Hi As a newbie Im loving the site but find quite a lot of things confusing and while there are lots of helpful people here I would find it so much easier if there were little youtube films showing how to do things.
Some people find it a lot easier to learn if they actually get to see it being done (like watching a friend navigate)
For example someone talking about achievements with their computer in front of them pointing to the things on the screen saying this is the place you can see your achievements and here is where you click to do this or that. Just chatting it through as you would if you were showing a friend around that had never tried subeta before and were newbies like me
I think it would be a great way to help new people get to grips with subeta, a kind of dummies guide for newbies with tips and advice thrown in too.
I don't really think most of the features of Subeta are tedious or complicated enough for staff to create video tutorials... navigating the achievement page, for instance, could be illustrated in just a small handful of screencaps with MS Paint arrows.
Not saying a user couldn't voluntarily create the videos themselves, I just think it's unlikely for staff to do it.
This is actually something I've contemplated personally, kinda doing a "showcase" video to see if I could attract new players. Once I recover from this sinusitis, I can set aside some time to record and upload anything requested.
Send me an sMail or comment on my profile what you would like for video content.

thanks for the feedback everyone :)
I will certainly be in touch metroid and I think a user making the tutorial/ talk through would be perfect.
arcadie while Im happy for you that you feel that videos are entirely unneeded, I most certainly do have a need for them and having spoken now to about five rl friends who tried out subeta they all said pretty much the same thing - that they didnt stick with it because they couldnt get the hang of where things were and found it complicated to understand.
I think its easier if you have used neopets in the past and I do understand that once you are familiar with a site it is just so easy that you forget how some people might find it hard when they start.
I find the help forum very 'helpful' er yup lol but it kind of slows things down when you are keen to get to grips with just enjoying what is here.
Just my opinion as a newbie I am in no way knocking the site by the way, just trying to help others who might find it easier with tutorials and stick around if they did :)
Staff has expressed a lot of interest in creating a better experience for new players. There was a recent discussion about that here - More basic site information for newbies.
That's a goal that I support and one that is good for the site. However, I agree that nothing on this site is so complicated that videos are necessary to guide people.

The only thing I can really see being complicated enough to need a video is maybe the Battle Coliseum. That tiny guide they put up is a decent start, but when you really get into it, it's really complicated. Right now, those forums have a weapons guide, a scroll guide, an opponent guide, and a basic guide. It could really use a cohesive guide. "Train your pet at the gym here, these are tiers, this is how scrolls/AP work, this is a potion go equip it, some items can only be used once per battle, and some can only be used once ever, here's how you tell."
And maybe a little intro video to get users acquainted with the terms we use would be nice. "Here's your dashboard, these are widgets, here's your currencies (where they're from, how to get/spend them), this is the Subetapedia." That sort of thing, just a few seconds on each thing. Beyond that, Subeta's pretty self-explanatory.
And really even those things could probably be handled perfectly well with onsite guides rather than videos. Videos might be a good short-term measure though, until something onsite could be built.
