DUDE!!!
I just saw this movie last night (August 1st release in the US) and HOLY COW. WOW. You know how you wait like six months+ for something and you get SO PUMPED and almost just beautifully set yourself up for disappointment? WELL IT WAS BETTER THAN I HAD EVER HOPED FOR OR IMAGINED. IT WAS SO GOOD.
That in mind: I loved it, maybe you didn't! BUT MAYBE YOU DID AND WE CAN TALK ABOUT THAT.
But yeah. Felt like this thread needed to happen. Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana guys, c'mon. (And Vin Diesel as Groot. Have you seen his pictures from the premier? What a nerd.)
I adored it too! There wasnt a second of it that i didnt love!! And the post credits scene was brilliant!! I completely fell in love with Rocket and Groot! Ive not seen pics from the US premiere, but i went to the one in London and Vin Diesel was awesome! Ive never seen any of his movies because he always seemed to annoy me for some reason, but now im completely in love with him because he was such a down to earth, friendly guy!! XD He turned up on stilts wearing an I Am Groot tshirt which was pretty cool! (I got a free tshirt too, which was awesome!)

let me get this straight: you were THERE? you WENT TO THE LONDON PREMIERE??? holy SHIT dude my friend was showing me pictures of vin diesel on those stilts!! THAT'S CRAZY. THAT'S AMAZING. GOD FUCK WOW
that started sounding sarcastic in my head at the end there but i assure you i am just really fucking excited about this amazing movie. and all the attention that chris pratt is getting from it!! (also zoe saldana, my fave.)
i actually also might see it again... today. tonight. second time. planning on at least two more. it's bad, dude. like, worse than when star trek into darkness came out
I'm kind of in love with Vin Diesel just because he's an unabashed nerd. He's such a sweetie, from what I can tell! I'm so delighted he got to be Groot, because even though you can't really see him what with the CGI, there's still...so much heart there.
I went with my buddies on opening night and was delighted. I knew nothing about GotG prior to about a year ago, and I thought to myself "how did I somehow miss this whole group of people and this whole extensive backstory and...wait, really? A raccoon? Okay. Uh. Tentative hope, then." I tried for so long not to hope, because there have been so many sort of okay and even more blah sci/fi and/or superhero movies out there, so I deliberately went in expecting a ham-handed, over CGI'd, silly and/or stupid movie where the writers treated the audience like morons (Star Trek Into Darkness, I'm looking at you).
But I was blown away by this movie and am seeing it again, at full price, tonight with my buddies. Again. xD I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH. Yeah, some of the humor's eye-rolling, but there's secondary character development! Just enough character exposition to set the scene for newbies to the fandom like me, but not too much to be thuddy or expositiony! It's a whole team of loveable jerks who end up doing good despite themselves, and how endearing is that?
I have to admit I was quite ranty at first about Zoe Saldana being in this movie, because I felt like it was a name recognition grab because of ST:ID and why couldn't they have picked a lesser known actress blah blah blah....and she totally sold me on the character and the part. I'm onboard the Zoe fan wagon now. :3 So yes, if this movie can even redeem my grinchy pinchy little pessimistic heart...
Plus it's GORGEOUS. JUST BEYOND GORGEOUS. His ship. I want it so bad. Those space vistas blew me away every time. Even the interior of the ship, as they're sitting around just talking, is beautiful and well constructed and just...texturally delicious. I love this movie so much.
I'm pretty in love with it, Groot was my favorite. What a cutie. Marvel/Disney has been killing it recently.
Haha I'm seeing it again tomorrow :D Can't wait to see it again as I always seem to notice little things the second time around that I maybe didn't notice when seeing it for the first time.
I was at the premiere, but didn't see the film there. Heres my pictures from the premiere :) Some of the pics are awful and some came out really dark but meh I don't care lol And OMG my favourite part of the premiere was the raccoon lol I've never seen a raccoon before and OMG it was adorable!! So incredibly cute!! I wanted to steal it lol The guy in the pics with it on his shoulders is the director James Gunn :)

aahhhhh they're all lovely & chris pratt looks like such a nerd it's AMAZING!!! thank you for sharing a a aahhhh HHHhHHhHhh <3
have you seen the pics of chris pratt in the quill outfit with the raccoon? (though from what i saw it looked more like an opossum but idk, amazing either way.)
groot & rocket's relationship: golden. absolutely golden. perfection.
I got so emotional about those two. They are devoted to one another, it's so great. I love it.
Saw the movie a second time last night. Still just as good, if not better, and I got much more out of the dialogue in the beginning. :3
Such a great movie.
I just noticed this board and HAD to say something because I just saw this movie Tuesday. It was really awesome, The characters in this movie are turning out to be some of my favorites in the Marvel Universe. Also, the movie was just plain fun to watch, I think the Marvel movies just get better and better, I can't wait till they make the 2nd one.
I ADORE the flashback bit of it, and love the structures in the background that are continually falling apart and then putting themselves back together, but the actual skin disintegration part really squicks me out! Rocket, as always, is probably my favorite part even there.
In my mind he's holding a stick at that moment. I know he's probably not, but I'm fan-writing that part in there because I can. But the whole movie's so gorgeous. The big firefight still wows me.
I know, right? I'm ridiculously in love with all of them. I was so worried that Groot and Rocket would turn out to be slapstick comic relief or shudder Jar Jar-esque, but they've got wonderfully developed personalities. I'm really looking forward to the second one too!
I was also really worried about Rocket and Groot's characters, CGI only characters tend to get the least amount of attention in movies, but they did a fabulous job making those two MAIN characters in the story, I mean I felt interested in a character whose only line in the movie is " I am Groot.", that is just really good character development.
DUDE.
I haven't seen the movie yet, (might go this weekend), but let me say HOW INCREDIBLY JEALOUS I AM THAT YOU WERE THISCLOSE TO CHRIS PRATT.
I have just discovered what a fucking gem he is, and yeah, that is a new boy crush you hear developing in the distance lmao.
omg lucky ducky ;O;
I didn't even hear about this movie before mentioned it to me and how awesome it was. xD Living under a rock apparently lol. Totally wanna see it because I read one review likened it to Firefly + Star Wars + Raiders of the Lost Ark and while I'm not a fan of Raiders (plot holes much?), anything combining Firefly and Star Wars is a must see. X) I hope I can watch it next week! 8D eeee
Btw I was mega surprised to see Chris Pratt in the leading role, but each role I've seen him in he plays a loveable jerk, so maybe I shouldn't be that surprised if his character's the same here. :P
omg firefly + star wars + indiana jones is actually a really perfect descriptor. it's also a lot like the lego movie in many ways (if you've seen that), esp. chris pratt's character
all i can say really without spoiling anything is that chris pratt is FANTASTIC AND PERFECT and also this film is exactly the kind of sci-fi that i, at least, have been waiting my entire life for. grungy space looters who are actually lovable and kinda.. good people....
YOU SHOULD SEE IT! i think you would like it :b
So basically, I was crying less than 10 minutes into the movie because that opening scene is fucking heart breaking. I was just like, "TAKE HER HAND BABY PETER" and then I was like, "NO. -gross sobbing-"
Then I almost cried again when Rocket was crying and holding the sticks and twigs from Groot. (Even though I already knew Groot was fine. That scene was still really emotional. Omg.)
I wanna go see this movie again. And again. Forever. New favorite movie.
I also need want one of those dancing baby Groot toys that are supposedly in the works.
I KNOW RIGHT. I was all NOOOOO WHAT ARE YOU DOING when the grandpa takes him out of the room. Just...augh, I was so invested in that scene myself I didn't even remember I was watching a Marvel movie until the comic book flapping intro started. That part was so well done.
You don't know how tempted I am to get a flowerpot, stick a stick in it, set it on my desk at work and wait for someone to ask me about it. xD
Just...don't expect too much out of it. I'd hate to have anyone walk in expecting a Perfect Trifecta of Everything and be disappointed. I walked in trying to have no expectations at all and was pleasantly surprised - whenever someone tells me a movie Is Like X Thing, then inevitably it isn't and I'm disappointed.
It's still a super fun movie and I'm not sure anyone other than Chris Pratt could have pulled off that part.
I totally agree! They're as fully developed and have as much depth as any other character, despite Groot's total of three words; action is so expressive when it's done well. I'm so pleased, too. Super interested to see how the second movie will be.
eeee I just saw it! Haven't seen the lego movie so idk what you mean, but Chris Pratt KILLED it. His entrance on Morag was A++++. I think I can rewatch that whole bit forever.
I love space operas/westerns. 8D So many feels.
SO MANY FEELS. SO MANY FEELS. It started off so emotional to boot. ;O;
Apparently Nathan Fillion made a cameo appearance and I totally missed it. Saw his name in the credits (because I stayed until the end) and I was like WHAT? NO. NOOO. NUH UH. WHAT. WAIT WHEN. NO. FUCK. GDI.
I loved all the characters. Groot at the end... pretty much reduced me to tears. Oh damn. =___= And Rocket! So much humor.
At first I was like oh it's Andy from Parks and Rec!! (Chris Pratt's character from that show... he's a struggling musician so whenever Chris Pratt mentioned music I was like aaaaaaaah hahahahhahaha ANDY I cannot get over this.) But Chris Pratt held his ground. Adorable teddy bear of a man. <3
I'm not surprised you went and saw it again in theatres. I had a smile on my face the entire time. It was consistently funny and entertaining. Definitely worth the price of admission and then some. ;)
So you liked it? Yay! I KNOW RIGHT THAT FIRST SCENE.
Lol. Apparently, from what I heard, he voices the big blue guy in the prison who gets a nose job from Groot. Three times watching and I still can't tell it's him, but the internet says it's true!
I know, right? Laughing, crying, excitement, silliness, drama - this movie freaking has it all. It's even more fun to see it with friends who have a special love for guns and cute furry critters. cough I have unique friends. But it was even more fun just listening to them laugh over everything too.
/totally laughed at Howard the Duck WHAT. I LIKED THAT MOVIE BACK IN THE DAY. I WAS YOUNG AND DUMB. /ducks rotten fruit
