I was thinking, that a new feature could be added to the pet spotlight, to make it more interesting and if you want too, a little harder.

Add to the selection process, the fact that during a site event only pets related to that event can be selected.

For example, during morostide, only graveyard, nightmare, bloodred pets, or with a horror story or based in a horror movie, character, etc can win.

I think that this could motivate users to create pets more related to subeta with less "real world" influence. Also, make a bigger deal out of pets during events, because people care more about plots and new items than pets during an event.

And of course, when there's no event all pets can be selectec.

[edit] oh, and i just came up with another idea, maybe this pets that are more related to a site event can have a bigger chance to defeat the harder enemies that came with a site plot, or even all the spotlight winners can have this extra chance.

I think it's hard enough of a contest as is. By throwing more restrictions on when a winner can be chosen, it just defeats the purpose of surprise I think. Some people don't want to have characters strictly related to Subeta; too reminiscent of Neopets with that Neopians and their pets garbage, mostly seen in the Times and such.

Besides, the winner selected on a daily basis is run by a program that automatically chooses at random who wins. Computers ain't that smart. xD

This would be really difficult to make happen, as far as categorizing them by story type would go. Because then whoever reviews the pets would have to not only review them but decide what category the pet falls into- that alone could cause TONS of fuss and of course there are tons of pets who don't really have a specific "category" that they could easily be placed in so that would cause some confusion.

I like the spotlight as is. Like said, it adds some element of surprise and keeps it fair for all. I like knowing a variety of pets win with very different stories- it would be boring to see a dozen spooky stories in a row even if it is Morostide.

...I think there has been a lot of frustration happening about pets being booted from the PS queue lately, so I don't really think it has to get any harder :/ It's not a bad idea at all, I just don't think it's feasible at this point. Nor it is really fair for the battlers imo, they'd have to repaint their pets for every event and it would make everything more expensive :x

Noooo from September to pretty much April/May is just non-stop events; 'normal' pets would never make it into the spotlight.

Not only because of what other people have said but because that all of the "spooky" colored pets might not actually have creepy characters? And the glacier pets might not have a winter related story/character? and so on and so forth.
