/15 stuff is very reasonably priced). And it's not even a "well, buy it from user shops later, then!" thing, because if no one's making enough currency to buy extra items there aren't really going to be any to buy up later. I'd prefer it if we were guaranteed a token for every completed quest, or there were occasional floating tokens to grab in addition to the chance to get them from quests (obviously a decreased amount of floaters than most holidays, though if Fireside was any indication Subeta is already decreasing them). Also, I don't like the idea of GA users getting this kind of buff for events.
I guess I'm in the minority here, but I want everyone on the site to be able to get their hands on all the event stuff they want without having to spend exorbitant amounts of sP later on. I personally don't give a crap if I have to sit on a pile of unwanted items to make that happen -- god knows I already have thousands of them just from doing quests and collecting Melody's gifts and getting useless junk for Luminaire and getting a Fallen Rag Doll every other time I trick-or-treated during Morostide and...
First I like floaters in the sense of "events on subeta have floaters" nostalgia but other than that, they're annoying especially if you don't have css to force them into a corner so you actually see them.
That aside: what do floaters have to do with any holiday, either? Nothin'. I think questgivers being "in the spirit of the holiday" and giving people festive tokens is more logical tgan random bags of stuff randomly falling from the sky? Stuff that most people don't want and becomes worthless and hoarded for whenever the Recycle Beast asks for it.
I also agree that I wouldn't mind seeing all floaters culled across the board! Every vesnali I end up with a ton of points and a ton of flowers that I just dump in a hoardgallery for the following year. Same with burnables and pumpkins. Why don't quest givers give you flowers for completing quests (instead of normal items, just sP/flowers/QPs)? Why can't we sometimes get a bonus flower for giving flowers? Flower everytime you play random or something.
Basically: Quests make people do things. New years isn't a holiday so we don't add new features for it so its easy for us to just turn on an additional currency from quests vs getting a bunch of free items.
We want to make it so that your items are a choice and they retain some kind of value because not everyone is getting them for free every 3-5 minutes from browsing the site.
And lets be honest: The items from floaters have never been great. They've had the year on them and only serve to toss in the wardrobe. We want to move toward quality vs quantity in this regard, and that means making you play a little harder for the items you want :)

I still think there's a better way to handle it than using something unrelated. Maybe its own 'New Years Quest' that asks for things from previous years' events, which would in turn make the older things more valuable and help remove excess from the site?
It's just not an actual holiday. It's a way for us to hand out a few themed items, we aren't worried about the prices of past years items.
I understand where you're coming from, but this is just a good way to spur a lot of activity on the site and get the economy in gear for a new year when people are doing a ton of quests. It removes a bunch of items and pushes sP around. :)
