If your dentist claims your wisdom teeth are going to come in and be harmful. Do yourself a favour and listen to them.

I'm currently 24 and over the last few years I've randomly been getting pain in my jaw (not part of my TMJ mind you). The pain is like a hardcore form of teething where it feels like I'm constantly eating my cheek. The pain against my mouth is raw and really uncomfortable. I usually end up chewing on my finger or even cardboard because it usually helps the pain. Last week was the first time I decided to see someone about it. I woke up crying in pain because honestly, it really hurts. It turns out that the pain I was feeling was because my body was attempting to fight off a severe viral infection in my gums caused by my wisdom teeth. So I had to see a dentist as an emergency. I'm currently on 2 painkillers and antibotics. I've also got a referral to see a dentist that usually only pulls teeth, however it's high suggested that I see an oral surgeon. Appreantly my wisdom teeth are growing so fucked up that the roots pretty much make a heart, you see, they curve inward and are pinching a nerve as they grow.

So now getting my wisdom teeth removed is pretty much an emergency.

TL : DR Get your wisdom teeth out or bad shit happens.

Anyone else have issues with things they ignored from doctors/dentists suggesting and have bad shit happen?

Good luck! My BF's wisdom teeth surgery was only an hour, but he had to rest for up to two or three days due to the powerful drugs they used to sedate him.

My dentist also recommended I also get my wisdom teeth out soon - I'm 20 - but my third molars never fully erupted, either. (To date I've had four teeth out due to stunted tooth growth and a small mouth.)

Yeah, My dentist pretty much said no matter what I wanna be knocked out cuz she thinks I might have a panic attack from it. It's really scary.

My bf never got his wisdom teeth because he has an overcrowded jaw so there was no room for the teeth to even start to grow. Is that your problem as well? I don't think he's had anything removed him his mouth =x I can't imagine the amount of pain of having a tooth ripped from my mouth.

Yeah...in that case, you will be pretty much delirious or semi-delirious for the next day or so after. My BF was only semi-conscious for up to 24 hours after his surgery. His gums also bled often.

Yes, I do have an overcrowded jaw - as well as overactive salivary glands.

I'm so sorry! I hope everything turns alright for you, toothache (that word sounds so... insufficient to describe what you must be feeling) is one of the worst feelings. :c

I used to be scared of going to the dentist, or more like, I just didn't want to, and I didn't brush my teeth very often... Two years ago I finally grew a backbone, I started taking care of myself, and I made an appointment. I had a huge cavity in one of my front teeth (which also affected my already low self-esteem), and some other smaller ones. I was so thankful when it was over and I had nice, healthy teeth again. Nowadays I brush twice a day and avoid soft drinks, I've learned from my mistake. :)

I can feel a wisdom teeth coming up, I think. There's a hard little thing poking out from the back of the teeth row. I'm totally going to mention it to my dentist when I make my next appointment.

Oh god gums bled?? That scares me, like.. a lot. As for delirious, I suppose I can live with that lol!

Did pulling the teeth out actually help the positioning of your teeth? like how old were you? They wanted to break my bf's jaw and "relign it" when he was like 8. As for overactive saliva glands, that means you have a lot of spit I take it? My mom had to have one of her glands removed because it got blocked and started expending to the point it almost knocked her windpipe out of place =x Hopefully yours won't do that.

I've come to notice that some of the most painful "normal" things (outside of like a broken bone or a gunshot lol >.< ) seems to always come from the mouth or jaw.

It's very possible you might have good wisdom teeth, but it's very rare from what I hear. They can usually tell you from a simple xray, but getting them out is not cheap sadly :( I actually had a cavity in the center of my top front teeth that had to be fixed awhile back. Thank god you got to it though, My mom tells me root canals are not fun, and it's usually the result of a deep cavity. And she had a botched root canal when I was like 11 and ended up getting blood poisoning and spent a week in the hospital. Turns out your mouth is serious business lol

I got my wisdom teeth out my junior year in high school. I was absolutely terrified about the surgery and I made them put me completely under so I wouldn't have a panic attack. But everything went fine...I didn't even have any pain really. I ate mashed potatoes from KFC and lots of ice cream for a few days and got effed up on vicodin and tylenol 3, but that's about it, lol. I hope yours goes easy like that. My bottom two were impacted and I thought it was going to be terrible, but I got lucky.

Nothing so dramatic, but I too questioned whether I really needed my wisdom teeth out..then they did x-rays and told me my teeth were growing in sideways, yikes. I got them yanked a few months later.

I do need to get my jaw realigned but I can't afford it right now and insurance sees it as cosmetic. So that's being put off until I either get better insurance or $30k.

Yeah, my dentist was telling me it's quick and nearly painless if you let them put you under. So I'm thinking that's the way to go =x

They told me this like 3-4 years ago and I said no >.> Big mistake on that lol. Really insurance sees realignment as cosmetic? That's brutal, and really unfair :( I'm sorry to hear that.

That sounds terrifying. I'm 26 and hope mine never come in (and I have no insurance), but my dad was 30/early 30's when he had his taken out, and my tooth-history is closer to my dads than my moms.

Yeah, it can be done as a completely elective cosmetic surgery so the insurance company thinks they all count like that. Very frustrating. I've been told if I don't get it fixed that I'll lose half of my teeth by the time I'm 50.

With that many, they might even just rip them out and give you dentures =x I know one of my older friends had to have all his removed and replaced with dentures because he has celiacs and diabetes so his teeth rotted no matter what he tried. His oral health went up like 300% after though.

Do you even know if you have any? I mean, have you had xrays for them?

That doesn't seem fair at all :( I'm sorry

Well..they refuse to take them off saying that they are good and I'm still young. The fact is,my mouth is as large as a 8 year old child.I'll need orthodontic services after taking care of my 11(even more maybe) rotten tooth.

I honestly don't know. I haven't had my mouth x-rayed in probably 10 years. Though I am missing one adult tooth that just isn't there, which my dad has that same issue. So it's possible that if I do have them, I might get them in in my early 30's.

Yikes, Maybe they will file down and replace the bad ones (I think they are called caps or something?). Only problem is those can cost like 1000 per tooth (so I've heard). Size of an 8 year old? wow, so that must be really hard to brush then :(

Sometimes the sooner the better (assuming you can afford it) My mom keeps telling me not to take dental issues lightly because of the negative effects they can have on your health in general =/

Yeah, my mom has had like 6 root canals. She said it's the most painful thing ever (but she also claims she'd rather have a root canal than teeth pulled)

I don't have any kind of insurance right now, I know I have a cavity in a right molar, and an auto-immune disease, but no insurance/no job. My parents just spent $340 to get me diagnosed and treated with pneumonia. And if a tooth gets infected, it can kill a person.
