Threw an okami suggestion out into the SB, and responded. Not just okami style though, but calligraphy in general.
Maybe an overall "artist" pet color that could include sketches (different from scribble), watercolor, charcoal, ink, just a very artsy feel, maybe even graffiti?
After looking up okami for some refrences i saw one here, about half way down and my brain went off to traditional japanese art. Oh think of the mahar and paralix!!
Link is "access denied".
I wouldn't call it "Okami", just Calligraphy or 'Calligra' for short.
It could be that each pet is a different style of calligraphy? Asian, Medieval, Modern, Graffiti, Arabian, Indian, English, and so on... there's a lot of different calligraphy styles to pick from.
Also, we should think about exactly how this would work... Would the pet be MADE OF calligraphy, or be pure white with the calligraphy painted onto their bodies? And in some cases (like with wings or tails) parts of them would be flat, floating calligraphy? Something to think about. Maybe add a poll (can you do that?) about which version would people like?
I support this idea. I think having pets actually be made of calligraphy would be the better idea. Would give more variety to try out.
I'd really be happy if Calligraphy pets would come up.
I'd especially be happy about some Okami-like pets, it was one of the most beautiful games I ever played. :)
But I like the whole idea of the calligraphy theme.
I remembered this picture and went to find it again. I think this shows the painted-on calligraphy/floating calligraphy idea very well, and I love it. What do you guys think?
EDIT: Ink, I think you should add Calligraphy to the title, like "Okami/Calligraphy" so to not misguide or put off people.
This looks great o: But imo this one would rather be a relic pet or something... which would also be cool.
Not my cup of tea so I'm going to say no.

I will never understand negative nellies like you who absolutely have to come into the thread just to post that you don't like the idea. Who cares?
i googled calligraphy animal art and i am in love with the marbled look of all of these!! and that reminded me of Midna from zelda. kind of aztec/mayan looking too. there are so many possibilities! and maybe you could contribute more input on what you would like to see different instead of just "no", what dont you like about it? there are a few ideas that have spun off this already.
I'm sorry, am I not allowed to give my opinion? I was unaware suggestion threads were only for yay-sayers!

I would really love a color like this. Stylized calligraphy themed would be great and since the style is so broad it could open this up to be a very diverse color. I can see artists having a lot of fun designing pets for this.

I don't really like the idea either (and I don't see a problem with saying so).
I think maybe I just don't "get it"? You just want the pets to be in a different, non-Subeta art style?

Here's an example of an Okami styled one that I'd like to see. And Nonchalant, it's alright to say you don't like an idea, but could you say specifically what you don't like about it?
Hmm. From my opinion anyway, it's not so much about a different style. We would still like the subeta look but to have the different designs that calligraphy shows. I love the flowing look of it :D
This style seems like it would make more sense as an overlay for the Scribble color, but I really still think its such a cool idea.
On Neopets (before the conversion) the Sketch color was so cute
, I wouldn't mind seeing pets in somekind of of artistic style.
[Edit] Yay Raffle Ticket
It's immature and insulting to come on just to whine about how you don't like it without providing any constructive critique. If you absolutely have to complain, at least provide some critique or suggestions!
- That seems like more a matter of how the pet is posed. Some angelic and spectrum pets have that sort of flowing look to them.
- Sure, but I don't think it's worth calling someone out on. That doesn't add anything constructive either, and you're not going to be able to change their ways. :P

Yep :D This would be more of that flowing look on all, not just on some. Plus calligraphy has flat/stylized aspects to it. Which is definitely unique from what we have so far.
I think the pets would be designed like you could still recognize them. It's just like any other pet color.
I want to try and avoid directly correlating to any Neopets colors as Subeta still has a knee-jerk reaction to being compared to Neopets. Hence the variety of the idea.
Shh, I want to keep my faith in humanity and hope people can know better.
EDIT: Also, have you seen my example picture and my suggestions? It won't just have to be "pet in different style", which is why I wanted the title edit- naming it 'okami style' is misleading.
Rofl saying you don't like sonething is not whining.
I'm not sure if the part about different art styles was there when I posted, but I wonder if that would be allowed from a consistency standpoint?
I think it would be awesome to see some pets drawn as though they were spray painted, some looking like the Okami style, sonething mucha ( i think that was the name) others in a pop art but styles (idk) but would that even be possible or would it have to be all calligraphy/all okami/all graffiti style. (Assuming a staffer could answer that)
