Oh dear, I do hope that goes well! I've only ever had my gall bladder removed and I was in pain for the week following because I couldn't swallow the pain pills fml Nothing bad happened tho and I mostly laid in bed and watched movies/stared at the ceiling because I couldn't really move around anywhere or sit up lmao

Yeah I even have problems swallowing my thyroid pills like no matter what I do I just can't do it or I start gagging ugh aha I am too, I was so cautious about sitting up and moving around and I didn't want to lay on my stomach (the way I usually sleep) because I'd be laying on the incisions and that'd hurt like a B so I laid on my back and I learned I don't sleep well like that lol

Hopefully you won't be bed-bound for too long, but I have a feeling being groggy on drugs and pain probably wouldn't be good incentive to get up and walk around anywhere for a bit.

Can't say I have much experience in this area. I had two local anaesthetics for ingrown toenails (one in each foot) which I had about 8 or 9 years ago, a few weeks apart from each other. It's one of the least dramatic operations you can have! I've never even had a cavity or anything done at the dentist. That said, I do have a wisdom tooth that they need to take out, but again that's very minor.

Make sure you take good care of yourself before and after the surgury, and good luck! :)

Don't fret. It's really nothing to be so concerned about.. And I'm saying this as a person petrified of surgeries, hospitals and needles.

I had 3 foot surgeries and was unable to walk for 6 months while healing. It's the recovery that you'll probably find more difficult if it limits your mobility at all. But once you're there, it's the wait that will be hard. But if you're 'going under', then you sleep and next thing you know, you're waking up and it's over.

The anticipation is much worse, so just try to stay calm and you'll be just fine.

I've had to have several surgeries throughout my life and although I was scared for each and every one of them, they all turned out relatively well. There were odd experiences with each of them of course, and the recovery period isn't exactly fun, but once it's done it'll make you sit there like, "geez, I was worried for that?" Like said, the anticipation is the worst part of it.

A story about when I had a tonsillectomy when I was around... 7 or 8 years old? It went perfectly, and when I woke up, instead of being in pain, I was totally out of it on pain meds (of course). Apparently, I'm overly affectionate and concerned for the well being of everyone around me in that state, because I was more concerned for another crying little girl the room over from me and kept trying to climb out of bed to go comfort her, and when unsuccessful with that, kept asking the nurses if she was okay. Turns out that she wasn't hurt, just scared, and to this day my family still laughs about how hellbent I was to try to get to her and make her feel better. BUT YEAH. POINT IS, you'll probably feel pretty okay when you wake up.

Good luck! I hope everything goes smoothing and you recover quick. I've only had my wisdom teeth out. I was really scared so I asked and hearing the words, "everything will be okay" really helped. So, everything will be okay hugs

Omg an upcoming surgery is sooo scary, I know how you feel right now T__T Aside from getting my wisdom teeth out, like you, I had never had to have surgery before. But a couple years ago I have surgery to have my gallbladder removed and it was actually not even bad. Now I know everyone is different and obviously different surgeries will be better/worse than others BUT keep in mind that you'll be with people that do this all the time and they know what they're doing. C: The only "hard part" (which wasn't really bad either) was getting in and out of bed while healing and being deathly afraid to take a shower because I was scared it would hurt, LOL. But it didn't and everything is fine. C8 Good luck! ❤️

I hope everything goes well! Surgery isn't usually as scary as it seems though.

I had surgery on my eyes when I was little. I don't know what they did exactly. I know they aligned one of them because it drifted outward, but they also did some other things too to improve my vision and try to get my eyes to work together properly. I just remember they were all very polite and you forget a lot of things because of the anesthetic.

Surgical doctors and nurses are completely used to anxious patients, and will be able to talk you through things and make sure you're very comfortable c:

so wake me up when it's all over
when I'm wiser and I'm older
all this time I was finding myself
and I didn't know I was lost

I tore my ACL playing rugby four years ago now, jesus when did that happen and then got it fixed when I was 18. The whole thing was actually pretty pleasant, aside from the bit about the bad knee and crutches and everything. But I was so young and all the other people in the recovery room were middle-aged and bitter and just wanted to go home, so the nurses all loved me. I got the big corner spot and they let my mom come in even though visitors were not actually allowed in that room and they kept bringing me cookies and freezies. I guess I was sweet and polite in my drugged-out daze and they just felt bad that I already had a bad knee (I maintain that I am too young to have glory days but alas), and that I had to do it the adult way rather than at the children's hospital because of a couple of months. The main nurse called me her 'little buddy in the corner' and at one point when I asked for another cookie she thought I'd asked for a margarita (???) so we had a hilarious inside joke and everything. I remember being surprised by how much everyone was doting on me - when they asked if I wanted to try walking on the crutches I sat up but immediately felt all dizzy (whaddup anaesthesia) and said could I maybe wait a minute, and they insisted that of course that was okay and I slept for like two more hours (my poor mom must have been so bored).

So yeah on the whole that's a pleasant memory, except my knee still sucks and I do not play rugby any more, which is a shame.

Hey, I had that done! I hope you're feeling well! It kinda sucked at first with the bleeding nose and all. Was told not to look down or my nose would bleed. Spent a few days on the couch with some pain pills. Not so bad, not a whole lot of pain just uncomfortable. Just be warned when they remove your splints it didn't hurt, like at all, but about 10 seconds after they removed them I almost fainted.

sorry i haven't replied sooner, i've been recovering!

and thank you so much for the gift and kind words, anon! ❤️

yeah, i gag taking these, but i mean, i don't mind AS MUCH because i'd rather not die of a horrible infection lol aw no, i feel you there. having to sleep on my back really still was probably the worst part. that and mouth breathing ugh. i can finally sleep now that i can sleep on my side again i went out for the first time today, just to the supermarket, but i feel accomplished c: i get the splints out tomorrow so that's exciting!

oral surgery can a pain but it's mostly just a 'get your hands out of my mouth' feeling haha, good luck with your wisdom tooth, and thanks!

it wasn't awful, but i panic pretty badly and cried a lot more than they probably expected :c the IV was probably the worst part though, and the wait. i still have a huge bruise from the IV. they also gave me percocet, and i'm one of the lucky ones who get extreme 36-hour nausea from even half of one. that made it a lot worse. but, it's over now! even with these things in my nose i can breathe a lot better.

aw haha that's really sweet. in my recovery room thing they had a monitor that would say bed number and patient issue and bed number 3 was going crazy. i kept trying to look at them but they were pretty far away sadly. i was sadly still terrified when i woke up and my heart rate kept spiking to 138, which worried them. but thankfully, i'm alright now, and i'm super glad it's all over with c:

aw thank you! i read that the morning before i went in and i did feel a bit better ❤️

thank you for the luck! (: i was so scared, i was shaking the whole time. the nurses and everyone were so so nice to me though. my companion was the only one who was irritated with me ahah, they allowed her to come into the pre-op area in a special suit because i was so scared. any sort of gut surgery sounds like the worst, if only because of how often you use those muscles! to not be able to use them as much, oh man. i'd be really scared to shower or even move in bed too haha

thank you! it went very well oh wow, that's pretty intense. at least they fixed it early on! i woke up really quickly after the anesthesia and i remember most of it, but i was so out of it. we passed a mall and my friend jokingly asked if i wanted to go. i didn't know she was joking and i didn't feel like going so i started crying hahah

haha there were tonnes of old people in my waiting room too! there were a couple middle aged people, and then me. that sounds like the best hospital experience ever, and a pretty good one just in general. all of my nurses kept asking me how tall i am, and they laughed when i was too tall for the stretcher and my feet were hanging off. Most nurses are really sweet people. I did keep telling one of them that i didn't want to take medicine and she was pretty forceful, but that's alright. i'm pretty pathetic when it comes to pills and pain, i have a really low tolerance. i'm really sorry to hear you don't play anymore :c rugby is the shit, fo real

oh yay! are you happy with how it turned out? how long did it take you to feel fully like yourself again? sorry if my questions bother you, i've just never met anyone else who had it done and i'm really curious. the gauze drip pad thing was so irritating, and the cotton mouth of the first couple of days. i took the pain pills for the first few days, and after that realized i didn't need them. hurrah! oh no, i wonder why. all the pressure changing, i suppose. i get my splints out tomorrow, which i'm pretty stoked for. no more mouth breathing!

I'm so so happy that it's finally over for you! :"DDDDD It's completely normal to be so scared and nervous. That's how the brain prepares for such things. If you weren't scared, something is not right, LOL. How has healing been for you so far? Hopefully well! Aww, it's so awesome that they let her come into the pre-op area to be with you! :"D A lot of places won't let anyone back there. :c And yes, I didn't realize just how much you use those muscles until that surgery, LOL. But it wasn't as bad as it may sound. I think my recovery was rather easy considering how some operations are. ^u^ Anyway, again, I'm so glad it's over for you and you won't have to stress about it anymore 8D

I was super happy with how it turned out, for about a month. I got the surgery for nasal polyps and a deviated septum and I constantly have sinus infections, so I couldn't breath out of my nose at all because it was so stuffy. It was fine for about a month and a half after surgery but came back :( As soon as the splints came out I felt amazing, it was a huge difference immediately! There was some sensitivity to breathing through my nose for the first couple of days though. Hopefully it lasts for you. Forever a mouth breather ]: lol

Yeah that's true lmao I'd rather gag down pills than deal with raging infections that could seriously screw one's day up with fevers and the possibility of death, pain pills are nothing when compared to that :P
