We have our yearly 'Dehumanization of black people large enough to get mass media coverage' - except the police of ferguson are trying to keep it hush hush.

Everything going on there is deplorable. The police response against black Americans, unarmed citizens engaged in peaceful protests, and journalists is unbelievable. The militarization of police forces in the U.S. is terrifying.

I'm glad details are finally being released about this case, but it's ridiculous that people think murder is justified by alleged robbery of a few packs of cigarettes.

I'm all for peaceful protest, but come on! What does looting and destroying businesses that had NOTHING to do with what the police did accomplish, except to hurt other innocent people? I've heard that several owners are just throwing in the towel and plan to move elsewhere.

Amnesty International has now had to step in to a situation in the United States for the first time ever.

These reports for St. Louis Public Radio were filed by someone I know and trust who has been reporting live from Ferguson. [edit] NPR is recommending St. Louis Public Radio as a good source.

This thread was posted on Reddit yesterday. Obviously I can't speak on the legitimacy of the posts, but they're interesting.

There's a lot of conflicting information and everyone has their own bias; news corporations and people alike.

Looting is never right, though and it's especially ridiculous in a situation like this. Idiots show up at every protest, peaceful or otherwise. It's a damn shame because there are people there who genuinely care and have a point to make and want to do it peacefully but, like always, they're overshadowed by the idiots.

I hope everyone in the area stays safe.

I will love you forever if you trade me:

Heads up, anyone on Reddit should be reading r/StLouis and not r/ferguson. The latter is run by someone with too much of a personal bias to say the very least.

You know, when this whole thing started I kind of thought, "Well, another cop overreacting." Now? I'm not so sure. I do know this. The cop in question deserves a fair hearing and does NOT need to be judged in the court of public opinion. I was sickened by the chants of who do we want, how do we want him.

This^ I also believe we need to leave his family out of this. I was so angry when I heard about Anonymous releasing his daughter's information online.

And like said, there's too much conflicting information. I am extremely disgusted with the way people are acting. Peaceful protests are fine. We are entitled to them as American citizens. But the rioting is unbelievable. Why burn down someone's business? A person who has nothing to do with what happened. What do they hope to achieve by stealing, burning, and fighting? These people need to get their behavior under control because they are acting worse than animals.

Bumping because of the upcoming grand jury announcement and I need to rage talk about it.

I think what people are seeing in MO right now is civil unrest. Our community is sick and tired of being murdered in the streets by the ones who are supposed to protect us. This kind of thing has been going on for centuries, and every time we act out against it, we're the animals. That's some bullshit, man. We can express our anger and our outrage however we see fit. I, for one, am tired of people asking us to remain calm in the wake of the decision.

No justice, no peace.

People are angry that Officer Trigger-Happy had his info released? Oh well. He shouldn't have shot an unarmed black teen in broad daylight. He should be BEGGING to be put to jail; not only to ease his conscience, but to keep him off the streets if he isn't indited, because people aren't going to stand for that.

Innocent until proven guilty is a joke. That man is guilty, and I don't need any more information to know what he did was wrong. This story is quite literally black and white. This man needs to rot in jail. The blood of a young man is on his hands, and I hope that eats away at his soul every day for the rest of his life.

Even this whole announcement is a farce. If he was going to be indicted, it would have happened already. We wouldn't have to wait until nine o'clock for an answer. All this is doing is causing more tension. They want the demonstrators to wait on pins and needles, so when they finally tell us that they won't be prosecuting him, we can lash out, and they have another reason to shoot bullets and tear gas at people who only want a murder to be tried in court.

The black community isn't going to keep letting our children be shot in the streets. It's going to end, and it will not be peaceful.

I have never felt so passionate towards the promotion of peaceful protests while wanting to do little more than riot and tear down my twisted country’s increasingly lethal and grossly unapologetic institutional racism.

What an abhorrent thing that's happened tonight.

Well, what would make people here happy? For cops to just stand there and let themselves be killed? Has it ever occurred to you that maybe Darren Wilson isn't the bad guy here? Or that Michael Brown wasn't an innocent doing nothing more than jaywalking?

Generally I assume that the adult authority figure shooting an unarmed kid is the bad guy, yes.

It's irrelevant if Mike Brown did steal anything -- unless there's been a radical change to American law recently (a) theft doesn't carry the death penalty and (b) it's not a random cop's job to sentence people in the middle of the street. And even if Mike Brown and Darren Wilson got into a physical confrontation, Wilson is only authorized to use equal force. Self-defence isn't a thing if you pull a gun on someone using their hands. Even if you take racism out as the motivating factor (and personally I do think it's a big part of what happened, but whatever), Wilson is still in the wrong according to the law. Pure and simple.

I'm with ; if you think Wilson's actions were in any way justified you can straight-up block me.

Agreeing with as well. If you side with that racist piece of human garbage that calls itself Darren Wilson, if you in any way work to "justify" the summary murder of an unarmed black teenager - especially when other police officers are at least fired for killing dogs - then block me.

I'll return the favor. It's not like I've got anything civil to say to anyone like that, anyway.

But anyway.

Now, watch.

Even more white cops will start killing even more black kids.

Because now they know, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that they can do it with impunity.

This Grand Jury has set a precedent. They knew that they were being watched by the entire nation. They knew, and still refused to carry out justice. By allowing Darren Wilson to walk free, they are encouraging police departments nationwide to turn a blind eye to police brutality against black men and women and emboldening police officers who might otherwise have thought twice about murder, thereby perverting the course of justice and proving, once and for all, that “to serve and protect” is a blatant lie.

I do hope they like the color red, because there isn’t enough bleach in the world to wash away the bloodstains on their hands.
