Yeah I think this was the gist of the feedback back then, but between the people who didn't want it to take over smail and the people who didn't like it at all... I also think they scraped it, wish they hadn't because I also loved it / saw so much nice potential from it ;c
Would possibly keep us from using other IMing in parallel with Subeta (or just closing Subeta and moving to IMing after questing/dailies), also incentivizing more instant communication with "strangers" -- which is something people seem to love on other site areas, like the shoutbox.
Idk, the day they tested it I spent like the whole day chatting within Subeta and it felt so fancy, haha. But I 100% agree that mails should not follow the "instant" format, they're more like mini letters or notes you send for other people to reply later and they absolutely must remain that way.
I kinda like comments too - mostly because mailboxes have extremely limited space, so a quick note about sales or gaming often goes better that way - so ahaha I want all the chat options it seems n-n
Wow I have to +1 you again. You and I think a lot alike. :)
I wonder if any admin are watching this thread to see the response...
If anyone here knows of a friend who feels like we need the option to SAVE what we typed instead of losing our message we are trying to send send em over?

I received your sMail, but I'm a bit too shy to make a suggestion topic about the IM thing. :P I stand by, however, what I said about how I'd be LOVING an IM system, and I'd give full support to anyone who would want to make one. I don't want the feature to replace sMails, but I would love to have it on site.
And to send me a sMail back. :p
No worries I got your back. ((created))
Does anyone that has posted here know the plausibility of coding to keep the message we type out from "poofing"?

Gave my support! :) Good luck with the topic. Totally missed the testing of the IM feature, but I'd really enjoy it.
I have heard of other people using browser add-ons to save typed text, however I don't think it would be possible to achieve that with Subeta-specific coding (like css within the site or something), unfortunately :c
Edit: I meant user input code, after reading Speiro's reply yeah I think staff could maybe code it in xD Which is the purpose of this topic!
- I'm pretty sure it's do-able, and might even be a good suggestion thread on its own since it applies to so many things (sMail, profile comments, forum replies). Obviously the message goes somewhere, so they just need to save it and display it again when there's an error and it can't be processed (like if you're double posting or whatever). I wouldn't think it would take too much rewriting of code, but then it's Subeta so who knows?

Yeah but I think the general consensus here is to try to keep it all "in the realm of subeta" so staying away from off-site or "add-on" items.
But I didn't know they had an add-on to browsers for that.
What I've been doing to keep from taking TOO MANY extra steps is after typing up highlighting it all and copying it so if need be can just paste it again, wait and then try to re-send.
Well my main concern is with it for sMail, if they can do it easily and chose to pick other places, then that'll be a bonus.

Yeah, I edited my previous post -- I mean there isn't any code -we-, as users, could "apply" to Subeta somehow to "fix" this on our end! Staff could maybe code something, I'm certainly hoping it's possible :x
In the mean time, if I wasn't so used to notepad, I'd definitely try an addon. I'm way too wordy to keep retyping things, haha.
Well I know for a couple of friends whom have had to be "away" from Subeta for medical or family reasons have typed out a "mass sMail" of sorts to send out to their friends with updates on the progress or news that are probably close to two pages on like Microsoft Word, and that's one FOR SURE reason to try to find a good option, we have so many players from all walks of life who have different things going on and it would be quite the mess to lose all that information/update.
I also can be very wordy in certain circumstances so I mean aside from the "coding" I can't see why this isn't a universal plus for all the users here. :)

No, unfortunately I'm no coder;;
Custom css for this would be cool though if anyone knows the sort of coding that would need. Not as good as a default site feature but it should work on other platforms (like mobile and whatnot) if it's custom css so that's a bonus.
Except in the case of the most popular messaging app on the internet, facebook messages. They are useful for long form, and short communication which is what we were going for.
It was actually previewed in the "new" layout though, which is where most of the negative feedback came from (since those topics always ended up being 80% about the new layout and 20% about what was being previewed) and we haven't picked it back up to move to the existing site since then.
[edit]
Anyway, on the actual topic - unfortunately sMail now has the distinction of being one of the oldest systems on the site. And as we slowly make our way through old systems we can start to really modernize how they work, which includes making it so that these sort of errors pop up at the top instead of making you lose your message. We don't have a timeline on a sMail rewrite right now, though.
