THis I think if it can help kids to say no to guns and saves lives, than it is worth it.

I wish more parents would teach their kids themselves though. Some pretty basic knowledge would save a lot of people...but I'm not sure whatever they'll learn in school is going to be enough. I mean, look at sex ed. A bunch of prudes who think their kid knowing what goes where and why makes them less innocent or more likely to get pregnant have watered it down so that pretty much nothing of value gets taught. It'll be the same with firearms safety.

It leads to MSN but MSN's source is Fox News. (Which there is nothing wrong with, but its a conservative news source.)

I don't think there is anything wrong with this. The school districts have a choice in the matter if they want to teach it. I think it will be taught like a fire safety course, like the "Stop, drop and roll" thing. I remember being taught the "If you see a gun, don't touch it, tell an adult." motto in first grade. This course isn't teaching children to use a gun, just if you see one, go tell an adult. I don't see what's wrong with it. I think parents should have already taught their children this, especially if there is a gun in the home. I don't see this as a negative thing, just another tool to help young children in the long run.

I'd consider the Wall Street Journal a reputable news organization that leans conservative, but Fox News is more opinion and entertainment really. I feel the same way about MSNBC as a liberal "news" organization. Pundits ≠ journalists.

I hate guns, hate them with a passion and am pretty staunchly on the side of more gun laws, but I can see why they want this.

Truth is, kids will find a way to get guns because there will always be parents who are negligent, so better a kid learn how to safely handle one then accidentally find one in mommy's gun drawer and shoot themselves because quite honestly, I don't think most parents will teach them.

I file this under Good idea, but something that ought to have been taught at home if their parents aren't complete idiots.

i think it's a good idea but it's definitely not enough. parents need to educate their kids on the issue as well

it's like with sex ed. most people go through it in class but parents still should have the talk with their kids to make sure they understand
