We had an incident very similar to this in Hawaii, federal officer shot an unarmed local man, and people did protest when the jury failed to make a judgement call on the issue but we didn't run around destroying everything as that serves no purpose. I think the shit stirrers in Ferguson need to gtfo and let the ones who deserve and want to peacefully protest do what they need to do. They want change, the chance to have themselves heard so that Michaels death won't be in vain. How is that going to be accomplished when the rest of the world is watching these miscreants loot and destroy like a two year old throwing a temper tantrum?
Disrespectful to disregard the wishes of a grieving family.
In hawaii, we weren't threatened with riot armor police with guns and tear gas when there was outrage at the shooting. In Ferguson, there is a history of racial tension, even seen in arrest and handle statistics based on race. It's a history of being suppressed and frustration that we cant hope to understand. Brown's death was the catalyst rather than a single event, for all of the cop corruption, fear and racism these people have go through, and to have the jury (2 black, 9 white) and court come out with no charges for Wilson, that's a great anger, like being backstabbed once again.
This is after months of dealing with police brutality, protests both peaceful and violent. Of course people will be angry. In Hawaii did not have a history of cop brutality as blatant as this. It cant be comparednOahu is not an extremely white dominant society either.
I do not advocate violent protest however, and I am saddened to see things have reached this stage, but there are still peaceful protestors going on, thankfully encouraged by Brown's parents. Not all rioters are protesters and not all protestors are rioters. There are still peaceful protest groups, such as the silent crowd that sat in front of the court, but of course newspapers will show purely scenes of damage because its more interesting.
edit: yeesh, phone really doesn't like forums. fixed
It doesn't take much to disrupt a heart. That's why you have to be very careful even with those defibrillators because you can throw their hearts all out of whack if you aren't careful.
The entire training program for cops in the US needs to be reexamined, especially after this... and not assume that everyone wearing a hoodie is a criminal.

I agree with you. What is to gain by setting innocent local businesses and cars on fire? They are disrespecting the victim's family with their actions. Doing exactly what his family asked them not to do.
Personally, I think that blocking someone simply for having a different opinion than you, (and states it without screaming at you or being nasty) is kind of petty. I thought the Subeta community was better than that :/
[edit] Yes, people have been blocking me over what I wrote in this fairly neutral post. Seriously. If that's not petty I don't know what is. I don't know what I said that was offensive, but..sorry? :/
Sorry, do you want information that's already out spoonfed to you?
We have the court case, printed in text. We have various video and social media feeds on early relatively peaceful, if not forceful, protests being slammed down by police in riot gear. After the court case, we see the amount of shots, various witness reports and the fact that Brown was not armed.
Again, we have the whole bloody case text out, but I guess that doesn't count as facts, huh.
And, gosh, how dare people be mad about racism and disgusting cop corruption. Ludicrous.
Brown's death is the boiling point for years of fear of the police, history of unjustified shooting of non-whites against the police, racism in a community with white police leaders and government officials.
There were peaceful protests, if not forceful, for MONTHS. They were answered with threats and riotgear.

Fix'd. Cops seem to only know how to shoot a gun instead of learning actual self-defense.

It makes me sad that a small group of rotten apples break the whole point of their manifestation. I just wish that Michael (and everyone else that has been killed by cops) gets justice in PEACE. Violence was what ended them, let's not corrupt their memories.
But try telling that so any other abuse victim who's been beaten, backed into a corner, and threatened by someone more powerful than themselves on a regular basis. Why is this situation any different just because both "abused" and "abuser" happen to be black civilian and white cop communities rather than individuals?
Sometimes the only reasonable response to mindless violence is force. That's what we're seeing now, and it's more than justified, IMO.
Uh yes, I didn't meant the opposite. It's just awful to see civilian shooted, beaten and repressed because of their desire for justice. I'm reading articles about how the government wish to "limit" the free will of speech, it saddens me.
I've been arrested and beaten while participating in different peaceful protest against the raise of tuition fees and police brutality. I don't like cops anymore and they shouldn't be represented as "perfect people keeping peace", they obviously aren't. The way they are forming their police officer is dangerous, antic and it's not reflecting anything about our current "social tissue". I've seen a young male being shot because he was bipolar and the officer couldn't understand anything.
