Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but I might as well see what everyone thinks.

The button for searching shops needs to be moved to the side of the search bar, in my opinion. I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but I like completely typing out the name because the auto complete is so slow to show up most times. When I'm done, I'll try to press the search shops button. But oh no, the auto complete showed up and I clicked that instead, completely changing the item I was looking for. If the button were on the side, there would be no issue.

On the same topic, I would press enter to search a lot more if it didn't auto complete the item name for me when I did. I can't think of a specific item right now, so I'll make one up for an example. Let's say I was looking for an item called "Grape". I'd type that in and press enter. However, alphabetically, the item "Blue Grape" is the first, and the auto complete changes it to that.

Of course, these are only really issues when I'm rushing while searching the shops. If I'm taking my time with searching for things, it's still bothersome that I have to perform those two checks. "Will autocomplete block me from searching" or "Will pressing enter change it to the blue version"?

However, if I'm trying to buy things in time for a quest, then I end up bumbling around a bit as I constantly run into these problems.

You can have a Shop Search widget on your sidebar. It doesn't auto-complete. Go to the Customize Sidebar tab under the Personal drop-down menu.

While I'll agree, it's harder to access if you get pending alerts during a quest.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel like a side widget should replace the actual function. If people have to use the side bar just because using the actual shop is more annoying, something's wrong. If they're just using it because they know what they want and it's faster, whatever. But if they're using it just to specifically avoid using the full version, something's gotta change.

More than likely I'm the only one with this problem. But if it's more than just me, is it not worth changing?

You can turn off alerts while you quest. Also, it's been mentioned a few times that questing isn't supposed to be easy. Give the site a chance. :)

Sorry, I like knowing what's going on. Alerts are too helpful to turn off.

Questing shouldn't be hard because the shop is a little wonky. I'm not understanding your logic on this one. Sorry if I come off as rude, I'm just confused on why you brought this up.

I love this site. Really, I do. That's why I'm asking for improvements on some things I find to be a bit weird or annoying. I'm not going to just outright leave the site because of this. I won't really be saddened if this doesn't get implemented. I'm trying to help improve the experience, even in the slightest bit.

I'm not understanding which shop is wonky? Obviously questing shouldn't be harder because of some kind of error. Sorry about that. I think it's good that we have a Shop Search that autocompletes and another one that doesn't personally.

Sorry, I meant Shop Searcher. :P (The one that's not the side bar).

I'll try one more time to explain it. Probably not very well.

Let's say I want to use the shop search to find "Grape Hat Supreme". I type in "Grape hat s" and press enter, expecting it to auto complete to "Grape Hat Supreme" on the search. Normally the drop down auto complete will kick in right then. The drop down auto complete is normally slow to show up, so it's only processed results for "Grape". Now my search bar says "Grapes" instead of what I wanted.

Another scenario would be typing in "Grape hat supreme", the name of the full item, and pressing enter, expecting the result to be "Grape Hat Supreme". The drop down auto complete will see that and fill it in with the first thing on it's list that has "Grape hat supreme" on it. Alphabetically, "Blue Grape Hat Supreme" is the first result. Now the search bar says "Blue Grape Hat Supreme". Now I've gotta waste time to get rid of the "Blue" part in the title and I've lost turning in the Grape Hat Supreme to the wizard within 10 seconds or something.

These two examples would have been prevented had the drop down auto complete not been activated by pressing enter.

My last gripe with it is that the search shop button is right under the input box. I would type in "Grape Hat Supreme" and go to press the search button. The drop down auto complete now shows up and blocks the button, so now I've clicked "Red Grape Hat Supreme" on accident and have to waste time deleting the "red" part and trying to hit the search button again.

This one should be an easy fix if this happens to anyone else and is worth fixing. Just move the search button to the right side of the search bar. It is no longer in the way.

Ah ok. Autocorrect issues and the drop-down obscuring the "Search Shops" button. Gotcha. I don't know if these things bother you outside of quests, but I find copying and pasting much faster than typing in item names during quests. I hope that helps with your problems during questing at least.

Have you tried copying and pasting the item names instead of typing them? I just triple-click the item name to select it, then ctrl+c, ctrl+v, enter.

jk reine just said this. I should read before I post. :P

Yes, but that still doesn't help the fact that it gets in the way just in casual use, also. The copy/paste thing only works in quest situations.

I'm sorry to say this, but I really don't think the right attitude is "Well, if you just do this and this and this you can work around it". You shouldn't have to work around it.

You can just put the "alerts" section under the shop search on the sidebar? Then you can quest (much) faster, and still get your alerts in a timely manner, AND not have the autocorrect go.

If the search button was moved to the right, it would solve the problem completely without having to do any sort of work-arounds.

I've had this issue too on occasion, and it's a bit annoying.

When I do that, it will still auto-fill when I press enter unfortunately : (

If it can be worked around it should be. It's a lot easier to modify individual users behavior rather than change the whole site. The situation would be different if the issue couldn't be worked around at all. In my opinion, the Shop Search widget addresses this.

It works if you press enter immediately after pasting so it doesn't have time to think. It's really easy to get used to, and it becomes second nature after a short while.

Yeah, but that's kind of silly. "Just get used to it" isn't really a fix to a problem that is probably affecting more people than you realize ^^;

It won't negatively effect you or anyone else. This will only help others with the same problem I'm having. You already use the workarounds, apparently. So does pretty much everyone else in this thread. But you're saying that because you can have a side bar widget that also searches the shop, it's okay to leave design flaws in.

Is there any real reason you're opposed to this, or are you just refusing change because you personally are not effected by it?

I oppose this because I think the effort from site programmers should be spent on more pressing issues that aren't solved easily. I'm open to hearing out supporters opinions on this though, so I'm just waiting for feedback from more than two users.

Here, I did it for them.

New code:

It wasn't pressing, it was maybe a 5 minute fix. The hardest part was finding where the code was.

I wouldn't mind having an available option for something like that, but I really don't think it's a necessary change. I like never use the shop search button, I press enter but I really like how all the elements on the shop search page fit together aesthetically. It's something that isn't really hard to work around, and like was said you can use the sidebar and just set it to Dashboard rather than Events or Smart for questing so your events don't screw anything up.

There, it looks better than before. I never understood why that selection box was so large just to display "Galleries".
