I don't really see or understand why they're there. The red outlines make the maps look rather unappealing and ruin the look and feel of them. You know from mousing over the place you want to go to where you're going as the name pops up when you do mouse over. I like how each location darkens a bit to let you know you're on a clickable location, but the red outline is just, w-ell, ugly, jagged and rather messy. There's really no need for them at all.

Also, on the main explore map - the mouse over names really aren't necessary. I mean, each name of each land is clearly written above or below each location. I don't see why an additional mouse over name had to be put in place. Kinda unnecessary...

They were added for a reason, mainly to help new members. I actually like them there. query thread

They were put there because a lot of people were complaining that the new maps were hard to navigate, and they no longer knew where things were. Especially new users who don't KNOW what they are looking for yet exactly.

They are useful. A few people have complained here or there but I like them quite a lot.

Edit:

Also, there is a thread that is the exact same as this one on the very first page of this forum. http://subeta.net/forums/view/894079 Sorry, are you the one to ping for this? This thread is a repeat.

At the temple, there is a poem called "Loss" carved into the stone.
It has three words, but the poet has scratched them out.
You cannot read Loss, only feel it.

Well, they could've just darkened each area in each land when mousing over insead of darkening it and putting that ugly, red line around each place when you mouse over. And I don't see or understand how or why newbies can't read the names of the different lands on the main map without them having to encorporate a mouse over with the name, too. The names aren't hidden.

However, I do like the pop-up names on the maps in general...just not on the main map XD I didn't like how the names were so invisible before XD

Honestly I don't think the red line looks ugly at all, I think it adds something haha Plus it's I think it is for emphasis

It really annoyed me, that when they added new maps, it wasn't always clear which areas were and were not hotspots. Some buildings that looked rather detailed and like they might be hotspots turned out they didn't and some really tiny areas were hard to spot (it took me a long time to realise where the Lower West Side in Centropolis was). However, I would agree that on the main map of Subeta these labels are redundant. They were already clearly labelled in the image and these additional pop-ups seem like overkill.
