I brought this up in the writing forum and was encouraged to come suggest it here.
I was thinking it would be cool if Subeta had a newspaper, similar to the Neopian Times. Users would submit material -- short stories, articles, comics, poetry, etc. -- and the paper would be released weekly (or maybe like every other week or even monthly if there weren't enough submissions).
People obviously put a ton of work into their pet pages/stories for the Spotlight, but I think it would be cool if there were a place to tell more on-going stories about those characters...not to mention how it would be cool to have a place to really interact with the site lore in terms of "journalistic" pieces about plots and stuff.
Just tossing some ideas out there. I for one would be a regular contributor if this got implemented :)
Honestly, this idea appeals to me and always has, I love online/fictional newspapers, but somehow I don't think they would implement this for some reason... Probably for the fact it's "too similar to neopets"
Every now and then funny things happen to me on this site and I end up taking a screenshot and doing a doodle with it (people do screenies on neopets all the time) but I wish I could make it more into a comic and put it in a subeta newspaper.
Considering how limited the art/creative department is, I would be disappointed to see resources shifted to add something like this to the mix.
Why not get a group of users together and do this without staff being involved?
^That would be a cool group to create. A lot of tutorials written up are by the users, I'm sure there's enough dedication to start an NT-like in similar fashion.
If the users can successfully pull it off, I'm sure staff would only have to do a simple news post per week or bi-weekly: "Check out the latest Subeta Tribune, a newspaper for users, by users! Read this week's articles and topics of interests, including an editorial where users can submit questions to be answered."
It would strengthen the community, as well as welcome new players to stick around.

If the staff are endorsing it, wouldn't they actually have to take the time to look through it and make sure that the articles aren't a bunch of tips on scamming people, NC-17 Subeta FanFiction, or some other wierd shit?
Not that I think people would do that, but I don't think it's as simple as you think it is.
