How do you like to work on your pets?
Do you just sort of do a little here, a dabble there, maybe work on this pet for a bit.....a new one tomorrow.... or do you work on ONE pet at a time, and just finish everything, story, art and profile, and then move on?
Cause RN I'm sort of doing the former, but I feel like I'm not getting anything done, actually. So I think I'm going to just push through and work on one until it's done.
How do you work? What is the best way that you've found to actually get stuff done?
because, pets
NOT EJACULATING.
Um it depends. Before I used to fly through completing pets, but I've slowed down considerably. I still can shit out profiles and designs rather quickly, but getting the art from people sometimes delays how finished my pets can really be, you know? Since that element is mostly out of my control. (can't draaaaaw)
Writing takes a while too, but some pets I can just explode and write an entire story in a couple hours, sometimes it takes a couple months LOOL. It really is very sporadic.
Oh forgot your last two Q's lmfao. How do I work? Um I just sit my ass in front of the computer and fuck around in GIMP when making a profile, or just write a bit, then skip around the internet, then write more, then maybe look for DW gifs search videos of bag-slappahs do something else for a while, then write moaaaaaar.
The best way I've found to work is to just let the words escape my .. keyboard? xD Just write a passage and then edit it later or fix any weird sentences etc. Just don't think about where you're going, really, and write write write before polishing it up. c: Profiles I just.... dick around.. until something comes together.
I definitely just find time and sit down and get a pet done when I'm inspired. Lately I've been too busy to do anything, but most of my pets have had their stories written in one or two sittings, when I have my train of thought :)
My pets are just kind of in this continual cycle where I'll work on a few (mainly story-wise) for a bit until I lose inspiration (which happens far too often sldkfjlsdjf), then I'll cycle onto some other pets because inspiration for them will suddenly hit, lmao. I honestly can't say that I've ever finished a pet's story quickly (unless you count Cygnus' "story" as one, which I don't, it's just sort of a summary thing? idk I feel like there's a difference between stories/summaries/descriptions of pets, but my legitimate stories often get out of hand, which is one reason why they take me so long to complete. It's also due to laziness though. :p)
I sort of do this thing where I either get the profile or the story done first, and then work on the other, except I've been trying to train myself out of it because I'll end up getting this super amazing profile, then losing inspiration for the story, and then I just kind of have this profile that just... sits there collecting dust because idk what to do with it anymore. D:
UM WELL I feel like the best way that I get stuff done is having a slave driver crack a whip over my head! It's really effective, actually. Um no but seriously, I guess I've sort of learned to be my own slave driver, in a sense? It also helps, at least for me, when I'm not /super/ stressed out about anything, and I don't have anything pressing to do irl (no deadlines or papers or shit that I ought to do nagging me), but that rarely happens, which is why my pets mostly just sit in limbo while thoughts twirl around in my head.
so YEAH. also sometimes I'll see random little pictures/photos on tumblr that I find really inspiring? Those help me write sometimes too. C8
if it's profile related, I don't get stuff done anymore welp
I kinda dabble on working on them. Unless I get particularly inspired and am just like GO GO GO and get a profile and get sparked and finish in one big shebang. I need profiles u___u;;;
I usually put on some music and just write, and then go back and reread it.
I can fix and tweak things in a random way, like fixing one pet's story today, and fixing another pet's profile the next day. But speaking of finishing a pet, I like to focus just on one at a time. If I get a solid direction on what I want to do with a pet, I just push things through quickly. It's like I'm so obsessed that I don't want to stop until I'm done @.

I just work on them as I please. I don't like to rush writing because if I'm not in the right frame of mind or mood to do so, the writing turns into crap. It can take me a loooong time to finish a single story, then there are times when I'm super inspired and can get one done in a day. I work on TCs all the time, usually building them up before I even have the pet. As for profiles, those are a whole other nightmare xD
How do I work? I sit on the sofa or on my bed with iTunes on shuffle and brainstorm. I try to develop an outline for what I want to write, but a lot of the time I don't have a plan either haha.
Rarely do I ever just sit down and hammer out a pet all in one go. I usually have to wait at least on art to be drawn for me, so I never feel really pressured to just GOGOGOGO! on one particular pet. I usually move between pets or work on a couple at the same time (Order Art for this one, hammer out a story for this one, buy TC items for this one, etc.). Even without outsourcing, I'm really sporadic. For some of my pets, I get their stories written out in a day. Others, I drag my feet and take ages. I wrote Villain's all in one afternoon. Radcliffe was missing the last two paragraphs of his for over a month. Penelope has been in her current half-assed state since... I don't even know when. -shrug-
As for how I work/stay motivated... I don't? Haha. I really just work on a pet when I feel inspired to, and do something else when I'm not. I know I'll get it don't eventually, and I'll just stress myself and wind up creating crap if I try to force it, so I leave well enough alone and wait for my muse to get her butt in gear.
I can spend weeks driving home, which is about 45 minutes of classical music on NPR, thinking about the current pet I'm working on. But I generally start on profiles first, and then work on story. I'll bounce around though on ideas for pets that I haven't quite put into cement.
The worst situations for me however are when I'm writing and the story evolves to something completely different than what I originally set out to do. Sometimes that change works out for the better, and sometimes it just keeps evolving.
Bam is the exact opposite of what I do. I have literally never finished a pet. I guess dabble? I kind of like. Plan out the entire thing in my head slowly. I write stories kind of one line at a time, completely out of order, and don't write them down until most of it's there. Which is the opposite of how people in general should write and I constantly forget stories and that slows me down even more. BUT THEY EXIST SO FULLY IN MY HEAD. Also I'm stubbornly insisting that I'm going to do their profiles myself but before I can do that I have to draw things and and and When waves of inspiration coincide with lots of free time I get a lot done at once though, so that's kind of nice And some things, like TCs and colour and stuff, get done right away. Or at least planned out. I still have to buy lots of items. But the main things - story art profile - are such a slow thing. But right now I keep getting up early for no reason and don't work until 5 so hopefully it'll pick up a bit.

I dabble here and there, when I get money or SP I buy some TC and art in bunches. Don't think i'd get very far if i focused on one pet till it was done. None of my pets will be where they are at if I did. xD
Oh gosh I don't even know anymore. I kind of just work on little bits when I get seized by something - like an idea is so fully formed in my head that I have to go get it down before it's gone. Then, it can last for just a few minutes, or it might last for hours and I'll finish the pet completely. But most likely, I'll just manage to get a few paragraphs written, and then maybe get stuck and work on adding some TC items or something. I used to finish things a lot more quickly, because I was better at making myself go back to it after taking a break. Now, I get distracted by IRC things. xD Because I don't make my profiles/art myself, I usually don't get things all done on the same day. But getting a profile or art piece can inspire me enough to churn out a good portion of a story.
Best way to get things done: tell someone you want to get x amount done. Have them check up on you to see if you did it. Most likely, they're not going to be mad at you for NOT getting it done, but you'll still feel more compelled to finish it so they can see it. Or, just make sure you write things down when you feel them. There are so many times when I have thought of something that I thought was really good, but for whatever reason, I wait to write it down, and then by the time I do write it down, I've either forgotten it partially, or I remember it, but I've lost motivation again.
I'll often get the story done first, and then keep that aside for awhile, and then gradually work on the TC while getting the profile done all in a round or two before putting it all together. In most cases, story comes before profile, unless I get divine inspiration for a profile layout and the colors. It really varies from pet to pet. I can't get a pet finished all at once, but the vital parts of one can be churned out in their own respective bursts if I have enough muse for that particular character.
Uuuuh, lately it's actually been a bit of the former, as I've not been able to pay enough attention to one character for very long. It's rather strange - I really do prefer working on pets one at a time, but lately I just can't help but write something here, draw something there, design a profile for this and that... Unless inspiration hits me, of course, but lately there's been no time to take advantage of inspiration. :c Perhaps things will go back to my normal way of working when I'm less busy in real life, but for now this is how things go. It doesn't really feel like I'm getting much done, either, but it's not been all bad, I suppose... At least I'm doing something instead of nothing!
How do I work? How's the best way to get things done? Uh, I like to sit in a quiet room and think about a lot of irrelevant things. And then if I'm lucky I may actually get to working on my pets. But really, I do like to work late at night when the house is quiet - it's easiest to write and focus on art or coding then. c: Maybe I'll work on a pet or two tonight, now that I'm thinking about it...

I just work on them as I please. I'm one of those people who can't just work on something for the sake of it. I need to be inspired really... So I tend to dabble on one pet, then work on another etcetc Baha. I don't get that much done but they're my pets so I don't really care 8D I think I'm just weird like that, not too bothered with completing things as soon as possible.
I really just go into phases with them. I might make a new pet and try and shove a personality into it, then months later realizing that it's totally retarded and abort it. Or I become really infatuated with a certain pet and work on it constantly for a few weeks or so, sometimes just a few days or even one day. Really though my pets that I have obviously put more work into, I've been working on for years on and off. :) Since I do pretty much play subeta only seasonally. Honestly I haven't even played in almost 3 months, got bored in the middle of the day today and started panicking about getting all the vesnali items x) like that's gonna happen.
[flower=violette]
I have the problem of I can churn out stories, If I had the time xD But I'm always inspired when I'm busy with school, so when I do have the time, I feel so uninspired to do anything xD ALWAYS. So my pets are worked on sporadically, though I do tend to work on one pet at a time and finish up the stories rather quickly? Depends on how long or short the story ends up being.
When I'm on holidays it's usually BAM, finish one pet all in the space of a few days. It's mostly getting the art done that takes the longest. (I hardly get to draw for myself, haha.) The moment I have their art completely finished I get the profile up and the story done in a very short space of time. Most of my pet stories aren't super complex or anything so they're reasonably fast and easy to write. (Some, like Chernoby's, take a little longer.) The general concept behind a pet is there when I create him/her so it's not like I have to sit around waiting for inspiration to strike. I also tend to make small edits well after the pet has been spotlight nominated. (I... really need to stop doing that. They'll never win if I keep bumping them into the edit queue!)
Treasure chests are something I continually add to over time, whenever I stumble across appropriate items. They're less important for my pets then the art/profile/story.
Since I'm studying now I really can't draw, save for the few things I owe people. So if a piece of dialogue or description or whatever pops into my mind for any one particular pet, I jot it down. Depends on who is inhabiting my mind at the time. Come the holidays though, I'll focus them one at a time again.
I suck at profiles... pretty hardcore. My knowledge of CSS is VERY basic and like 99% of it is derived from the CSS compendium that various lovely users have contributed to. Without that thread my pets would seriously be plain blank slates omg v_____v So most of my pets use the same 'template' since it's basically my coding masterpiece and the only thing I know how to do. Which means profiles are generally the easy part since all I have to do is find the perfect background (which is harder than it sounds! Sometimes it takes days of searching to find the right fit), then I edit fonts, font colors, borders, overlays, add in art, etc.
Treasures are never finished imo. As long as new items keep coming out, I'll always be adding in new stuff that fits into my pet's characters. I have 21 pets so I can find a use for nearly any type of item and my pet's wishlists are ever-growing.
Stories are the hardest part for me. I suck at writing and for me it's hard to create stories that have depth and are interesting, but are also short in length. I personally rarely read pets with long stories, so I like to keep mine as short and sweet as possible. It's just hard mastering how to make it short yet still squeeze in every detail that you want to. I revise my pet's stories every couple months- just to check for typos/grammer mistakes/things I want to change/add in/get rid of. Stories are never really "finished" since I'm usually altering them in some way.
But I usually work on my pets in one go. When I develop a new pet, I usually plan out about 40ish treasure slots in MSPaint then buy the items and rearrange them. I like seeing how items look next to each other before I buy them- I'm seriously so strict when it comes to theme/color combos of items! Then I draw art beforehand, write the basic story outline (which I then work on later and edit or whatever), and edit the CSS to try and customize the pet as much as I can. I do small edits over time but I do the biggest chunks all in one burst. Sometimes I'll go for weeks being uninspired and not even viewing my Pets page, then other weeks I'm working on them 24/7. Long post is long!
