They're making a 50 shades of grey movie

They're actually making a 50 shades of grey movie

Why. Why why why. That book was terrible. It was fanfiction with changed names that depicts a completely inaccurate representation of a BDSM life AND an unhealthy relationship

And they're going to market that world wide

I just can't right now

They're trying to steal some of Twilight's spotlight which is also an unhealthy relationship. It's gross one way or another.

Accurate depictions or not, Hollywood knows that they can make serious bank off this movie, just like they did with Twilight. Money is the only motivation that they need. If they think they can turn a profit, they'll make any book into a movie no matter how bad it is. And that breaks my heart, that they'd make a movie out of a dangerous, not to mention badly written, book just to turn a profit. Alas, we live in a capitalistic world.

(and anyone else really) My friend shared this blog link with me. The blogger recaps 50 Shades and does a fabulous job of explaining all the things wrong with it (in a surprisingly humorous way to boot). I highly recommend looking through it. c: It's the closest thing I've come to touching the books, and frankly, I don't want to get any closer to the books. xD Too awful. But now at least I know how bad 50 Shades is and I can argue my point with any die-hard fans lol.

I'm actually super curious as to how they'll make it PG-13 (or R, but I'm guessing if they want to keep the second half of the target audience, they better keep it PG-13; you can take a wild guess who the other half of the audience is ;D). I hope it tanks badly. But chances are it won't. ;O; /sobs

I hope it gets rated R so it can prevent impressionable teenage girls from rushing in to see it. They don't need to be poisoned by that crap.

I agree. ;c Although I think the book is so big that if they haven't had a chance to be poisoned by its presence, they must be living under a rock. I don't live in America and I see the book everywhere here too. :s /facepalm

I hope they stick to the book and not try to "better" it to give it a false sense of omg this book is THIS good whaaat why haven't I read it yet?!

Rating it R to deter the little tweens who want to see the next Twilight isn't going to really do much to deter them. Something I've learned over the years about humans is that if they want something bad enough, they'll do whatever they have to to get it and damn the consequences. And this may not necessarily be true in all areas, but at least in mine, unless you blatantly look under 17, movie theaters won't card you for trying to get in a rated R movie without a parent or guardian.

I get your point, but there must be a reason why they try to make movies meet a certain rating. xD There must be some difference in movie ticket sales based on the ratings.

Omg I agree! I have not read the book myself because what I heard of it from friends grossed me out too much. And now the fact that there is going to be a movie just annoys me. -_-

I had to laugh when I saw the news headline where the author was disappointed over who was cast as the main guy. She wanted the one from Twilight to play him. XD Gee, I wonder why? I've never read them and have no desire after reading the bits that are plastered all over the internet.

The only thing that don't want is any well known actors to be connected with this bad excuse of a book. If I had any respect for them it would fly out the window so fast I wouldn't have had time to open the window.

- Deary me, out of curiosity i just gave the trailer a watch - having not read the book i had no real reconceived ideas about it, i can't say it looks any worse than a lot of other pointless sexually fuelled arty crap that hollywood has churned out over the years....but my shock came in the form of Oh My Gosh - Alexis Bledel - way to taint Gilmore Girls for me hahahaha!

People will watch this ridiculously pointless movie, go nutty over it for 5 mins...then it will likely disappear like it's predecessors of the same kind....the film, like the book (i assume) is shocking for the sake of being shocking....it pushes boundaries and explores areas of human behaviour that have otherwise been kept private - for this reason it will be a success - the hype it elicits will have very little to do with content or quality!

It's not possible for a trailer to be out because they JUST cast the actors XD And Alexis Bledel is definitely not cast as the female lead. You probably found yourself a fanmade trailer because I guess Alexis was a fan favorite for Anastasia or whatever the hell her name is

The book doesn't push any boundaries except to pretty up an abusive relationship by calling it a BDSM relationship. Which it's not at all because no Dom would make a virgin sub sign any kind of contract or ignore them when they REALLY want to stop.

- Haha whoops yes i guess it was a fanmade styley trailer which was a relief, didn't much care for the thought of Rory in a film of that nature :p

I'd say that enacting a big budget film depicting actions such as these is pretty boundary pushing - i'm not saying this is a good thing at all, i'm saying that sexual taboos of any kind are easy money makers for hollywood bigshots to cash in on - and regardless of whether people find this type of thing shocking or appealing - a heck of a lot of people will watch this movie - call it innate curiousity if you will!

Your question in the first post was why are they making this movie (although i guessing this was somewhat rhetorical) - my answer is because people will produce and market anything that sells and rakes in the big bucks...and this will sell, whether we agree with it's premise or not!

Needless to say, i will not be going out of my way to watch a movie like this - from i've read it's not something that interests me in the slightest as i agree it sounds rather depraved...!

  1. FUCK because I'm going to have to see this piece of shit because there is no way I can resist seeing my celeb crush half naked. (He already does a lot of it in Sons of Anarchy, and holy shit. I can't even fucking tell you how hot he is.)
  2. I hope this isn't a huge mistake for his career.

HOW CAN YOU RESIST THAT?

A: you can't. :cccc

The theory, I'm assuming, is that if the MPAA rates a movie a higher rating, it will deter younger people from wanting to see a movie until they're older and more mature. And in some cases, it works. But only in some. But children nearly always want what's bad for them, which is why they prefer candy over fruits and vegetables. And if we lived in a perfect world, higher ratings on films would deter younger people from seeing things they shouldn't.

But for the film industry, money is money. Doesn't matter who it comes from, as long as it's spendable. Money makes the world go round, after all.
