A few years ago we got delightfully gruesome items such as the bone handled skinning knife and torture chamber toys. There was nothing like that last year and I've yet to see anything like that this year.
The items are lovely from an artwork point of view but, to me, they seem more girly than ghoulish. I can only hope that the Holiday Shop will eventually stock something in the tradition of earlier years.
It's still pretty early days so I'm hoping for some more items soon :D.
They don't look as gruesome as the bone handled skinning knife does on an HA while, in my opinion, beanbags don't have the same Eeek!! value as Severely Rusted Mutilation Shears and other torture implements. I remember when the torture implements came out a few years back - some players wished they were wearables as well as toys.
I saw this thread hours ago and couldn't help thinking It seems a little early into the event to be complaining already, but you can't please everyone I guess.
I don't see any girly items at all (srsly, where are they?) and while there are no 'torture' items, there are plenty of gruesome ones, imo ^^ Just because they were some specific items of one kind released one year, doesn't mean we should have the same thing over again?
It's only the first full day! We have plenty of time for "creepier" items imo

The bone handled skinning knife was a ToT item a few years back. I didn't see anything as gruesome as that last year and there's nothing this year as far as ToT items go.
I'm guessing that everyone has different ideas of what qualifies as gruesome. There's also a limit to how many different kinds of torture implements there are so the artists can't keep coming up with new ones. I was just wondering if the policy is to be a little less horrific these days. I'm not going to quit the site in a huff if it is any more than I quit when SBQ became more of a fashion beautique.
As you point out there has been a larger focus on more gruesome stuff some years - but personally I love that it seems there's a different theme this year. Just like there tend to be different themes for each year of collections and the new zombie strains each year, I would look at what has been added this year for Morostide as just that; a theme, not that they're necessarily toning it down. The year with all the torture instruments and everything was a theme too albeit one on the opposite end of the spectrum. It'd get pretty boring if it was just the same thing over and over again.
I'm not against themes but I think it would be nice if there were always a number of items at the opposite end of the scale to whatever the theme is. That way, if there was another year with a horrific theme, people who wanted something less gruesome wouldn't feel left out.
PS: For those who are wondering, I regard the candified pet plushies as girly. A lot of players love them going by comments I've seen so I don't begrudge them getting such items this year.
It's probably just because the artist who used to draw the super creepy items like the ones you've mentioned is no longer on staff.
That could explain a lot. :)
It's day two of Morostide. Be patient. XD

Potter said that the artist who drew the super creepy items in no longer a staff member. I'm now accepting that super creepy items later on are unlikely for that reason and not because of a change in policy. Maybe I'll be surprised.
I love subeta so much.
Gross and questionable things get on site: People protest them being here.
Gross and questionable things toned down: People want to know why they're not around.
XD
That being said, I'm happy with whatever we get for morostide because Halloween IRL isn't all scary gross costumes. Pretty costumes are just as numerous. I like the variety.
I'm not quite sure why that warranted a ping and a quote, lol. I don't care much for creepy stuff, I really don't. Halo's Flood is about as creepy as I can get without having a bit of a panic attack so I'm rather relieved that Morostide is a bit tamer this year? XD

Morostide literally JUST started. Every single year there are multiple releases, it's too early to say 'there are no gruesome items'. WAY TOO EARLY. And while squidiot was a hugely important piece of the staff artist puzzle, her not being an artist anymore (which still depresses me like crazy ;n; ) by no means completely diminishes any chance at 'gross' items. Why you gotta give up on us so easily bro?
I doubt it was a conscious decision, but probably just a matter of what the artists happened to come up with. Anyway, the holiday will continue until the end of October and many more items will be released between now and then.
Myself I prefer the cuter side of Halloween anyway.
[edit] Beat by Pie. :)
So pickled eyeballs and snake parts in a jar are nice. Okay. Anyway, it's just the first day... XD
I am honestly glad that not everything is a bloody knife item or severed jugular or something.
It's nice to see some stuff leaning more towards pumpkins, autumn, trick-or-treating, etc. Also, it's still realllllllly early in the game. Morostide lasts many more days.
edit: Just to add, the items I look for the most are the minions, so as long as a good amount of minions are released (which there are), I'm usually happy.
