Is there any way we can at least get booted back to the message we posted instead of it "poofing" sometimes I am replying to multiple friends and I am able to type/reply to the point where I get this and then I lose whatever I said.

It would be nice to not lose your message whenever it happens. When it happens, I forget to reply.
I'd love to see this starting to revert back to your old message. I've had a LOT of people comment me on here and FB lately asking why I never replied to their smail.... yet I've received no smail.
yeah, I really hate this about sMails. I think they could get revamped too, but at least fix this so it takes you back to your message as stated.
It's nice that it still works sometimes. For me it still does. I'm not sure but I heard a while ago they might do away with it. Not sure when though.
My instant reaction to this topic's title is "please kill it with fire". I like to type everything first, then send all replies at once, so it always gets me. Granted, I started using notepad so I don't lose any more text... but it's a bit of a hassle.
If killing with fire isn't a possibility because spammers, then at least not losing the message would be fantastic. But then again, the whole smail system is in need of an entire overhaul, so I'm not sure how much staff is willing to change the old setup right now :(
Users shouldn't have to use offsite features to not lose things, imo. :/ It'd be nice to not lose a reply you've possibly spent a long time/effort on typing. So I'm all for a revamp of sMails.
Since this is requesting specific changes, moving to S&I.
Wasn't there supposed to be a revamp to sMail in the works? I can't remember... but if there isn't, there should be. And this definitely needs to be one of the changes. I don't use sMail much anymore, but back in the day, I lost a couple of messages because of this. :C
oh god YES. Not even being able to hit "back" to what you've just typed pisses me off something awful.
cw ping group vesperwear for cw releases
What do you mean by "might do away with it."
Yes, I totally can see them keeping the feature to do away with spammers but yeah I'd really really like to be able to hit "back" and not lose it.
+1
(and everyone else) There still screwing around with the damn wardrobe so I suppose any "revamp" will be put on the back burner, so I wonder if for now we can just implement the ability to not lose the message.

I thought they once talked about getting rid of it and replacing it with something else.
Oh good lord! I hope not! It's the only way to keep your privacy, using the "comments" instead lets everyone on your friends list know every bit about you by reading through it.

They had an instant messaging system that they were beta testing, but it got really negative feedback because obviously IM =/= sMail. I think they just scrapped it altogether.

Awww, I thought it was nice. What were the negatives?
- I think it was just too different from the current sMail, and they were planning to use the new system to entirely replace sMail. It just didn't make sense for what people use sMail for.

it felt more like a replacement for comments more than smail. I'll miss that tech look it had though.
I would not at all mind an instant messaging system, and I'd actually probably really enjoy it, but I would absolutely not want it to take the place of sMail! I wouldn't care if it replaced comments, because I don't see how different they'd be, but I use sMail for long-winded stuff and information (like art purchases, profile coding, etc). I can not imagine I would be able to receive a bunch of code via IM without it looking super messy.
Also, on the subject of sMail, a revamp, and problems with it in general, can we do something about how < or > erases everything that comes after it? Why is it like that?
I don't sMail often so I didn't realize this was an issue, but this sounds SUPER annoying. :/ Hopefully they'll at least make a change that sends you back to your (filled out but unsent) sMail when this happens.
Seconding that an IM feature (that doesn't replace comments or sMail) would be really cool to have. It wouldn't even need archive/save the messages, it would just be useful for little things and casual interaction that would be easier to have docked on the side (think of the shout box, but private) than continually going to a specific page to read and reply to comments. That's not exactly what this thread is about though, but if anyone makes a suggestion thread for something like this let me know as I'm in support of that.
Also, just as a quick aside; I 100% agree that people should not have to use off site features to enjoy this (or any) website, however, there is a useful add on (for both chrome and firefox) that people will probably find useful-- here and elsewhere. It's called Lazarus, and it's a text field saver. So if you write something and your browser crashes or you accidentally close the page or this error happens where you try to send sMail too soon you can use this to recover what you've typed. I've had it before I even joined Subeta as it's just so useful, so hopefully until this is addressed this will help people from losing what they've typed.
